The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a low-fish-meal diet supplemented with coenzyme Q10 on the growth, antioxidant capacity, immunity, intestinal health and hypoxic resistance of Litopenaeus vannamei. L.vannamei with an initial weight of 0.66 g were fed with the experimental diets for 56 days. Diets D1 (20% FM level) and D2–D7 (15% FM level), supplemented with 0%, 0.002%, 0.004%, 0.006%, 0.008% and 0.01% coenzyme Q10 were formulated. In terms of growth performance, the weight gain and specific growth rate in the D2 diet were significantly lower than those in the D1 diet (p < 0.05). The final body weight, weight gain and specific growth rate in the D2–D7 diets had an upward trend, and the condition factor in the D2–D7 diets was lower than those in the D1 diet (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the crude protein and crude lipid levels in the whole body among all diet treatments (p > 0.05). In terms of hepatopancreas antioxidant parameters, the D5 and D6 diets significantly promoted the total antioxidant capacity and total superoxide dismutase activity, and significantly decreased the malondialdehyde content (p < 0.05). The expression levels of cat, mnsod and gpx in shrimp fed with the D5 and D6 diets were significantly higher than those of shrimp fed with the D2 diet (p < 0.05). In addition, the mRNA level of ProPO was increased in the D4 and D5 diets, and LZM expression was increased in the D6 diet compared with the D1 diet (p < 0.05). The villus height of shrimp fed with diets supplemented with coenzyme Q10 was significantly increased (p < 0.05), and the intestinal thickness and submucosal thickness of shrimp fed with the D6 diet were the highest (p < 0.05). After acute hypoxia stress, lethal dose 50 time in the D3–D7 diets was significantly increased compared with the D1 and D2 diets (p < 0.05), and the highest value was found in the D4 diet (p < 0.05). After stress, the expression levels of TLR pathway-related genes (Toll, Myd88, Pelle, TRAF6 and Dorsal) in the D4 and D6 diets were significantly increased compared with the D2 diet. In general, Litopenaeus vannamei fed with the D6 diet achieved the best growth, antioxidant capacity, immunity, and intestinal morphology among all low FM diets and D4–D6 diets improved hypoxic resistance. Mesocarbon microbead (MCMB) is a prospective candidate as the raw material for nuclear graphite. However, the poor resistance to high‐temperature oxidation limits its application. Herein, a dense SiC coating was prepared by molten salt synthesis on the surface of MCMB to improve its antioxidation performance. The effect of molten salt synthesis reaction time on the phase composition, microstructure, and antioxidation performance of the SiC‐coated MCMB particles was investigated. A theoretical model was established to explain the SiC coating growth rule well, in conformity with the carbon vacancy diffusion mechanism in SiC coating. The SiC coating synthesized for 7 h with the thickness of.385 µm remarkably promoted the high‐temperature antioxidation property of MCMB. The kinetics analysis indicated that the SiC coating obstructed the oxygen diffusion effectively during the oxidation process. The as‐fabricated SiC‐coated MCMBs with good oxidation resistance show great promise for application in nuclear industry and other antioxidative fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The scarcity of freshwater resources has increased the use of nonconventional water resources such as brackish water, reclaimed water, etc., especially in water-scarce areas. Whether an irrigation cycle using reclaimed water and brackish water (RBCI) poses a risk of secondary soil salinization to crop yields needs to be studied. Aiming to find an appropriate use for different nonconventional water resources, pot experiments were conducted to study the effects of RBCI on soil microenvironments, growth, physiological characteristics and antioxidation properties of crops. The results showed the following: (1) compared to FBCI, the soil moisture content was slightly higher, without a significant difference, while the soil EC, sodium and chloride ions contents increased significantly under the RBCI treatment. With an increase in the reclaimed water irrigation frequency (Tri), the contents of EC, Na+ and Cl− in the soil decreased gradually, and the difference was significant; the soil moisture content also decreased gradually. (2) There were different effects of the RBCI regime on the soil's enzyme activities. With an increase in the Tri, the soil urease activity indicated a significant upward trend as a whole. (3) RBCI can alleviate the risk of soil salinization to some extent. The soil pH values were all below 8.5, and were without a risk of secondary soil alkalization. The ESP did not exceed 15 percent, and there was no possible risk of soil alkalization except that the ESP in soil irrigated by brackish water irrigation went beyond the limit of 15 percent. (4) Compared with FBCI, no obvious changes appeared to the aboveground and underground biomasses under the RBCI treatment. The RBCI treatment was conducive to increasing the aboveground biomass compared with pure brackish water irrigation. Therefore, short-term RBCI helps to reduce the risk of soil salinization without significantly affecting crop yield, and the irrigation cycle using reclaimed-reclaimed-brackish water at 3 g·L−1 was recommended, according to the experimental results. Overproduction of reactive oxygen species is one of the important reasons of non-healing wounds, such as diabetic wounds. Melatonin is well known as an antioxidant, while the poor solubility limits its use in many areas. In this study, the solubility of melatonin was improved by introducing γ-cyclodextrin to form the composite named MT-γ-CD through ultrasonic process. During this process, the molar ratio of melatonin and γ-cyclodextrin was 2:1, the temperature was set at 30 ℃, and the ultrasonic time was 40 min. The MT-γ-CD showed good antioxidant property in vitro with high free radical scavenging efficiency over 90%. Besides, an injectable self-healing hydrogel was prepared to load with MT-γ-CD to form the wound dressing, here, sodium carboxymethylated cellulose was oxidized to introduce aldehyde groups that could form Schiff base with amino groups in gelatin. This dressing with good biocompatibility could be injected into irregular wounds, suppress the level of reactive oxygen species, and accelerate wound healing of diabetic rats in vivo. The diet formulation for trout has changed dramatically over the last decade due to changes in the ingredient markets and advances in feed processing technology. The protein requirements of Oncorhynchus mykiss were established at the end of the last century, and it is unclear whether these requirements are applicable to modern dietary formulations. Therefore, an eight-week feeding trial was performed to measure the protein requirements of O. mykiss by evaluating growth, body composition, antioxidation property, innate immune response and liver morphology. The five experimental diets were prepared to contain the same levels of crude lipid (120 g/kg) and graded levels of crude protein (356.3, 383.9, 411.5, 439.2 and 466.8 g/kg). The results suggested that the growth, feed utilization and whole-body crude protein levels were significantly increased when fish were fed diets containing 439.2 and 466.8 g/kg crude protein. Meanwhile, low dietary protein levels (356.3 and 383.9 g/kg) significantly down-regulated the mRNA levels of insulin-like growth factor I, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, complement 3 and lysozyme, and also up-regulated the insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1 as well as proinflammatory cytokine expression in the liver, including interleukin 1β, interleukin 8 and tumor necrosis factor-α. Moreover, low dietary protein levels (356.3 and 383.9 g/kg) damaged liver structure, suppressed total antioxidative capacity and increased the malondialdehyde content in liver. In conclusion, high dietary protein (439.2 and 466.8 g/kg) promoted fish growth, while low dietary protein (356.3 and 383.9 g/kg) damaged liver structure, induced oxidative stress and inflammatory responses and weakened non-specific immunity. UV-C irradiation can maintain fruit quality by inducing fruit disease resistance and reducing decay during storage. Grape (Vitis Vinifera L.) was exposed to 2.4 kJ m−2 UV-C irradiation then inoculated with Aspergillus carbonarius to investigate the changes in nutritional quality, defense related substances and enzyme activities. Postharvest UV-C irradiation can increased the levels of defense-related substances and enzyme activities, such as phenols, flavanols, lignin, proline, glutathione, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), and β-1,3-glucanase (GLU). In addition, Resveratrol plays an important role in grape resistance to A. carbonarius infection through further verification by gene expression levels, the transcription factors VvWRKY24 and VvMYB14 are highly correlated with the regulation of VvSTS gene expression. This study revealed the molecular mechanism of postharvest grape fruit response to UV-C irradiation and the defense mechanism against black rot, and provided a theoretical basis for postharvest grape storage and preservation technology. • UV-C irradiation maintained storage quality of grapes. • UV-C irradiation induced resistance against A. carbonariu. • UV-C irradiation elevated activity of defense-related enzyme and phenolics content. • UV-C irradiation accelerated the biosynthesis of phenolic substances. • Resveratrol was a important defense substance during resistance induction. Abstract With the aim of application as either a conductive filler or a sinter-bonding material with enhanced antioxidation properties, Ag-coated Cu (Cu@Ag) particles with thick Ag shells were fabricated and heated at 220 °C for 10 min in air to observe the dewetting behavior of the thick Ag shell. The fabricated Cu@Ag particles were spherical with the average size of 2 μm, and the Ag shell was 250–400 nm in thickness, comprising a mixed Ag-Cu layer and a dense Ag layer. As the heat-treatment time increased, the Cu@Ag particles were aggregated by forming numerous Ag nodules covering the surface of the particle. Dewetting in the thick Ag shell occurred from 4 min and only in the outer layer of the Ag shell even after 10 min of heat-treatment. In addition, the thickness of the dewetting layer and the mixed Ag-Cu layer were increased because the outward diffusion of Cu and Ag were increased proportionally with the time. However, because the dense Ag layer remained even after the dewetting of the Ag shell and the formation of the mixed Ag-Cu layer, the Cu@Ag particles were not oxidized after heating at 220 °C for 10 min in air. Highlights • Ag-coated Cu particles with thick Ag shells were fabricated and heated at 220 °C in air. • Thickness of dewetting layer, dense Ag layer, and mixed Ag-Cu layer changed during heating. • Ag-coated Cu particles became highly sintered by forming a dewetting layer in the outer shell. • Diffusion of Cu and Ag was accelerated by the instability of the Cu/Ag interface. • The dense Ag remained even after the heating, which improved anti-oxidation properties. Abstract: To improve the ultrasonic bondability and antioxidation property of pure Cu pad, multi-layer structures of Ti/Cu/TaN/Ag are deposited on Si substrate with magnetron sputtering technology. The as-deposited multi-layers had uniform thicknesses and smooth surface with the roughness of 2.098nm. X-Ray diffraction analysis indicated that both Ag and Cu layers had deposited with (111) preferred orientation, and the grain size of Ag layer was 29.5nm. The phase composition of TaN layer was Ta2N. For comparison of antioxidation properties, traditional pad structure Ti/Cu/Ag was also fabricated with the same process. Obvious Cu oxidation occurred on the surface of the Ti/Cu/Ag structure after heating at 150°C for 30min. However, no Cu element was detected on the surface of Ti/Cu/TaN/Ag structure even after heating at 300°C, which indicated that the Ta2N layer in Ti/Cu/TaN/Ag structure can prevent the underneath Cu pad from oxidation. 100% Au bondability was achieved on Ti/Cu/TaN/Ag structure under both room temperature and 150°C. The shear fractures mainly occurred in Au bonds, indicating the multi-layers fabricated by magnetron sputtering technology had strong bond interface with Cu pad. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
