1. Three-body Calculation of Total Cross Sections of the p d → H e η Reaction From Chiral Dynamics.

Abstract

In this work we have calculated the total cross section of p d → H e η reaction using recent developments on few body systems involving mesons. We report on an approach to Faddeev equations using chiral dynamics, with the two-body and three-body forces. Within this approach, systems of mesons and baryons are studied. An effective field theory with hadrons and photons is constructed, where the hadronic parameters are determined by fitting available data. The total cross section data for different final momentum q in the center of mass or excess energy is found in agreement with COSY-ANKE and the WASA-at-COSY experiments. at 59.8 MeV access energy the cross section is obtained to be 431 nb in comparison with ANKE experiment σ(59.4 ±0.8 MeV) = (388.1 ±7.1±58.0) nb. To obtain more accurate results, the calculations can be extended to higher order as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

2. From Kaon Pairs to η(′)-Mesons.

Abstract

The results of first measurements on the K+K- meson pair production in proton-proton collisions using the COSY-11 facility are presented and discussed. At a beam momentum of pbeam = 3.356 GeV/c a total cross section for the charged kaon pair production below the [uppercase_phi_synonym] meson threshold was successfully extracted. In parallel to these measurements, total and differential cross section information on the η′ meson production in proton-proton collisions have been gained which extend the previously obtained data up to excess energies of Q = 47 MeV. Additionally, the results of first measurements at COSY-11 on the production of η3He pairs at intermediate excess energies of Q = 5 to 40 MeV are presented and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We present results for the \Delta S=2 matrix elements which are required to study neutral kaon mixing in the standard model (SM) and beyond (BSM). We also provide leading chiral order results for the matrix elements of the electroweak penguin operators which give the dominant \Delta I=3/2 contribution to direct CP violation in K->\pi\pi decays. Our calculations were performed with Neuberger fermions on two sets of quenched Wilson gauge configurations at inverse lattice spacings of approximately 2.2 GeV and 1.5 GeV. All renormalizations were implemented non-perturbatively in the RI/MOM scheme, where we accounted for sub-leading operator product expansion corrections and discretization errors. We find ratios of non-SM to SM matrix elements which are roughly twice as large as in the only other dedicated lattice study of these amplitudes. On the other hand, our results for the electroweak penguin matrix elements are in good agreement with two recent domain-wall fermion calculations. As a by-product of our study, we determine the strange quark mass. Our main results are summarized and discussed in Sec. VII. Abstract

We have searched with the KLOE detector for the P and CP violating decay eta --> pi(+)pi(-) in a sample of 1.55 x 10(7) eta's from the decay phi --> etagamma of phi-mesons produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at DAPhiNE. No signal is found. We obtain the upper limit BR(eta --> pi(+)pi(-)) < 1.3 x 10(-5) at 90% confidence level. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

6. What is interesting in eta and eta′ Meson Decays?

Abstract

An introduction to the physics of eta and eta' meson decays is given. A historical account of the discovery of the mesons is presented. It is followed by an overview and classification of the common decay modes and the relevance of the mesons for modern hadron and particle physics. In more detail the hadronic decay modes are discussed and in particular some interesting features of the eta-> 3pi0 decay are presented. The last section briefly reviews and compares reactions used to produce the eta and eta' mesons for the studies of their decays.
