Abstract: Regioselective control by a catalyst switch in palladium-catalyzed benzylallylation of arylethylidene malononitriles (α-benzyl-β-allylation versus α-allyl-β-benzylation) is described. The three-component reaction of 2-(bromomethyl)naphthalenes, arylethylidene malononitriles, and allyltributylstannane proceeds smoothly with palladium nanoparticles as a catalyst to provide α-benzyl-β-allylation products in good yields. The regioselectivity of the benzylallylation reaction is completely overturned with Pd(PPh3)4 as the catalyst instead of palladium nanoparticles to obtain α-allyl-β-benzylation products in moderate to good yields. Abstract: Chemoselective allylation of carbonyl functionality of chalcones with allyltributylstannane was accomplished in the presence of CuI as catalyst. This reaction works well in DMF at 70°C with exclusive formation of 1,2-addition product. Interesting feature of this reaction is that no conjugate addition product was produced. A catalytic amount (2 mol %) of phosphotungstic acid (PTA) is sufficient to synthesize homoallylic alcohol in excellent yields from aldehyde with allyltributylstannane upon grinding under solvent-free reaction conditions. Abstract: Regioselective control in the reaction of diarylmethyl chlorides 5a with allyltributyltin is described. The reaction pathway (allylative dearomatization vs cross-coupling) can be easily controlled using different catalysts. When reactions are performed in the presence of Pd2(dba)3 and PPh3, allylative dearomatization proceeds to provide satisfactory yield of the desired products. However, when Cy3P·HBF4 is employed as a catalyst instead of palladium, a Stille-type cross-coupling reaction takes place exclusively to give excellent yields of the corresponding products. Abstract: The stereospecific epoxide-opening reactions of 1,1-dibromo-3,4-epoxy-1-alkenes with allyltributylstannane and with ketene silyl acetals in the presence of a Lewis acid are described. Both the reactions occurred regioselectively at the allylic position via an SN2 process giving rise to a single product, respectively. Treatment of the products by the latter reaction with p-TsOH afforded various 3,4-anti- and 3,4-syn-disubstituted γ-lactones in a highly stereoselective manner and high yields. A novel chiral indium(III) camphorsulfonate complex prepared from indium trichloride, allyltributylstannane and (1S)-(+)-10-camphorsulfonic acid has been developed as a water-tolerant Lewis acid to afford high yields (up to 99%) in one-pot three-component Mannich-type reactions in a true water environment.
