This article discusses the application of a critical paradigm approach, including activism, in studies of preservation and conservation in libraries, information institutions, and local communities. Based on a literature review, it explores a variety of writing and research on the preservation and conservation of objects, focusing on social and humanities approaches and critical analysis. Different approaches in preservation and conservation in libraries and other information institutions beyond traditional practices will be discussed and activism in the context of preservation and conservation will be examined. We hope that this article will encourage research on preservation and conservation that involves critical explanations and in-depth investigations, that it will provide space for critical thinking which moves towards a constructivist paradigm and that it will generate knowledge about activism within a conservation framework. This paper is not intended to challenge researchers or scholars who have followed a more positivistic approach in their studies of preservation and conservation, but rather as a reflection to provide space to engage in critical thinking and alternative approaches. Katharina Rogenhofer und Lena Schilling sind Aktivistinnen einer weltweiten Klimabewegung, die ökologische mit gesellschaftspolitischen Forderungen verknüpft. Fridays for Future bzw. School Strike for Climate spielten für beide eine zentrale Rolle in ihrer aktivistischen Laufbahn. Themen im Interview waren der Umgang mit Radikalitätsbegriffen, die Räume und Aktionsformen ihrer Bewegungen und die Relevanz des Zeitlichen.

Female participation in the Red Power movement, the Indigenous resistance in the USA, has long been ignored in research. At best, the women of Red Power emerged on the non-violent periphery of the militant movement of the 1960s and 1970s. This paper sheds light on the hitherto suppressed radical and militant activities of female Red Power activists by analysing analogue and borndigital sources using the analytical categories of race, gender and class. This shows that the activists explicitly included women’s concerns in the Red Power discourse, such as the fight against sterilisation forced by the US government, which particularly affected them as members of the poorest minority in the country and as Women of Colour. Furthermore, this essay, which contributes to the history of resistance movements, relates their political struggle in the Indigenous collective to their individual engagement with Western US feminist movements in the period.

Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz verkündet im Namen der Bundesregierung, ein Verbotsverfahren gegen die AfD anzustrengen. Diesen Eindruck erweckt ein Video, das das Zentrum für Politische Schönheit (ZPS) am 27. November veröffentlichte, später entfernte und mit einem Urheberhinweis zu Beginn des Videos neu hochlud. Am 15. Dezember 2023 erklärte das ZPS, dass YouTube das Deepfake-Video in seiner ursprünglichen Form wieder freigeschaltet hat. Im konkreten Fall dürfte sich ein Verbreitungsverbot des Videos dennoch als verhältnismäßiger Eingriff in die Kunstfreiheit des ZPS erweisen.

This paper explores embodiment as a locus for theological practices of addressing socio-economic inequality, focusing particularly on the intersections of disability and poverty. Engaging the work of Sharon Betcher and Mayra Rivera, the paper explores the relationship between spirit and flesh, and highlights the need for theologies to engage with and learn from unruly, excluded bodies. The paper constructs three poetic accounts from a collaborative project with UK activists to highlight embodied practices of navigating and resisting inequality, and the creative, sensory knowledges necessary for developing critiques of oppressive systems. In den 1980er- und 1990er-Jahren vernetzten sich Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen der Natur- und Technikwissenschaften in autonomen Arbeitskreisen, um sich gegenseitig zu unterstützen und um ihre Fächer aus einer feministischen Perspektive kritisch zu reflektieren und zu verändern. Im Kontext der Frauenbewegung entwickelten sie kollektive Arbeitsformen. Die Bedingungen und Möglichkeiten der Gender Studies haben sich inzwischen verändert und viele feministische Naturwissenschafts- und Technikforscher*innen arbeiten heute nicht mehr in derartigen Arbeitskreisen, engagieren sich aber weiterhin für diesen Bereich. Anhand von ausgewählten frühen und jüngeren Arbeitskreisen erinnert dieser Beitrag an die Arbeitskreise, skizziert deren Arbeitsformen und argumentiert, dass sich die aktuellen feministischen Naturwissenschafts- und Technikforscher*innen stärker innerhalb der Hochschulstrukturen verorten und einen weniger revolutionären, zunehmend akademischen Subjektstatus annehmen, ohne die Wissenschaftstransformation aufzugeben.

Im Kontext der Pläne zum Prostituiertenschutzgesetz (ProstSchG) organisierten sich Sexarbeitende in Deutschland ab 2013 kollektiv, um kontrollierende und repressive Maßnahmen abzuwehren. Der Beitrag zeichnet die Entwicklung dieser politischen Selbstorganisierung bis zur Verabschiedung des ProstSchG in 2016 nach. Basierend auf einer zweijährigen enthnografischen Forschung mit politisch aktiven Sexarbeitenden stelle ich dar, wie sich Sexarbeitende im Feld der Prostitutionspolitik positionierten, in welchem Verhältnis andere politische Akteur_innen zu ihnen standen und welche Ambivalenzen und Konfliktlinien sich bildeten. Sexarbeitende scheiterten schließlich in ihrem Ziel, das ProstSchG zu verhindern. Mit dessen Verabschiedung trat zwar eine Ernüchterung, jedoch auch eine Diversifizierung der Selbstorganisierung ein. Sexarbeitende waren daher erfolgreich darin, eine anhaltende Bewegung aufzubauen, die seither etablierte Akteurin in der sich weiter transformierenden deutschen Prostitutionspolitik ist.

Das Buch „Assuming the Ecosexual Position“ erzählt die Geschichte von Annie Sprinkle und Beth Stephens als liebende und gemeinsam arbeitende Kollaborateur*innen und bietet einen lustvollen und performativen (Über-)Blick in das gemeinsame (Performance-)Werk. Seit 2005 entwickeln die Künstler*innen öffentliche Hochzeit-Performances, und 2008 heirateten sie in Form der Green-Wedding-Performance das erste Mal ihre mehr-als-menschliche Geliebte: die Erde. Sprinkle und Stephens setzten mit ihren Hochzeiten ein politisches Zeichen gegen Diskriminierung, da in den 2000er Jahren die Ehe für alle in den USA noch nicht bundesweit rechtskräftig war. Mit der Begründung des performativen „Love Art Lab“ – das im Zentrum des Buches steht – feier(te)n die Künstler*innen weitere schillernde Hochzeitsperformances u.a. mit dem Mond, dem Himmel oder den Appalachen, zusammen mit vielen Kollaborateur*innen. Mit ihrem Werk und diesem Buch schreiben die Künstler*innen ein weiteres Stück Performance-Geschichte.

Rechtsstaatlichkeit und gender equality sind in der Europäischen Union (EU) in Artikel 2 des Vertrages von Lissabon (EUV) als Grundwerte der Union verankert. Jüngst wurde die Auszahlung von EU-Mitteln in der Richtlinie 2020/2092 an die Einhaltung der Rechtsstaatlichkeit gekoppelt. Im Rahmen der umstrittenen Justizreform in Polen leitete die Europäische Kommission zudem erstmalig ein Rechtsstaatlichkeitsverfahren nach Artikel 7 EUV ein, um die Werte der EU zu schützen. Doch das darin gewährte Gleichstellungsgebot stößt an seine Grenzen, wo Kompetenzen zwischen den Mitgliedstaaten und der Union aufgeteilt sind und der Zugang zur Politikgestaltung betroffen ist. Letzterer ist für die stetige Neudefinition von Geschlecht von Bedeutung. Dies wird am Beispiel des Gender-Quality-Aktivismus und der aktuellen Justizreform in Polen deutlich. Die in diesem Zusammenhang erfolgten Entscheidungen des Gerichtshofes der EU können nur punktuell eingreifen, sind jedoch kein Garant für eine nachhaltige politische und gesellschaftliche Berücksichtigung von gender equality.

Der Aktivismus der LGBTIQ-Bewegung in der bosnisch-herzegowinischen Gesellschaft gewann nach den jugoslawischen Nachfolgekriegen an Bedeutung und wurde zunehmend sichtbar. Doch trotz der Sichtbarkeit stellen sich die Fragen: Wird der LGBTIQ-Aktivismus in einer konservativen Gesellschaft anerkannt und akzeptiert? Welche politischen, sozialen und religiösen Reaktionen gibt es darauf? In einer Gesellschaft, in der ein hohes Maß an Ethno-Nationalismus und religiösem Fundamentalismus vorhanden ist, lohnt es sich auch, mögliche Widerstände dagegen zu analysieren. Dieser Beitrag zeigt die Zusammenhänge zwischen religiösem Fundamentalismus und der Haltung gegenüber der LGBTIQ-Bewegung in Bosnien und Herzegowina, stellt die Reaktionen der Religionsgemeinschaften auf die erste LGBTIQ-Parade im Jahr 2019 dar und bringt Beispiele für den Widerstand gegen Ethno-Nationalismus und religiösen Fundamentalismus.

This paper is a response to Andrew Samuels's 'The transcendent function in politics: NO!' (2010). In that paper he makes a number of criticisms to support his argument that the transcendent function is not appropriate for political and social development. Whilst a number of his criticisms are valid, they are misdirected because they are against one-sidedness or identification with a single position, which are not features of the transcendent function but problems that it overcomes. To make the counter argument, this paper draws on oft-overlooked aspects of Jung's book Psychological Types, empirical research, contemporary leadership theory, and practical examples to show that the transcendent function's omission from political debate can maintain and exacerbate social inequity and the political divisions that might otherwise be bridged. The transcendent function is highly relevant to politics and can help achieve deeper and longer-lasting change than a one-sided approach. It is one of the core aspects of analytical psychology that has the potential to make innovative and transformational contributions to political discourse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Von der historischen Frauenbewegung bis zur gegenwärtigen queer-feministischen Bewegung haben Feministinnen ihre Anliegen in selbstpublizierten, oft handgemachten Zeitschriften, Pamphleten und Flyern kundgetan. Feministische Zines (selbst-produzierte und -vertriebene Magazine) zeigen eindringlich, dass sich viele Mädchen*, junge Frauen*, LGBTQI und marginalisierte Menschen in der Gesellschaft und in den Massenmedien nicht gehört oder miss-repräsentiert fühlen. Sie produzieren daher ihre eigenen, alternativen Medien, in denen sie selbstdefinierte und ermächtigende Bilder, Inhalte und Netzwerke entwerfen und gesellschaftliche Kritik üben. Insbesondere in der „Riot Grrrl Bewegung“ ist eine Vielzahl an Zines entstanden. Ein Teil davon fand Eingang in die „Grrrl Zine Sammlung“ an der Universität Salzburg. In diesem Beitrag lege ich dar, was sogenannte „Grrrl Zines“ sind, warum wir sie sammeln sollten und welche Archive und Bibliotheken dies bereits tun. Obwohl es verschiedene Herausforderungen dabei gibt, argumentiere ich, dass Zines als wichtige, wenn auch unkonventionelle, chaotische und schwierig zu archivierende Artefakte und als ‚living archives‘ von Archiven und Bibliotheken gesammelt werden sollten.

From the historic women’s movement until the current queer-feminist movement feminists have published their issues and concerns in self-published, of - ten hand-made magazines, pamphlets, and flyers. Feminist zines (self-published and -distributed magazines) show vividly that many girls, young women, LGBTQI, and marginalized people do not feel heard or misrepresented by society and mainstream media. Therefore, they produce their own, alternative media in which they create self- defined and empowering images, content, and networks and express social critique. Especially in the “riot grrrl movement” a wide variety of zines arose. Part of this zine production found its way into the “Grrrl Zine Collection” at the University of Salzburg. In this article, I show what so-called “Grrrl Zines” are, why we should collect them and which archives and libraries do so already. Although they face some challenges, I argue that archives and libraries should collect zines as important, even though unconventional, chaotic, and difficult to archive, artifacts and as “living archives”. Unter Einbeziehung zahlreicher unterschiedlicher und teils unveröffentlichter Quellen aus Privatarchiven rekonstruiert Tiffany N. Florvil die Geschichte der modernen Schwarzen deutschen Bewegung. In sechs ansatzweise chronologisch aufgebauten Kapiteln arbeitet Florvil sich von den 1980er Jahren bis in die Gegenwart vor bzw. von Audre Lordes Berliner Jahren und May Ayims literarischem Aktivismus über die Entstehung zentraler Schwarzer deutscher Organisationen wie der Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland (ISD) und Afrodeutsche Frauen/Schwarze Frauen in Deutschland e.V. (ADEFRA) bis hin zu Black Lives Matter. Besonders viel Raum wird Schwarzen deutschen „Aktivistinnen-Intellektuellen“ (activist-intellectuals) bzw. „Alltagsintellektuellen“ (quotidian intellectuals) und ihrem intersektionalen wie transnationalen Feminismus eingeräumt.
