INTRODUCTION: A three-pronged approach to acne treatment combining an antibiotic, antimicrobial, and retinoid may be more efficacious than single/double treatments while potentially reducing antibiotic resistance. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the first fixed-dose, triple-combination topical acne product, clindamycin 1.2%/adapalene 0.15%/benzoyl peroxide (BPO) 3.1% gel (CAB) using pooled phase 3 data. METHODS: In two identical phase 3 (N = 183; N = 180), double-blind, 12-week studies, participants aged ≥ 9 years with moderate-to-severe acne were randomized 2:1 to receive once-daily CAB or vehicle gel. Endpoints included ≥ 2-grade reduction from baseline in Evaluators Global Severity Score and clear/almost clear skin (treatment success) and least-squares mean percent change from baseline in acne lesion counts. Treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and cutaneous safety/tolerability were evaluated. Marine biofouling, which is one of the technical challenges hindering the growth of the marine economy, has been controlled using cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanoparticles due to the exceptional antifouling properties of Cu(I) ions. However, Cu2O nanoparticles have encountered bottlenecks due to explosive releases of Cu+ ions, high toxicity at elevated doses, and long‐term instability. Here, we present a novel method called Redox Concomitant Formation (RCF) for fabricating a hierarchical Cu(I) metal–organic framework polypyrrole (Cu(I)−MOF/PPy) composite. This method enables in situ phase transition via successive redox reactions that change the chemical valence state and coordination mode of Cu(II)−MOF, resulting in a new structure of Cu(I)−MOF while creating a PPy layer surrounded by the hierarchical structure. Owing to the steady release of Cu+ ions from the Cu(I) sites and photothermal properties of PPy, Cu(I)−MOF/PPy exhibits superior and broad‐spectrum resistance to marine bacteria, algae, and surface‐adhered biofilms in complex biological environments, as well as long‐term stability, resulting in 100 % eradication efficiency under solar‐driven heating. Mechanistic insights into successive structural redox reactions and formation using the RCF method are provided in detail, enabling the fabrication of novel MOFs with the desired composition and structure for a wide range of potential applications. Sauerkraut‐derived lactic acid bacterial (LAB) strains have gained attention due to their potential health benefits. This study focuses on evaluating seven Sauerkraut‐derived RAMULAB strains isolated from sauerkraut, aiming to identify promising candidates for modulating α‐glucosidase (AG) and α‐amylase (AM) enzymatic functions. RAMULAB strains with remarkable probiotic potential can contribute to the digestive health and manage conditions like diabetes. Identifying robust candidates from sauerkraut, a fermented food, holds promise for natural and cost‐effective probiotic sources. The RAMULAB strains underwent extensive characterization, including identification through 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequencing. Their tolerance to harsh conditions, adherence properties, antimicrobial activity, antioxidant potential, and inhibition of AG and AM were assessed. In silico analyses explored their molecular interactions, particularly with hydroxycitric acid, a potential antidiabetic compound. Among the RAMULAB strains, RAMULAB48 emerged as a standout candidate. It displayed exceptional resilience to acidic bile (≥97%), and simulated gastrointestinal conditions (≥95%), highlighting its suitability for probiotic applications. RAMULAB48 exhibited robust adherence properties, including cell‐surface hydrophobicity (80%), autoaggregation (42%), coaggregation with pathogens (≥33%), and adhesion to epithelial cells. Additionally, all seven isolates demonstrated gamma‐hemolysis and resistance to antibiotics (Kanamycin, Methicillin, and Vancomycin), while displaying strong antibacterial properties against foodborne pathogens. These RAMULAB strains also exhibited varying degrees of antioxidant activity, with RAMULAB48 displaying the highest potential (≥41%). In terms of antidiabetic activity, cell‐free supernatant (CS) obtained from RAMULAB48 expressed the highest inhibition levels, notably inhibiting yeast AG by an impressive 59.55% and AM being by a remarkable 67.42%. RAMULAB48 produced organic acids, including hydroxycitric acid (28.024 mg/mL), which showed promising antidiabetic properties through in silico analyses, indicating favorable interactions with the target enzymes. This study identifies Lacticaseibacillus paracasei RAMULAB48, a Sauerkraut‐derived RAMULAB strain, as a promising probiotic candidate with exceptional tolerance, adherence properties, antimicrobial activity, antioxidant potential, and antidiabetic effects. AbstractA series of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) complexes have been synthesized with a benzothiazole azo dye containing tridentate (NNO) donor ligand 4-(((6-nitrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)imino)methyl)benzene-1,3-diol derived from 2-amino-6-nitrobenzothiazole and 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde. The structures of the novel ligand and metal complexes were identified and confirmed via various spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR,1H NMR,13C NMR, UV-Vis, mass spectrometry), TGA-DTA, powder X-ray diffraction, and DFT calculations. The optimal structural parameters and chemical reactivity of the ligand and metal complexes have been investigated using Density Functional Theory calculations (DFT/B3LYP,6-31G** and LanL2DZ basis sets) to provide insight about their frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) and molecular electrostatic potential (MESP). In vitro DPPH radical scavenging techniques have been used to assess the antioxidant activity of the ligand and complexes, indicating good antioxidant activity. The Ni(II) complex was the most potent with the lowest IC50 values. The in vitro antibacterial activities have been explored by screening against bacteria (Bacillus subtilis) and bacteria (E. coli) exhibiting significant activity against the tested strains of bacteria with Zn(II) complex as most potent with the lowest MIC value against E. coli and B. subtilis) and highest zone of inhibition against E. coli and B. subtilis at 1000 μg/mL concentration). ABSTRACT N′‐(2‐Fluorobenzoyl)benzo[d]thiazole‐2‐carbohydrazide (OFBBTCH, HL) and its chelates with Co(II) and Ni(II) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (LC–MS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), ultra‐violet visible (UV–vis), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and powder X‐ray diffraction. The conductance measurements reveal that the chelates are non‐electrolytic, and the spectral analysis indicates octahedral geometry of the chelates. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were obtained by Coats–Redfern relations, which shows positive Gibbs's free energy and negative entropy for both chelates. The equilibrium studies carried out by pH‐metry revealed the dissociation constant (pKa) of OFBBTCH as 8.13 and the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 Co(II)‐L and Ni(II)‐L complexes in solution. The CT‐DNA binding studies carried out by electron absorption, fluorescence quenching, steady state emissions and viscosity studies revealed hyperchromism and groove binding for HL and chelates. The Kb values calculated from electron absorption studies are 2.4 × 106, 4 × 106, and 9 × 106 M−1, from the fluorescence quenching studies Ksv values are 0.1722, 0.278, and 0.748 M−1, and Kapp values are 5.9 × 104, 1.3 × 105, and 2.9 × 105 M−1 for HL, Co(II)‐OFBBTCH and Ni(II)‐OFBBTCH, respectively. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) and human serum albumin (HSA) binding interactions were carried out by electron absorption and fluorescence quenching studies. The light switching properties of the chelates, the hydrolytic and oxidative cleavage of CT‐DNA, and the antioxidant properties were evaluated. Anti‐microbial studies carried out by pour plate method showed high activity for Ni(II)‐OFBBTCH chelate. Cytotoxicity of the compounds was performed for HeLa and MCF cell lines by MTT assay. Background: The world society is still suffering greatly from waterborne infections, with developing countries bearing most of the morbidity and death burden, especially concerning young children. Moreover, microbial resistance is one of the most prevalent global problems that extends the need for self-medication and the healing period, or it may be linked to treatment failure that results in further hospitalization, higher healthcare expenses, and higher mortality rates. Thus, innovative synthesis of new antimicrobial materials is required to preserve the environment and enhance human health. Results: The present study highlighted a simple and cost-effective approach to biosynthesize a chitosan/graphene oxide/zinc oxide nanocomposite (CS/GO/ZnO) alone and immobilized in a macroporous cryogel as a new antimicrobial agent. Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 was used as a safe and efficient bio-nano-factory during biosynthesis. The formation of CS/GO/ZnO was confirmed and characterized using different analyses including ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), selective area diffraction pattern (SADP), Zeta analyses, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). GO combined with ZnO NPs successfully and displayed an adsorption peak at 358 nm. The XRD results showed the crystalline composition of the loaded ZnO NPs on GO sheets. FTIR spectrum confirmed the presence of proteins during the synthesis which act as stabilizing and capping agents. The nanocomposite has a high negative surface charge (-32.8 ± 5.7 mV) which increases its stability. SEM and TEM showing the size of biosynthesized ZnO-NPs was in the range of 40–50 nm. The CS/GO/ZnO alone or immobilized in cryogel revealed good antimicrobial activities against B. cereus ATCC 14,579, Escherichia coli ATCC 25,922, and Candida albicans ATCC 10,231 in a dose-dependent manner. The CS/GO/ZnO cryogel revealed higher antimicrobial activity than GO/ZnO nanocomposite and standard antibiotics (amoxicillin and miconazole) with inhibition zones averages of 24.33 ± 0.12, 15.67 ± 0.03, and 17.5 ± 0.49 mm, respectively. The MIC values of the prepared nanocomposite against B. cereus, E. coli, and C. albicans were 80, 80, and 90 µg/ml compared to standard drugs (90, 120 and 150 µg/ml, respectively). According to the TEM ultrastructure studies of nanocomposite-treated microbes, treated cells had severe deformities and morphological alterations compared to the untreated cells including cell wall distortion, the separation between the cell wall and plasma membrane, vacuoles formation moreover complete cell lyses were also noted. In the cytotoxicity test of CS/GO/ZnO alone and its cryogel, there was a significant reduction (p˂0.05) in cell viability of WI-38 normal lung cell line after the concentration of 209 and 164 µg/ml, respectively. It showed the low toxic effect of the nanocomposite and its cryogel on the WI-38 line which implies its safety. In addition, water treatment with the CS/GO/ZnO cryogel decreased turbidity (0.58 NTU), total coliform (2 CFU/100 ml), fecal coliform (1 CFU/100 ml), fecal Streptococcus (2 CFU/100 ml), and heterotrophic plate counts (53 CFU/1 ml) not only in comparison with the chlorine-treated samples (1.69 NTU, 4 CFU/100 ml, 6 CFU/100 ml, 57 CFU/100 ml, and 140 CFU/1 ml, respectively) but also with the raw water samples (6.9 NTU, 10800 CFU/100 ml, 660 CFU/100 ml, 800 CFU/100 ml, and 4400 CFU/1 ml, respectively). Moreover, cryogel significantly decreased the concentration of different heavy metals, especially cobalt compared to chlorine (0.004 ppm, 0.002 ppm, and 0.001 ppm for raw water, chlorine-treated, and cryogel-treated groups, respectively) which helped in the reduction of their toxic effects. Conclusion: This study provides an effective, promising, safe, and alternative nanocomposite to treat different human and animal pathogenic microbes that might be used in different environmental, industrial, and medical applications. The food industry has numerous difficulties in meeting consumers demands for excellent quality, convenient, flavorful, and long-lasting food. We need new packaging solutions for food to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and the damage it causes to the environment. To reduce trash and save resources, food containers should be biodegradable, antimicrobial, and antioxidant. In terms of biopolymers used in food packaging, Polylactic acid (PLA) is by far the most common. Applications for PLA in biomedical materials and food packaging seems to be promising because of its biodegradability, FDA clinical approval, and renewability. The future of packaging may lie in PLA-based polymers that have antioxidant and antibacterial additives added to them. As a result, chemicals like antimicrobials and antioxidants have found widespread application in food packaging, enhancing quality, safety, and shelf life. Natural active substances including tannin, gallic acid, catechin, curcuminessential oils, as well as synthetic active agents like Ag, Cu, ZnO, and TiO2, exhibit broad antibacterial and antioxidant activity and impede harmful microbes. The purpose of this review is to analyze the antioxidant and antibacterial capabilities of active chemicals in PLA matrices. The integration of active compounds into packaging and its methods are described. ABSTRACT This preliminary study investigated the chemical composition and biological properties of essential oils derived from Schinus molle L. leaves obtained from three specific regions in Algeria: Algiers (SMA), Djelfa (SMD), and Mascara (SMM). Gas chromatography (GC) and Gas chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS) analyses confirmed the presence of 52 compounds (100.0%) in SMA essential oil, 50 compounds (100.0%) in SMD, and 72 compounds (100.0%) in SMM essential oils. The main components of SMA oil were camphene (31.82%), limonene (14.71%), and p‐cymene (9.25%). In SMD and SMM oils, α‐phellandrene (14.25% and 12.70%), limonene (13.02% and 11.90%), and germacrene D (10.62% and 10.15%) were the major components, respectively. The antioxidant characteristics were evaluated using five methods: β‐carotene‐linoleic acid, DPPH, ABTS+, CUPRAC, and Metal chelating assays. The results revealed a moderate to low anti‐oxidant effect, with SMA essential oils exhibiting the highest activity. A moderate inhibitory effect against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), α‐glucosidase, α‐amylase, urease, and tyrosinase was observed, indicating anti‐enzymatic activity. Nevertheless, all samples had higher IC50 values for both antioxidant and anti‐enzymatic activities than 200 μg/mL. It was determined that regional differences in the locations where S. molle grows showed both qualitative and quantitative differences in essential oil components. This difference was also detected in the biological activities of the essential oils. The anti‐inflammatory capacities of the three samples were assessed using Human Red Blood Cell (HRBC) membrane stabilisation and egg albumin denaturation techniques. The results showed effective anti‐inflammatory activity in all three samples. The antimicrobial efficacy was evaluated using a range of tests, such as anti‐quorum sensing, violacein inhibition, anti‐swimming, and anti‐swarming assays, demonstrating moderate activity. No toxic effects were observed at the tested dosages when assessing cytotoxicity against a healthy cell line (CCD18‐Co). This thorough examination provides valuable insights into the chemical composition and bioactive properties of essential oils derived from S. molle. This study focuses on creating a biodegradable film composed of chitosan, Indian Gooseberry (IG) extract, and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), designed to enhance antimicrobial properties and improve food preservation. The presence of AgNPs and IG extract not only dramatically exhibits 99% efficiency in the antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538P), but also achieves this within a remarkably short time interval of ≈20 min. This potent antimicrobial action is attributed to the synergistic effect between the bioactive compounds in the IG extract and the nanoscale silver particles, which together create a highly hostile environment for microbial growth. Moreover, this synergy contributes to 313.94% water vapor transmittance rate and the complete biodegradability of the composite film (93.42% at the end of the second month), ensuring that it leaves no harmful residues in the environment post‐use. The reinforced film exhibits improved hydrophobicity (55.43%), which is crucial for protecting food products from moisture and extending their shelf life. Specifically, the film has been tested as a packaging material for bread, showing a significant extension in shelf life by effectively preventing mold growth and retaining freshness for an extended period (14 days). Since the beginning of humanity, people have used wild medicinal plants for the treatment of various diseases. Nowadays, researchers and scientists pay attention to exploring new tools to maximize the efficacy of natural products from natural resources, and among these tools formulation of nanoparticles is very promising. The green synthesis of metal/metal oxide nano-solutions using the Deverra tortuosa extract has still not been explored well. This study aims to prepare many metal/metal oxide nanoparticle solutions such as ZnO-NPs, SeO2-MNPs, and Ag-NPs via the methanol extract of D. tortuosa as safe, easy, green, and economic approach as well as characterize the chemical components of D. tortuosa plant by GC-MS spectroscopy analysis. The synthesized M-NPs solutions were characterized by UV–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), zeta potential, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and phytochemical analyses. The potential antioxidant capacity was estimated for the methanol extract of this plant along with the metal/metal oxide nanoparticles solutions by DPPH assay. In addition, the cytotoxic activity was in vitro assessed for the inspected samples against various tumor and normal cell lines applying MTT assay. The application of the D. tortuosa methanolic extract resulted in NPs with a range of 11.79–85.9 nm which was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, zeta potential, and FT-IR spectroscopy that revealed various functional groups of the tested samples. The GC-MS analysis of the D. tortuosa methanolic extract showed the presence of 31 chemical compounds with 2-methyl-3-oxocyclopent-1-ene-1-carboxylic acid, methyl oleate, and 6-allyl-4,5-dimethoxybenzo[d][1,3]-dioxole as major constituents. The extract showed considerable antioxidant activity as well as antimicrobial activity that was assessed also against varied bacterial and fungal species. Remarkable potencies for the investigated metal/metal oxide nanoparticle solutions hinder the growth of the tumor cell lines, in addition to the growth of the microbial species. Based on the determined biological activities of the produced NPs, future study is recommended to characterize the pure authentic compounds that are identified within the D. tortuosa as major compounds as well as evaluate their modes of action. Recurrent AOM affects a subset of children, resulting in an adverse impact on quality of life, socioeconomic disadvantage, and risk of long‐term sequelae. Antimicrobial chemoprophylaxis is used in some settings but is increasingly controversial due to an awareness of adverse long‐term effects and contribution to global antibiotic resistance.A comprehensive literature search was undertaken using Medline (1946–October 2023) and Embase (1974–October 2023). The primary aim was to assess the efficacy of antimicrobial chemoprophylaxis on AOM episodes in children < 18 years of age. Bias and quality assessment was performed. Dichotomous data were analysed using risk ratio with 95% confidence intervals. Meta‐analysis was carried out using random‐effects models for pooled analysis, independent of heterogeneity. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistic.The effect of antimicrobial chemoprophylaxis in children with rAOM on the number of individual AOM episodes. Secondary outcomes: assessment of antimicrobial agents and outcomes in children with risk factors.Assessment of qualitative data was performed on 20 studies (n = 2210). This study evaluated the biochemical composition and bioactivity of the crude extract of Sargassum dentifolium on the western coast of the Red Sea, Hurghada, Egypt. The biomass contained approximately 25.80% of total carbohydrates, and 8.40% of total protein, while lipids constitute about 2% of the total dry weight which is consistent with the low lipid content typically found in seaweeds. S. dentifolium also produces volatile and non-volatile compounds as part of its metabolic processes. The most abundant volatile compound identified was phytol, which has various industrial and pharmaceutical applications. Saturated fatty acids (SFAs) were the most frequently detected non-volatile compounds, with palmitic acid being the most common. The total phenolic content was 50.6 mg g−1 (5.06%), and the total flavonoid content was 33.9 mg g−1 (3.39%) of the total dry-weight extract. S. dentifolium extract demonstrated significant antioxidant activity, with radical scavenging properties and phenolic content that may contribute to its antioxidant efficacy. It also showed cytotoxic activity against cancer cells, particularly human hepatocellular liver carcinoma (HepG2) and human colon carcinoma (HCT-116) cells, indicating their potential as a source of anti-cancer agents. However, the extract exhibited moderate to weak antiviral activity and limited antimicrobial activity against specific microorganisms. Bismuth-based nanoparticles are promising and widely employed in environmental cleanup. Eco-friendly Bi-based nanoparticle synthesis is being explored for nanoscale fabrication. In this study, we report on the green fabrication of alpha bismuth oxide nanoparticles (α-Bi2O3 NPs) using an extract from the Himalayan plant Rubus ellipticus. α-Bi2O3 nanoparticles were fabricated using methanol extract of the fruits (REF-NPs) and leaves (REL-NPs) of Rubus ellipticus. The optimal synthesis of α-Bi2O3 NPs was evaluated through X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM), UV-vis spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques for crystal structure, shape, and optical characteristics. The visible light photocatalytic degradation of toxic dye-Congo red using REF-NPs and REL-NPs was performed. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesized NPs was estimated to be in order of REL-NPs > REF-NPs, with photo-degradation efficiencies of 89.2% and 84.2%, respectively, for Congo red. REL-NPs exhibited the highest rate, which was found to be 1.4 times higher than the REF-NPs sample. Photodegradation experiments revealed that the fabricated α-Bi2O3 exhibits enhanced degradation performance for toxic Congo red dye. The antimicrobial efficacy of REL-NPs and REF-NPs against Gram-positive (S. aureus and B. subtilis) and Gram-negative (E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa) bacteria, was determined. The majority of the advancement in cellulose-based materials over the past few years has unquestionably been made through the extraction of micro-sized fibers from plant sources. One of the most noticeable fiber crops with exceptional cellulose content among the best fibers is Hibiscus sabdariffa L. In this study, a novel attempt was made to produce the eco-friendly nonwoven fabric using H. sabdariffa L. fiber through spun lacing technology. Subsequently, the spun-laced nonwoven has been coated with Vitex negundo L. extract to enhance the anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and moisture management properties through pad–dry–cure method. H. sabdariffa L. fiber extraction was accomplished with the use of bacterial retting. The extracted fibers were de-lignified to reduce the stiffness and increase the softness and flexibility of the nonwoven fabric. Fourier–transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis was carried out between the raw H. sabdariffa L. and V. negundo L. treated fiber. The antibacterial and antifungal efficacies of the nonwoven fabric were analyzed. The overall moisture management capability (OMMC) of the non-woven fabric was reported as 0.63. A new series of Coumarin‐tethered‐1,2,3‐triazoles (7a–i and 9a–f) were synthesized by the copper‐assisted 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition reaction of coumarin alkyne (5) with variedly substituted azides (6a–I and 8a–f). All the synthesized compounds were spectroscopically characterized and in vitro antimicrobial testing against a panel of bacterial and fungal strains was systematically carried out. The compounds bearing 3‐Cl (7b) and 2‐NO2 (7i) substituents which emerged as the most potent compounds of the series showed noticeable activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious, life‐threatening infectious disease that mostly affects the lungs and is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Still, in 2024, because of its widespreadness, contagious nature, and an increasing number of patients with other diseases, it is hard to cure, and leftovers as the deadliest disease to mankind across the world. In recent years, abundant efforts have been made to cure and eradicate TB, but drug‐resistant TB (DR‐TB) or multidrug‐resistant TB (MDR‐TB) surges the rate of mortality. Recently, World Health Organization (WHO) released the Global Tuberculosis (TB) Report 2022, in which the millions of infections and deaths stretched a line of serious concern to the scientists. In pursuit of searching for novel anti‐TB agents, several derivatives of sulfonamides have been synthesized and tested for their anti‐TB activity. ABSTRACT Novel three metal complexes were synthesized starting from the selenated Schiff base 2‐(((4‐(benzylselanyl)phenyl)imino)methyl)‐5‐nitrophenol (BnSeOH) ligand. Elements, spectral data, magnetic moment, molar conductance, and thermal gravimetric investigations were used to confirm their structures, as well as X‐ray diffraction, IR, NMR, and MS spectroscopic techniques. Octahedral geometry was proposed for the Fe (III), Cu (II), and Zn (II) complexes. The anticancer and antimicrobial activities were assessed against various mammalian cells and pathogenic strains. Within this context, the Fe (III) complex and BnSeOH ligand were the most cytotoxic, and their toxicity was more pronounced in the case of HepG2 cells. Likewise, the Fe (III) complex and BnSeOH ligand showed good antimicrobial activity against Candida Albicans, Bacillus subtilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa pathogens. Furthermore, the antioxidant properties were also estimated using DPPH and SOD bioassays. Computational analysis revealed the ligand exhibits lower reactivity relative to its metal complexes based on the ΔE gap and η values representing energy gap and hardness. The parameters examined in this study provide valuable insight into the bonding, electronic properties, reactivity, and polarity of the compounds under investigation. The use of antimicrobials is essential for the aquaculture sector; however, their misuse is cause for concern because it could adversely affect the environment and human health. Irresponsible use of antimicrobials can lead to antimicrobial resistance and result in the presence of unwanted residues in aquaculture products. The establishment of maximum residue limits (MRLs) for antimicrobials is of great importance for monitoring their correct use, but the lack of harmonized standards as well as the regulatory gaps for the aquatic products create a challenging situation, as it is reflected in import notifications related to food safety. This paper collects information about current MRLs for antimicrobials in aquatic commodities in the main importing and exporting countries of aquatic products and compares them with each other and with MRLs set by Codex Alimentarius. This analysis highlighted the need for Codex Alimentarius guidance regarding MRLs for nine antimicrobials in aquaculture products (chlortetracycline, doxycycline, enrofloxacin, erythromycin, florfenicol, sulfadimethoxine + ormetoprim, sulfamerazine, tetracycline, and trimethoprim). This paper shows that there is still work to do to implement exhaustive science‐based international standards for residues permitted in aquatic commodities and promote harmonization. In this study, novel Schiff base, PTIEO and PABHP were synthesized using Phenyl Glyoxal as a major constituent and their structures were elucidated through modern spectroscopic techniques. Antioxidant assays were performed using DPPH and ABTS assays. Further, PTIEO and PABHP were subjected to in vitro biological evaluations against ESKAP pathogens. This investigation revealed significant antibacterial activity of both compounds, with MIC below 64 μg mL−1 against Staphylococcus aureus and 64 μg mL−1 against Acinetobacter baummanii. In molecular docking studies, PTIEO shows enhanced binding energy with Acinetobacter baumannii bacterial protein Diaminopimelate epimerase at −7.45 Kcal mol−1, while PABHP exhibited −8.32 Kcal mol−1 binding energy with NADH‐dependent enoyl‐ACP reductase. Additionally, PTIEO and PABHP demonstrated good binding energy with Sortase‐A of Staphylococcus aureus at −7.59 Kcal mol−1 and −8.75 Kcal mol−1, respectively. Moreover, antifungal capabilities of these compounds were evaluated against pathogenic fungi Candida Albicans, Candida Parapsilosis, and Candida tropicalis, highlighting their broad‐spectrum antimicrobial properties. Moreover, PABHP displayed cytotoxicity with an IC50 value of 23.50 μg mL−1, suggesting its safer administration. ADMET calculations were also performed to demonstrate their effectiveness. Background: Astragali radix (AR) is one of the most widely used traditional Chinese herbal medicines. It exhibits diverse biological activities, including immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties; however, some of its activities have only been demonstrated in vitro. Objective: To examine the effects of orally administered AR extract on immune cells and the intestine under physiological conditions, which bridges the gap between previously observed in vitro outcomes and in vivo results. Methods: AR extract was prepared by hot water extraction. Three separate animal experiments were conducted to isolate macrophages, splenocytes, and the small intestine epithelium. For the macrophage preparation experiment, an intraperitoneal injection of sterile thioglycolate was administered. The mice received oral AR extract at doses of 0.1, 0.5, or 2.5 g/kg for ten days. At the end of each experiment, cells or tissues were isolated. A portion of macrophages and splenocytes were analyzed for the phenotypic changes. The remaining cells were cultured and stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or mitogen ex vivo to assess activation status, proliferation, and cytokine production. Samples of the intestine were subjected to real-time RT-PCR. Results: Peritoneal macrophages from AR-treated mice exhibited increased expression of scavenger receptors, including SRA and CD36. Stimulation of these macrophages ex vivo with LPS selectively modulated the inflammatory response, including reduced expression of the costimulatory molecules CD40 and CD86, which are important for T cell responses, without affecting TNF-α and IL-6 production. Splenocytes from AR-treated mice exhibited a dose-dependent increase in CD4 and CD8 T cells; however, stimulation with mitogen decreased T cell proliferation and reduced IFN-γ production, which is essential for macrophage activation. An analysis of the small intestinal epithelium revealed an attenuated antimicrobial response, including reduced IgA content in the lumen and decreased expression of mucin-2 and polymeric Ig receptor genes. Conclusion: The response of immune cells following oral treatment with AR extract did not replicate the previously documented in vitro findings. Immune cells and intestinal epithelium from mice administered oral AR extract exhibited a selective anti-inflammatory phenotype. Isoalantolactone (ISA) is a sesquiterpene lactone that could be isolated from Inula helenium as well as many other herbal plants belonging to Asteraceae. Over the past 2 decades, lots of researches have been made on ISA, which owns multiple pharmacological effects, such as antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, antidepressant-like activity, as well as others. The anticancer effects of ISA involve proliferation inhibition, ROS overproduction, apoptosis induction and cell cycle arrest. Sustainable functionalization of bacterial cellulose for cost‐effective bionanocomposites with desired properties has received growing attention in recent years. This article presents the results of work aimed at obtaining bionanocomposite materials based on bacterial cellulose, a natural and eco‐friendly material. Bacterial cellulose obtained from the Kombucha symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) fermentation process is functionalized by embedding with diatom frustules, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS). The effects of functionalization on mechanical, optical, plasmonic, electrical, chemiluminescent, and antimicrobial properties are evaluated. Morphological characteristics of the nanocomposites are studied using electron microscopy. Addition of diatom frustules introduced into the SCOBY culture media results in bionanocomposite materials with enhanced tensile strength and increased ultraviolet (UV) blockage properties. In situ functionalization of bacterial cellulose with AgNPs tunes plasmonic and chemiluminescent properties, revealing the biosensing potential of the material. Modified bacterial cellulose shows antimicrobial activity in experiments with gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria. Dual functionalization of bacterial cellulose with PEDOT:PSS and AgNPs results in improved electrical conductivity of the bionanocomposite. Overall, bottom‐up physical functionalization approaches and the resulting bionanocomposite materials will open up new opportunities for the low‐cost production of green materials and contribute to the development of a sustainable economy. Algae, both micro- and macroalgae, are recognized for their rich repository of bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic applications. These marine organisms produce a variety of secondary metabolites that exhibit significant anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, offering promising avenues for the development of new drugs and nutraceuticals. Algae-derived compounds, including polyphenols, carotenoids, lipids, and polysaccharides, have demonstrated efficacy in modulating key inflammatory pathways, reducing oxidative stress, and inhibiting microbial growth. At the molecular level, these compounds influence macrophage activity, suppress the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and regulate apoptotic processes. Studies have shown that algae extracts can inhibit inflammatory signaling pathways such as NF-κB and MAPK, reduce oxidative damage by activating Nrf2, and offer an alternative to traditional antibiotics by combatting bacterial infections. Furthermore, algae's therapeutic potential extends to addressing diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, and cancer, with ongoing research exploring their efficacy in preclinical animal models. The antimicrobial properties of a series of anionic bis(carbene) silver complexes Na3[Ag(NHCR)2] were investigated (2a–2g and 2c′, where NHCR is a 2,2′-(imidazol-2-ylidene)dicarboxylate-type N-heterocyclic carbene). The complexes were synthesized by the interaction of imidazolium dicarboxylate compounds with silver oxide in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide. Complexes 2f,g were characterized analytically and spectroscopically, and the ligand precursor 1f and complexes 2c and 2g were structurally identified by X-ray diffraction methods. The anions of 2c and 2g, [Ag(NHCR)2]3−, showed a typical linear disposition of Ccarbene-Ag-Ccarbene atoms and an uncommonly eclipsed conformation of carbene ligands. The antimicrobial properties of complexes 2a–g, which contains chiral (2b–2e and 2c′) and non-chiral derivatives (2a,f,g), were evaluated against Gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and a Gram-positive bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus. From the observed values of the minimal inhibitory concentration and minimal bactericidal concentration, complexes 2a and 2b showed the best antimicrobial activity against all strains. An interesting chirality–antimicrobial relationship was found, and eutomer 2c′ showed better activity than its enantiomer 2c against the three bacteria. Furthermore, these complexes were investigated experimentally and theoretically by 109Ag nuclear magnetic resonance, and the electronic and steric characteristics of the dianionic carbene ligands were also examined. Organic compounds with antibacterial and antiparasitic properties are gaining significance for biomedical applications. This study focuses on the solvent-free synthesis (green synthesis) of 1,4-naphthoquinone or 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone with different phenylamines using silica gel as an acid solid support. The study also includes in silico PASS predictions and the discovery of antibacterial and antiparasitic properties of phenylaminonaphthoquinone derivatives 1–12, which can be further applied in drug discovery and development. These activities were discussed in terms of molecular descriptors such as hydrophobicity, molar refractivity, and half-wave potentials. The in vitro antimicrobial potential of the synthesized compounds 1–12 was evaluated against a panel of six bacterial strains (three Gram-positive: Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterococcus faecalis; and three Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Klebsiella pneumoniae). Six compounds (1, 3, 5, 7, 10, and 11) showed better activity toward S. aureus with MIC values between 3.2 and 5.7 μg/mL compared to cefazolin (MIC = 4.2 μg/mL) and cefotaxime (MIC = 8.9 μg/mL), two cephalosporin antibiotics. Regarding in vitro antiplasmodial activity, compounds 1 and 3 were the most active against the Plasmodium falciparum strain 3D7 (chloroquine-sensitive), displaying IC50 values of 0.16 and 0.0049 μg/mL, respectively, compared to chloroquine (0.33 μg/mL). In strain FCR-3 (chloroquine-resistant), most of the compounds showed good activity, with compounds 3 (0.12 μg/mL) and 11 (0.55 μg/mL) being particularly noteworthy. Porous hydrogels have brought more advantages than conventional hydrogels when used as chromatographic materials, controlled release vehicles for drugs and proteins, matrices for immobilization or separation of molecules and cells, or as scaffolds in tissue engineering. Polysaccharide-based porous hydrogels, in particular, can address challenges related to bioavailability, solubility, stability, and targeted delivery of natural antioxidant compounds. Their porous structure enables the facile encapsulation and controlled release of these compounds, enhancing their therapeutic effectiveness. In this context, in the present study, the cryogelation technique has been adopted to prepare novel dextran (Dx)-based porous hydrogels embedding polyphenol-rich natural extract from Picea abies spruce bark (SBE). The entrapment of the SBE within the Dx network was proved by FTIR, SEM, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). SEM analysis showed that entrapment of SBE resulted in denser cryogels with smaller and more uniform pores. Swelling kinetics confirmed that higher concentrations of Dx, EGDGE, and SBE reduced water uptake. The release studies demonstrated the effective stabilization of SBE in the Dx-based cryogels, with minimal release irrespective of the approach selected for SBE incorporation, i.e., during synthesis (~3–4%) or post-synthesis (~15–16%). In addition, the encapsulation of SBE within the Dx network endowed the hydrogels with remarkable antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Skin wounds, due to their high vulnerability to infections, represent a significant public health issue. These wounds are not only disabling but also entail costly treatments and slow recovery. Consequently, it is crucial to implement new treatments based on bioactive and natural antimicrobial compounds utilizing fibers, polymers, hydrocolloids, and hydrogels to control potential infections and promote wound healing. This study aimed to develop a biocomposite with antimicrobial activity for the treatment of skin wounds, using sodium alginate, bamboo fiber, and a natural antimicrobial as ingredients. The physico-mechanical properties (Young's modulus, tensile strength, elongation at break, moisture absorption, and water vapor permeability) and antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus hominis were determined. The results demonstrated that the designed biocomposite possesses adequate physico-mechanical properties, such as flexibility, strength, and water absorption capacity, in addition to exhibiting antibacterial activity, making it suitable to be used as a dressing in wound treatment. Objective: A series of novel fluorine containing (Z)-5-chloro-2-(4-fluorobenzylidene)-4,6-dimethylbenzofuran-3(2H)-one (IVa–IVe) and (E)-(5-chloro-3-(4-fluorostyryl)-4,6-dimethylbenzofuran-2-yl)(4-chlorophenyl)methanone derivatives (Va–Ve) have been synthesized by using (E)-1-(3-chloro-6-hydroxy-2,4-dimethylphenyl)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (IIIa–IIIe). Methods: The formation of the synthesized compounds was confirmed by IR, 1H, 13C NMR, and mass spectral data. All synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity. Results and Discussion: Most of the synthesized compounds have shown better antimicrobial activity as compared to standard drug. Molecular docking study against DNA gyrase could provide insights into binding modes and affinities. The binding affinity data was found to be in harmony with the experimental antimicrobial activities. Background: Dairy cow milking practices require cleaning and disinfection of the teat skin before and after milking to ensure the safety and quality of milk and prevent intramammary infections. Antimicrobial proteins of natural origin can be valuable alternatives to traditional disinfectants. In a recent field trial, we demonstrated that a teat dip based on a nisin A-producing Lactococcus cremoris (L) had comparable efficacy to conventional iodophor dip (C) in preventing dairy cow mastitis. Here, we present the differential shotgun proteomics investigation of the milk collected during the trial. Methods: Four groups of quarter milk samples with low (LSCC) and high somatic cell count (HSCC) collected at the beginning (T0) and end (TF) of the trial were analyzed for a total of 28 LSCC (14 LSCC T0 and 14 LSCC TF) and 12 HSCC (6 HSCC T0 and 6 HSCC TF) samples. Milk proteins were digested into peptides, separated by nanoHPLC, and analyzed by tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) on an Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid mass spectrometer. The proteins were identified with MaxQuant and interaction networks of the differential proteins were investigated with STRING. The proteomics data have been deposited to the ProteomeXchange Consortium via the PRIDE partner repository with the dataset identifier PXD045030. Results: In healthy milk (LSCC), we detected 90 and 80 differential proteins at T0 and TF, respectively. At TF, the Lactococcus group showed higher levels of antimicrobial proteins. In mastitis milk (HSCC), we detected 88 and 106 differential proteins at T0 and TF, respectively. In the Lactococcus group, 14 proteins with antimicrobial and immune defense functions were enriched at TF vs. 4 proteins at T0. Cathelicidins were among the most relevant enriched proteins. Western immunoblotting validation confirmed the differential abundance. Conclusions: At T0, the proteomic differences observed in healthy milk of the two groups were most likely dependent on physiological variation. On the other hand, antimicrobial and immune defense functions were higher in the milk of cows with mammary gland inflammation of the Lactococcus-treated group. This study targets explicitly finding an alternative to petroleum‐based plastic films that burden the environment, which is a high priority. Hence, polymeric films were prepared with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) (4%), pectin (2%), and polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) (0.5%) with different concentrations of thymol (0.3%, 0.9%, 1.8%, 3%, and 5%) and glycerol as a plasticizer by solution casting technique. The prepared films were tested for mechanical, optical, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Film F5 (CMC + P + PHB + 0.9%thymol) showed an excellent tensile strength of 15 MPa, Young's modulus of 395 MPa, antioxidant activity (AA) (92%), rapid soil biodegradation (21 days), and strong antimicrobial activity against bacterial and fungal cultures such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus flavus. The thymol content increase in films F6 (1.8%), F7 (3%), and F8 (5%) displayed a decrease in mechanical properties due to thymol's hydrophobicity. For shelf life studies on tomatoes, F2, a film without thymol (poor antimicrobial and antioxidant activities), F5 (film with superior mechanical, optical, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties), and F7 (film with low mechanical properties) were selected. Film F5 coatings on tomato fruit enhanced the shelf life of up to 15 days by preventing weight loss, preserving firmness, and delaying changes in biochemical constituents like lycopene, phenols, and AA. Based on the mechanical, optical, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and shelf life results, the film F5 is suitable for active food packaging and preservation. Practical Application: The developed active biodegradable composite can be utilized as a coating to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. These coatings are easy to produce and apply, offering a sustainable solution to reduce food waste. The continuous growth of biofilm infections and their resilience to conventional cleaning methods and antimicrobial agents pose a worldwide challenge across diverse sectors. This persistent medical, industrial, and environmental issue contributes to treatment challenges and chronic diseases. Lactic acid bacteria have garnered global attention for their substantial antimicrobial effects against pathogens and established beneficial roles. Notably, their biofilms are also predicted to show a promising control strategy against pathogenic biofilm formation. The prevalence of biofilm-related problems underscores the need for extensive research and innovative solutions to tackle this global challenge. This novel study investigates the effect of different extracts (external, internal, and mixed extracts) obtained from Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG biofilm on pathogenic-formed biofilms. Subsequently, external extracts presented an important eradication effectiveness. Furthermore, a 6-fold concentration of these extracts led to eradication percentages of 57%, 67%, and 76% for Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms, respectively, and around 99.9% bactericidal effect of biofilm cells was observed for the three strains. The results of this research could mark a significant breakthrough in the field of anti-biofilm and antimicrobial strategies. Further studies and molecular research will be necessary to detect the molecules secreted by the biofilm, and their mechanisms of action engaged in new anti-biofilm strategies. Malaria, a persistent and ancient adversary, continues to impact vast regions worldwide, afflicting millions and severely affecting human health and well‐being. Recently, despite significant progress in combating this parasitic disease, malaria remains a major global health concern, especially in areas with limited resources and vulnerable populations. Consequently, identifying and developing effective agents to combat malaria and its associated dysfunctions is essential therefore the two new Schiff base ligands incorporated Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions were synthesized and thoroughly characterized. The synthesized compounds were assessed for in vitro anti‐malarial and antimicrobial efficacy, compounds (9, 10) demonstrated highest potential with IC50=1.08±0.09 to 1.18±0.04 μM against P. falciparum and MIC=0.0058 μmol/mL against C. albicans and E. coli, respectively. The complexes (5, 6) were effectively reduce mitigate oxidative stress with lowest IC50 value of 2.69±0.12 to 2.87±0.09 μM. Moreover, the biological findings were reinforced by a molecular docking investigation involving the potential compounds (2, 7–10) against dihydroorotate dehydrogenase and sterol 14‐alpha demethylase proteins which exposed complex's excellent biological response than their parent ligands. Citrus essential oils (CEOs) are natural aromatic compounds having complex mixtures of volatile and non-volatile components. They have found a wide application in cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals and are regarded as Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) by Food and Drug Administration (FDA, 2020) to be utilized in food. By-products of citrus fruit industries are enriched with good sources of bioactive compounds and can be incorporated into the food industry. Peels are the largest amount of processing waste consisting functional ingredients such as essential oil and pectin. The challenge in utilizing CEOs in food is its interaction with the composition of the food substrate. Using nanotechnology the size of nanomaterials ranges between 20 and 200 nm diameter that provides larger surface area that enhancing solubility in aqueous phase, protecting compounds of CEOs from oxidation and reducing changes in sensory properties. The chemical composition, antimicrobial, and antibiofilm activities of the essential oil from the fruits of Turkish endemic Prangos hulusii were studied. Essential oil was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-nine compounds were identified, which represent 98.6% of the total composition of the essential oil. Monoterpene hydrocarbons and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were the most represented classes of volatiles with 49.8% and 21.0%, respectively. The main constituents of the essential oil were (E)-methyl cinnamate (22.9%), α-phellandrene (13.8%), and (E)-β-ocimene (12.9%). (E)-methyl cinnamate was detected in Prangos spp. for the first time. Antimicrobial activities against three Gram-positive bacteria, three Gram-negative bacteria, and three yeast strains were evaluated using disk diffusion test and microdilution method. Antibiofilm experiments were done by spectrophotometric microplate method and the results of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans were visualized via scanning electron microscopy. In this study, a novel bio-composite material that allow sustained release of plant derived antimicrobial compound was developed for the biomedical applications to prevent the infections caused by microorganisms resistant to commercial antimicrobials agents. With this aim, bacterial cellulose (BC)-p(HEMA) nanocomposite film that imprinted with eugenol (EU) via metal chelated monomer, MAH was prepared. Firstly, characterization studies were utilized by FTIR, SEM and BET analysis. Then antimicrobial assays, drug release studies and in vitro cytotoxicity test were performed. A significant antimicrobial effect against both Gram (+) Staphylococcus aureus and Gram (-) Escherichia coli bacteria and a yeast Candida albicans were observed even in low exposure time periods. When antimicrobial effect of EU compared with commercially used agents, both antifungal and antibacterial activity of EU were found to be higher. Then, sustained drug release studies showed that approximately 55% of EU was released up to 50 h. This result proved the achievement of the molecular imprinting for an immobilization of molecules that desired to release on an area in a long-time interval. Finally, the in vitro cytotoxicity experiment performed with the mouse L929 cell line determined that the synthesized EU-imprinted BC nanocomposite was biocompatible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tailocins are naturally occurring bacteriocins that are promising alternative antimicrobials, yet the diversity of naturally occurring tailocins is limited. As tailocins structurally and functionally resemble phage tails, phages may be used as scaffolds for developing novel antimicrobial tailocins. The abundance and diversity of tailed phages will provide a much broader repertoire of tailocins to target any required bacteria. Tailocins may be produced by disrupting the capsid–tail junction of phage particles or by preventing capsid assembly during phage infection. Novel technologies for phage engineering and synthetic biology can be utilized to produce tailocins using synthetic biology approaches. Tailocins are high-molecular-weight bacteriocins produced by bacteria to kill related environmental competitors by binding and puncturing their target. Tailocins are promising alternative antimicrobials, yet the diversity of naturally occurring tailocins is limited. The structural similarities between phage tails and tailocins advocate using phages as scaffolds for developing new tailocins. This article reviews three strategies for producing tailocins: disrupting the capsid–tail junction of phage particles, blocking capsid assembly during phage propagation, and creating headless phage particles synthetically. Particularly appealing is the production of tailocins through synthetic biology using phages with contractile tails as scaffolds to unlock the antimicrobial potential of tailocins. Polymer specifications' optimization for tailored applications is desirable for enhanced applicability. In this research, we have successfully prepared the PMMA/metal oxide (0.1 wt% CeO2, and TiO2) through a feasible casting method. The implications of the metal oxides incorporation were explored. XRD reveals the successful formation of the composites, with 20 nm crystallite size of both composites. FTIR reinforces the intended composite formation with significant bands allocation. Optical bandgaps for PMMA/CeO2 and PMMA/TiO2 are 2.91 and 3.15 eV for direct transitions, respectively. For indirect transitions, the bandgap is around 3.33 eV for both. Other optical parameters were calculated as real and imaginary dielectric constants. THz displays a linear manner with a somewhat more PMMA fixed band due to the inharmony of intermolecular vibration mode. Dielectric studies manifest polymer loss spectra with multiple non-Debye relaxation progressions β, and γ relaxations alongside MVS polarization for films containing CeO2 or TiO2. The synthesized nanocomposites indicated antibacterial influence against (S. aureus, and B. subtilis) as Gram-positive bacteria, and (E. coli, and K. pneumoniae) as Gram-negative bacteria, (C. albicans) (A. niger) as yeast and Fungi strains. We herein report the synthesis, spectral analysis, DFT calculations, in vitro and in silico biological activities of novel N'-((2-thioxo-1,2-dihydroquinolin-3 yl)methylene)isonicotinohydr-azide with its Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) complexes have been successfully prepared. The ligand and the complexes were characterized by analytical, FT-IR, 1H NMR, mass, UV–visible spectroscopy, molar conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Density Functional Theory (DFT) estimations for the ligand at the DFT/B3LYP level via 6-31 G++ (d, p) replicate the structure and geometry. Furthermore, molecular docking and ADME calculations were also performed to correlate and interpret the experimental results. The antimicrobial activity study illustrated enhancement in the activity of the free ligand upon complex formation, and the Cu(II) complex (MIC 25 µg mL−1) may be considered a promising antibacterial agent, and Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes (MIC 25 µg mL−1) as promising antifungal agent. Also, synthesized Ni(II) and Zn(II) metal complexes (MIC 3.125 µg mL−1) showed promising anti-TB activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the antioxidant activity, the Cu(II) complex showed excellent activity as compared to standard drugs and in silico docking studies were carried out against Cytochrome c Peroxidase (PDB ID: 2X08). The DMSO/I2 mediated cyclization reaction of (E)-3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one afforded the 2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-one (DMPC). DMPC was characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HRMS techniques. DMPC was screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against four bacterial strains namely E. coli, B. subtilis, S. aureus, and Streptococcus spp. and antifungal activity against R. oryzae, P. chrysogenum, A. niger, and C. albicans fungal strains. The synthesized compounds exhibited significant antibacterial and antifungal properties. DMPC possesed potent antibacterial activity against Streptococcus spp. while the powerful antifungal action was found against P. chrysogenum. Besides % free radical scavenging activity was accessed using DPPH and OH assays. DMPC was found to be more active DPPH radical scavenger than OH radical. Theoretical investigation of DMPC was carried out by density functional theory (DFT) method at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. Computational investigation of molecular structure, MESP, and HOMO–LUMO was performed to study DMPC. The calculated energy gap of FMOs was found to be 4.25 eV for DMPC. In the MESP plot, the most electronegative potential region found around the oxygen atom. The theoretical and experimental NMR was correlated and correct NMR assignments have been made. Based on the physicochemical features, lipophilicity, water solubility, pharmacokinetic characteristics, and drug similarity matching investigations, the DMPC was revealed to have favorable biological qualities. Diallyl thiosulfinate (DT), a major organosulfur chemical with several notable therapeutic characteristics, is highly unstable and easily degradable which restricts its extensive use in biopharmaceutical commodities. Therefore, utilizing the self-assembly nature of polyoxyethylene (Brij S20 and Brij 58), appropriate pH-responsive micelle carrier systems have been designed to entrap and improve DT's stability at an ambient temperature (25 °C) while preserving its quantity and biological activity. Comparing with the Brij S20 with the Brij 58 micelle carrier system, the latter demonstrated superior stability and entrapment of DT. In addition, it was found that DT's stability in micellized condition is significantly influenced by both pH and temperature (p < 0.05). The micelle system was capable enough to reduce degradation significantly. Additionally, the liberation of DT from micelle is greatly aided by acidic pH 1.5. Around 77% DT was released from Brij 58 system. Various biochemical analyses were done. The liberation of DT from the micelle in a controlled manner using lower pH as stimuli may facilitate its biological action at an individual's gastrointestinal lumen or near cancer cell environment having lower pH. Additionally, it was made sure that the micellization method did not impair DT's bioactivity or reduce appropriate biocompatibility. The first total synthesis of phenethylamine alkaloid based natural products discolin A, B, E and bacillimidazole B is reported, which were isolated from marine sea bacteria Tenacibaculum discolor sv11 and marine sponge. Total syntheses of discolin A, B, E and bacillimidazole B are achieved in two linear steps including condensation reaction and N-alkylation reaction with an overall yield of 68%, 35%, 65%, and 32%, respectively. A total of 24 analogues are prepared with moderate to excellent yield. All the natural products and their analogues were screened for antibacterial activity. Citrus seed waste is a significant byproduct of the Citrus processing industry. While Citrus fruit is a rich source of bioactive chemicals, little is known about the possible health benefits of the seeds. This study investigates the antioxidant and antibacterial properties of Citrus volkameriana Ten. & Pasq. (Family: Rutaceae) seeds' extracts as well as their constituents, to identify potential applications for this underutilised resource. The studied extracts are petroleum ether extract (CVPE) and 70 % aqueous methanolic extract (CVME). CVPE exhibited higher antioxidant activity than CVME using ABTS and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated using the disc diffusion method against different microbial strains, CVME inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Helicobacter pylori at a minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), ranging between 2.2 and 97 mg/mL. Whereas CVPE only inhibited the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at MIC 41.6 mg/mL. CVME showed potentially bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 83.25 mg/mL for each. The MBC of CVME reached 20 mg/mL against Staphylococcus epidermidis. GC/MS analysis of the unsaponifiable and the saponifiable matters of CVPE revealed the identification of forty-three and fifteen compounds, respectively. Twenty compounds were identified in CVME using HPLC-ESI-MS/MS analysis where caffeic acid, quinic acid, caffeoyl quinic acid, citric acid, astringin, luteone 7- O -glucoside, and myricetin are the major peaks. Moreover, in silico molecular docking, drug-likeness, and ADMET features investigations were performed to identify the potential antimicrobial compounds from CVME. Astringin, luteone 7- O -glucoside, and myricetin showed the best docking score and good binding interactions with the active site of the bacterial target enzymes, DNA Gyrase B, topoisomerase and H. Pylori peptide deformylase. Finally, this study suggests that C. volkameriana seed extracts have the potential to be a natural source of antioxidants and antimicrobials. CVME, which is rich in phenolic compounds and has a wider spectrum of antimicrobial activity, could be a good candidate for further development. This article reports an efficient and practical microwave-assisted MMPP-promoted synthesis of novel pyrazolyl sulfones from the corresponding 4-(alkyl/cycloalkylthio)-1H-pyrazoles. The reaction of 4-(alkyl/cycloalkylthio)-1H-pyrazoles with magnesium bis(monoperoxyphthalate)hexahydrate (MMPP) as an oxidizing agent afforded the corresponding 4-(alkyl/cycloalkylsulfonyl)-1,3-disubstituted-1H-pyrazoles in 85–95% yield. This method's benefits include its straightforward operation, simple workup, and use of an inexpensive, halogen-free MMPP oxidant that is easy to use and reasonably stable. All synthesized pyrazolyl sulfones were examined against bacterial and fungal strains, and notable antimicrobial activity was demonstrated by a few of the compounds. In order to investigate the prospect of connecting compounds with the highest yield and antimicrobial activity with their opto-electronic properties, time-resolved photoluminescence investigations for compounds 5a, 5b, and 5d were conducted. The tunable spectrum was observed in the micro-second time domain in all three cases, with fluorescent lifetime found higher in the compound having methyl group, intermediate with phenyl group, and lowest with the p-nitrophenyl group. Our procedures will encourage additional research into the valuable properties of pyrazolyl sulfones now that they are widely available with the structural complexity illustrated here. Recent research has focused on the methods for administration of medications in a controlled manner while minimizing side effects. Cross-linked hydrogels have wide application area as nanocarriers. There are many approaches for developing suitable methods to produce ideal particles. Advances in microtechnology have been considered as a solution to produce controlled drug delivery systems, however, it is limited due to the necessity for specialized laboratories. In this study, a simple method to produce antibiotic-loaded chitosan particles is proposed. Production was carried out with two different designs, a syringe-based flow focusing system (outer diameter of 1 mm, inner diameter of 120 µm) and microchannel with 250 µm width and 100 µm height fabricated with the computer numerical control (CNC). Sodium Triphosphate (TPP) was used as cross-linking agent for the production of particles and the effects of the concentration and flow rates on the particle formation was investigated. It has been observed that particles can be produced in a syringe-based system, but the resulting particles are not homogeneous. In the studies carried out with CNC microchannel, it was determined by SEM analysis that the obtained particles ranged in size from 39 to 771 nm, and it was seen that the CNC microchannel was more effective at low and equal flow rates (25 µl/min). It has been found that increasing the flow rate and concentration of chitosan increases the particle size. It was determined that Ampicillin loaded particles synthesized with the CNC microchannel exhibited high inhibition against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. These results show that the proposed approaches for the design of microsystems can be used in the formation of drug carriers without the need for specialized laboratories and expertise. Pythium insidiosum is an important oomycete pathogen of mammals that causes pythiosis, an endemic disease in warm climates that stands out for its unfavorable prognosis, lethality in the affected species, and difficulties in treatment. This study evaluated in vitro anti-P. insidiosum potential of aqueous, hydroethanolic, and ethanolic extracts of indigenous wild mushrooms from southern Brazil. The extracts were prepared from Amanita gemmata, Amanita muscaria, Auricularia auricula, Gymnopilus junonius, Lactarius deliciosus, Laccaria laccata, Psilocybe cubensis, and Russula xerampelina. In vitro susceptibility assays employed the microdilution technique according to the M38-A2 protocol CLSI. The hydroethanolic and ethanolic extracts of R. xerampelina showed anti-P. insidiosum activity at minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 1.87--7.50 mg/mL. The other mushroom species extracts showed no inhibitory effects on growth of P. insidiosum. This is the first study to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of mushrooms on oomycetes, evidencing the antimicrobial potential of R. xerampelina on the pathogen P. insidiosum. So, the present study expands new perspectives, since the secondary metabolites produced by mushrooms can be potential targets for the development of new categories of medicines. However, considering the wide biodiversity of Brazilian mushrooms, we suggested that the search for other basidiomycetes species with anti-P. insidiosum action needs to be expanded. Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are among the most common indications for antimicrobial prescribing in hospitals. Inappropriate antimicrobial use can lead to increased morbidity, unnecessary hospital re-admission and increased antimicrobial resistance. This study aimed to assess the quality of antimicrobial prescribing practices in SSTI management within Australian hospitals to provide guidance for future practice. A retrospective analysis was conducted with data from the National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (NAPS). SSTI prescribing data from Hospital NAPS (2013–2022) and surgical site infection data from Surgical NAPS (2016–2022) datasets were analysed. Variables assessed included guideline compliance, appropriateness as per the structured NAPS algorithm, and reasons for inappropriateness. From the Hospital NAPS dataset, 40,535 antimicrobial prescriptions for SSTIs were analysed. The most common indication was cellulitis (34.1%, N =13,822), and the most prescribed antimicrobial was flucloxacillin (18.8%, N =7,638). SSTI indications had a lower rate of guideline compliance but a higher rate of appropriateness compared with all other indications for antimicrobial prescriptions (guideline compliance 66.3%, N =21,035 vs 67.4%, N =156,285; appropriateness 75.6%, N =30,639 vs 72.7%, N =209,383). The most common reason for inappropriateness was incorrect dose or frequency (29.3%, N =2367). From the Surgical NAPS dataset, 5674 prescriptions for surgical site infections were analysed. Of these, 68.2% (N =3867) were deemed to be appropriate. The most common reason for inappropriateness was incorrect dose or frequency (27.7%, N =350). As SSTIs are a common indication for prescribing an antimicrobial in Australian hospitals, identifying effective antimicrobial stewardship strategies to optimize antimicrobial use for SSTI management is recommended to improve patient outcomes. A lot of attention has been paid to cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) due to their wide availability with a great potential to replace synthetic materials. The formation of CNCs from agricultural waste has numerous positive economic and environmental consequences. Cellulose nanocrystals were synthesized from pineapple leaf by acid hydrolysis and characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, etc. Different concentrations of cellulose nanocrystals (1%, 3%, and 5% w/w) reinforced gelatin-based bio-nano composite was coated on tissue paper. The optimized fibrogenic solution was infused with three different plant leaf extracts (Banana leaf extract, Mantharai leaf extract, and Lotus leaf extract) used as an antimicrobial agent for hygienic tissue paper. Thickness, grammage, and bulk density analysis show the efficiency of the coating formation. The coated tissue paper shows increased mechanical properties and air permeability but significantly reduced water vapour permeability. Antimicrobial efficacy showed improved activity against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC-2913), Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (ATCC-27853), and fungi Candida glabrata (NCYC 388). Today nanotechnology is widely spread and plays an important role in many fields, especially the medical field. Nanoparticles (NPs) have unique physicochemical properties giving them additional activities which encourage their use in many applications. Nanoparticles can be synthesized through three main methods: chemical, physical, and biological. The best method is biological synthesis that is considered green, sustainable, eco-friendly, and economic. It depends on living organisms or their extracts including plants, bacteria, algae, fungi, and yeasts instead of toxic chemicals. Yeasts are promising microorganisms that recently attract the attention of many researchers to discover their potential in biosynthesis of nanoparticles that can be applied in different fields. Many research studies proved the ability of various yeast species to synthesize various metal and metal oxide nanoparticles whether intracellularly or extracellularly. Such nanoparticles include silver, gold, selenium, selenium sulfide, zinc sulfide, palladium, manganese dioxide, and titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Yeast-mediated nanoparticles have biomedical activities such as anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. Studies revealed that yeast-synthesized nanoparticles have safe and nontoxic properties. Compared to research on NPs biosynthesis using bacteria and fungi, there are fewer research that focused on using yeast in NPs biosynthesis which makes it a promising area for more scientific discoveries in biosynthesis and applications of NPs. Lactic acid bacteria (LABs) are microorganisms of significant scientific and industrial importance and have great potential for application in meat and meat products. This comprehensive review addresses the main characteristics of LABs, their nutritional, functional, and technological benefits, and especially their importance not only as starter cultures. LABs produce several metabolites during their fermentation process, which include bioactive compounds, such as peptides with antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, and immunomodulatory properties. These metabolites present several benefits as health promoters but are also important from a technological point of view. For example, bacteriocins, organic acids, and other compounds are of great importance, whether from a sensory or product quality or a safety point of view. With the production of GABA, exopolysaccharides, antioxidants, and vitamins are beneficial metabolites that influence safety, technological processes, and even health-promoting consumer benefits. Despite the benefits, this review also highlights that some LABs may present virulence properties, requiring critical evaluation for using specific strains in food formulations.
