It also provides an overview of the main degrees and postgraduate training programs for specialization in perioperative management in major Western countries.This scoping review followed the Arksey–O'Malley framework and Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA‐ScR) was used to ensure rigorous and transparent reporting.Among the 3663 records analyzed, 20 were included in this review. The role of the APN spans across the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, encompassing follow‐up care as leaders, mentors, and contributors to research. APNs play a pivotal role by offering direct and indirect patient care at each stage of the surgical journey. Acting as liaisons between the healthcare team and patients, APNs enhance healthcare delivery through personalized, coordinated care, while also fostering ongoing education and research in the field.APNs enhance surgical care by providing in‐depth clinical assessments, education, and support throughout the treatment process. However, the lack of standardized regulatory frameworks in some countries limits the autonomy of APNs within the healthcare system, compromising their ability to address unmet health needs and engage in international collaboration.The findings underscore the need for standardized educational pathways, roles, responsibilities, and autonomy for APNs, facilitating better international collaboration and contributing to scientific research. With the development of genetics and advances in genetic testing technology, the demand for cancer genetic counseling has increased dramatically. Advanced practice nurses play a key role in personalized health care delivery. The oncology genetic nurse-led genetic counseling services in foreign countries are becoming more and more mature, but in China, the work of oncology genetic counseling started late, and the combination of genetics/genomics with nursing is still in its infancy. There is still a lack of relevant research on oncology genetic nurses. This article introduced the qualification certification, core competence and clinical practice content of foreign oncology genetic nurses, and summarized the clinical practice effect of oncology genetic nurses and the enlightenment to China’s advanced nursing practice, which provided references for the construction of oncology genetic nurses training programs and clinical service models suitable for China’s national conditions, so as to meet the needs of the development of advanced nursing practice and the growing demand for precision oncology and high-quality genetic medical care. Background/scope: The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nutrition is a professional capable of providing specialist clinical assistance and leadership‐related clinical nutrition. To date, although their role has already been identified, there is still uncertainty about how this figure can actually fit into the various global health systems. The purpose of this review is to clarify and define the role of this professional aimed at analysing clinical experiences and data from nutrition scientific societies. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted using the Prisma Statement in the Cochrane Library databases and subsequently in PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science. In addition, a manual search of studies published in Google Scholar was conducted for the analysis of 'grey literature'. Out of 3,320 identified records, 20 studies were included in the present review. The clinical experiences identified have shown that this figure is able to provide specialist assistance by offering high levels of safety, efficacy and quality of the care provided. Conclusions/ implications for nursing: The implementation of nurse nutrition specialist, to date, is still limited at the global level, and training programmes coordinated between scientific societies and nursing universities could be the basis for the development of this specialization in countries where today this figure is not yet present. This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of 11 adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing evaluation for kidney transplant (KT) and examine the role played by the nurse in the process. Employing a descriptive phenomenology approach, semi‐structured interviews were conducted between October 2022 and July 2023. Thematic analysis, facilitated by Atlas. ti software, revealed a systemic management diagram with "The candidate for kidney transplant and their reality" at the center, followed by "The process of chronic kidney disease and kidney transplantation," and concluding with the most distal category centered on "The kidney transplant access nurse." This organizational framework provided insights into the layers of relationships between emerging themes. The findings underscored the complexity and multidimensionality of the CKD and KT process, emphasizing the nurse's pivotal role as a guide and protector throughout the evaluation process for accessing kidney transplantation. The convergence of results with existing literature highlighted the need to address challenges such as lack of time, resources, and emotional support to enhance the quality of care. Recognizing the nurse's crucial importance in this process, the study emphasizes the significance of addressing these challenges to improve patient care and calls for attention to the nurse's role in guiding individuals through the intricate journey of CKD and kidney transplantation. To explore the perceptions of physicians, registered nurses (RN) and allied health professionals (AHP) towards the role of ward‐based advanced practice nurse (APN). 2. To examine healthcare professionals' perception of APN role expansion in inpatient care.Cross‐sectional study.A 43‐item survey comprising of five domains was conducted on healthcare professionals' perceptions towards ward‐based APNs in five medical wards of a tertiary hospital from November 2022 to February 2023. The participants were recruited using convenience sampling via email and cross‐platform messaging service.A total of 181 completed respondents including 26 physicians, 102 nurses and 45 AHPs. Statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Version 28.0. Significant differences were noted in perceptions based on prior experience with APNs and between different healthcare professions. In collaboration with medical practitioners, advanced practice nurses may take a selected group of patients and manage their ongoing healthcare independently. Their experiences in running nurse‐led clinics directly impact patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.Scoping review of the peer‐reviewed literature.Systematic search through CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO and Web of Science databases from January 2010 to September 2023.This scoping review is guided by the updated methodological guidance for the conduct of scoping review from Joanna Briggs Institute.Of 2747 retrieved articles, 15 were included in this review. Synthesis of the findings revealed that nurses believed implementing nurse‐led clinics was beneficial to themselves, patients, and healthcare systems. However, they faced challenges in running nurse‐led clinics, including insufficient support, teamwork obstacles and lack of role recognition.Nurses need to be proactive in promoting their clinics and overcoming challenges. Healthcare organizations are responsible for creating a positive culture to support nurse‐led services. Future research should focus on ways to increase global awareness of nurse‐led clinics. Aim: The study goal was to inform the creation of a blueprint for an advanced practice nurse (APN) in public health. Background: No internationally accepted standard for an APN in public health exists. Activities of public health nurses (PHN) traditionally have centered on health promotion and disease prevention, but many have added other population‐based activities such as chronic and acute disease treatment. Introduction: An APN in public health is needed to address the global challenges threatening the physical, social, and mental health of populations worldwide. Methods: This qualitative study was comprised of six focus groups, each containing a different group of stakeholders (n = 40). Study results followed the requirements of the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ). Findings: Two major themes emerged: the APN role in public health and core expectations. From the APN role theme, four subthemes emerged on APN domains of public health practice and functions. From the core expectations theme, nine subthemes emerged on the APN's qualifications and behaviors. Discussion: Agreement among stakeholders was found in the nine core expectations; however, among the four different visions of an APN in public health, two fit a population‐based model rather than the traditional PHN model. Conclusions: A single APN role in public health is insufficient to address the breadth and complexity of today's global challenges as detailed by the sustainable development goals. Due to the interaction between health and the biopsychosocial environments, we need APNs with different areas of expertise. Implication for nursing policy: Nurses working at universities, in public health services, and as healthcare policymakers are needed to create a multistage strategy that gradually introduces several different types of APNs in public health. Aim: This paper discusses the development and progression of the advanced practice nurse practitioner role in Africa. Background: Providing adequate primary health care is problematic in Africa. The World Health Organization and International Council of Nurses proposed that nurses, specifically advanced practice nurse practitioners with the requisite skills in disease prevention, diagnosis and management, can be key to solving the primary care issue. Sources of evidence: This paper utilized publications from PUBMED, CINAHL, policy papers, websites, workgroups, conferences, and the experiences and knowledge of authors involved in leading and moving forward key events and projects. Discussion: Four African countries have formally adopted the advanced practice nurse practitioner role, with significant interest from countries throughout Africa, and ever‐increasing requests for assistance regarding initiation, development and integration of advanced practice roles. Initiatives to advance the roles have been supported by the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Network and Global Academy of Research and Enterprise. Next steps and projects for future role development are discussed. Conclusions: There is a progression towards the adoption of the advanced practice nurse practitioner role in Africa, and further mechanisms are suggested to allow full uptake and utilization. Implications for nursing practice: Prioritization and investment in initiatives implementing nurse practitioner/advanced practice nurse roles in Africa allows nurses to pursue further education, advanced role and leadership opportunities consistent with Nursing Now goals. Implications for health policy: Implementation of nurse practitioner/advanced practice nurse roles increases the primary care workforce, consistent with recommendations and priorities in the World Health Organization Global Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery 2021–2025 helping countries ensure that nurses optimally contribute to achieving universal health coverage and other population health goals. Aim: To describe activities and professional characteristics of nurses in expanded roles in acute care in Germany and achieve a greater understanding of the current situation of advanced practice nursing. Background: Advanced practice nursing plays an important role in meeting increased demands in healthcare and promoting high‐quality care. Introduction: In Germany, advanced practice nursing is still at an early stage with a lack of studies describing the scope of practice of nurses in expanded roles. Methods: We conducted a cross‐sectional‐study using a paper‐and‐pencil questionnaire. In a nationwide convenience sample, we surveyed nurses with an academic degree, who work in an acute care hospital and take over expanded roles in direct patient care. Reporting followed the STROBE checklist. Results: Of 108 eligible nurses, 84 (77%) completed the survey. The majority had a Master's degree (63.1%) and the average work experience was 18.2 years. Participants carried out activities in all the domains that were queried (direct clinical practice, guidance and coaching, consultation, leadership and research) with differences within and between domains. Foci were on direct clinical practice and coaching and guidance. Discussion: In Germany, qualifications are nearing the international standard of advanced practice nursing. Results suggest that participants partly undertake activities within the scope of registered nurses' practice that do not correspond fully to their formal qualifications. Conclusion and implications for nursing and/or health policy: In order to foster the role development of expanded practice nurses in Germany, political efforts are needed in terms of training (e.g. specific Master's programmes), funding of corresponding positions in practice and control mechanisms (e.g. professional registration). Advanced practice nurses constitute a new professional group within the French health care system. Advanced practice nurses specialise in one of five disciplines including Psychiatry/Mental‐Health. This specific discipline is strongly marked by stigmatising representations by healthcare users and other health professionals (including other advanced practice nurses), whose consequences have a deleterious effect. The aim was to highlight all advanced practice nurses representation of Psychiatry/Mental‐Health advanced practice nurses. An observational descriptive survey, based on an anonymous online questionnaire was conducted in April 2022 among qualified and student advanced practice nurses from the five specialist disciplines. Overall, 356 advanced practice nurses completed the survey questionnaire. No significant difference in stigmatising representations of Psychiatry/Mental‐Health advanced practice nurses versus other advanced practice nurses was observed. Only 3.3% of other advanced practice nurses thought that Psychiatry/Mental‐Health advanced practice nurses are often 'strange'. Psychiatry/Mental‐Health advanced practice nurses and other advanced practice nurses appeared to have similar representations of the professional roles of advanced practice nurses in general and of advanced practice nurses APN specifically. Unlike other professionals in the psychiatric field (e.g. medical interns, nurses), very little stigmatisation of Psychiatry/Mental‐Health advanced practice nurses by their colleagues (i.e. other advanced practice nurses) was observed. This could be partly due to the fact that advanced practice nurses professional identity appeared to be built collectively around the concept of advanced practice. Advanced practice nurses constitute a professional group that is fully involved in contemporary transformations in care and organisational innovation. The very low level of stigmatisation of Psychiatry/Mental‐Health advanced practice nurses by other advanced practice nurses in our study suggests that these new healthcare actors could play a crucial role in the improvement of professional health practices, particularly in terms of improved coordination between psychiatric‐care and physical‐care. Background: Evidence‐based healthcare (EBHC) enables consistent and effective healthcare that prioritises patient safety. The competencies of advanced practice nurses (APNs) are essential for implementing EBHC because their professional duties include promoting EBHC. Aim: To identify, critically appraise, and synthesise the best available evidence concerning the EBHC competence of APNs and associated factors. Design: A systematic review. Data Sources: CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, Medic, ProQuest, and MedNar. Methods: Databases were searched for studies (until 19 September 2023) that examined the EBHC competence and associated factors of APNs were included. Quantitative studies published in English, Swedish and Finnish were included. We followed the JBI methodology for systematic review and performed a narrative synthesis. Results: The review included 12 quantitative studies, using 15 different instruments, and involved 3163 participants. The quality of the studies was fair. The APNs' EBHC competence areas were categorised into five segments according to the JBI EBHC model. The strongest areas of competencies were in global health as a goal, transferring and implementing evidence, while the weakest were generating and synthesising evidence. Evidence on factors influencing APNs' EBHC competencies was contradictory, but higher levels of education and the presence of an organisational research council may be positively associated with APNs' EBHC competencies. Conclusion: The development of EBHC competencies for APNs should prioritise evidence generation and synthesis. Elevating the education level of APNs and establishing a Research Council within the organisation can potentially enhance the EBHC competence of APNs. Implications for the Profession: We should consider weaknesses in EBHC competence when developing education and practical exercises for APNs. This approach will promote the development of APNs' EBHC competence and EBHC implementation in nursing practice. Objectives: To explore the presence of specialist outpatient nursing activity in care for kidney transplant recipients in Spain and to determine the level of competence development of this activity according to the Advanced Practice Nurse model. Design: Descriptive, cross‐sectional study. Participants and Measurements: All outpatient nurses specialising in renal transplantation in the 39 transplant hospitals in Spain were included. To fulfil the study objectives, an ad hoc questionnaire and the 'Advanced Practice Nurse Role Definition Instrument (IDREPA)' were administered to assess the nurses' level of competence development. Results: Of the facilities included in the study, 25 (64.1%) had posttransplant nursing activity, 13 (33.3%) had pretransplant nursing activity and 11 (28.2%) had nursing activity involving kidney donor candidates. Twenty‐seven specialist nurse's offices were identified. The results of the IDREPA reflect the presence of advanced practice in the domains of 'expert care planning' and 'comprehensive care'. Three (11.1%) nurses met all criteria for advanced nursing practice. Conclusion: The results on specialised outpatient nursing activity at the 39 transplantation facilities in Spain indicate a low presence of this type of activity, with an even lower presence of advanced practice nurses. Implications for Clinical Practice: Management teams should consider investing in the quality of care provided by advanced nurse practice to ensure that suitable treatment is provided and better clinical outcomes are obtained. An adequate workforce of healthcare professionals with special skills and knowledge in cancer care is vital for addressing the disparities in cancer prognosis. This study aimed to elucidate the trends in the advanced practice nursing workforce (APNW) in cancer care, which included certified nurse specialists (CNSs) and certified nurses (CNs) in each prefecture of Japan from the system's inception to the present. Further, it sought to analyze the regional disparities and compare these trends with other healthcare resources to identify contributing factors associated with the APNW in cancer care in each prefecture. Methods We performed a panel data analysis using publicly available data on the APNW in cancer care in each prefecture of Japan from 1996 to 2022. Gini coefficients were calculated to examine the trends in geographic equality. Univariate and multivariable fixed effect panel data regression models were used to examine regional factors associated with an APNW in cancer care. Results From 1996 to 2012, the APNW in cancer care increased from four to 6982 staff, while their Gini coefficients decreased from 0.79 to 0.43. However, from 2012 to 2022, the Gini coefficients decreased slightly from 0.43 to 0.41. The coefficient value was comparable to that for the disparity between hospital doctors (0.43) but more pronounced compared to those for other medical resources, such as hospitals (0.34), hospital nurses (0.37), and designated cancer care hospitals (0.29). The APNW in cancer care in each prefecture was significantly associated with a higher number of designed cancer care hospitals in the previous year (see first quartile, the coefficient for second quartile: 0.31, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.21–0.40), and a fewer number of hospital doctors (− 1.89, 95%CI − 2.70 to − 1.09). Conclusions The size of the APNW in cancer care has increased since the system was established in 1996 up till 2022. With the increase in numbers, geographic inequality narrowed until 2012 and has since then remained stagnant.

Background: Prolonged periods of immunosuppression during hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) can result in serious infectious complications and contribute to transplant‐related morbidity and mortality. Adherence to standardized pre and postinfection screening guidelines, prescribed medications, and early identification of infectious symptoms through comprehensive patient and family education are crucial to minimizing infectious complications. Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are key members of the multidisciplinary care team in the HSCT specialty, maintaining a specialized skillset and scope of practice which includes a holistic based, preventative medicine and risk mitigation approach. Methods: This review sought to describe the role of the APN in HSCT care and to further examine existing APN led models of care which focus on infection prevention and education throughout the HSCT treatment journey. Results: No studies specifically examined the APN role in infectious diseases risk assessment, screening, and management throughout the HSCT journey were identified throughout our review, however, there was considerable evidence to demonstrate the benefits of APN led care in the oncology and solid organ transplantation specialty which led to improvements in continuity of care, overall patient outcomes, and multidisciplinary team collaboration. The key themes identified in our review, were the role of the APN in the delivery of comprehensive patient and family education, the role of the APN in supporting, mentoring, and educating junior medical and nursing teams, the collaboration between the APN and the multidisciplinary care team, and the role of the APN in prompt recognition, triage, and management of treatment related complications, such as infection. Aims Same-day discharge (SDD) after atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation is an effective means to spare healthcare resources. However, safety remains a concern, and besides structural adaptations, SDD requires more efficient logistics and coordination. Therefore, in this study, we implement a streamlined, nurse-coordinated SDD programme following a standardized protocol. Methods and results As a dedicated SDD coordinator, a nurse specialized in ambulatory cardiac interventions was in charge of the full SDD protocol, including eligibility, patient flow, in-hospital logistics, patient education, and discharge as well as early post-discharge follow-up by smartphone-based virtual visits. Patients planned for AF ablation were considered eligible if they had a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥35%, with basic support at home and accessibility of the hospital within 60 min also forming a part of the eligibility criteria. A total of 420 consecutive patients were screened by the SDD coordinator, of whom 331 were eligible for SDD. The reasons for exclusion were living remotely (29, 6.9%), lack of support at home (19, 4.5%), or LVEF <35% (17, 4.0%). Of the eligible patients, 300 (91%) were successfully discharged the same day. There were no major post-SDD complications. Rates of unplanned medical attention (19, 6.3%) and 30-day readmission (5, 1.6%) were extremely low and driven by femoral access–site complications. These were significantly reduced upon the introduction of compulsory ultrasound-guided punctures after the initial 150 SDD patients (P = 0.0145). Standardized SDD coordination resulted in efficient workflows and reduced the total workload of the medical staff. Conclusion Same-day discharge after AF ablation following a nurse-coordinated standardized protocol is safe and efficient. The concept of ambulatory cardiac intervention nurses functioning as dedicated coordinators may be key in the future transition of hospitals to SDD. Objectives: This study addresses the growing demand for palliative care (PC) by exploring the role of advanced nursing practice (ANP) within the multidisciplinary team. The purpose is to outline the background of ANP in PC, its interest, training needs, and some recommendations for its establishment in the Moroccan healthcare system. Materials and Methods: A rapid review of relevant studies was carried out through databases following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses standards, edition (2020). The inclusion criteria focussed on studies published within the nursing domain between 2012 and 2022, with a preference for the English language. Results: Study selection allowed to obtain eight relevant studies. The studies agreed that ANP improves the quality of care provided. It has a major role to play in the multidisciplinary team by mobilising all the knowledge required to offer a complete range of care for patients with needs. Nevertheless, its implementation is fraught with challenges. Conclusion: ANP will be able to address the complexity of patient and family needs and serve as cost-effective medical care coordinators for patients and families with both chronic and life-limiting illnesses, to reduce suffering and improve the quality of living and dying across the lifespan. Advanced practice nurses execute assigned authorisations by mobilising the knowledge acquired through university training. Aim: This paper discusses the benefits of international collaborations for advanced practice nursing education. It identifies new perspectives and innovative practices to enhance cultural competency. Background: Competent, well‐trained advanced practice nurses (APNs) are necessary to provide high‐quality and safe patient care, improve access to care, and address health disparities that are no longer geographically bound. In 2021, an international network of advanced practice educators established an active learning program to teach students their role in global citizenship and increase awareness of health disparities. APN students from Scotland, Wales, Minnesota, Houston, and Rotterdam participated in presentations, online discussions, and in‐country scholarships. Sources of evidence: Growing health disparities have created the need for efficient international collaboration to develop new concepts, approaches, and bidirectional exchange of experiences, culture, and knowledge. Integrating global health into curricula engages students' curiosity and integrates education, research, practice, and leadership while improving cultural competency. Discussion: Forty‐two students participated in the international presentations. The students strongly believed in the benefit of international collaboration and the need for a universal role for the advanced practice nurse. They responded positively to sharing cultural and clinical experiences. Conclusion: The recent global health challenge supported the development of innovative methods to deliver education and created an opportunity for advanced practice students to develop cultural competence and critical thinking. Collaborative solutions are essential to education and healthcare as we move forward in the 21st century. Implications for nursing practice: Robust international collaborations have enabled the development of cultural competence and critical thinking. Abstract Background New healthcare professions are emerging due to scarce medical resources. The appearance of a new healthcare profession, advanced practice nurses (APNs), has raised questions about how general practitioners interrelate with them as primary care providers. The objective of this study was to explore the perceptions general practitioners have towards the services rendered by APNs to patients, to general practice and the role they play in the healthcare system. Methods A survey-based, cross-sectional study was conducted throughout the Grand Est region of France which covers 57,333km2 and has a population of approximately 5,562,651. The survey was compiled using pre-existing questionnaires and was carried out from July to September 2022 via email. Variables collected were rate of acceptability and socio-demographic characteristics. Results In total, 251 responses were included. The mean age of general practitioners was 41.7 years, most were women (58.2%) and worked in rural areas of the region (53.8%). Over 80% of respondents practiced in group structures (defined as either multi-professional health centers (n = 61) or in group practices (n = 143)). Most respondents (94.0%) were familiar with the APN profession and did not consider that APNs improved access to care (55.8%, percent of responders with score ≤ 3/10). Moreover, most did not believe that APNs were useful as a primary care provider for patients (61.8%). However, being a member of a territorialized healthcare community, known as Communautés Professionnelles Territoriales de Santé (CPTS), was associated with a positive appraisal of APNs’ services (OR = 2.116, 95%CI: 1.223 to 3.712; p = 0.007). Conclusions Encouraging shared and networked practice within a healthcare community may promote a positive perception of new actors. Further studies need to be conducted to show whether the integration of APNs into healthcare networks improves quality of care.

The Williams and McCoy Motivational Spirited Cognitive Behavioral Change Communication (MIS-CBC) is an innovative model combining the spirit of motivational interviewing (MI) communication, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a patient-centered care model to improve continuity of care while enabling patients to progress during therapy. Incorporating this model into Psychiatric Mental Health Advance Practice Nurse practice allows for provision of best practice with populations experiencing low motivation and subject to dropout. The model aims to improve patient motivation and engagement of CBT to achievement "full dose" CBT with more flexibility to significantly improve patient outcomes, particularly with patient populations subject to interruptions in psychotherapy. The Williams and McCoy MIS-CBC model has implications in areas of both practice and academia addressing episodic psychotherapy in populations where interruptions and dropout frequently occur. Introduction: Professionalism is a multidimensional and dynamic concept that can be understood and interpreted differently depending on time, job position, or culture context. Objective: To investigate how nurses with advanced practice interpret and understand professionalism in the Slovak sociocultural context. Methods: This qualitative study adopted an interpretative design. The sample consisted of seven advanced practice nurses (APNs). Data were collected between November 2021 and December 2022 using semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Professionalism was interpreted through five meaningful themes: Management support; Professional socialization; Nurse professional; Challenges and problems of professionalism in nursing; Relationships. Advanced practice nurses interpreted professionalism as a multidimensional concept that encompasses several interconnected attributes. Nurses highlighted the role of professional organization, the importance of professional socialization, education, and lifelong learning as important attributes in building and maintaining professionalism - and considered the nurse shortage to be one of the biggest challenges that threatens professionalism. Conclusion: Advanced practice nurses contribute to the sustainability of the health system. Their understanding and interpretation of professionalism may support the nursing profession in general. Advanced practice nurses (APNs) care for various patient populations in a wide variety of settings. The four types of APNs in the USA (certified nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, and certified registered nurse anaesthetist) have differences and commonalities related to education, licensure, and certification. Care provided by APNs has been demonstrated to be of high quality, and APNs are active and engaged participants in continuing professional development (CPD) as CPD is required to maintain licensure and board certification. Design Scoping review. The results were summarised using a narrative synthesis technique. Data Sources A review of the literature published between 2001 and 2021 was conducted between October and November 2021 using PubMed, CINAHL and SciELO. Review Methods The research team agreed on a search strategy based on clinical practice guidelines for assessing kidney transplantation candidates. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies published in peer‐reviewed journals in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese were included. Results A total of 377 studies were identified, and 49 articles were included after the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The narrative synthesis was structured into four themes: Physical needs; Psychological and quality of life needs; Education and adherence needs; and Nurses' role. Conclusion Nursing assessment of kidney transplantation candidates should encompass physical, psychosocial and adherence aspects. A variety of methodologies and resources are available for this assessment. Nurses contribute to coordinating access to kidney transplantation, aiming to improve adherence to an appropriate lifestyle to prevent patients from being excluded from kidney transplantation or suffering from kidney transplantation–related complications. Impact Based on our findings, we managed to design a nursing care map for kidney transplantation candidates combining the main elements of nursing care that should be incorporated into this process. Despite the establishment of the Chinese Regional Trauma Care System (CRTCS) in 2016, advanced trauma nurse practice has not been incorporated. This study aimed to identify the roles and responsibilities of trauma advanced practice nurse (APN), and to investigate the impact on patient outcomes in a Level I regional trauma centre in mainland China. Design A single‐centre pre‐ and post‐control design was used. Methods The trauma APN programme was established based on multidisciplinary experts' consultation. A retrospective study was conducted on all Level I trauma patients over a period of 5 years, spanning from January 2017 to December 2021, with a sample size of 2420. The data were divided into two comparison groups: a pre‐APN programme (January 2017–December 2018; n = 1112) and post‐APN programme (January 2020–December 2021; n = 1308). Abstract Background Hypertension is the most frequent chronic pathology in France and in the world. It is one of the main modifiable cardiovascular risk factors. In France, 50% of treated hypertensives are uncontrolled and only 30% of treated patients are fully adherent to their antihypertensive treatment. Poor adherence to drug treatments is considered as one of the main causes of non-control of hypertension. Since 2018, a new profession has entered the French healthcare system: advanced practice nurses (APN). They have many broad-based skills, at the interface of nursing and medical exercises. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of an APN intervention versus usual care on hypertension control. Methods The study will take place at the Hôtel-Dieu University Hospital, Paris, France, as prospective, open-label, controlled, randomized 1-to-1, monocentric, and superiority trial. The participants will be recruited during day hospitalization for cardiovascular assessment in the context of their hypertension management. Patients will be divided into two groups: a “usual care” group which will continue traditional follow-up (day hospitalization followed by consultation with a medical doctor (MD) within approximately 2–12 months) and an “intervention” group which will meet an APN between the day hospitalization and the MD consultation. Participants will be monitored until 12 months after the day hospitalization, depending on their last follow-up study appointment (MD consultation). The primary outcome is the rate of controlled BP (BP < 140/90 mmHg in office BP measurement) in each group. The hypothesis formulated is that an individual APN intervention, included in usual hypertension management, improves hypertension control. Discussion This innovative study will be the first in France where APNs are beginning to be established in the healthcare system. It will provide an objective look at this new profession and the impact it can have in the framework of global management of hypertension. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT0448249. The average emergency department length of stay (LOS) decreased 21%, from 168 to 132 min (p < 0.001); additionally, the mean intensive care unit LOS decreased by nearly 1 day (p = 0.028). Trauma patients who were treated by trauma APN had a higher likelihood of survival, with an odds ratio of 1.816 (95%CI: 1.041, 3.167; p = 0.033), compared to patients who received care prior to the implementation of the trauma APN program. Conclusion: A trauma APN programme has the potential to enhance the quality of trauma care in the CRTCS. Impact: This study elucidates the roles and responsibilities of trauma advanced practice nurses (APN) in a Level I regional trauma centre in mainland China. Trauma care quality was significantly improved after the application of a trauma APN programme. In regions with inadequate medical resources, the utilization of advanced practice trauma nurses can enhance the quality of trauma care. In addition, trauma APN can provide a trauma nursing education programme within the regional centres as a strategy to augment the proficiency of regional trauma nursing. In some countries, restructuring of the healthcare system has contributed to the introduction of a new domain in professional nursing—the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). In order to provide the highest quality of care to patients, nurses working at the advanced level are expected to develop knowledge and to initiate services and practices carried out in collaboration with other professionals. In 2018, the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) updated its recommendations for the role of the nurse in the management and care of patients with rheumatic conditions. The objective of the study was a presentation of the scope of medical services provided by nurses for patients with rheumatic diseases based on current EULAR recommendations. A review of the literature on the participation of nurses, as members of a multidisciplinary team, in the education, management, psychosocial support, and promotion of self-care in patients with rheumatic diseases was presented. The expert group formulated three overarching principles and eight recommendations. The literature review and expert recommendations indicated that nurses' tasks in relation to patients with rheumatic diseases should include an initial assessment of health needs, routine follow-up care, and counseling for patients on self-care and lifestyle changes. In the EULAR recommendations, nursing care is also defined as a practice model in which nurses, in collaboration with physicians, provide support, education, and disease monitoring to patients with rheumatic conditions. The requirement for extended nursing education at the advanced practice level, aimed at acquiring diagnostic, therapeutic, caring, and educational knowledge and skills was highlighted, particularly with regard to the EULAR recommendations. Abstract Background Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) have been highly valued and an integral part of the health care system. Development and establishment of new APN roles is a complex process that has resulted from a wide variety of reasons, key component is a lack of a competency map delineation and role evaluation. Currently, however, competence framework has not been compared at an international level. In mainland China, APN have been introduced in some organizations but their competency domains have not yet been clearly defined, this study aimed to identify the core competencies for advanced practice nursing. Methods This study was performed in two phases: first, in-depth and semi-structured individual interviews with 46 participants from key stakeholders were carried out followed by a qualitative content analysis, then an item pool of core competencies was constructed by extracting data from the first phase and the results from previous studies, scales and documents; second, a Delphi technique was conducted with the participation of 28 experts from 7 areas of China to form the final core competency framework for advanced practice nursing. Results Through the qualitative phase, the core competency framework with six domains and 70 items emerged and then entered into the Delphi phase. Twenty-eight of 30 experts finished 2 rounds of Delphi approaches. The final core competencies for advanced practice nursing consisted of six domains with 61 items, including direct clinical nursing practice, research and evidence-based nursing practice, professional development, organization and management, mentoring and consultation, and ethical/legal practice. Conclusion This core competency framework consisted of six domains with 61 items can be used in competency-based education to cultivate advanced practice nurses as well as competency level assessment.

Abstract Background Determining the core competence of advanced practice nurses is foundational for promoting optimal design and implementation of advanced practice nursing roles. Core competencies specific to the contexts of the advanced practice nurse in Hong Kong have been developed, but not yet validated. Thus, this study aims to assess the construct validity of advanced practice nurse core competence scale in Hong Kong. Methods We performed a cross-sectional study using an online self-report survey. Exploratory factor analysis was used to examine the factor structure of a 54-item advanced practice nurse core competence scale through principal axis factoring with direct oblique oblimin rotation. A parallel analysis was conducted to determine the number of factors to be extracted. The Cronbach’s α was computed to evaluate the internal consistency of the confirmed scale. The STROBE checklist was used as reporting guideline. Results A total of 192 advanced practice nurse responses were obtained. Exploratory factor analysis led to the final 51-item scale with a three-factor structure, which accounted for 69.27% of the total variance. The factor loadings of all items ranged from 0.412 to 0.917. The Cronbach’s alpha of the total scale and three factors ranged from 0.945 to 0.980, indicating robust internal consistency. Conclusion This study identified a three-factor structure of the advanced practice nurse core competency scale: client-related competencies, advanced leadership competencies, and professional development and system-related competencies. Future studies are recommended to validate the core competence content and construct in different contexts. Moreover, the validated scale could provide a cornerstone framework for advanced practice nursing roles development, education, and practice, and inform future competency research nationally and internationally.

This article applied a family strengths-oriented therapeutic conversations approach to explore the advanced practice nursing experience of a female adolescent with Leigh Syndrome and her family. During the nursing care period from September 20 to November 19, 2022, the author collected data through direct care, observation, interview, telecare, home visits, and medical record reviews and confirmed the nursing problems to be the inadequate coping capability of the family. The author leveraged her advanced nurse practitioner role and used family strength-oriented therapeutic conversations to enable the parents of the patient to reflect on their experiences with this disease and to improve their quality of life and satisfaction with healthcare services. Three modes of care, including accessibility, coordination, and comprehensiveness, were offered to the female adolescent patient and her family to achieve the goal of family-centered, community-based, and medical-system-centered care. It is suggested that before making healthcare decisions, patients and their families should be given the opportunity to participate in the healthcare process and reach consensus on healthcare decisions based on existing evidence and their values and preferences.
