- Abstract
The aim of the article was to introduce the translation of chosen word combinations and collocations based on the research material of the Slovak National Corpus. The English-Slovak parallel corpus was used to introduce the translation from the English into the Slovak language. The topic discussed within the research was family. Five adjective-noun word combinations/collocations were chosen based on the MI value in the corpus. The higher this value was, the most probable it was that a particular word combination was a collocation at the same time. However, the detailed analysis of chosen word combinations/collocations was done to say for sure what type of word combinations the analysed combinations were: free word combinations, collocations or idioms. The analysis of chosen word combinations was based on the linguistic analysis by Vajickova - Luţa 2019. The results of the analysis showed that not all word combinations with a high MI value in the corpus are collocations at the same time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The paper deals with the issue of machine translation with a focus on the error rate. It studies the category of predicativness in machine translation outputs in the context of typological similarities and differences of the examined languages (English and Slovak). It also explains the issue of journalistic style in two different language contexts. Using the error analysis and the error framework designed for Slovak, we analyzed and discussed the errors in journalistic texts translated by MT from English into Slovak in the category of predicativness. We found out that a high number of errors is related to the correlation between congruency in gender and predicativness in tense, then between congruency in number and congruency in person, finally in Other errors (incorrect part-of-speech verb or noun, unrealized predicativness, or missing verb). - Abstract
Th e article presents some interim results of a research project aimed at identifying the foreign-language learning strategies used by blind students when learning English. In current curricular documents learning strategies are defi ned as means and goals of teaching. Th ey are teachable, can be used according to the requirements of the individual student, and their use leads to pupil autonomy. Research on them so far, however, has focused only on the intact population. Th e research project was realised as a multiple case study (n=8). Th e participants in the survey were students and graduates of universities with congenital or acquired blindness. Th e data was gathered using the quantitative method of questionnaire (Strategy Inventory for Language Learning, Oxford, 1990) and the qualitative method of interview. Th e interviews were transcribed word for word and coded using MAXQDA soft ware. Th e classifi cation of strategies employed was that of R. Oxford (1990), which divides strategies for foreign-language learning into six groups (memory, cognitive, compensatory, metacognitive, social and aff ective). Th e use of memory strategies for foreign-language learning that is presented in the article is particularly important for blind people, because they generally have to rely more on memory than seeing people. We discovered that memory strategies for foreign-language learning are used by blind students sometimes, half and half (Ø=3.13 on a scale of 1-5) (for comparison Ø=2.26 in the intact population, Vlčková, 2007). Some strategies cannot be used by the blind at all, and some are modifi ed by them. Blind students do not use the strategy of semantic maps and modify it into a strategy of grouping and clustering. Strategies that they tend not to use include the strategy of using percepts and physical moulding and the strategy of mechanical technique. With regard to the strategy of using visualisations we identifi ed diff erences between respondents blind since birth and respondents who had become blind later. Th ose who had lost their sight later in life, i.e. had used their sight for most of their life, relied a considerable amount on their visual memories. In acquiring and fi xing new information they most oft en substituted touch percepts for the absent visual input. Students blind from birth substituted sound percept for visual percepts, or an idea of Braille script or a combination of sound and the idea of the touch percept; bringing to mind the context in which the information that they needed to remember had been presented. It needs to be taken into account that learning strategies are not really observable and so the researcher has to depend on the respondent's account, which may be consciously or unconsciously distorted. Th e results of the research on the remaining fi ve groups of strategies according to the Oxford classifi cation are currently being processed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This thesis deals with CLIL method and usage of mobile applications in Biology classes. CLIL stands for "Content and Language Integrated Learning". It is a teaching method that combines foreign language and other subject; in this case it is English and Biology. Not only CLIL helps with improvement of communication skills but also pupils accomplish higher level both in speaking and listening. The main goal of this thesis is to find out if this method is convenient for pupils of primary school. I designed 5 lesson plans that combine CLIL and usage of mobile phone. In addition, I created a worksheet for every class (A4 size, 2 pages). The lessons are focused on following topics: universe, food relations, cell biology, fungi biology and invertebrates. All the lessons are designed for the 6th grade of primary school. Each worksheet is for one lesson and uses different mobile application. Every worksheet comes with different mobile application. The biggest advantage of cell phone is its availability, because almost everyone has got one. Research has shown that it leads to higher variability within the class. Also, it leads to higher motivation, so pupils are more active. The main objective of this work is to ascertain how usage of cell phone impacts the learning process. The research was realized in a...

This bachelor thesis focuses on the mapping of distance teaching of the English language in high schools with an emphasis on the role of online technologies in this teaching. I conducted six semi-structured in-depth interviews with selected English language teachers. I chose these based on a questionnaire survey of first-year students in university who were graduating from English and had the opportunity to provide me with a contact on their former English teacher. I also conducted interviews with students who were students of these teachers at the time of the research to triangulate the data. During the interviews, I was interested in what online tools the teachers used in their distance teaching, how they became familiar with them, and how they received information about these tools. Furthermore, I explained the scope and methods in synchronous and asynchronous teaching and how each method and goal changed due to distance learning. I also focused on the comparison of the effectiveness of distance teaching versus face-to-face teaching, as well as what are the positives and negatives of distance teaching and the barriers to effective distance teaching. Lastly, I found out how the respondents' experience will affect the future of English language teaching. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis describes online tools suitable for distance teaching of the English language.

The main goal of this diploma thesis is to point out the use of various organizational forms of teaching in English language classes at lower secondary schools. The diploma thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of four chapters. The first chapter presents a general list of organizational forms, the second chapter expands this list. In the third chapter, I present an alternative division of organizational forms of teaching according to Červenková and Maňák. According to these two authors, I also point out the confusion of two terms, namely organizational forms of teaching with teaching methods and vice versa. In the fourth chapter, I mention the current topic of informational technology in education and the organizational forms associated with this teaching. At the end of the theoretical part, I present a preliminary research on the issue of organizational forms and cite some previously conducted researches. This chapter is continuously followed by a practical part, which consists primarily of quantitative research conducted through a questionnaire. First, the starting points of the research are formulated and then the results of the research and the final evaluation of information on the representation of organizational forms in teaching and the preference for their use by individual teachers are presented. Based on the data obtained through research from the practical part of the work, this thesis compares the use of organizational forms in teaching in the regular and in the online teaching regime.

- Abstract
It is widely believed that the content knowledge, or scholarship in content disciplines, plays the central role in the knowledge base of teaching (Shulman, “Those Who Understand” 6). However, investigations of its acquisition remain rare not only in the context of the Czech Republic, but worldwide (Píšová and Brebera 75). The paper focuses on exploring what role the pre-service education plays in the development of (subject matter) content knowledge of English for Education students, i.e. whether and how the (subject matter) content knowledge of the bachelor programme students of English for Education, namely their grammatical knowledge in English, is developed and internalized in formal education. Based on the analysis of tests and examination scores of English for Education students, the study hypothesizes that there is correlation between the selected aspects of communicative competence in the course of the studies, i.e. there is a (positive) change. However, drawing on correlations of exam scores in students’ grammatical knowledge, namely results of morphology exam assessments and a grammatical part of the language exam, it does not seem that by addressing the processes of grammar learning and acquisition in the formal instruction, student teachers improve their conscious use of grammar., Znalost obsahu, či znalost oborových disciplín, představuje hlavní roli ve znalostní bázi učitelství (Shulman, "Those Who Understand" 6).

The focus of this bachelor thesis is the study of the motivation of two target groups: high school and university students in learning both English and French languages. The research was stimulated by the great influence of motivation on Second Language Acquisition (SLA), and it aimed to give an insight into the motivations and different variables that influence the motivation of the students. The first chapter of the thesis introduces the topic of motivation in SLA, serving as the basis for the research. Accordingly, this work focused specifically on the following aspects of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, instrumental motivation, language anxiety and amotivation, and several of the influences on the motivation of the students: teachers, parents, and friends. It is followed by the second chapter, which outlines the methodology: piloting a questionnaire, final questionnaire design, and the data collection. The third chapter contains the data analysis, which comprises the responses of the participants. The fourth chapter addresses both contrasts and similarities between the two studied groups. Several of the main findings are - Within the students, intrinsic and extrinsic motives coexist, nevertheless, for university students, the career motive was more noticeable. Concerning high school students, intrinsic motivation was the most prevalent. There were also some differences between the students of the target languages of this thesis, French students were often motivated by the culture of the language, and English students mostly perceived the practical usefulness of English as their main motive. The influence of teachers was perceived as more positive within university students than the high school students. Both groups of students expressed quite low perceptions of the active parental influence on their language learning. Many students displayed the occasional state of amotivation or signs of language anxiety. These aspects were higher within the university students, French majors in particular. This thesis could serve as a base for follow up research or as a tool for educators in researching the motives of their students in order to increase their motivation.

- Abstract
This bachelor thesis is concerned with supporting English language learners with formative assessment in primary schools. In the theoretical part, the terms evaluation and assessment are clarified and differentiated. Subsequently, summative evaluation and formative assessment is explained and also the term feedback as a base of formative assessment is stated. Then, the role of assessment in second language acquisition is defined. Thirdly, functions and strategies of formative assessment are mentioned and finally, attitudes, motivational factors and influence of assessment on young learners are characterized. The practical part probes whether teachers and learners in a primary school assess formatively or not. If yes, how they undertake the assessment and how learners perceive formative assessment during English language lessons. For the purpose of the research, fully structured interviews with two English language teachers were conducted and an observation sheet was designed in order to observe 10 English language lessons and eventually be able to answer 3 research questions., Bakalářská práce se zabývá podporou žáků anglického jazyka na prvním stupni základní školy pomocí formativního hodnocení.
