The fusion of infrared and visible images produces a complementary image that captures both infrared radiation information and visible texture structure details using the respective sensors. However, the current deep-learning-based fusion approaches mainly tend to prioritize visual quality and statistical metrics, leading to an increased model complexity and weight parameter sizes. To address these challenges, we propose a novel dual-light fusion approach using adaptive DenseNet with knowledge distillation to learn and compress from pre-existing fusion models, which achieves the goals of model compression through the use of hyperparameters such as the width and depth of the model network. The effectiveness of our proposed approach is evaluated on a new dataset comprising three public datasets (MSRS, M3FD, and LLVIP), and both qualitative and quantitative experimental results show that the distillated adaptive DenseNet model effectively matches the original fusion models’ performance with smaller model weight parameters and shorter inference times.

The laboratory generation and diagnosis of uniform near-critical-density (NCD) plasmas play critical roles in various studies and applications, such as fusion science, high energy density physics, astrophysics as well as relativistic electron beam generation. Here we successfully generated the quasistatic NCD plasma sample by heating a low-density tri-cellulose acetate (TCA) foam with the high-power-laser-driven hohlraum radiation. The temperature of the hohlraum is determined to be 20 eV by analyzing the spectra obtained with the transmission grating spectrometer. The single-order diffraction grating was employed to eliminate the high-order disturbance. The temperature of the heated foam is determined to be T = 16.8 ± 1.1 eV by analyzing the high-resolution spectra obtained with a flat-field grating spectrometer. The electron density of the heated foam is about N e = 4.0 ± 0.3 × 10 20 cm − 3 under the reasonable assumption of constant mass density.

Dielectric laser accelerator (DLA) is a promising technology for achieving high gradient acceleration in a compact design. Its advantages include ease of cascading and energy gain per unit distance that can exceed that of conventional accelerators by two orders of magnitude. This paper establishes rules for efficient particle acceleration using dielectric structures based on basic equations, proposes a design principle for DLA structures with clear physical images, and verifies the accuracy of the corresponding energy gain formula. DLA structures with different specifications, materials, and geometric shapes are constructed, and the achievable acceleration gradient is calculated. Our results demonstrate that effective acceleration can be achieved when the electric field sensed by particles in the acceleration cavity has zero frequency, which provides a powerful method for designing such devices. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the simplified formula for calculating energy gain presented in this paper can accurately determine the energy gain of particles during the design of dielectric accelerator acceleration structures.

We report on charge state measurements of laser-accelerated carbon ions in the energy range of several MeV penetrating a dense partially ionized plasma. The plasma was generated by irradiation of a foam target with laser-induced hohlraum radiation in the soft X-ray regime. We used the tri-cellulose acetate (C$_{9}$H$_{16}$O$_{8}$) foam of 2 mg/cm$^{-3}$ density, and $1$-mm interaction length as target material. This kind of plasma is advantageous for high-precision measurements, due to good uniformity and long lifetime compared to the ion pulse length and the interaction duration. The plasma parameters were diagnosed to be T$_{e}$=17 eV and n$_{e}$=4 $\times$ 10$^{20}$ cm$^{-3}$. The average charge states passing through the plasma were observed to be higher than those predicted by the commonly-used semiempirical formula. Through solving the rate equations, we attribute the enhancement to the target density effects which will increase the ionization rates on one hand and reduce the electron capture rates on the other hand. In previsous measurement with partially ionized plasma from gas discharge and z-pinch to laser direct irradiation, no target density effects were ever demonstrated. For the first time, we were able to experimentally prove that target density effects start to play a significant role in plasma near the critical density of Nd-Glass laser radiation. Gliomas are a group of primary intracranial tumors with high morbidity and mortality. The previous researches indicated a crucial role of CKS2 (cyclin-dependent kinases regulatory subunit 2) in hepatocellular carcinoma and breast cancer; however, little is known about the molecular mechanism of CKS2 in the tumorigenesis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition-like (EMT) process in glioma.Datasets for bioinformatics analysis were obtained from the GEO, TCGA and CGGA databases. qRT-PCR, western blotting (WB), and immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays were used to investigate the expression patterns of CKS2 among glioma and brain tissues. Glioma cells were transfected with small interfering RNA/overexpression plasmid against CKS2, then clone formation assay, CCK-8, wound healing, Transwell assay, and flow cytometry were performed to detect changes in cell viability, invasiveness, and the apoptosis rate. Markers of cell invasion, apoptosis, EMT and TGFβ/SMAD signaling were evaluated by WB and immunofluorescence (IF) assays.We found that CKS2 overexpression correlates with poor prognosis in human glioma and knockdown of CKS2 could inhibit cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and induced apoptosis in glioma cells. Besides, we also found that knockdown of CKS2 could reverse the EMT process via modulating EMT-related molecules. Glioma cells with overexpression of CKS2 were constructed to confirmed the fact that CKS2 induced nucleocytoplasmic translocation of SMAD2/3 and activated TGFβ/SMAD pathway, then upregulated its downstream targets expression, while inhibition of TGFβ/SMAD (by TGFβ inhibitor LY2157299 or SMAD4 siRNA) could reverse the tumor-promoting effects and malignant phenotype caused by CKS2 overexpression.We identified CKS2 as a critical contributor to the gliomagenesis, which might provide a novel therapeutic target for inhibiting the spread and infiltration of glioma.

A rapid, on-site, and accurate SARS-CoV-2 detection method is crucial for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic. However, such an ideal screening technology has not yet been developed for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2. Here, we have developed a deep learning-based surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy technique for the sensitive, rapid, and on-site detection of the SARS-CoV-2 antigen in the throat swabs or sputum from 30 confirmed COVID-19 patients. A Raman database based on the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 was established from experiments and theoretical calculations. The corresponding biochemical foundation for this method is also discussed. The deep learning model could predict the SARS-CoV-2 antigen with an identification accuracy of 87.7%. These results suggested that this method has great potential for the diagnosis, monitoring, and control of SARS-CoV-2 worldwide.

Radioisotopes are indispensable agents in medical diagnosis and treatment, among which copper-62, 64 (62,64Cu) and gallium-68 (68Ga) are medical isotopes widely used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Experiments that generate these radioisotopes via laser-induced photonuclear reactions were performed on the XingGuangIII laser facility of the Laser Fusion Research Center in Mianyang. High-charge ( Q e ∼ 40 nC) MeV electron (e− ) beams were generated with 100 terawatts, picosecond laser pulses. The e− beams were then impinged on a metal stack composed of Ta foil and activation plates (natural Cu and Ga2O3), producing high-energy bremsstrahlung x-rays and medical isotopes 62,64Cu and 68Ga, respectively. The characteristic emissions of the produced 62,64Cu and 68Ga were detected off-line , and the production yields of 62,64Cu and 68Ga were obtained to be of the order of 106 per laser shot. For electrons with energy higher than 8 MeV, the dependence of isotope production efficiency (per e− ) on electron temperature ( T e ) is investigated through Geant4 simulations. It is found that the production efficiency increases with the T e . At T e ∼ 10 MeV, the values are 10−4 for 62Cu and 2 × 10 − 5 for 68Ga, respectively. The prospect of producing the medical isotopes 62,64Cu and 68Ga are further evaluated using a table-top femtosecond laser system of high repetition. With a repetition rate of 100 Hz, their activity is expected to reach 0.2 GBq for 62Cu, 0.1 GBq for 64Cu and 0.05 GBq for 68Ga, respectively. Such activity would meet the required dose for clinical PET imaging, indicating the great potential to produce medical isotopes with an all-optical, high-repetition laser system.

Intense particle beams generated from the interaction of ultrahigh intensity lasers with sample foils provide options in radiography, high-yield neutron sources, high-energy-density-matter generation, and ion fast ignition. An accurate understanding of beam transportation behavior in dense matter is crucial for all these applications. Here we report the experimental evidence on one order of magnitude enhancement of intense laser-accelerated proton beam stopping in dense ionized matter, in comparison with the current-widely used models describing individual ion stopping in matter. Supported by particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, we attribute the enhancement to the strong decelerating electric field approaching 1 GV/m that can be created by the beam-driven return current. This collective effect plays the dominant role in the stopping of laser-accelerated intense proton beams in dense ionized matter. This finding is essential for the optimum design of ion driven fast ignition and inertial confinement fusion., A detailed understanding of particle stopping in matter is essential for nuclear fusion and high energy density science. Here, the authors report one order of magnitude enhancement of intense laser-accelerated proton beam stopping in dense ionized matter in comparison with currently used models describing ion stopping in matter.

The Gamma-Ray Integrated Detectors (GRID) is a space mission concept dedicated to monitoring the transient gamma-ray sky in the energy range from 10 keV to 2 MeV using scintillation detectors onboard CubeSats in low Earth orbits. The primary targets of GRID are the gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) in the local universe. The scientific goal of GRID is, in synergy with ground-based gravitational wave (GW) detectors such as LIGO and VIRGO, to accumulate a sample of GRBs associated with the merger of two compact stars and study jets and related physics of those objects. It also involves observing and studying other gamma-ray transients such as long GRBs, soft gamma-ray repeaters, terrestrial gamma-ray flashes, and solar flares. With multiple CubeSats in various orbits, GRID is unaffected by the Earth occultation and serves as a full-time and all-sky monitor. Assuming a horizon of 200 Mpc for ground-based GW detectors, we expect to see a few associated GW-GRB events per year. With about 10 CubeSats in operation, GRID is capable of localizing a faint GRB like 170817A with a 90% error radius of about 10 degrees, through triangulation and flux modulation. GRID is proposed and developed by students, with considerable contribution from undergraduate students, and will remain operated as a student project in the future. The current GRID collaboration involves more than 20 institutes and keeps growing. The spectrum of laser-plasma generated X-rays is very important, it characterizes electron dynamics in plasma and is basic for applications. However, the accuracies and efficiencies of existing methods to diagnose the spectrum of laser-plasma based X-ray pulse are not very high, especially in the range of several hundred keV. In this study, a new method based on electron tracks detection to measure the spectrum of laser-plasma produced X-ray pulses is proposed and demonstrated. Laser-plasma generated X-rays are scattered in a multi-pixel silicon tracker. Energies and scattering directions of Compton electrons can be extracted from the response of the detector, and then the spectrum of X-rays can be reconstructed. Simulations indicate that the energy resolution of this method is approximately 20% for X-rays from 200 to 550 keV for a silicon-on-insulator pixel detector with 12 $\rm \mu$m pixel pitch and 500 $\rm \mu$m depletion region thickness. The hybrid pixel detector Timepix3 allows the measurement of the time and energy deposition of an event simultaneously in each 55 $\mu$m pixel, which makes Timepix3 a promising approach for a compact Compton camera. However, the angular resolution of Compton camera based on this kind of detector with high pixel density is usually degraded in imaging of MeV gamma-ray sources, because the diffusion of energetic Compton electron or photoelectron could trigger many pixels and lead to an inaccurate measurement of interaction position. In this study, an electron track algorithm is used to reconstruct the electron track and determine the interaction point. An demonstrative experiment was carried out, showing that the effect of this algorithm was significant. The origin and characteristics of near-microcoulomb multi-MeV electrons accelerated by short pulse lasers interacting with near-critical density plasma in self-formed channels are studied using three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. According to the analysis on interaction phenomena and electron dynamics, the dominant mechanism turns out to be direct laser acceleration, which ensures the outstanding energy coupling. Additionally, self-channeling is found to be a decisive factor for the acceleration performance, as electrons obtain ultra-high energy through betatron resonance inside the channels. In our findings, by using a relativistic short laser pulse and near-critical plasma, a large amount of energetic electrons can be generated, presenting a promising and accessible route to ultraintense, high-spatial-resolution radiation pulses.

We investigate a novel scheme for brilliant attosecond γ-ray emission and high-yield positron production, which is accomplished with an ultra-intense laser pulse incident upon a Nano-Micro-array (NMA) with a substrate incorporated. This scheme is able to realize effectively electron acceleration and colliding geometry. Both the γ-ray flash and positron bunch are, then, generated with high conversion efficiency. At a laser intensity of 8 × 1023 W/cm2, ∼27% of the laser energy is transferred successfully into γ-rays and ∼0.7% of the laser energy into the positrons. As a consequence, ultra-short (∼440 as) and ultra-brilliant (∼1024 photons s−1 mm−2 mrad−2 per 0.1%BW at 15 MeV) γ-ray burst and high-yield (1.48 × 1011) and overdense (∼1022 cm−3) positron bunches are generated. We found a sub-linear scaling of laser-to-photon conversion efficiency ( ∝ I 0 0.75) and a superlinear scaling of laser-to-positron conversion efficiency ( ∝ I 0 2.5) with the laser intensity. Multi-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations show that particle (γ photon and positron) generation can be manipulated by the laser-focusing position and NMA's length and spacing. Optimal conditions for particle generation in NMAs are obtained, indicating that microwire arrays have the advantage over nanowire arrays in particle generation in the extreme laser fields. Furthermore, positron annihilation effects in the high-energy-density (HED) environment are discussed. The scheme using NMAs would provide effective avenues toward investigating attosecond nuclear science and HED physics with the coming 10 PW laser facilities.

Recently generation of strong magnetic (B) fields has been demonstrated in capacitor coils heated by high power laser pulses [S. Fujioka et al., Sci. Rep. 3, 1170 (2013)]. This paper will present a direct measurement of B field generated with an open-ended coil target driven by a nanosecond laser pulse using ultrafast proton radiography. The radiographs are analyzed with particle-tracing simulations. The B field at the coil center is inferred to be ∼50 T at an irradiance of ∼5 × 1014 W·cm−2. The B field generation is attributed to the background cold electron flow pointing to the laser focal spot, where a target potential is induced due to the escape of energetic electrons. The transport of sub-picosecond laser-driven fast electrons in nanopore array targets is studied. Attributed to the generation of micro-structured magnetic fields, most fast electron beams are proven to be effectively guided and restricted during the propagation. Different transport patterns of fast electrons in the targets are observed in experiments and reproduced by particle-in-cell simulations, representing two components: initially collimated low-energy electrons in the center and high-energy scattering electrons turning into surrounding annular beams. The critical energy for confined electrons is deduced theoretically. The electron guidance and confinement by the nano-structured targets offer a technological approach to manipulate and optimize the fast electron transport by properly modulating pulse parameters and target design, showing great potential in many applications including ion acceleration, microfocus x-ray sources and inertial confinement fusion.

High-energy-density physics (HEDP) deals with the study of matter under extreme conditions with an energy density higher than 1011 J/m3, corresponding to a pressure of 100 GPa. Such matter exists in abundance in deep interiors of the planets and stars. It also exists for a short duration during nuclear explosion and the loading of high-power-pulsed machines. HEDP is the international frontier of national security, astrophysics and fusion science, and it is also one of the main scientific goals of the high-power laser-facilities, Z-machines and heavy-ion-accelerators. Herein, the HEDP research based on High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), which is the “12th Five-Year Plan” national major science and technology infrastructure, will be introduced. The HIAF is advocated to provide the world with a heavy-ion beam with utmost high power. The energy and power of one beam pulse is about 100 J and several TW, respectively. With such a high-power heavy-ion beam, heating a solid-state lead sample, for example, could generate homogenous high-energy-density matter with a spatial scale from mm to cm and a temperature of 10 eV, near-solid density, and energy density of 1013 J/m3. Thus, through the HIAF, the generation, properties and evolution of high-energy-density matter can be investigated. This paper also reports the state of the art in the field of HEDP based on HIAF, including the generation and development of high-energy-density matter driven by a high-intensity heavy-ion beam, micro mechanism of interaction between the ion beam and dense matter or plasma, and key diagnostics of the high-energy-density matter driven by a hevy-ion beam.

The increasingly demand for machining accuracy and product quality excites a great interest in high-resolution non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, but spatial resolution of conventional high-energy computed tomography (CT) is limited to sub-millimeter because of large X-ray spot size. Therefore, we propose a novel high-resolution high-energy CT based on laser-driven X-ray source and prove its feasibility to allow high-spatial-resolution tomographic imaging of dense objects. A numerical model is developed with a consideration of realistic factors including parameter fluctuations, statistical noise and detecting efficiency. By using modulation transfer functions, the system performance is quantitatively characterized and optimized in terms of source characteristics, detector aperture, geometrical configuration and projection parameters. As a result, the simulated tomography for a high-density object (up to 19.35g/cm3) achieves a basic spatial resolution of 64.9{\mu}m. This concept expands the prospects of laser-based compact X-ray sources and shows a great potential to achieve high-perspectivity micro-CT imaging for various industrial applications., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures

Ultraintense laser driven fast electrons play an increasingly important role in many applications. To predict and optimize the fast electron transport efficiency, we introduce a one-dimensional analytical model including resistive effects to estimate the transport efficiency as a function of transport distance and a key parameter named the penetration path. Based on the model, the transport efficiency of fast electrons with the same penetration coefficient can be calculated for different characteristic parameters including the target thickness and laser intensity. A double-layer Kα fluorescence measurement of fast electron transport efficiency is proposed to eliminate the influence of in-target electrons refluxing from the relative Kα photon yield of the rear and front sides of the target. By fixing the transport distance, we have experimentally measured the penetration path and the efficiency of planar Al2O3 targets, in good accordance with Monte Carlo simulations. The results show that the beam energy can be reduced to 25% in a penetration path of tens of microns. This measurement method provides a feasible route to characterize and compare the fast electron transport in various targets and laser conditions, making it possible to modulate and optimize the transport efficiency in actual research studies, which is of great significance in fast ignition, X-ray emission, positron–electron pair production, and many other applications.Ultraintense laser driven fast electrons play an increasingly important role in many applications. To further understand proton acceleration driven by the interaction between ultra-intense laser pulse and foil targets, the influence of proton beam Coulomb explosion has been analyzed theoretically and investigated using two-dimensional particle-in-cell (2D-PIC) simulations. Employing different proton layer sizes in the simulations, it is found that proton beam Coulomb explosion plays an important role on proton acceleration, in particular on proton cut off energy. Proton dynamics including the effect of both sheath field and proton beam Coulomb explosion was proposed and discussed in detail. This work may serve to improve the understanding of proton acceleration driven by intense laser-foil interactions.

The photodecomposition of solid 2,2′,4,4′,6,6′-hexanitrostillbene (HNS) at 532 nm, induced by a 10-nanosecond (ns) laser, is investigated by an elaborately designed in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (I-XPS) experiment and steady-state Fourier transform IR (FTIR) spectroscopies. Numerical integration of the two-dimensional heat conduction equation indicates that the irradiated sample volume is effectively heated and photothermal decomposition takes place. Agreement of results between the I-XPS and FTIR suggests that the nitro-nitrite (NO 2 -ONO) isomerization is a main decomposition pathway for HNS.

We investigate the influence of the initial size of the proton layer on proton acceleration in the interaction of high intensity laser pulses with double-layer targets by using two-dimensional particle-in-cell code. We discuss the influence of proton layer initial sizes on the cut-off energy, energy spread, and divergence angle of proton beam. It is found that Coulomb explosion plays an important role on the proton cut-off energy. This causes the cut-off energy to increase for increasing proton layer thickness, at the expense of energy spread. The proton divergence angle reaches a peak value and then falls again with increasing the width. Proton divergence angle grows with target thickness. It is found that there is an optimal thickness to obtain the narrowest energy spread, which may provide an effective method (change the size of proton layer) to obtain high quality proton beams. This work may serve to improve the understanding of sheath field proton acceleration.

The laser-driven acceleration of proton beams from a double-layer cone target, comprised of a cone shaped high-Z material target with a low density proton layer, is investigated via two-dimensional fully relativistic electro-magnetic particle-in-cell simulations. The dependence of the inside diameter (ID) of the tip size of a double-layer cone target on proton beam characteristics is demonstrated. Our results show that the peak energy of proton beams significantly increases and the divergence angle decreases with decreasing ID size. This can be explained by the combined effects of a stronger laser field that is focused inside the cone target and a larger laser interaction area by reducing the ID size.

SUMMARYThe environmental concern about diffuse pollution from nitrogen (N) fertilizers has led to increased research on the diagnosis of crop N status. The SPAD chlorophyll (Chl) meter is the most commonly used tool for rice (Oryza sativa L.) N status diagnosis, but measurements are conducted at a specific point and readings are affected by different leaf positions. Many measurements per plant must be taken in order to increase the accuracy of N status diagnosis, which limits its application. The present paper attempts to determine rice N status at the canopy level using Multiplex®, a new hand-held optical fluorescence sensor. The fluorescence emission of rice leaves under light excitation was utilized by Multiplex® to non-destructively assess rice leaf Chl and phenolic compound content. A field experiment was conducted in 2011 using a completely randomized split-plot design, with main-plot treatments being six N fertilizer application rates and subplot treatments being different plant densities. Leaf Chl and phenolic compounds were evaluated using the ratio of far-red fluorescence (FRF) to red fluorescence (RF) emission under red light excitation (simple fluorescence ratio, SFR_R) (R2 = 0·35, P R2 = 0·30, P R2 > 0·70 in most cases, P ® can be used as an alternative to SPAD to determine rice N status in paddy fields.

In this paper, we propose a proton point source by the interaction of laser and cone-top-end target and investigate it by two-dimensional particle-in-cell (2D-PIC) simulations as the proton point sources are well known for higher spatial resolution of proton radiography. Our results show that the relativistic electrons are guided to the rear of the cone-top-end target by the electrostatic charge-separation field and self-generated magnetic field along the profile of the target. As a result, the peak magnitude of sheath field at the rear surface of cone-top-end target is higher compared to common cone target. We test this scheme by 2D-PIC simulation and find the result has a diameter of 0.79 λ 0 , an average energy of 9.1 MeV and energy spread less than 35%.

An advanced cone-nanolayer target with nanolayers on both inside and outside of the hollow-cone tip is proposed. Two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations show that laser interaction with such cone-nanolayer targets can efficiently produce fast electron beams with manageable spotsize, and the beams can propagate for a relatively long distance in the vacuum beyond the cone tip.

Laser plasma experiments, which demonstrated the single order diffraction property of spectroscopic photon sieve (a novel single-order diffraction grating), were performed on the SILEX-I femto-second laser facility. High-intensity laser radiation was focused onto a Cu target to generate plasma. The spectra of soft X-ray from copper plasmas have been measured with spectroscopic photon sieve based spectrograph. The results show that the spectroscopic photon sieve is able to provide soft X-ray spectrum free from higher-order diffraction components. The measured spectra obtained with such a spectroscopic photon sieve need no unfolding process to extract higher-order diffraction interference.

In order to improve the total laser-proton energy conversion efficiency, a nanobrush target is proposed for proton acceleration and investigated by two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulation. The simulation results show that the nanobrush target significantly enhances the energy and number of hot electrons through the target rear side. Compared with plain target, the sheath field on the rear surface is increased near 100% and the total laser-proton energy conversion efficiency is prompted more than 70%. Furthermore, the proton divergence angle is less than 30° by using nanobrush target. The proposed target may serve as a new method to increase the energy conversion efficiency from laser to protons.

An electron beam is obtained using laser wakefield electron accelerator, and converted into a γ-ray source after undergoing bremsstrahlung radiation in a dense material. A quasi-monoenergetic structure is observed when the length of the plasma channel was modified. The structure has a 58-MeV peak energy, 15-mrad (full-width at half-maximum) divergence angle, and 340-pC charge. The γ-ray source generated by this high-quality electron beam is brighter and has higher spatial and temporal resolutions than other conventional sources. A γ-ray radiography demonstrational experiment is performed. Pictures of a ball with different layers made of different materials are taken. The results show a clear structure and density resolution.

A scheme capable of enhancing the energy of monoenergetic protons in high intensity laser-plasma interactions is proposed and demonstrated by two dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. The focusing of laser light pulse and the guiding of surface currentviathe highZmaterial cone-shaped substrate increase the temperature of hot electrons, which are responsible for the electrostatic field accelerating protons. Moreover, the sub-micron proton layer coated on the cone-shaped substrate makes the total proton beam experience the same accelerating field, thus the monochromaticity is maintained. Compared to the normal film double layer target, the energy of monoenergetic proton beams can be improved about three times.

The radiography of gamma-ray is one of the most important non-destructive testing in many fields. However, the spot size is always in millimeter scale for the generation of gamma-ray by conventional way. As the development of laser wakefield acceleration, the electron beam with small divergence and spot size can be generated easily in the experiment by tens of terawatt ultra-short laser pulse. Based on this electron beam, gamma-ray with micro spot size is generated and the properties are measured and tested in detail experimentally. The experiment demonstrates that the spot size of this gamma-ray is always smaller than 200 μm, no matter the conversion target thickness, and can be as small as about 40 μm when the conversion target thickness of 0.2 mm is used. The spatial resolution of this gamma-ray is much better than 2.5 LP/mm, the fitting temperature (which is relative to the average energy of gamma-ray) is between 5 MeV and 8 MeV, and the maximum yield per shot of the gamma-ray can be up to 9.1 × 109 photons (energy higher than 1 MeV). High-resolution radiography shows that the areal density of the gamma-ray radiography can be up to 51.3 g/cm2 (stainless steel thickness equivalent is about 6.5 cm). Such micro-spot gamma-ray can play an important role in the high-resolution radiography of high areal density objects.

A double-turn capacitor-coil is used to produce a magnetic field (38.5 T) and construct a topology of magnetic reconnection in a low-β (β < 1) plasma environment. The device is constructed with two metallic U-turn coils connecting two parallel metallic disks. High energy lasers are employed to ablate one disk spontaneously driving two currents in the two coils, which produces an interactive magnetic field topology. We demonstrated through experiments and numerical simulations that the reconnection process takes place between two non-uniform magnetic fields created by the coils, and that the plasma state and the associated magnetic topology in the process can be seen via the technology of the optical probe beam and the proton backlight.

Coded imaging is an important technique in high energy physics, astronomy and many other areas. However, popular image reconstruction methods are not ideal for space-invariant systems, which badly restricts their application. In this paper, we propose a method based on the maximum-likelihood method that performs image reconstruction on coded images with general space-variant degradation. A universal space-variant model is adopted, and the maximum-likelihood method is applied to a Gaussian stochastic noise model to derive an iterative deblurring formula. In practice, this method shows fine smoothness, convergence and good performance for strongly space-variant reconstructions.
