Abstract Background Basal cell carcinoma is the most prevalent skin cancer, most characterized by local aggressiveness but with low metastatic potential, and bone metastasis is quite heterogeneous, thus the incidence profile is variable size from 0.0028% to 0.5%. We have this patient with an unusual example of basal cell carcinoma with bone metastases to add to the scarce report on this matter. Case description Here we document a 48-year-old Persian man with a background of being exposed to the sun for a long time. He was diagnosed with an ulcer on the cheek, which was clinically characterized and further confirmed by biopsy as morpheaform basal cell carcinoma. Following the first round of excision, multiple relapses eventually metastasized to the bone. The latter was found on follow-up radiologic scans. This case is characterized by the aggressive nature of the disease and the heterogeneity of basal cell carcinoma growth, thus challenging the conventional view of basal cell carcinoma behavior. Treatment included surgical excision of the primary lesion, which was treated with radiotherapy afterward. However, the skeleton improved slowly during follow-up, and palliative care was eventually pursued to control symptoms and improve quality of life. Conclusions This was a rare case of basal cell carcinoma metastasis to non-bone organs, which reminded us to consider basal cell carcinoma metastasis, especially in the case of atypical basal cell carcinoma. Therefore, risk-aware patient management is essential. Moreover, these findings highlight the role of further research into the mechanisms of basal cell carcinoma metastasis, leading to improved therapeutic strategies that may lead to potential improvements in patient outcomes.

Abstract Introduction Pregnancy is an important period of life for women and their husbands as the couple’s health is essential. The present study evaluated the impact of some factors (marital adjustment with depressive symptoms) on health-promoting behaviors in pregnant women and their husbands based on the actor-partner interdependence model (APIM). Materials and methods This descriptive study examined 211 couples (pregnant women and their husbands) in pregnancy clinics of Babol University of Medical Sciences using a convenience sampling method. The participants completed Spanier’s Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) (1979), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) (1987), and Walker’s Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLPII) questionnaire (1997). The relationships between women and their husbands were also evaluated using structural equation modeling with R software according to the Lavaan (latent variable analysis) package based on APIM-SEM. Introduction: Immunological dysfunctions and imbalance of Th1 and Th2 cells in pregnant women can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes. The effect of exercise training in changing immune-cell distribution during pregnancy is unclear. Therefore, this study was performed with aim to investigate the effect of 12 weeks moderate-intensity aerobic exercise training (AET) on Th1/Th2 (IFN-γ/IL-4) balance in the second trimester of pregnancy.Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted in 2022 on 30 pregnant women aged 20 to 35 years, with gestational age 12 to 15 weeks in Tabriz city. The subjects were randomly divided into two exercise and control groups. AET were performed according to the recommendations of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists with moderate intensity (12-14 Borg RPE) for 12 weeks, 3 sessions per week and each session 45 min. The variables of weight, blood pressure, heart rate and serum levels of IL-4, IFN-γ were evaluated before and after the exercise protocol. The data were evaluated by SPSS software (version 25) and ANCOVA test. P0.05).Conclusion: In general, moderate intensity AET may be a safe way to improve the health of mothers in the second trimester of pregnancy, but considering limited studies and conflicting results, it seems that the effect of exercise training on Th1/Th2 balance in three different periods of pregnancy needs more investigations.

Abstract Background ZNF142 gene is a protein‐coding gene encoding Zinc Finger Protein 142. ZNF proteins are a vast group of cellular effectors with a wide range of functions such as signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, meiotic recombination, DNA repair, development, and cell migration. Mutations in the ZNF142 gene are related to neurodevelopmental disorder with impaired speech and hyperkinetic movements (NEDISHM). This study on a family with three affected siblings identified a pathogenic frameshift insertion variant. In addition, we conducted a review of the literature on previously reported ZNF142 gene variants and their clinical manifestations. Materials and Methods Three affected siblings with severe intellectual developmental disabilities and speech impairments, their parents, and other sibs in the family were included. The patients were studied by the whole exome sequencing. Sanger sequencing, co‐segregation analysis, and in silico analysis were carried out to verify candidate variant. The identified variant was interpreted based on the ACMG guideline. Results We identified a frameshift insertion variant in the ZNF142 gene, NM_001379659.1: c.3755dup (NP_001366588.1:p.Arg1253ThrfsTer15), that was related to the clinical features of three patients. The identified variant was found to be pathogenic. Conclusion The current study findings expand the existing knowledge of the variant on the ZNF142 gene implicated in the neurodevelopmental disorder, intellectual disability, and impaired speech and it presents a detailed clinical feature associated with related conditions. The data have implications for genetic diagnosis and counseling in families with the same disorders.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), described as World War 3, is the current worldwide health challenge and nearly all countries have so far faced this disaster. There is still no cure because of the complicated pathogenesis, however, there are several studies on track investigating different aspects of the immune response to the virus. In this review, we will provide an overview of recent investigations that have analyzed immune cells in patients with COVID-19. We will then discuss the differences in immune profiles between healthy controls and various clinical presentations, including asymptomatic, mild, moderate, and severe cases.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of depression in expectant fathers, its association with marital adjustment and health-promoting behaviors, as well as the mediating role of depression in the association between marital adjustment and health behaviors in men. In the summer of 2022, 200 expectant fathers were selected. The participants completed the questionnaires included demographic information, dyadic adjustment, depression, and health-promoting behaviors. The results showed that depression had a high prevalence (25%) in expectant fathers. Also, marital adjustment predicted 73% of health-promoting behaviors of the expectant fathers, both directly (58%) and indirectly through depression (15%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biobank, defined as a functional unit for facilitating and improving research by storing biospecimen and their accompanying data, is a key resource for advancement in life science. The history of biobanking goes back to the time of archiving pathology samples. Nowadays, biobanks have considerably improved and are classified into two categories: diseased-oriented and population-based biobanks. UK biobank as a population-based biobank with about half a million samples, Biobank Graz as one of the largest biobanks in terms of sample size, and The International Agency for Research on Cancer biobank as a specialized the World Health Organization cancer agency are few examples of successful biobanks worldwide. The present review provides a history of biobanking, and after presenting different biobanks, we discuss in detail the challenges in the field of biobanking and its future, as well. In the end, ICR biobank, as the first cancer biobank in Iran established in 1998, is thoroughly described.

Let (R, 𝔪) denote a commutative Noetherian local ring and let M be a finite R-module. In this paper, we study relative Cohen-Macaulay rings with respect to a proper ideal 𝔞 of R and give some results on such rings in relation with Artinianness, Non-Artinianness of local cohomology modules and Lyubeznik numbers. We also present some related examples to this issue.

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to estimate the impacts of various deficit irrigation regimes (DIR) as 100 (control), 75 (medium DIR, MDIR) and 50% (severe DIR, SDIR) of field capacity (FC) on the growth and photosynthetic traits of five rootstocks (two vigorous seedling including Pyrus betulifolia and Dargazi seedling (P. communis L.) as well as three clonal semi-dwarfing rootstocks including OH×F69, OH×F87 and Pyrodwarf in 2016. Although in all studied rootstocks the growth and photosynthetic parameters negatively affected under MDIR and SDIR conditions, but P. betulifolia and Pyrodwarf rootstocks had the better growth rate, chlorophylls, total carbohydrates, relative water content, sub-stomatal CO2 (Ci), photosynthesis rate (PN) and instantaneous water use efficiency compared to others. Therefore, the use of P. betulifolia and Pyrodwarf (as drought tolerance rootstocks) could be more appropriate under various DIR conditions.

Study of how to spend non-native students of Ferdowsi University among leisure time, is purpose of this research. Non-native students experience different process in different terms related to leisure time due to special conditions. Entering in new environment, and often new experience in a metropolis, can be understood of people for different leisure time. In fact, since non-native student arrived in own city of study, shares his leisure time with his friends and his family plays a very small part in spending his leisure time. The more elbowroom, having more time to spend leisure time, getting to know new friends and different types of leisure time in a metropolis, opportunity to relationship with opposite sex and many other things will cause of difference in the leisure time of non-negative students. The method of this research was qualitative. With 40 non-native students, individual in-depth interviews were done and finally, by reaching theoretical saturation, the interviews were coded in three stages and finally -analyzed. One of the most important results of this study is the reduction of leisure time in the final semester. Also, the type of spending leisure time for non-native students in the final semester has differences that are discussed in the findings. Generally, Activities in social networks, relationship with opposite sex, street surfing and going to the park are most important leisure activities of the students. More than twenty of leisure time is described according to interviews in the report.

Introduction: Medical students should be familiar with the end of life ethical issues and its considerations. For teaching end of life care to medical students, literature is a source of excellent narratives of patients with experiences of terminally ill condition in their journey through suffering and one of the most favourite bioethics literature readings has been the death of Ivan Ilych by Tolstoy. We used this novel to show medical students end of life events and suffering and asked them to write a reflective essay on it. We aimed to find what students think about terminally ill patients and their journey to death. Methods: In an inductive qualitative content analysis model, 350 essays, collected by homogenous sampling, were analyzed. The fourth year medical students were provided with the Death of Ivan Ilych novel to read. They were asked to write a reflection essay based on the reflective stages defined by Sandars. These essays served as the unit of analysis, each being read several times and a coding model was formed according to main topics. The related concepts in each unit were named as themes and each theme was abstracted to a code and the related codes were compared and developed as categories. Results: Qualitative content analysis of 350 essays of fourth year medical students revealed three major categories in students’ reflection on reading Death of Ivan Ilych as an end of life human body. These included: 1) Emotional experience, 2) Empathy and effective communication, 3) Spirituality and dignity. Analysis of essays showed that this reflection activity may help medical students have a deeper idea of the end of life situation and feelings. Conclusion: This project suggests that literature can be used as an example to introduce new ethical concepts to less experienced medical trainees. The students acquired the concept of the story and reflected the major aspects of the suffering of a human being in their essays. Having used and evaluated the effect of literature on facilitating ethical insight in the teaching end of life care, we strongly recommend this method and specially the novella, Death of Ivan Ilych.

A protocol for determination of the content of dye in а mixture for orange smoke grenades was proposed. The protocol was based on spectrophotometric determination of the dye 1.4- dihydroxyanthraquinone in DMSO solutions. The Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range of (0.5 -1.2) x10-5 mol/l dye with molar absorptivity 7.3x103 L/mol.cm. The protocol is very fast and show good accuracy (recovery 98.6 - 103.6 %) and precision (RSD 3.8%). Theprotocol was applied in model and real samples.

Sweetpotato is cultivated in all the regions of Côte d’Ivoire for consumption and as a source of income. Only varieties with white or yellow flesh are grown. Production of nutritious orange-fleshed sweetpotato (OFSP) is hampered by the lack of genetic resources and planting material. To evaluate and release OFSP varieties, on-farm demonstration tests were conducted with women farmer groups in Bondoukou, Nassian, Korhogo and Bondiali in the north and northeast Côte d’Ivoire. Six varieties- ‘Kabode’, ‘Kakamega7’ (‘Irene’), ‘Tacha’, ‘Bela Bela’, ‘Vita’ and TIB-440060-were evaluated in comparison with locally grown varieties. The on-farm demonstration was laid out in a randomised complete block design with replicated three times per location. Assessments were made on yield, disease and pests; and consumer preference on attractiveness of skin color and flesh of the root (fresh and boiled), taste, texture and starchiness. Results showed that introduced varieties have generally recorded higher yields than the local varieties: Yields of about 25 t/ha have been recorded on the sites. The best average yield of about 15 t/ha, was recorded for TIB-440060 and ‘Irene’ varieties. Farmers’ acceptance of OFSP varieties based on the attraction of their color, the dry matter content and taste was more than 90%. At the end of the sensory tests, ‘Irene’, which achieved the best compromise between all observed and measured parameters, was most appreciated and was the farmers’ first choice, followed by varieties TIB-440060 and ‘Bela bela’.
