The economic crisis that began in 2008 caused an increase in skilled Spanish emigration, including scientists, many of whom settled in the United Kingdom. The objective of this article is to analyse the perspectives of a group of Spanish scientists regarding remaining in the United Kingdom or returning to Spain during the economic crisis in order to better understand this dilemma faced by this type of highly-qualified migrant. A qualitative method strategy was employed through semi-structured in-depth interviews carried out with 20 researchers. The results of the study show that, although the idea and desire to return was a recurring theme brought up by the researchers interviewed, the majority of them lean towards remaining in the United Kingdom. Professional and family/personal factors emerged when the interviewees discuss whether to return or remain. In 1957, Tsien Hsue-shen published an article entitled "On the Technological Sciences" in Chinese Science Bulletin, which laid the foundation for the research of technological sciences in China. However, in the following 60 years, the thought of technological sciences failed to receive stable attention and support. It was not until 2021 when General Secretary Xi Jinping made another important statement at the 20th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the 15th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 10th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology that technological sciences had entered into a new period of historical opportunity. Under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourse, the study provides an academic interpretation of technological sciences in three dimensions: disciplinary system, academic system and discourse system, in order to provide decision-making reference and knowledge system support for better guiding the development of science and technology innovation in China. The purpose of this study is to examine the unique characteristics of the Korean academic system with regard to brain circulation, with a specific emphasis on the influence of overseas-trained academics on research activities within the Korean academic system. We have analyzed the statistical data on individual characteristics and performances of 48,499 Korean academics in science and engineering. We have examined the results at both the system and individual levels within the broader context of the macro characteristics of the Korean academic system. Our analysis reveals that the total number of domestically-trained academics exceeds the number of overseas-trained academics. However, in terms of research funding, overseas-trained academics tend to receive more funding than domestically-trained academics. Furthermore, after controlling other factors such as funding, personal attributes, and environmental factors, our analysis demonstrates that overseas training has a significant and favorable impact on the publication of internationally renowned journals. As such, the presence of overseas returnees has been essential for the effective functioning of the Korean academic system in the global research network and for conducting high-quality academic research. Therefore, the advantages of dependence on scientific core countries such as the US for overseas training have persisted. Nevertheless, upon scrutinizing the group of recently appointed 5,806 academics exclusively, we have discovered that junior academics who received their education domestically exhibit sufficient academic proficiency compared to their colleagues educated overseas. The article explores the issue of the structural transformation of the contemporary American academic system, namely one of the main formats existing in it – universities and their functioning during the first months of the spread of coronavirus infection. The COVID-19 pandemic has had the vast and most comprehensive impact on the higher education systems of the first world countries, which was demonstrated in the article. It is worth noting that the actively current trends of digitalisation, computerisation and the general implementation of the advancements of the scientific and technological progress of the higher education system were overlapped by the new emergency conditions of the pandemic and the need to choose a different format of functioning in the current situation. The ongoing transformations and structural alterations are most visible in the United States of America, due to a number of factors – from the historical dynamism of the development of the American higher education system to its active role in the development and rollout of technological advancements. The American academic system is introduced and analysed in two main formats: public universities and private ones. Each group of the indicated universities has chosen its own strategy of functioning and implemented it in practice, resting on individual factors and conditions. Nevertheless, there is already a separation between these two large groups of American universities in the implementation of functioning strategies during the coronavirus pandemic. The analysis of factors, conditions, contexts and actions of universities from these groups allows us to understand not only the dynamics of the development of the American academic system at the moment but also will allow us to comprehend its future transformations and alterations.

What humans can be, they must be. They must be true to their own nature. Abraham Maslow Oleanna is a 1992 play by the American playwright and author, David Mamet. This three-act, two-character play is about a tricky clash between a professor, John, and his student, Carol, who has a prejudice towards him and duels against him to defeat him. This play has mostly been analyzed through the thematic concepts of sexual harassment and power play between two opposite sexes. However, this essay is a try to do something innovative. In this study, with the help of Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, as the methodology, it is going to be approved that the whole story is shaped around shortage and lack because human beings are motivated by their unsatisfied needs. Five levels of the hierarchy are used for looking deep into the characters' behavior. Physiological needs and the needs for safety, belongingness and love, esteem and self-actualization are the different steps of Maslow's pyramid. As it is going to be discussed, the need for knowledge, skill improvement, making the world a better place by theorizing about the dystopian aspects of life, dealing with problems by writing books and even financial betterment are all the surface plotline of the story; these are all some portraits of the Oleannaian utopia that is going to be built through the academic system. Background: Integrating health information into university information systems holds significant potential for enhancing student support and well-being. Despite the growing body of research highlighting issues faced by university students, including stress, depression, and disability, little has been done in the informatics field to incorporate health technologies at the institutional level., Objective: This study aims to investigate the current state of health information integration within university systems and provide design recommendations to address existing gaps and opportunities., Methods: We used a user-centered approach to conduct interviews and focus group sessions with stakeholders to gather comprehensive insights and requirements for the system. The methodology involved data collection, analysis, and the development of a suggested workflow., Results: The findings of this study revealed the shortcomings in the current process of handling health and disability data within university information systems. In our results, we discuss some requirements identified for integrating health-related information into student information systems, such as privacy and confidentiality, timely communication, task automation, and disability resources. We propose a workflow that separates the process into 2 distinct components: a health and disability system and measures of quality of life and wellness. The proposed workflow highlights the vital role of academic advisors in facilitating support and enhancing coordination among stakeholders., Conclusions: To streamline the workflow, it is vital to have effective coordination among stakeholders and redesign the university information system. However, implementing the new system will require significant capital and resources. We strongly emphasize the importance of increased standardization and regulation to support the information system requirements for health and disability. This article is based on the idea that the appropriation of university governance in sub-Saharan Africa is registered in a globalization paradigm. In fact, sub-Saharan academic systems are socialized to governance by external actors, namely international institutions, specialized institutions and university cooperation agencies which give African academic systems a foundation of new managerial technics. Sub-Saharan academic systems adopt this foundation and integrate it into a reform process. These reforms are concrete answer to the standardization of university governance, thereby allowing them to cooperate with Western universities, as well as financial and specialized institutions to obtain technical and financial resources. The purpose of this study was to identify the dimensions and components of the academic system's partnership in the teacher education process of Iran and to design a model in this area. This research was done using the interpretive approach and the exploratory method. The semi-structured interview was used to collect data. For this purpose, using the purposeful sampling method and the intensity and chain sampling techniques, 15 experts and faculty members of Iran's Society of Educational Sciences and teacher education were selected. Qualitative data was analyzed through the thematic analysis approach and the inductive or grounded theory methods. The Research findings indicated the identification and extraction of 36 sub-components and 9 main components in the form of 5 Dimensions including "the challenging", "theoretical", "practical", "linking theory and practice", and "developmental". The credibility and validation of the results was done by the Delphi technique and implementing the binomial test, in addition to the triangulation in the data collection and analysis processes as well as member checking and peer debriefing meeting. Finally, “the model of the academic system partnership in the teacher education process of the country” was designed and presented.

The present paper aims to investigate students’ motivation to continue learning as well as their perception on the support provided by their professors during a period of online courses. The questionnaires where developed and the data used was collected from the first-year students of “Ovidius” University of Constanta, the Faculty of Economic Studies. Various cross-disciplinary theories explain that students learning occurs only when properly motivated, especially in a period when social and environmental challenges impact on academic structure. Therefore, we decided to investigate up to what extent this vital component of the learning process was challenged. The questionnaire investigated the problem of motivation for the first-year students to continue their studies and the circumstances which could encourage them to continue their effort. We paid particular attention to the social component, as well as to the special social connections they perceive, or they manage to develop during this period.

Cet article porte principalement sur l’idée selon laquelle l’appropriation de la gouvernance universitaire en Afrique subsaharienne s’inscrit dans le paradigme de la mondialisation. En effet, les systèmes universitaires subsahariens sont socialisés à la gouvernance par les acteurs extérieurs que sont les institutions internationales, les instituts spécialisés et les agences de coopération universitaire. Ces acteurs transmettent aux systèmes universitaires africains les piliers de la nouvelle donne managériale. Les systèmes universitaires subsahariens les adoptent et les intègrent en se réformant. L’adoption de ces piliers est une réponse concrète à l’uniformisation des manières de gouverner l’université. Cela leur permet de coopérer avec les universités occidentales, d’obtenir des ressources techniques et financières des institutions financières et des institutions spécialisées. Les systèmes universitaires subsahariens se trouvent enrôlés dans le phénomène de gouvernance universitaire qui est d’actualité dans l’économie du savoir.

Philosophy is presented in a wide range of forms, none of which can be convincingly claimed to be the "genuine" one. Historically speaking, there is not one "proper" way of doing philosophy, evidencing what may be called the social contingency of philosophy. This paper aims to provide a "critical" philosophy of today, in the Kantian sense of a philosophy that reflects on the conditions of its possibility, and thereby acknowledges the limitations they impose. Conceptually, our approach is grounded in Niklas Luhmann's social systems theory, in which "functional differentiation" and "second-order observation" are two crucial characteristics of modern society. The paper discusses how presentations of philosophy align themselves with the second-order observation mechanisms of the specific social systems in which they are "hosted." This paper deals in particular with two such systems: academics and social (or mass) media. The establishment of China's modern academic system was shaped by the interaction of internal (traditional) elements and external (Western) forces. Therefore, China and Western countries display many similarities in their academic systems. As with its Western counterpart, China's modern academic system is characterized by disciplined knowledge, theories, and research methods. However, there are also significant differences between the modern Chinese and Western academic systems. China's academic system has made significant progress in modernization, yet is also distorted in this process. This paper traces the historical evolution of the modern Chinese academic system and the key thoughts of contemporary Chinese scholars to reevaluate China's academic modernization experience. In recent years, the evolution of education and curriculum has been one of the most important topics in educational circles. This implies that programs implemented in education for various reasons have not fully achieved the goals set. One of reasons for this is to “disregard localization in curriculum”. Curriculum studies are among disciplines that can play an important role in influencing humanities curriculum planning process. But lack of a suitable indigenous curriculum template has made it increasingly reliant on foreign sources and imported and translated terms are used in abundance that has been led to little attention to customs, culture, social, economic and political conditions of society. Although Iranian culture and civilization originates from the fullest range of divine teachings, the educational system has failed to provide an appropriate educational model that is appropriate to cultural conditions throughout the country. A descriptive-analytical approach has been used to answer this question. The findings suggest that in order to change the humanities curriculum into an academic system, the curriculum needs to benefit from its rich Iranian culture and civilization in addition to applying the experiences of other countries and even goes a step further and introduce to the world a pattern arising from Iranian culture and civilization.

This paper presents a study on Predicting Student Performance (PSP) in academic systems. In order to solve the task, we have proposed and investigated different strategies. Specifically, we consider this task as a regression problem and a rating prediction problem in recommender systems. To improve the performance of the former, we proposed the use of additional features based on course-related skills. Moreover, to effectively utilize the outputs of these two strategies, we also proposed a combination of the two methods to enhance the prediction performance. We evaluated the proposed methods on a dataset which was built using the mark data of students in information technology at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). The experimental results have demonstrated that unlike the PSP in e-Learning systems, the regression-based approach should give better performance than the recommender system-based approach. The integration of the proposed features also helps to enhance the performance of the regression-based systems. Overall, the proposed hybrid method achieved the best RMSE score of 1.668. These promising results are expected to provide students early feedbacks about their (predicted) performance on their future courses, and therefore saving times of students and their tutors in determining which courses are appropriate for students’ ability.

This manifesto presents 10 recommendations for a sustainable future for the field of Work and Organizational Psychology. The manifesto is the result of an emerging movement around the Future of WOP (see ), which aims to bring together WOP-scholars committed to actively contribute to building a better future for our field. Our recommendations are intended to support both individuals and collectives to become actively engaged in co-creating the future of WOP together with us. Therefore, this manifesto is open and never "finished." It should continuously evolve, based on an ongoing debate around our professional values and behavior. This manifesto is meant, first of all, for ourselves as an academic community. Furthermore, it is also important for managers, decision makers, and other stakeholders and interested parties, such as students, governments and organizations, as we envision what the future of WOP could look like, and it is only through our collective efforts that we will be able to realize a sustainable future for all of us.
