In this paper, the wool carding machine of British TATHAM and the wool carding machine of Japan KY80 inches were compared according to the properties of cashmere yarn, such as yarn strength and elongation, yarn evenness, yarn hairiness firstly, showing proper selecting of wool carding machine having a greater influence on the cashmere yarn quality, and the quality of cashmere yarn based on the wool carding machine of British TATHAM being superior to that based on the wool carding machine of Japan KY80 inches. Then, the influence of plied yarn twist, doubling tension and thread number on the properties of cashmere plied yarn, such as yarn strength and elongation, yarn evenness, yarn hairiness, was analyzed based on the wool carding machine of British TATHAM, and corresponding affecting rule was got, which was useful for guiding the establishing manufacture process of cashmere yarn and improving its product property for wool spinning enterprises. Negative pressure plays a very important role in compact spinning system. To know airflow field and its distribution is helpful to look into the condensing principle of fiber bundle. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software was used to simulate airflow field in this paper. Airflow velocity distributions both in different fiber layers and under different negative pressures were discussed. The results indicate that airflow velocity in upper layer of the fiber bundle is greater than that in lower layer. Airflow velocities in both X and Y axis directions have a positive correlation with negative pressure. It can provide a theoretical base to make high quality compact yarns in productive practice. The compact spinning with pneumatic groove utilizes transverse air force and mechanical force of the pneumatic groove to condense fiber bundles to eliminate the spinning triangle. Range analysis and variance analysis of orthogonal experiment were used to discover both important and general factors that influence the condensing effect of the compact yarn including negative pressure, traveler, roving moisture regain, and spinning tension. Results from this research have confirmed that the spinning tension is the most important factor affecting the condensing effect and the yarn quality; the negative pressure, traveler, and roving moisture regain are general factors. The optimal combination for producing least yarn hairiness, A3 B2 C1 D1, is acquired, where the value of negative pressure A is - 3. 0 kPa, roving moisture regain B is 7. 64 %, traveler C is 20 # ( yarn tex 20.8), and spinning tension D is 25 cN.
