This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of spirituality in the field of vegetarianism and veganism. The main goal of this thesis is to find out how and when is the spirituality formed in narratives of the respondents, who are vegetarians or vegans and how do they construct it. The results of this work are obtained using a qualitative research, mostly in form of semi-structured in-depth interviews with sensitivity to the ways that the narratives are constructed. These interviews took place mainly in online space due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This thesis connects several areas of theory, which later appear in the narratives of respondents. The main theoretical framework for this thesis is concept of mindful body by Nancy Scheper- Hughes and Margaret Lock, concept of purity by Mary Douglas, theory of Dark Green Religion by Bron Taylor and views of the boundaries between people and animals by Margo DeMello. This thesis and its conclusions can serve as a basis for subsequent research on the topic, since this thesis formed as a certain view of the field of spirituality in veganism and vegetarianism.

The aim of the study is to acquaint the reader briefly with the movement of Messianic Judaism in the world and to introduce its specific Czech form in more depth. Based on almost two years of field research in the Messianic community in Prague, the author describes some selected aspects of the religiosity of this community, such as distinguishing between clean and unclean animals, celebrating Jewish holidays, observing the Sabbath or the community’s specific relationship to the Torah. It also clarifies the presence of non-Jewish believers in Messianic communities, which is typical of communities based in Europe. At the end of the text, the author places the movement, through the prism of Hervieu-Léger, in the context of the institutionalized-deinstitutionalized religiosity scale.

1 Annotation This thesis addresses the vocation of a Trappist monk which I first encountered during an ethnographic stay in a monastery and later explored further through semi- structured interviews with the monk and his family. The entire thesis is inter-connected by a chronological narrative covering the course of my research which will guide the reader throughout the field notes and interviews in their proper order. Research alone follows the vocation of only one monk but examines it and its formation from the perspective of six family members. The analysis of the interviews made clear that the vocation of a Trappist monk formed linearly with continuous Christian guidance. This guidance had origins in his religious family and was further consolidated by Christian elementary and high school structures. His family was very supportive of his decision to lean into religious life, and while a tendency to asceticism or solitude was refuted in the interviews, it transpired that a strong positive relationship with nature was observable, in-keeping with secluded monastery life in an isolated woodland environment. This thesis deals with some aspects of the religiosity of the members of the Czech community, who claim to be a part of a Messianic Judaism movement. The text is based on the field research I did within the congregation. In the introduction, I attempt to present definitions of this type of religiosity, describe the historical development of the movement, make connection to evangelical religiosity, outline its basic pillars, clarify the role of non-Jewish believers in this movement, and ultimately outline possible forms of worship. Next, I describe my journey into the field, the development of my relationships with the informers and then I evaluate my insider-outsider position in the community. In the practical part of the thesis, I try to reveal the path of individual church members to this type of religiosity, relying on Kaell's concept of "born-again seeking". Based on testimonies from individual believers, I try to uncover why the congregation does not accept more elements of Pentecostal religiosity, as can be seen in many Messianic communities, especially in the United States and England. The presented work deals with certain aspects of catholic monastic life; it has been elaborated on the basis of a field research carried out in a female monastic community of an active order in the Czech Republic. In the work, I focus primarily on the topic of prayer and I am trying to answer the following questions: what is the nuns' attitude towards prayer like, which activities we can consider a prayer in the monastic community and what is the influence of these activities on actors in this setting? On theoretical level, the thesis is based especially on the concept of total institutions by E. Goffman and on Pierre Bourdieu's conception of habitus. The text consists of four major parts. In the first, introductory part I describe methodological and ethical issues relevant to my research. In the second part, I concern myself briefly with monastic life in general, its origins and development, and also with stages of monastic life of an individual. The following empirical part based on ethnographic data from my field notes is presented as a description of "a common day" in the monastic community. The work deals with whole description of ritual theory. The first chapter focuses on ritual from point of view its function, rise and meaning in culture. The part two deals with ritual as performance, first of all relation ritual and theatre. The third chapter states some of typology of ritual and important representatives who occupies with ritual and some of theirs main opinions and ideas. The next chapter completes anthropological approaches to ritual with others important anthropologists, who represent this approaches. The fifth chapter devotes other types of ritual, as burial rituals, healing rituals, annual rituals, which are complete with description visual examples.
