Abstract Background Schizophrenia (SCZ) patients undergoing antipsychotic treatment demonstrated a high prevalence and harmful effects of metabolic syndrome (MetS), which acted as the major cause of cardiovascular disease. The major clinical challenge is the lack of biomarkers to identify MetS episodes and prevent further damage, while the mechanisms underlying these drug-induced MetS remain unknown. Methods This study divided 173 participants with SCZ into 3 groups (None, High risk, and MetS, consisting of 22, 88, and 63 participants, respectively). The potential biomarkers were searched based on 16S rRNA gene sequence together with metabolism analysis. Logistic regression was used to test the effects of the genus-metabolites panel on early MetS diagnoses. Results A genus-metabolites panel, consisting of Senegalimassilia, sphinganine, dihomo-gamma-linolenoylcholine, isodeoxycholic acid, and MG (0:0/22:5/0:0), which involved in sphigolipid metabolism, fatty acid metabolism, secondary bile acid biosynthesis and glycerolipid metabolism, has a great discrimination efficiency to MetS with an area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.911 compared to the None MetS group (P = 1.08E-8). Besides, Senegalimassilia, 3-Hydroxytetradecanoyl carnitine, isodeoxycholic acid, and DG(TXB2/0:0/2:0) distinguished between subgroups robustly and exhibited a potential correlation with the severity of MetS in patients with SCZ, and may act as the biomarkers for early MetS diagnosis. Conclusions Our multi–omics study showed that one bacterial genus-five lipid metabolites panel is the potential risk factor for MetS in SCZ. Furthermore, Senegalimassilia, 3-Hydroxytetradecanoyl carnitine, isodeoxycholic acid, and DG(TXB2/0:0/2:0) could serve as novel diagnostic markers in the early stage. So, it is obvious that the combination of bacterial genus and metabolites yields excellent discriminatory power, and the lipid metabolism provide new understanding to the pathogenesis, prevention, and therapy for MetS in SCZ.

Objective Surgical procedures for patients with posttraumatic syringomyelia (PTS) remain controversial. Until now, there have been no effective quantitative evaluation methods to assist in selecting appropriate surgical plans before surgery. Methods We consecutively enrolled PTS patients (arachnoid lysis group, n = 42; shunting group, n = 14) from 2003 to 2023. Additionally, 19 intrathecal anesthesia patients were included in the control group. All patients with PTS underwent physical and neurological examinations and spinal magnetic resonance imaging preoperatively, 3–12 months postoperatively and during the last follow-up. Preoperative lumbar puncture was performed and blood-spinal cord barrier disruption was detected by quotient of albumin (Qalb, cerebrospinal fluid/serum). Results The ages (p = 0.324) and sex (p = 0.065) of the PTS and control groups did not differ significantly. There were also no significant differences in age (p = 0.216), routine blood data and prognosis (p = 0.399) between the arachnoid lysis and shunting groups. But the QAlb level of PTS patients was significantly higher than that of the control group (p < 0.001), and the shunting group had a significantly higher QAlb (p < 0.001) than the arachnoid lysis group. A high preoperative QAlb (odds ratio, 1.091; 95% confidence interval, 1.004–1.187; p = 0.041) was identified as the predictive factor for the shunting procedure, with the receiver operating characteristic curve showing 100% specificity and 80.95% sensitivity for patients with a QAlb > 12.67. Conclusion Preoperative QAlb is a significant predictive factor for the types of surgery. For PTS patients with a QAlb > 12.67, shunting represents the final recourse, necessitating the exploration and development of novel treatments for these patients.

Abstract The reliable joint connection between precast members is vital to resisting earthquake loads in precast concrete structures. To further improve the convenience of precast construction, this paper presents a new horizontal joint of precast concrete panels with castellated keys supports pillar connections based on the stable mechanical properties of the wet concrete joint. To examine the seismic response of this connection type, a series of in-plane cyclic loading tests were carried out using six full-size precast specimens and one cast-in-place specimen for comparison. The influences of axial compression ratio, joint width, and joint concrete strength on the seismic indicators of the precast concrete panel were considered in the design of specimens. The test results showed all specimens had the same damage process, and the ultimate failure modes combined compression and bending. The precast specimens exhibited similar seismic performance to the cast-in-place specimen, especially whose joint concrete strength is higher than the precast concrete panel. Based on the load–displacement test curve, a hysteretic curve model that included both the envelope curve and the stiffness degradation law was proposed. The predictions from the model showed good compatibility with the experimental results, and the model can be used as a reference for analyzing the elastic–plastic response of the precast concrete panels with castellated keys supporting pillar connections.

Objective Although cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-based liquid biopsy was proved to be practical in molecular analysis of intracranial gliomas, liquid biopsy of primary intramedullary astrocytoma was rarely reported. Given the distinct genomic profiles between primary intramedullary glioma and intracranial astrocytoma, whether the feasibility of CSF-based molecular analysis of intracranial gliomas can be replicated in primary spinal cord astrocytoma needs to be investigated. The aim of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility of molecular analysis of primary intramedullary astrocytoma through sequencing CSF-derived circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). Methods Two grade IV diffuse midline gliomas, 1 grade II, and 1 grade I astrocytoma were included. Intraoperative collection of peripheral blood and CSF samples was conducted, along with postoperative collection of matched tumor tissues. A panel covering the 1,021 most common driver genes of solid tumors was used for targeted DNA sequencing. Results CSF-derived ctDNA was detected in 3 CSF samples (2 grade IV diffuse midline gliomas and 1 grade I astrocytoma), 5 mutations were found in both tumor tissues and CSF samples, while 11 mutations and 20 mutations were detected exclusively in tumor tissues and CSF samples, respectively. Importantly, hotspot genetic alterations, including H3F3A K28M, TP53, and ATRX, were identified in CSF and the average mutant allele frequency was often higher in CSF than in tumor tissues. Conclusion CSF-based liquid biopsy showed potential feasibility for molecular analysis of primary intramedullary astrocytoma through sequencing of ctDNA. This approach may assist in diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of this rare spinal cord tumor.

Objective The surgical management of basilar invagination without atlantoaxial dislocation (type B basilar invagination) remains controversial. Hence, we have reported the use of posterior intra-articular C1–2 facet distraction, fixation, and cantilever technique versus foramen magnum decompression in treating type B basilar invagination as well as the results and surgical indications for this procedure. Methods This was a single-center retrospective cohort study. Fifty-four patients who underwent intra-articular distraction, fixation, and cantilever reduction (experimental group) and foramen magnum decompression (control group) were enrolled in this study. Distance from odontoid tip to Chamberlain’s line, clivus-canal angle, cervicomedullary angle, craniovertebral junction (CVJ) triangle area, width of subarachnoid space and syrinx were used for radiographic assessment. Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores and 12-item Short Form health survey (SF-12) scores were used for clinical assessment. Results All patients in the experimental group had a better reduction of basilar invagination and better relief of pressure on nerves. JOA scores and SF-12 scores also had better improvements in the experimental group postoperation. SF-12 score improvement was associated with preoperative CVJ triangle area (Pearson index, 0.515; p = 0.004), cutoff value of 2.00 cm2 indicating the surgical indication of our technique. No severe complications or infections occurred. Conclusion Posterior intra-articular C1–2 facet distraction, fixation, and cantilever reduction technique is an effective treatment for type B basilar invagination. As various factors involved, other treatment strategies should also be investigated.

The rapid emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) calls for efforts to study broadly neutralizing antibodies elicited by infection or vaccination so as to inform the development of vaccines and antibody therapeutics with broad protection. Here, we identified two convalescents of breakthrough infection with relatively high neutralizing titers against all tested viruses. Among 50 spike-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) cloned from their B cells, the top 6 neutralizing mAbs (KXD01-06) belong to previously defined IGHV3-53/3-66 public antibodies. Although most antibodies in this class are dramatically escaped by VOCs, KXD01-06 all exhibit broad neutralizing capacity, particularly KXD01-03, which neutralize SARS-CoV-2 from prototype to the emerging EG.5.1 and FL.1.5.1. Deep mutational scanning reveals that KXD01-06 can be escaped by current and prospective variants with mutations on D420, Y421, L455, F456, N460, A475 and N487. Genetic and functional analysis further indicates that the extent of somatic hypermutation is critical for the breadth of KXD01-06 and other IGHV3-53/3-66 public antibodies. Overall, the prevalence of broadly neutralizing IGHV3-53/3-66 public antibodies in these two convalescents provides rationale for novel vaccines based on this class of antibodies. Meanwhile, KXD01-06 can be developed as candidates of therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2 through further affinity maturation.

Background: This research was designed to investigate Algorithm Guided Treatment (AGT) and clinical traits for the prediction of antidepressant treatment outcomes in Chinese patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: This study included 581 patients who had reached treatment response and 406 patients remained non-responded observed after three months of treatment. Sociodemographic factors, clinical traits, and psychiatric rating scales for evaluating therapeutic responses between the two groups were compared. Logistic regression analysis was adopted to determine the risk factors of unresponsive to antidepressant (URA) in MDD. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was utilized to compare the therapeutic response between AGT and treatment as usual (TAU). Results: Compared to the MDD responsive to antidepressant (RA) group, the URA group had significantly lower rates of the following clinical traits: married status, anxious distress, moderate to severe depressive symptoms, and higher rates of comorbidity (p-value < 0.05). Logistic Regression Analysis showed that eight clinical traits from psychiatric rating scales, such as anxious characteristics, were correlated positively with URA, while the other eight symptoms, such as autonomic symptoms, were negatively correlated. Time to symptomatic remission was longer in TAU without statistically significant (p-value = 0.11) by log-rank testing. Conclusions: The factors may affect the therapeutic responses and compliance of patients, increasing the non-response risk for antidepressants. Therapeutic responses might be improved by increasing the clarification and elucidation of different symptom clusters of patients. Benefits on treatment response to AGT were not found in our study, indicating a one-size-fits-all approach may not work.Trial Registration: We registered as a clinical trial at the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (No. NCT01764867) and obtained ethical approval 2012-42 from SMHC.

Abstract Taxis is ubiquitous in biological and physical chemistry systems as a response to various external stimulations. We prepared aqueous droplets containing Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) solutions suspended on an oleic acid oil phase subject to DC electric field and found that these BZ droplets undergo chemically driven translational motion towards the negative electrode under DC electric field. This electrotaxis phenomenon originates from the field-induced inhomogeneous distribution of reactants, in particular Br $$^{-}$$ - ions, and consequently the biased location of the leading centers towards the positive electrode. We define the ’leading center’ (LC) as a specific location within the droplet where the BZ chemical wave (target pattern) is initiated. The chemical wave generated from the LC propagates passing the droplet center of mass and creates a gradient of interfacial tension when reaching the droplet-oil interface on the other side, resulting in a momentum exchange between the droplet and oil phases which drives the droplet motion in the direction of the electric field. A greater electric field strength renders a more substantial electrotaxis effect.

Deployable space structure technology is an approach used in building spacecraft, especially when realizing deployment and folding functions. Once in orbit, the structures are released from the fairing, deployed, and positioned. With the development of communication, remote-sensing, and navigation satellites, space-deployable structures have become cutting-edge research topics in space science and technology. This paper summarizes the current research status and development trend of space-deployable structures in China, including large space mesh antennas, space solar arrays, and deployable structures and mechanisms for deep-space exploration. Critical technologies of space-deployable structures are addressed from the perspectives of deployable mechanisms, cable-membrane form-finding, dynamic analysis, reliable environmental adaptability analysis, and validation. Finally, future technology developments and trends are elucidated in the fields of mesh antennas, solar arrays, deployable mechanisms, and on-orbit adjustment, assembly, and construction.

Abstract Flexible sensors used to detect NO2 gas generally have problems such as poor repeatability, high operating temperature, poor selectivity, and small detection range. In this work, a new spraying platform with a simple structure, low cost, and good film-forming consistency was designed and built to make a sensitive film (rGO/SnO2) for NO2 gas sensors. The relationship between the solid content of rGO and SnO2 nanoparticles, annealing temperature, and sensor performance was studied. The results show that the interdigital electrode-sensitive film formed by spraying 0.25 ml of a 0.4 wt% rGO/SnO2 mixture and annealing at 250 °C exhibited the best comprehensive performance for NO2 detection. The sensor’s response value for 100 ppm NO2 gas was 0.2640 at room temperature (25 °C), and the response time and recovery time were 412.4 s and 587.3 s, respectively. In the range of 20–100 ppm, the relationship between the response and NO2 concentration was linear, and the correlation coefficient was 0.9851. In addition, a soft-monitoring node module with an overlimit warning function for NO2 gas was designed and manufactured based on flexible electronics. Finally, the flexible sensor and node module were embedded into woven fabric that could be used to make a mask or a watch that could detect NO2 gas, realizing the practical application of flexible NO2 gas sensors in the field of wearable electronics.

In 2019, the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) put forward a new concept of “chronic primary pain” (CPP), a kind of chronic pain characterized by severe functional disability and emotional distress, which is a medical problem that deserves great attention. Although CPP is closely related to depressive disorder, its potential neural characteristics are still unclear. This paper collected EEG data from 67 subjects (23 healthy subjects, 22 patients with depression, and 22 patients with CPP) under the auditory oddball paradigm, systematically analyzed the brain network connection matrix and graph theory characteristic indicators, and classified the EEG and PLI matrices of three groups of people by frequency band based on deep learning. The results showed significant differences in brain network connectivity between CPP patients and depressive patients. Specifically, the connectivity within the frontoparietal network of the Theta band in CPP patients is significantly enhanced. The CNN classification model of EEG is better than that of PLI, with the highest accuracy of 85.01% in Gamma band in former and 79.64% in Theta band in later. We propose hyperexcitability in attentional control in CPP patients and provide a novel method for objective assessment of chronic primary pain.

Abstract Background Measurement-based care (MBC) is an evidence-based practice for depression, but its use by clinicians remains low. Enhanced MBC (eMBC), which uses digital technologies, can help to facilitate the use of MBC by clinicians and patients. Understanding factors that act as barriers and drivers to the implementation of MBC and eMBC is important to support the design of implementation strategies, promoting uptake by clinicians and patients. Objective This situational analysis identifies barriers and facilitators to the implementation of standard and eMBC at mental health centers in Shanghai, China. Methods We used mixed methods to develop a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing MBC and eMBC implementation in Shanghai. This study took place across three mental health centers in Shanghai. We used situational analysis tools to collect contextual information about the three centers, conducted surveys with n = 116 clinicians and n = 301 patients, conducted semi-structured interviews with n = 30 clinicians and six focus groups with a total of n = 19 patients. Surveys were analysed using descriptive statistics, and semi-structured interviews and focus groups were analysed using framework analysis. Results Several potential barriers and facilitators to MBC and eMBC implementation were identified. Infrastructure, cost, attitudes and beliefs, and perceptions about feasibility and efficacy emerged as both challenges and drivers to MBC and eMBC implementation in Shanghai. Conclusions The results of this study will directly inform the design of an implementation strategy for MBC and eMBC in Shanghai, that will be tested via a randomized controlled trial. This study contributes to the emerging body of literature on MBC implementation and, to the best of our knowledge, is the first such study to take place in Asia. This study identifies several factors that are relevant to the equitable delivery of MBC, recognizing the need to explicitly address equity concerns in global mental health implementation research.

BackgroundPatients with syringomyelia who present with new neurological symptoms after posterior fossa decompression (PFD) are not uncommon. However, systematic reports on different pathologies are few in the literature.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to summarize our experience for failed PFD.MethodsBetween January 2015 and December 2019, 85 consecutive failed PFD patients were identified. The neurological courses were summarized with Klekamp J (KJ) or mJOA score system for all patients. Long-term results were summarized with Kaplan-Meier method.ResultsTwenty-eight consecutive patients underwent FMDD (Foramen magnum and foramen of Magendie dredging) (Group I), extradural PFD and manipulation of tonsil was significantly associated with lower failure rates. Twenty patients underwent craniocervical fixation (Group II), nine underwent local spinal segment decompression (Group III), six underwent CSF diversion procedures, and one were treated for persistent pain by radiofrequency. Neuropathic pain was most significantly improved in Group I while swallowing improved in Group II within 1 year after the surgery. In the long term, late postoperative deterioration-free possibility in Group II was better than in Group I. All patients in Group III improved (P = 0.0088). Six cases of CSF diversion procedures were relieved in a short time. Pain in one patient persisted after PFD, and trial of radiofrequency failed.ConclusionNot only does the recurrent cerebrospinal fluid flow obstruct the foramen magnum, but also spinal pathologies and craniocervical instabilities may occur. This study provides the largest summarized clinical experience that may assist surgeons with different therapeutic decisions for failed PFD.

BackgroundNo prior reports have focused on spinal cord injury (SCI) characteristics or inflammation after destruction of the blood–spinal cord barrier by syringomyelia. This study aimed to determine the differences in syringomyelia-related central SCI between craniocervical junction (CCJ) syringomyelia and post-traumatic syringomyelia (PTS) before and after decompression.MethodsIn all, 106 CCJ, 26 CCJ revision and 15 PTS patients (mean history of symptoms, 71.5 ± 94.3, 88.9 ± 85.5, and 32.3 ± 48.9 months) between 2015 and 2019 were included. The symptom course was analyzed with the American Spinal Injury Association ASIA and Klekamp–Samii scoring systems, and neurological changes were analyzed by the Kaplan–Meier statistics. The mean follow-up was 20.7 ± 6.2, 21.7 ± 8.8, and 34.8 ± 19.4 months.ResultsThe interval after injury was longer in the PTS group, but the natural history of syringomyelia was shorter (p = 0.0004 and 0.0173, respectively). The initial symptom was usually paraesthesia (p = 0.258), and the other main symptoms were hypoesthesia (p = 0.006) and abnormal muscle strength (p = 0.004), gait (p < 0.0001), and urination (p < 0.0001). SCI associated with PTS was more severe than that associated with the CCJ (p = 0.003). The cavities in the PTS group were primarily located at the thoracolumbar level, while those in the CCJ group were located at the cervical-thoracic segment at the CCJ. The syrinx/cord ratio of the PTS group was more than 75% (p = 0.009), and the intradural adhesions tended to be more severe (p < 0.0001). However, there were no significant differences in long-term clinical efficacy or peripheral blood inflammation markers (PBIMs) except for the red blood cell (RBC) count (p = 0.042).ConclusionPTS tends to progress faster than CCJ-related syringomyelia. Except for the RBC count, PBIMs showed no value in distinguishing the two forms of syringomyelia. The predictive value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for syringomyelia-related inflammation was negative except in the acute phase.

BackgroundTwo-thirds of major depressive disorder (MDD) patients initially present with somatic symptoms, yet no study has used approaches based on somatic symptoms to subtype MDD. This study aimed to classify MDD via somatic symptoms and tracked the prognosis of each subtype.MethodsData were obtained from the study of Algorithm Guided Treatment Strategies for Major Depressive Disorder (AGTs-MDD). We recruited 395 subjects who received monotherapy of mirtazapine or escitalopram and conducted 2-, 4-, 6-, 8-, and 12-week follow-up assessments (n = 311, 278, 251, 199, and 178, respectively). Latent profile analysis (LPA) was performed on somatic symptom items of the depression and somatic symptoms scale (DSSS). Generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) were used to study the longitudinal prognosis of the subtypes classed by LPA. Primary outcome measures were the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), HAMD score reduction rate, as well as somatic and depressive items of DSSS.ResultsThree subtypes of MDD were found, namely, depression with mild somatic symptoms (68.9%), depression with moderate somatic symptoms (19.2%), and depression with severe somatic symptoms (11.9%). Scores of HAMD (F = 3.175, p = 0.001), somatic (F = 23.594, p < 0.001), and depressive (F = 4.163, p < 0.001) DSSS items throughout the 12-week follow-up showed statistical difference among the three subtypes. The moderate group displayed a higher HAMD-17 score and a lower reduction rate at the 6th week, and more severe depressive symptoms both at the 4th and 6th weeks.ConclusionThe results indicate that somatic symptoms should be emphasized in patients with MDD, and more attention is needed for those with moderate somatic symptoms, which may be relevant to a worse prognosis.

A virtual storage plant (VSP) is identified as an effective approach to aggregating distributed storage devices participating in power network supports with similar capability as bulk storage systems. In this study, we develop a distributed control framework for cost-effective storage coordination in the distribution networks, in which the energy storage units are coordinated to contribute to a given power reference at the aggregated level while regulating the local network voltages in the presence of renewable generations. The salient features of the proposed VSP control roots from the successful employment of an inexact alternating direction method of multiplier (ADMM) algorithm, in which the primal updates have analytical solutions in closed form using proximal operators, which significantly reduces the computation efforts of individual storage agents, and renders fast storage dispatch. The proposed control is favorable for near real-time storage dispatch in an optimal manner, and its effectiveness is demonstrated using realistic distributed networks in the simulations.

ObjectivesConventional biochemical indexes may have predictive values in clinical identification between bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD).MethodsThis study included 2,470 (BD/MDD = 1,333/1,137) hospitalized patients in Shanghai as training sets and 2,143 (BD/MDD = 955/1,188) in Hangzhou as test sets. A total of 35 clinical biochemical indexes were tested, including blood cells, immuno-inflammatory factors, liver enzymes, glycemic and lipid parameters, and thyroid and gonadal hormones. A stepwise analysis of a multivariable logistic regression was performed to build a predictive model to identify BD and MDD.ResultsMost of these biochemical indexes showed significant differences between BD and MDD groups, such as white blood cell (WBC) in the hematopoietic system, uric acid (UA) in immuno-inflammatory factors, direct bilirubin (DBIL) in liver function, lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) in enzymes, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in glucolipid metabolism (p-values < 0.05). With these predictors for discrimination, we observed the area under the curve (AUC) of the predictive model to distinguish between BD and MDD to be 0.772 among men and 0.793 among women, with the largest AUC of 0.848 in the luteal phase of women. The χ2 values of internal and external validation for male and female datasets were 2.651/10.264 and 10.873/6.822 (p-values < 0.05), respectively. The AUCs of the test sets were 0.696 for males and 0.707 for females.ConclusionDiscrimination and calibration were satisfactory, with fair-to-good diagnostic accuracy and external calibration capability in the final prediction models. BackgroundTo investigate the clinical efficacy of percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal discectomy (PETD) in the treatment of upper lumbar disc herniation (LDH).MethodsTwenty-two patients, 14 males and 8 females with ages ranging from 23 to 76 years, who had upper LDH and were treated with PETD from April 2015 to April 2020 in the Department of Neurosurgery of Xuanwu Hospital, were selected to evaluate the surgical efficacy by the visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).ResultsAll patients underwent successful completion of PETD surgery. The operation time was 80.4 ± 18.0 min; intraoperative fluoroscopy was used 17.1 ± 8.7 times; and the hospital stay was 3.2 ± 0.6 days. The VAS scores were 7.9 ± 1.2, 2.3 ± 1.5, 2.2 ± 1.3, and 2.1 ± 1.0 before the operation, 1 day and 3 months after the operation, and during the last follow-up, respectively. Abstract Bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) have both common and distinct clinical features, that pose both conceptual challenges in terms of their diagnostic boundaries and practical difficulties in optimizing treatment. Multivariate machine learning techniques offer new avenues for exploring these boundaries based on clinical neuroanatomical features. Brain structural data were obtained at 3 T from a sample of 90 patients with BD, 189 patients with MDD, and 162 healthy individuals. Modular space structure has become a research hotspot in the aerospace field. In the microgravity and weak damping space environment, modular space structures may continuously vibrate due to the transient excitation caused by satellite attitude adjustment or space debris impact, which will make the structure unstable. Therefore, a passive vibration control method based on band gap design is proposed for the modular space structures. Firstly, a modular spectral element model based on the super element is established, and the modular spectral element model is expanded into modular space structures. Then, band gap characteristics of the modular space structure are analyzed and optimized to improve the wave isolation ability. The numerical simulation shows that the elastic wave in the band gap can be effectively isolated and the band gap is significantly improved by optimizing structural parameters.

Abstract Objectives This study aims to explore the reliability, validity, and feasibility of Clinically Useful Depression Outcome Scale (CUDOS) in screening mixed features in patients diagnosed with mania. Methods A total of 109 patients with (hypo‐) manic episode were recruited. The reliability of Chinese version of CUDOS (CUDOS‐C) were analyzed with Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Spearman correlation coefficient was used to analyze the validity by comparing the correlation between CUDOS‐C and Patient Health Questionnaire‐9 (PHQ‐9), 32‐item Hypomania Checklist (HCL‐32). The score of MINI (hypo‐) manic episode with mixed features—DSM‐5 Module—Chinese version(MINI‐M‐C) ≥ 2 was considered as the gold standard of mixed features, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to calculate the optimal cut‐off values of CUDOS‐C score. Proximity labeling employs modified biotin ligases or peroxidases that produce reactive radicals to covalently label proximate proteins with biotin in living cells. The resulting biotinylated proteins can then be isolated and identified. A combination of programmable DNA targeting and proximity labeling that maps proteomic landscape at DNA elements with dCas9-APEX2 has been established in living cells. However, defining interactome at RNA elements has lagged behind. In combination with RNA-targeting CRISPR-Cas13, proximity labeling can also be used to identify proteins that interact with specific RNA elements in living cells. From this viewpoint, we briefly summarize the latest advances in CRISPR-guided proximity labeling in studying RNA–protein interactions, and we propose applying the most recent engineered proximity-labeling enzymes to study RNA-centric interactions in the future.

Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) fiber as a carbon-based fiber sensor has aroused widespread interest in the field of gas sensing. However, the low response value and poor flexibility of the rGO fiber sensor severely limit its application in the field of flexible wearable electronics. In this paper, a flexible and wearable nylon fiber sensor modified by rGO and ZnO quantum dots (QDs) is proposed for wide-range NO2 gas detection at room temperature. The response value of the nylon fiber sensor to 100 ppm NO2 gas is as high as 0.4958, and the response time and recovery time are 216.2 s and 667.9 s, respectively. The relationship between the sensor’s response value and the NO2 concentration value is linear in the range of 20–100 ppm, and the fitting coefficient is 0.998. In addition, the test results show that the sensor also has good repeatability, flexibility, and selectivity. Moreover, an early warning module was also designed and is proposed in this paper to realize the over-limit monitoring of NO2 gas, and the flexible sensor was embedded in a mask, demonstrating its great application potential and value in the field of wearable electronics.

Purpose: This study examines health literacy among older outpatients in two Community Healthcare Service Centers in Shanghai, China to facilitate the design of public education programs for the aged population on mood disorders (both depression and mania).Patients and Methods: A total of 173 outpatients aged 60 years or more with a chronic physical illness were randomly sampled. A health literacy questionnaire was used to assess participants' awareness of depression and mania. Participants were then asked to label two vignettes depicting depression and mania and to give their recommendations for how to seek help for those in the vignettes and how mood disorders should be managed.Results: In all, 86.1 and 36.4% of participants had heard of depression and mania, respectively, with the most common source of information being relatives and friends. Over half of the participants attributed the possible causes of mood disorders to psychological trauma, pressure or stress in daily life, taking things too hard, and personality problems. Almost two-thirds of participants correctly labeled the depression vignette, but only 26.6% correctly labeled the mania vignette. The most common methods recommended by the participants as being helpful for the individuals portrayed in the vignettes were “traveling” and help-seeking from a psychological therapist/counselor, a psychiatrist, or a close family member or friend.Conclusion: The older individuals attending community healthcare service settings in Shanghai have good depression literacy but relatively poor mania literacy. However, most participants had a positive attitude toward psychiatric treatment for mood disorders.

The collaborative planning of a wind-photovoltaic (PV)-energy storage system (ESS) is an effective means to reduce the carbon emission of system operation and improve the efficiency of resource collaborative utilization. In this paper, a wind-PV-ESS collaborative planning strategy considering the morphological evolution of the transmission and distribution network is proposed. Firstly, aiming at the optimal economy of transmission and distribution network and considering the constraints of safe and stable operation of the system, the planning model of the transmission network based on DC power flow and the planning model of the distribution network based on AC power flow are constructed. Further, considering the coupling interaction between the transmission and distribution networks, a collaborative planning model of transmission and distribution networks based on second-order cone relaxation (SOCR) is constructed. Secondly, in order to reduce the computational complexity of the model and ensure the global optimality of the model solution, a fast model solution method based on heterogeneous decomposition architecture is proposed. Thirdly, the multiple driving factors of the morphological evolution of transmission and distribution network are analyzed, the morphological evolution path and typical characteristics of transmission and distribution network are determined, and a wind-PV-ESS collaborative planning strategy considering the morphological evolution of a transmission and distribution network is proposed. Finally, the results show that, compared with the sprouting period, the overall economy of the development period and maturity period is improved by 3342 k$ and 5751 k$ respectively, and the effectiveness and necessity of the collaborative planning strategy proposed in this paper is verified.

PurposeA substantial proportion of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) does not respond or cannot tolerate to currently available treatments. This study was to assess the safety and tolerability of Remote Limb Ischemic Preconditioning (RLIPC) as an adjunctive therapy in patients with MDD.Patients and MethodsEnrolled patients underwent RLIPC, five cycles of simultaneous bilateral arm ischemia, 5 min and followed by reperfusion of each cycle, and once daily for eight consecutive weeks. Depression and anxiety severity, and quality of life were assessed every 2 weeks. Descriptive analysis was used for safety and tolerability data.ResultsThirty-seven participants completed at least one RLIPC. Twenty-four of them (64.9%) completed the study. Twelve patients prematurely discontinued the study due to poor adherence, and one due to a mild side effect. The changes in HRSD-17, GAD-7 and QOL-6 total scores from baseline to the endpoint were significant from the end of second week treatment onwards. The responder and remission rates were 59.46% (22/37) and 54.05% (20/37) at the endpoint, respectively.ConclusionRLIPC was safe and well tolerated, and may be effective in reducing depressive symptoms in patients with MDD. Large studies are warranted to test its efficacy and safety as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in the treatment of MDD.

This paper demonstrates the superlensing effect of flexural waves by phononic plates with the negative index of refraction. The phononic plate consists of a square lattice of spring-mass resonators attached to an infinite thin plate. The periodic resonator array induces a resonant band gap between the first and second dispersion curves of band structures calculating by a plane wave expansion method. All-angle negative refraction phenomenon has been found for a propagation mode under specific elastic parameters of spring-mass resonators. Furthermore, a flat lens composed by a finite number of spring-mass resonators is designed to focus elastic fields of a point-like excitation operating at this propagating mode. Multiple scattering simulations show that the image resolution of the designed flat lens is about 0.15λ, overcoming the Rayleigh diffraction limit of traditional imaging systems.

BackgroundCellulose is the most abundant organic polymer mainly produced by plants in nature. It is insoluble and highly resistant to enzymatic hydrolysis. Cellulolytic microorganisms that are capable of producing a battery of related enzymes play an important role in recycling cellulose-rich plant biomass. Effective cellulose degradation by multiple synergic microorganisms has been observed within a defined microbial consortium in the lab culture. Metagenomic analysis may enable us to understand how microbes cooperate in cellulose degradation in a more complex microbial free-living ecosystem in nature.ResultsHere we investigated a typical cellulose-rich and alkaline niche where constituent microbes survive through inter-genera cooperation in cellulose utilization. The niche has been generated in an ancient paper-making plant, which has served as an isolated habitat for over 7 centuries. Combined amplicon-based sequencing of 16S rRNA genes and metagenomic sequencing, our analyses showed a microbial composition with 6 dominant genera including Cloacibacterium, Paludibacter, Exiguobacterium, Acetivibrio, Tolumonas, and Clostridium in this cellulose-rich niche; the composition is distinct from other cellulose-rich niches including a modern paper mill, bamboo soil, wild giant panda guts, and termite hindguts. In total, 11,676 genes of 96 glucoside hydrolase (GH) families, as well as 1,744 genes of carbohydrate transporters were identified, and modeling analysis of two representative genes suggested that these glucoside hydrolases likely evolved to adapt to alkaline environments. Further reconstruction of the microbial draft genomes by binning the assembled contigs predicted a mutualistic interaction between the dominant microbes regarding the cellulolytic process in the niche, with Paludibacter and Clostridium acting as helpers that produce endoglucanases, and Cloacibacterium, Exiguobacterium, Acetivibrio, and Tolumonas being beneficiaries that cross-feed on the cellodextrins by oligosaccharide uptake.ConclusionThe analysis of the key genes involved in cellulose degradation and reconstruction of the microbial draft genomes by binning the assembled contigs predicted a mutualistic interaction based on public goods regarding the cellulolytic process in the niche, suggesting that in the studied microbial consortium, free-living bacteria likely survive on each other by acquisition and exchange of metabolites. Knowledge gained from this study will facilitate the design of complex microbial communities with a better performance in industrial bioprocesses.

BACKGROUND:Subsyndromal symptomatic depression (SSD) is a subtype of subthreshold depressive and can lead to significant psychosocial functional impairment. Although the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD) and SSD still remains poorly understood, a set of studies have found that many same genetic factors play important roles in the etiology of these two disorders. Nowadays, the differential gene expression between MDD and SSD is still unknown. In our previous study, we compared the expression profile and made the classification with the leukocytes by using whole-genome cRNA microarrays among drug-free first-episode subjects with SSD, MDD and matched healthy controls (8 subjects in each group), and finally determined 48 gene expression signatures. Based on these findings, we further clarify whether these genes mRNA was different expressed in peripheral blood in patients with SSD, MDD and healthy controls (60 subjects respectively). METHOD:With the help of the quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), we gained gene relative expression levels among the three groups. RESULTS:We found that there are three of the forty eight co-regulated genes had differential expression in peripheral blood among the three groups, which are CD84, STRN, CTNS gene (F = 3.528, p = 0.034; F = 3.382, p = 0.039; F = 3.801, p = 0.026, respectively) while there were no significant differences for other genes. CONCLUSION:CD84, STRN, CTNS gene may have significant value for performing diagnostic functions and classifying SSD, MDD and healthy controls.

This brief commentary considers the potential for new directions in intelligence research, as well as possible pitfalls associated with these approaches. Specifically, this commentary focuses on the use of big data in intelligence research, the study of genes and gene-environment interactions, the interpretation of neuroscience evidence, and the effectiveness of intelligence interventions. The major pitfalls identified include methodological and data analytic limitations, as well as concerns regarding the communication of findings to other scientists and the lay public.

Dynamical properties of branched polymer melts are determined by the polymer molecular weights and architectures containing junction points. Relaxation of entangled symmetric star polymers proceeds via arm-retraction and constraint release (CR). In this work, we investigate arm-retraction dynamics in the framework of a single-chain slip-spring model without CR effect where entanglements are treated as binary contacts, conveniently modeled as virtual “slip-links”, each involving two neighboring strands. The model systems are analogous to isolated star polymers confined in a permanent network or a melt of very long linear polymers. We find that the distributions of the effective primitive path lengths are Gaussian, from which the entanglement molecular weight N e , a key tube theory parameter, can be extracted. The procured N e value is in good agreement with that obtained from mapping the middle monomer mean-square displacements of entangled linear chains in slip-spring model to the tube model prediction. Furthermore, the mean first-passage (FP) times of destruction of original tube segments by the retracting arm end are collected in simulations and examined quantitatively using a theory recently developed in our group for describing FP problems of one-dimensional Rouse chains with improbable extensions. The asymptotic values of N e as obtained from the static (primitive path length) and dynamical (FP time) analysis are consistent with each other. Additionally, we manage to determine the tube survival function of star arms μ ( t ) , or equivalently arm end-to-end vector relaxation function ϕ ( t ) , through the mean FP time spectrum τ ( s ) of the tube segments after careful consideration of the inner-most entanglements, which shows reasonably good agreement with experimental data on dielectric relaxation.

The application and technological development of geosynchronous orbit(GSO) small satellite are researched in this paper. Firstly the application field and application value of GSO small satellites are analysed. Secondly, the technology development status of foreign GSO small satellites is overviewed. Then the differences and similarities among GSO small satellite, traditional large satellite and low earth orbit(LEO) small satellite are compared, and characteristic and key technique are systematically studied. Finally, for China’s future military and civilian needs, combined with the development trend of modern small satellite technology, the preliminary proposal for the development of China’s GSO small satellite are given.

With the recent attention to the importance of evidence-based medicine in psychiatry, a number of treatment guidelines have been published. This survey investigated prescribing pattern and predictors for guideline disconcordance in the acute treatment of bipolar depression across mainland China. Pharmacological treatments of 1078 patients with bipolar depression were examined. Guidelines disconcordance was determined by comparing the medication(s) patients were prescribed with the recommendation(s) in the guidelines of the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments. Predictors for guidelines discordance were analyzed with logistic regression. Of the 1078 patients, 50.2% patients were treated against treatment guidelines recommendations. The patients who were treated in general hospitals (OR = 1.53, 95% CI 1.18-1.97), with a depressive episode (OR = 1.67, 95% CI 1.27-2.19) and an older age at first onset (OR = 1.62, 95% CI 1.15-2.28) were more likely to receive guideline-disconcordant treatment than their counterparts. In contrast, the patients with current mental comorbidity, an older age at study entry, a longer duration of disease, and more frequent episodes in past year were less likely to receive guideline-disconcordant treatments than their counterparts with an OR of 0.43 (95% CI 0.24-0.77), 0.52 (95CI% 0.36-0.75), 0.48 (95% CI 0.36-0.65), and 0.50 (95% CI 0.38-0.64), respectively. Our finding suggested the disconcordance with treatment guidelines in patients with an acute bipolar depression is common under naturalistic conditions in mainland China, and the predicting factors correlated with guidelines disconcordance include both psychiatrist-specific (clinicians from general hospitals) and patient-specific features (a depressive episode at first onset, no current co-morbidity with mental disorders, a younger age at study entry, an older age at first onset, shorter duration of disease, and non-frequent episodes in past year).

The aim of this paper is to study the effects of laser peening (LP) on the residual stress distribution and microstructure evolution of AA 6061-T6 under different temperatures. A laser peening experiment was conducted on the square-shape samples by using single spot and 50% overlap shock. Three-dimensional surface morphologies of treated samples were observed. The influence of peening temperature on the distribution of compressive residual stress was analyzed. An optical microscope (OM) and a transmission electron microscope (TEM) were employed to observe the microstructure evolution of the samples before and after LP. The results indicate that, as the peening temperature increases, the micro-hardness increases first and then decreases. The LP process induces high-amplitude compressive residual stress on the surface at different temperatures even if the compressive residual stress slightly reduces with increases in temperature. The maximum compressive residual stress affected layer depth is about 0.67 mm, appearing at a temperature of 160 °C. The OM test revealed that the grain size was significantly decreased after warm laser peening (WLP) and that the average value of grain size was reduced by 50%. The TEM test shows that more dislocation tangles were produced in AA 6061-T6 after WLP; compared to the LP process, the precipitate-dislocation interaction can benefit both strength and ductility for AA 6061-T6, thus enhancing the mechanical properties of the material.

Several studies have suggested that SSD is a transitory phenomena in the depression spectrum and is thus considered a subtype of depression. However, the pathophysioloy of depression remain largely obscure and studies on SSD are limited. The present study compared the expression profile and made the classification with the leukocytes by using whole-genome cRNA microarrays among drug-free first-episode subjects with SSD, MDD, and matched controls (8 subjects in each group). Support vector machines (SVMs) were utilized for training and testing on candidate signature expression profiles from signature selection step. Firstly, we identified 63 differentially expressed SSD signatures in contrast to control (P< = 5.0E-4) and 30 differentially expressed MDD signatures in contrast to control, respectively. Then, 123 gene signatures were identified with significantly differential expression level between SSD and MDD. Secondly, in order to conduct priority selection for biomarkers for SSD and MDD together, we selected top gene signatures from each group of pair-wise comparison results, and merged the signatures together to generate better profiles used for clearly classify SSD and MDD sets in the same time. In details, we tried different combination of signatures from the three pair-wise compartmental results and finally determined 48 gene expression signatures with 100% accuracy. Our finding suggested that SSD and MDD did not exhibit the same expressed genome signature with peripheral blood leukocyte, and blood cell-derived RNA of these 48 gene models may have significant value for performing diagnostic functions and classifying SSD, MDD, and healthy controls.

Smart polymer materials that are nonliving yet exhibit complex "life-like" or biomimetic behaviors have been the focus of intensive research over the past decades, in the quest to broaden our understanding of how living systems function under nonequilibrium conditions. Identification of how chemical and mechanical coupling can generate resonance and entrainment with other cells or external environment is an important research question. We prepared Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) selfoscillating hydrogels which convert chemical energy to mechanical oscillation. By cyclically applying external mechanical stimulation to the BZ hydrogels, we found that when the oscillation of a gel sample entered into harmonic resonance with the applied oscillation during stimulation, the system kept a "memory" of the resonant oscillation period and maintained it post stimulation, demonstrating an entrainment effect. More surprisingly, by systematically varying the cycle length of the external stimulation, we revealed the discrete nature of the stimulation-induced resonance and entrainment behaviors in chemical oscillations of BZ hydrogels, i.e., the hydrogels slow down their oscillation periods to the harmonics of the cycle length of the external mechanical stimulation. Our theoretical model calculations suggest the important roles of the delayed mechanical response caused by reactant diffusion and solvent migration in affecting the chemomechanical coupling in active hydrogels and consequently synchronizing their chemical oscillations with external mechanical oscillations.
