- Abstract
This article describes the case of a 17-year-old patient who, as a consequence of sialadenitis, begins to manifest the symptoms of tinnitus, i.e. the perception of a sound heard in the absence of an external acoustic stimulus; the symptoms are associated with anxiety and relational difficulties. A treatment was designed in accordance with the acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) model, with the aim of promoting adaptation by increasing psychological flexibility. Moreover, communication and relational difficulties were addressed through assertiveness training. The outcome is characterized by the remission of tinnitus and a significant decrease in anxiety symptoms, accompanied by an improvement in relational abilities. In this case, the results demonstrate that ACT is a useful treatment for secondary psychological problems associated with tinnitus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The present work intends to present the results emerging from the application of a cognitive behavioural (CBT) group intervention protocol for the management of anxiety: this protocol was developed to increase coping skills in patients with anxiety disorder symptoms, both in terms of cognitive and behavioural competencies. The methodology followed during the meetings was typical of skills training groups: the project was structured in 8 group meetings of an hour and a half each and an individual assessment with a battery of psychometric inventories (STAI-Y, SCL90-R, CBA-VE) was administered before and after training. From 2020 to 2022, 6 groups were activated involving 28 subjects (including one dropout) with anxiety disorders diagnosed according to the DSM-5 criteria, with the presence of some subjects with a primary diagnosis of another type in comorbidity. The test results were analysed by comparing the means of the scores and analysing the effect size given by the Cohen d index. The protocol has shown a significant decrease in anxiety and depression scores and an improvement in those of subjective well-being and the perception of positive change. The protocol shows a significant reduction in symptoms related to anxiety and an increase in individual well-being, in addition to the change in some symptom areas not directly affected by the intervention. The study has the advantage of providing to public service operators an easily replicated and standardized protocol that can be applied with the involvement of a limited number of professionals.

Introduction. Work-related psychosocial risks have been identified as significant occupational health and safety risks; the occupational physicians must assess and monitor the health status of workers in order to verify that work is not a source of harm to exposed operators. The aim of the study was to investigate the outcomes related to anxiety and depression traits in workers exposed to stress-related work. Methods. A questionnaire was administered to a large population of Italian public administration workers; the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies - Depression Scale questionnaire was used to measure depression, the Self rating Anxiety Scale was used to measure anxiety, the UK Management Standards Indicator tool questionnaire was used to assess work adjustment. A descriptive analysis, a multivariate analysis, as well as logistic regression models were used to assess the health outcomes related to stress. Results. A total of 292 workers participated in the study; 100% of participants had a Centre for Epidemiologic Studies - Depression Scale score over the cut-off; 41.78% had a Self rating Anxiety Scale score over the cut-off; the results support a correlation between the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies - Depression Scale results and the UK Management Standards Indicator tool results; and a correlation between Self-rating Anxiety Scale results and the UK Management Standards Indicator tool results. Conclusions. The Demand, Management, Support and Relationship results were associated with mental health outcomes, and it could be a useful tool in occupational medicine, to identify workers at risk for negative mental health outcomes, becoming an essential tool in workers' health assessment and for prevention of mental health disorders.

The article discusses dominance and oppression in society due to cultural complexes filled with collective memories of destructiveness and perpetration, implicit memories which have remained repressed. Individual personal complexes and traumas are intertwined with traumatizing historical circumstances, setting up pairs of perpetrator and victim. The metaphors of devouring and asphyxiation are used to denote interpersonal and group relationships in which feelings of imprisonment, suffocating anxiety and expulsion are predominant, all of which leads to painful projections and introjections, dissociation and suffering. Asphyxiating death symbolizes not only environmental devastation by fire, the pandemic and the plague, but is also seen as a symptom of acute anxiety in modern times. Devouring stands for the annulment of the objectified Other in a patriarchal society best revealed in fratricidal struggles, the oppression of women and, ultimately, wars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ACADEMIC achievement , *SELF-esteem , *ACCOUNTING students , *WELL-being , *ANXIETY , *PARENT-teacher relationships - Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between selfesteem, school well-being and academic achievement in a sample of 8 to 13 year-old-students, taking into account the student, parent and teacher's point of view. This study has confirmed the existence of a reciprocal influence between the child's educational achievement and his/her school self-esteem. According to the findings of this investigation, the main factors related with academic selfesteem are the anxiety level, the learning skills and school well-being. The learning skills and school well-being are also significantly related with academic achievement, on the contrary anxiety is a mediator of these relationships. This research may be useful for the development of programs and strategies to promote child's well-being, self-esteem and success at school having parent's and teacher's involvement. WIDOWHOOD , *PSYCHOLOGICAL distress , *COMMUNICABLE diseases , *MYALGIA , *FAKE news , *THEMATIC analysis - Abstract
Covid-19 has originally spread in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease causes respiratory impairments and many other complications, such as fatigue, fever, muscle soreness and, in some cases, diarrhea and nausea, and can lead to death. The correlation between infectious diseases and psychological distress has already emerged during other epidemics, for example during SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and Ebola. We conducted this systematic review to investigate the short-term psychological consequences of Covid-19 on the general population. Through a thematic analysis procedure, recurring themes have been identified. The most significant results concern the impact of social media, anxiety, and depression. In particular, fake news reported by the media increase the level of anxiety experienced by the population, and factors like being young or being old, being a student, being single or widow, along with a low level of education, further exacerbate anxiety symptoms. On the other hand, following the guidelines proposed by the government and having clear and comprehensible information were identified as protective factors. Our findings highlighted the need to monitor the high-risk population and to investigate the long-term effects of the pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding the factors that influence the rehabilitation of patients after an acute coronary event is important to reduce the risk of complications or the occurrence of new episodes. The rehabilitative path following the acute event is influenced by physiological and psychological factors; Among these, anxiety is implicated both in the onset of the disease and in the path of healing. The literature provides contrasting results compared to the role played by anxiety in heart disease. Further investigation is needed to understand whether it is a risk factor or a protective factor. The goal of this study is to determine how anxiety levels change in patients who have joined a Cardiac Rehabilitation program, in relation to their awareness of their health condition. The research aims to studying the change of physiological and psychological factors from the beginning of the rehabilitative program (pre-test) to its conclusion (post-test). The results of the statistical analysis show that patients at the post-test are more anxious and stressed compared to the pre-test but also more aware of the duration of the disease. These results suggest that the anxiety factor after the rehabilitation process can be considered generative in the light of an effective increase in awareness of the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

YOUNG adults , *COVID-19 pandemic , *AGE groups , *MENTAL health , *SOCIAL context , *PERFECTIONISM (Personality trait) - Abstract
This paper explores different factors that have been found to have a detrimental impact on the mental health of young adults today. The author demonstrates how environmental factors negatively impact internal processes, such as anxiety and low self-esteem. It looks at the various external factors that have led to a significant rise in perfectionism among the age group, such as a tougher social and economic environment, changes in parental rearing practices, social media and the way that young people come to define themselves narrowly by wealth and success. This is further exacerbated by the financial and psychological repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis on young people. The author explores her clinical experience as a psychotherapist working with young adults who never feel 'good enough'. The paper will suggest that parents, schools, universities, and employers need to understand that pushing for ever higher standards is problematic and proposes ways to help young adults to value themselves and be more resilient in tackling disappointments and challenges. - Abstract
This case study describes the conceptualization and the cognitive-behavioral treatment planning within the model of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for a 21-year-old patient affected by depression and anxiety, with a family story made by parents neglect. The treatment proposed the use of the ACT Matrix (Polk, Schoendorff, Webster, & Olaz 2016), as an instrument for the conceptualization and the therapy to help the patient in increasing the psychological flexibility, and live a life toward her values. At the same time we start an initial training of Mindfulness (Preziosi, 2016; Kabat-Zinn, Segal, Teasdale, & Williams, 2010) to increase the willingness of the patient in accepting the physical sensations and the disturbing thoughts. Since the patient felt feelings of worthlessness I widely used a cognitive-behavioral approach based on the Compassion Focused Therapy (Gilbert, 2012). At the end of the treatment the patient reported a significant reduction of the depression and anxiety symptoms, with important repercussions in terms of mood, of the physical well-being and of the family relationships. The results were kept three months apart as can be seen from the follow up, showing that the cognitive-behavioral therapy of third wave, in particular ACT, it is widely effective in the treatment of depressive and anxious symptoms. COVID-19 pandemic , *MENTAL health , *PSYCHOLOGICAL stress , *COMPUTER surveys , *HIGHER education - Abstract
Aiming to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Italian government declared a total lockdown imposing a forced home confinement which in turn caused significant changes in daily living, including economic, physical and mental health impacts. The goal of this study was to investigate the impact of restrictions on psychological well-being and changes in lifestyle and health habits. Participants were 419, with a mean age of 41,12 years. The 76,6% reported moderate or high levels of perceived stress. People with highest stress reported significantly lower mental health levels, such as the presence of depression, somatization, anxiety, insomnia and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Significant impact on mental health was given by the discomfort felt for living with other people or living alone. Participants living alone exhibited elevated depressive symptoms. Maladaptive unhealthy behaviour with negative changes in smoking and alcohol intake, eating pattern and physical activity were associated with higher depression, anxiety and posttraumatic symptoms in the course of the pandemic. As limitations: the sample included a large number of women and people with a high education level and the use of an online survey could have limited the participation of people unfamiliar with technological devices. People, during the lockdown, were strongly aff ected by stress and exhibit a presence of maladaptive unhealthy behavior associated with psychological problems which could be potential risk factors for possible long-term mental health eff ects. Results provide evidence that suggests the implementation of future health-promotion strategies in order to manage mental health outcomes due to lockdown measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of the study is to offer a first quantitative in-depth analysis of the ERH ethics of human relationships training to evaluate the possible mood changes in the subjects involved before and after training. We have used the Profile of Mood State Test with 51 subjects (Age: M=45,32; St. Dev. 8,7) before and after a training course for headmasters and teachers of schools. Results show a significant reduction of Tension-Anxiety, Depression-Dejection, Anger-Hostility factors, in line with the experimental hypothesis. The subjects involved in the training acquired tools for changing internally their states of anxiety, anger and hostility in a state of conscience which is the expression of the true self: it's not only a matter of cognitive comprehension or self-persuasion, but of the capacity of regulation of what the person internally experiences. In our hypothesis, this process takes place through the activation of the Global Neuronal Workspace (GNW). The activation of GNW allows the global availability of information coming from the sensory centers concurrently with information from the limbic system and makes them accessible to consciousness, thanks to the activation of diffuse long axon neurons, that are particularly present in the prefrontal and parietal areas. Thanks to this process the individual is able not only to perceive but also to elaborate and consciously integrate what he has internally experienced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
We studied a 63-years-old male that, after having been hospitalized for acute cholecystitis treated with surgery, in the post-operative period presented cardiorespiratory arrest with the need for orotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation. Then it was necessary to tracheostomize the patient because of weaning failure. Among the complications experimented by this patient there was an important anxiety-depressive syndrome with delirium episodes not responsive to standard pharmacological treatment. The patient was treated with live musical session. The following parameters were continu ously monitored before, during and after the musical treatment: diastolic and systolic systemic arterial pressure, heart rate and SpO2. In addition to these ones, the following values were detected using Monitor ExSpironTM 1Xi: minute ventilation, tidal volume, respiratory rate. Before and after the musical treatment, the patient was questioned about the following: BORG scale for the assessment of dyspnoea and VAS-A scale 0-100 mm scales (0 = no anxiety; 100 = maximum anxiety level) for evaluation of anxiety. It was also evaluated the RASS scale for sedation status assessment (recorded also during treatment). Before the music therapy, the patient presented a breathing pattern characterized by tachypnea and high minute ventilation, which improved during the 30 minutes of concert. Some minutes after the end of the music session we observed a trend to rapid and superficial breathing. The patient was questioned about the degree of perceived anxiety, evaluated through the VAS-A scale, and he reported a reduction in the level of anxiety during the 15 minutes following the music therapy session. The score of the RASS scale was brought on the value of 0 during and at the end of the musical treatment and it was possible to remove the previously applied containment measures as a consequence of the improved anxiety of the patient. - Abstract
The massive forced migration is a phenomenon that has raised socio-economic questions in the last years respect to the problems of the flowes containment and social and employment integration of the emigrants in the countries destination. The causes of the forced migration are originated from the poverty, war conflicts, tortures, persecutions different types of violence happening at the country of provenience, growing up between rich and poor and in the public debts which wipes the economic wealth of some nations. This aspects impact on migrants health leave indelible sequelae. In the last years, indeed, the scientific landscape has extended the focus of interest on psychological aspect of the migrant. The traumatic experiences suffered by the migrants can be observed in 3 moments: before, during and after the migration traveling. These experiences cause typical and distinctive psychological sequelae, same as depression, anxiety and somatization as the much more relevant symptomology. Therefore, the necessity to promote the psychological wellness of the migrants in the host country arises in the recent years. The aim of the review was to assessed the efficacy of the main psychological treatments applied to the migrants through a thoroughly and qualitative analyses of the literature. The preliminary collection of data was focused on studies that provided psychological interventions with a pre-treatment and post-treatment assessment at least of the depression, anxiety and somatization. The selection included studies of the three kinds: randomized-controlled design, almost experimental, observative. The review was conducted including 52 studies. The psychological interventions have been classified in 5 categories of treatment (cognitive-behavioural therapy, narrative exposure therapy, dynamic therapy, combined psychological treatments, psychological treatments combined with pharmacological treatments). There were calculated the significative and non-significative results for each category of treatment referring to each outcome: depression, anxiety and somatization. The qualitative results of the review showed that the cognitive-behavioural therapy had a significative effect on the depression at 61% of the cases, on anxiety at 50% of the cases, and had no effects on the somatization. The narrative exposure therapy had significative effects on the depression at 57% of the cases), it had effects on somatization at 50% of the cases and had no effects on anxiety. The dynamic therapy had significative effects on the depression at 50% of the cases, on the anxiety at 50% of the cases, and the same size effect on somatization at 50%. The combined psychological treatments had a significative effect over the depression at 46% of cases and had a significative effect over the anxiety and somatization, both at 60% of cases. The psychological treatments combined with pharmacological treatments had a significative effect over the depression at 61% of cases, over the anxiety at 36% of cases and over the somatization at 39% of cases. Therefore, the qualitative observation showed the probability to have a significative effect post-treatment over the anxiety lower than 50% comparing to somatization. Specifically, concerning the individual treatments, the effects of the cognitive-behavioural therapy on the anxiety seemed to be due to the fortuity. At the same time, it seemed to influence the somatization, indeed the effect is verified on the depression. Regarding the narrative exposure therapy, the probability to verify a significative effect on the depression is caused by the fortuity, same as for the dynamic therapy and for the combined psychological treatments. Also, it seemed to cause no effect on depression and anxiety. Lastly, concerning the psychological treatments combined with pharmacological treatments, there were find significative effects of efficacy on the depression, but no effects on anxiety and somatization. In 2006, when the Diagnostic Therapy Paths were published in Italy for care and assistance to patients with back pain, we performed a randomized controlled trial on group treatment versus individual treatment in chronic back patients. The aim of the present work was to reflect, observing the rehabilitation setting from what is certainly an original perspective, on the daily behavioral modes, beliefs (including the most obvious ones), and role of the therapist in the healing process. In addition, we aimed to verify whether - 13 years later - there has been a change in the convictions and behaviors of doctors and physiotherapists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article presents a reasoned review of the works produced on the "FoMO" phenomenon, starting from the date of the first scientific paper. FoMO stands for Fear of Missing Out. It is a specific form of social anxiety explained by the need to remain in contact with other people and the fear of being excluded from an event or social context. According to the definition of Andrew Przybylski, the first author to deal with FoMO, it is possible to define it as «a pervasive apprehension that others might be having rewarding experiences from which one is absent (...) is characterized by the desire to stay continually connected with what others are doing» (Przybylski et al., 2013, p. 1). In the US, many efforts were done on FoMO, while the same cannot be said for the rest of the world. Nevertheless, this is a condition that we can be observed everywhere. This review aims at defining the field for future insights on the subject. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of this research was to compare through two studies metacognition and relationships with basic emotions in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients. The participants consisted of 120 outpatients with an IBS or IBD diagnosis who completed a demographic questionnaire, the Metacognitions Questionnaire 30 (MCQ-30), the Affective Neuroscience Personality Scale (ANPS), and the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSR). A between-subjects non-parametric, correlational design was adopted. Results did not show significant differences between IBS and IBD patients for metacognitions and basic emotions. The results of correlational analysis showed strong and specific correlations between metacognitive factors and the other variables investigated for IBS and IBD patients. Negative beliefs were strongly correlated with fear, anger, and sadness. Correlations coefficients were higher in IBD than IBS patients. Other metacognitive factors were differently correlated for IBS and IBD patients. Cognitive confidence was highly correlated with anger in IBD but not IBS patients. Finally, cognitive self-consciousness did not show relations with basic emotions as evaluated by ANPS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The work proposes a reflection on the global treatment modality of generalized anxiety disorder (Gad), certainly one of the most frequent anxiety disorders in a general medicine clinic, focusing on the approach and management of the patient from a human point of view rather than on the specific field of drug treatment. The psychological aspect, often underestimated, plays a fundamental role in the integrated treatment of patients with this disorder and it's an essential element in the healing process. The usefulness of psychological support is too often poorly considered in general medicine clinics, while its scientific value has also been recognized by Evidence Based Medicine. In particular, cognitive-behavioral therapy (Cbt) represents the treatment of first choice for various psychopathological pictures with demonstrated efficacy, according to many scientific studies and to international guidelines for diagnosis and treatment in the psychological and psychiatric field, as the NICE guidelines (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excelence, 2011). Abstract: “Craving” is a motivational state that promotes an intense desire related to consummatory behaviors. Despite growing interest in the concept of food craving, there is a lack of available instruments to assess it in Brazilian Portuguese. The objectives were to translate and adapt the Trait and the State Food Craving Questionnaire (FCQ-T and FCQ-S) to Brazilian Portuguese and to evaluate the psychometric properties of these versions. The FCQ-T and FCQ-S were translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese and administered to students at the Federal University of São Paulo. Both questionnaires in their original models were examined considering different estimators (frequentist and bayesian). The goodness of fit underlying the items from both scales was assessed through the following fit indices: χ2, WRMR residual, comparative fit index, Tucker-Lewis index and RMSEA. Data from 314 participants were included in the analyses. Poor fit indices were obtained for both of the original questionnaires regardless of the estimator used and original structural model. Thus, three eating disorder experts reviewed the content of the instruments and selected the items which were considered to assess the core aspects of the craving construct. The new and reduced models (questionnaires) generated good fit indices. Our abbreviated versions of FCQ-S and FCQ-T considerably diverge from the conceptual framework of the original questionnaires. Based on the results of this study, we propose a possible alternative, i.e., to assess craving for food as a unidimensional construct.
