7. Failure Behavior and Surrounding Soil Stress Responses of Suction Anchor in Low-Strength Muddy Clay.

Abstract

Anchorage failure of a suction anchor is more likely to occur in low-strength muddy clay. This paper focuses on the failure behaviors of suction anchors and muddy clay stress responses. The centrifugal model test was used to study the loading processes of suction anchors with various pulling angles. Firstly, the multi-stage developing process of anchoring force was analyzed according to the test results. Numerical modeling was used to validate the test results. The displacement of the suction anchor and muddy clay soil were analyzed using the numerical results. Then, the numerical and testing results were compared to analyze the horizontal soil pressure responses around the suction anchors. It was found that the change in loading direction affected the distribution and development of soil stress. The horizontal soil resistance played a crucial role in improving the bearing capacity. The soil stress variation and anchor displacement revealed that the suction anchors exhibited multi-attitude coupling movement during the inclined pulling. The vertical pulling suction anchor showed shear–slip failure behaviors, while the inclined pulling suction anchors showed compression–shear–slip coupling failure behaviors. The results of this study provide insight into the interaction mechanism between suction anchors and muddy clay, serving as a reference for the design and application of suction anchors. Abstract

Based on National Engineering Laboratory for Harbor Engineering Structure-Geotechnical Centrifuge Laboratory construction project, the dynamical response of piles foundation under horizontal-rocking vibration was analyzed by using finite element software Abaqus, and the displacement and stress characteristics of piles were discussed with soil between the piles reinforced by high pressure jet piles. The result indicates that in the operation of the centrifuge, foundation changes of vertical load of center pile are very small; the vertical displacement of the pile head is increasing, the vertical displacement of the pile head is no longer changed until the vibration time reaches 3 times period,; the horizontal load of piles varies with sinusoidal, the horizontal displacement amplitude is increasing, , and the vibration amplitude reaches to fixed value at 2 times vibration period.

13. Study on the influence of bank slope soil deformation on wharf structure

Abstract

After a large-scale construction period, there are a large number of old high piled wharfs in China’s ports. The pile cap piles and beam members of some wharfs close to the earth retaining structure appear obvious dislocation, and some of them are increasing year by year. In this paper, the typical section of Tianjin Port 16 ∼ 18 wharf is taken as the research object, and a three-dimensional mathematical model is established to simulate the deformation trend of wharf structure with bank slope soil under unbalanced load condition. The results show that the pile cap plays a positive role in the stability of the wharf slope. Partial load can cause the deformation of soil along the bank. The horizontal earth pressure acting on several rows of piles behind the pile cap is large, which leads to large deformation and internal force of the pile body. When the force between the pile top and the beam exceeds the lap strength between them, the pile top and beam will be staggered. The fundamental method to avoid or improve the seaward movement of high piled wharf and bank slope is to block or reduce the horizontal earth pressure from the rear storage area to the front. The scheme of sheet pile wall or bored pile can be selected according to the actual situation.

Abstract

Transparent media and particle image velocimetry (PIV) approaches were employed to measure the buckling deformation of fully embedded model piles and the consequent soil deformation under different constraints in a nonintrusive manner. Transparent media (also called transparent soils) are made of fused quartz and a pore solution, the refractive index of which is matched with that of fused quartz. A laser light sheet was employed to irradiate the transport soil and capture digital images of the buckling deformation of the model piles, and PIV was used to obtain the deformation of pile foundation and soil mass. The results show that the effect of the constraint mode at the pile tip on the buckling curve depends on the change in pile strength and slenderness ratio, the movement of soil on both sides of the maximum buckling point fits Rankine’s earth pressure theory, and compared with single-pile buckling, the buckling deformation curve of multiple piles shows an elevated maximum deflection point.
