This article presents a comprehensive study on the emerging near-space communications (NS-COM) within the context of space–air–ground–sea integrated network (SAGSIN). Specifically, we firstly explore the recent technical developments of NS-COM, followed by the discussions about motivations behind integrating NS-COM into SAGSIN. To further demonstrate the necessity of NS-COM, a comparative analysis between the NS-COM network and other counterparts in SAGSIN is conducted, covering aspects of deployment, coverage, channel characteristics, and unique problems of NS-COM network. Afterward, the technical aspects of NS-COM, including channel modeling, random access, channel estimation, array-based beam management, and joint network optimization, are examined in detail. Furthermore, we explore the potential applications of NS-COM, such as structural expansion in SAGSIN communication, civil aviation communication, remote and urgent communication, weather monitoring, and carbon neutrality. Finally, some promising research avenues are identified, including stratospheric satellite-to-ground direct links for mobile terminals, reconfigurable multiple-input multiple-output and holographic multiple-input multiple-output, federated learning in NS-COM networks, maritime communication, electromagnetic spectrum sensing and adversarial game, integrated sensing and communications, stratospheric-satellite-based radar detection and imaging, NS-COM-assisted enhanced global navigation system, NS-COM-assisted intelligent unmanned system, and free-space optical communication. Overall, this paper highlights that the NS-COM plays an indispensable role in the SAGSIN puzzle, providing substantial performance and coverage enhancement to the traditional SAGSIN architecture.

Recent researches show that it is possible to achieve full-duplex system if the self-interference signal could be cancelled completely for 6G research. The majority of the overall self-interference cancellation is contributed by passive cancellation. The lowest complexity cancellation technique is digital cancellation. Therefore, this paper presents a novel passive cancellation technique based on multi-path effect and a novel digital cancellation method considering nonlinearity factor in full-duplex system. Therein, for passive cancellation method, theoretical analysis is presented and practical experiments show that it can achieve about 50 dB only in 10-cm space. For digital cancellation method, a model based on practical platform is given and it can achieve about 30 dB under high transmit power. In addition, two relay schemes based on full-duplex for two-way relay channel called FD-DF (full-duplex decode-and-forward) and FD-AF (full-duplex amplify-and-forward) are presented. Two proposed schemes can nearly double the system throughputs especially in high signal-to-noise radio regions compared with traditional AF scheme.

BackgroundRecurrence is one of the most important challenges to manage lung cancer. Selected patients might be candidates for resection. This study assessed the outcomes and hazard factors of patients after completion of lung resection for recurrence, focusing specifically on postrecurrence survival (PRS) and overall survival (OS) after surgery.MethodsThis retrospective study enrolled 63 patients who underwent complete pulmonary resection for recurrence between January 2015 and December 2018. Inclusion criteria include potentially curative first resection for primary lung cancer, histologically proven recurrent or new malignancy, and complete pathological report after both operations. PRS and OS were assessed and the influence of patient and treatment features on these endpoints was evaluated.ResultsMost of the patients recurred at stage IIIA, and nearly three-fourth received complete pneumonectomy. The overall 2- and 5-year survival rates were 95% and 75%, whereas the overall 2- and 5-year postrecurrence survival rates were 55% and 36%, respectively. No patient died within 30 or 90 days after completion of residual lung resection, and no serious complications occurred during follow-up. ABSTRACT Soil nutrients and microbial community play a central role in determining crop productivity in agroecosystems. However, the relationship between microbial community structure and soil nutrients in various crop rotation-fallow systems remains unclear. Thus, we designed a 3-year crop rotation-fallow field with five cropping systems (one continuous cropping, three rotational cropping, and one fallow system). We conducted a comprehensive analysis by evaluating crop yield, soil physicochemical properties, and overall bacteria composition. Our results showed that rotation-fallow treatments markedly influenced the crop yield and soil physicochemical properties. Proteobacteria, Acidobacteriota, and Chloroflexi were the dominant phyla in all rotation-fallow treatments. pH, available-phosphorus, total nitrogen, and soil organic matter had considerable effects on the soil bacterial community structure in 2019; however, only available-phosphorus had an impact on soil bacterial community in each treatment in 2020. In summary, with the increase of tillage years, different rotational fallow systems can increase paddy yield by promoting soil nutrient uptake and increasing the relative abundances of bacteria in paddy fields. IMPORTANCE Soil nutrients and microbial community play a central role in determining crop productivity. Therefore, elucidating the microbial mechanisms associated with different cropping systems is indispensable for understanding the sustainability of agroecosystem. In the present study, we designed a 3-year field rotation experiment using five cropping systems, including one continuous cropping, three rotational cropping, and one fallow system, to indagate the outcomes of soil microbial community structures in the different tillage systems. Our results showed that the different rotational fallow systems had positive impacts on crop yield, soil physicochemical properties, and bacterial community structure and that available phosphorus might be a key determinant for the limited bacterial community structure in various rotation-fallow systems following a 3-year field experiment. This study suggests that crop rotation-fallow systems play critical roles in improving bacterial community structure.

MultiCal is an affordable, high-precision measuring device designed for the on-site calibration of industrial robots. Its design features a long measuring rod with a spherical tip that is attached to the robot. By restricting the rod’s tip to multiple fixed points under different rod orientations, the relative positions of these points are accurately measured beforehand. A common issue with MultiCal is the gravitational deformation of the long measuring rod, which introduces measurement errors into the system. This problem becomes especially serious when calibrating large robots, as the length of the measuring rod needs to be increased to enable the robot to move in a sufficient space. To address this issue, we propose two improvements in this paper. Firstly, we suggest the use of a new design of the measuring rod that is lightweight yet has high rigidity. Secondly, we propose a deformation compensation algorithm. Experimental results have shown that the new measuring rod improves calibration accuracy from 20% to 39%, while using the deformation compensation algorithm, the accuracy increases from 6% to 16%. In the best configuration, the calibration accuracy is similar to that of a measuring arm with a laser scanner, producing an average positioning error of 0.274 mm and a maximum positioning error of 0.838 mm. The improved design is cost-affordable, robust, and has sufficient accuracy, making MultiCal a more reliable tool for industrial robot calibration.

Abstract In order to explore the application of multi‐source data from different observational systems (including meteorological stations, radar, and airport observational reports) and high‐resolution numerical model results in the analysis of severe convective weather affecting airports, a local severe convective weather event that affected Beijing Capital International Airport (ZBAA) on 26 June 2018 was studied in this work. Although there was no significant triggering of synoptic systems, the process produced a violent thunderstorm with strong wind gusts, poor prevailing visibility, and hail in just a 30‐min period, resulting in severe impacts on the airport operations. In addition to the routine analysis of weather using observations from meteorological stations and radar, high spatial and temporal resolution data from instruments at the airport were used to reveal the fine‐scale characteristics of the development and evolution of various associated meteorological parameters, which demonstrably served as a useful auxiliary dataset for the analysis of this event. Furthermore, the reliability of the high‐resolution numerical (Weather Research and Forecasting) model simulation was evaluated by using these 1‐min‐scale airport observations. Based on what was judged to be a reliable simulation of the meteorological variables by the model, the trigger and strengthening mechanisms of the storm formed in this region of complex topography, as well as the interaction with another cell, were explored. The model results suggested that convections were initially triggered by the interaction of southerly flow from the plain and northwesterly flow from the mountains, in conjunction with the effect of orographic uplift. The outflow of the cold pool from the former cell prevented the later cell (affecting ZBAA) from moving east. Due to the strong vertical wind shear in the lower levels, the echo tilted to a certain extent and formed an inner secondary circulation, contributing to the maintenance and strengthening for the storm.

Freshwater-fish diversity declined rapidly due to multiple anthropogenic disturbances. The loss of fish diversity often manifested itself in taxonomic homogenization over time. Knowledge of multi-faceted diversity (i.e., species, functional, and phylogenetic diversity) perspectives is important for biodiversity assessment and conservation planning. Here, we analyzed the change of the species diversity and phylogenetic diversity of fish in 2008 and 2021 as well as explored the driver factors of the biodiversity patterns in the Lushan National Nature Reserve. The results showed that the species diversity and phylogenetic diversity of fish have declined from 2008 to 2021, with five species lost over time. We found an overall homogenization trend in the fish fauna of the study area, with a 4% increase in taxonomic similarity among the rivers. Additionally, we found that community structure of fish was significantly different among the rivers, and environmental filtering was the main contributor to the phylogenetic diversity of fish in 2008 and 2021. This study provides new insight into the patterns and drivers of fish-biodiversity change in the broader Yangtze River basin and informs management efforts.

Unlike existing studies focused on the causal relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth at the macro level, this paper uses monthly data from January 2006 to December 2015 and applies the correlation coefficient, as well as Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence, to study the time difference relationship between sectoral electricity consumption and economic growth. The empirical results draw some main findings as follows: First, the time difference relationships show diversity at the sector level but will form a kind of overall characteristic between economic growth and total electricity consumption. Secondly, not all sectors have a remarkable correlation between sectoral electricity consumption and economic growth as only part of them have reasonable values to describe the time difference relationship. Thirdly, the results present both diversity and aggregation at the industry level, while lagging sectors mainly concentrate in the manufacturing industry. The relationship between sectoral electricity consumption and economic growth can be further explored and described from a new perspective based on the results. Further, the trend of economic development and sectoral electricity consumption can be predicted to help policy-makers formulate proper policies.

Abstract Purpose The objective of this study is to assess the carrier frequency and pathogenic variation of monogenetic diseases in a population of 114 subjects in Han Chinese from Hebei province who are undergoing assisted reproductive technology through the utilization of Expanded Carrier Screening (ECS). Methods The study utilized a panel consisting of 155 severe monogenic recessive genetic diseases for ECS. Next-generation sequencing technology was employed to identify specific variants associated with ECS in a cohort of 114 subjects from 97 couples, comprising 97 females and 17 male spouses. Results A total of 114 individuals received ECS. The carrier rate of pathogenic genes in the enrolled population was 44.74% (51/114). Among the 97 females, the carrier rate of pathogenic genes was higher in those without assisted reproduction indicators than in those with assisted reproduction indicators (59.09% vs. 41.33%). However, the carrier rate of pathogenic genes in males without assisted reproductive technology was slightly lower than that with assisted reproductive technology (40% vs. 41.67%). Among both female and male participants, the carrier rate of pathogenic genes between individuals without indicators of assisted reproduction and those with such indicators was 55.55% vs. 41.38%. In 51 carriers, 72.55% (37/51) carried one genetic variant, 25.49% (13/51) carried two genetic variants, and 1.96% (1/51) carried three genetic variants. A total of 38 pathogenic genes were detected in this study, and GJB2 and MMACHC were most common. The carrier rates of the two genes were both 5.26% (6/114). A total of 55 variations were detected, and c.235delC was most frequently found. The carrier rate was 3.51% (4/114). The incidence of couples carrying the same pathogenic genes was 1.03% (1/97). Conclusions The findings elucidate the carrier rate of pathogenic genes among 155 severe monogenic recessive genetic diseases and underscore the significance of ECS as a preventive measure against congenital anomalies. When both partners carry the same genetic mutation for a monogenic disease, preventive strategies can be taken in offspring through preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), prenatal genetic testing, or the utilization of donor gametes. ECS is instrumental in assessing reproductive risk, guiding fertility-related decisions, and reducing the prevalence of monogenic recessive genetic disorders in subsequent generations.

Abstract Background Anxiety and depression are prevalent comorbidities in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, existing research has yielded conflicting findings regarding the effects of social frailty on anxiety and depression. The primary aim of this study is to validate the relationship between social frailty and social support with anxiety and depression in patients with acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) and to investigate whether social support could explain the variations in prior study outcomes for patients with AECOPD. Methods Of the 315 patients hospitalized with AECOPD at the respiratory intensive care unit of a large tertiary care institution in Sichuan Province of China, between August 2022 and June 2023 who were surveyed, 306 were included in the analysis after excluding missing data. We conducted a logistic regression analysis to examine the associations of social frailty and social support with anxiety and depression and performed mediation analyses to examine whether social support mediates the relationship of social frailty with anxiety and depression. Results The logistic regression analysis revealed that social frailty did not associate anxiety or depression in patients with AECOPD. The mediation analysis supported this idea and indicated that while social frailty does not directly influence anxiety or depression, it can through social support. Conclusions The findings suggest that while social frailty may not directly impact anxiety or depression in patients with AECOPD, social support plays a crucial mediating role. Enhancing social support can indirectly alleviate anxiety and depression among these patients. Enhancing social support networks should thus be prioritized by healthcare providers and family members to improve mental health outcomes in this patient population.

Abstract Rhein, a component derived from rhubarb, has been proven to possess anti-inflammatory properties. Here, we show that rhein mitigates obesity by promoting adipose tissue thermogenesis in diet-induced obese mice. We construct a macrophage-adipocyte co-culture system and demonstrate that rhein promotes adipocyte thermogenesis through inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages. Moreover, clues from acetylome analysis identify SIRT2 as a potential drug target of rhein. We further verify that rhein directly interacts with SIRT2 and inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation in a SIRT2-dependent way. Myeloid knockdown of SIRT2 abrogates adipose tissue thermogenesis and metabolic benefits in obese mice induced by rhein. Together, our findings elucidate that rhein inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages by regulating SIRT2, and thus promotes white adipose tissue thermogenesis during obesity. These findings uncover the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity effects of rhein, and suggest that rhein may become a potential drug for treating obesity.

Abstract DNA damage is a key factor affecting gametogenesis and embryo development. The integrity and stability of DNA are fundamental to a woman’s successful conception, embryonic development, pregnancy and the production of healthy offspring. Aging, reactive oxygen species, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy often induce oocyte DNA damage, diminished ovarian reserve, and infertility in women. With the increase of infertility population, there is an increasing need to study the relationship between infertility related diseases and DNA damage and repair. Researchers have tried various methods to reduce DNA damage in oocytes and enhance their DNA repair capabilities in an attempt to protect oocytes. In this review, we summarize recent advances in the DNA damage response mechanisms in infertility diseases such as PCOS, endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve and hydrosalpinx, which has important implications for fertility preservation.

Abstract The performance of platform flexible employees is a core element that contributes to the rapid growth of the sharing economy platform. It is crucial to explore strategies to improve employees' performance with the growing competition among these platforms. Only a handful of research evidence has been found evaluating platform flexible employees’ psychological capital and work engagement to improve their performance. In order to remedy the gap, we draw on self-determination theory to develop a moderated mediation model, which examines how psychological capital affects platform flexible employees’ job performance. We employed hierarchical regression analysis to test the theoretical model and carried out two rounds of surveys, resulting in 474 valid paired questionnaires. The questionnaire assessed the psychological capital, work engagement, job performance, and job autonomy of flexible platform employees. The results indicate that work engagement plays a mediating role between psychological capital affects platform flexible employees’ job performance. Moreover, job autonomy moderates the mediating effect. The findings not only contribute to the literature on employees’ psychological capital and job performance, but also broaden the research scope of self-determination theory, and provide new ideas for improving the job performance of platform flexible employees.

Abstract Background HIV-infected persons demonstrate notable disturbances in their intestinal microbiota; however, the impact of intestinal microbiota on HIV susceptibility in men who have sex with men (MSM), as well as the effects of HIV and antiretroviral therapy (ART) on their gut microbiota, remains under active study. Thus, our research focuses on clarifying the distinctions in intestinal microbiota composition among uninfected MSM and non-MSM healthy controls, investigating the alterations in early-stage intestinal microbial communities following HIV infection, and assessing how ART affects the intestinal microbiota. Methods This study enrolled four participant groups: uninfected MSM, Recent HIV-1 infection (RHI) MSM, MSM on ART, and non-MSM healthy controls, with 30 individuals in each group. We utilized 16S ribosomal DNA (16S rDNA) amplicon sequencing to analyze fecal microbiota and employed Luminex multiplex assays to measure plasma markers for microbial translocation (LBP, sCD14) and the inflammatory marker CRP. Findings Comparing uninfected MSM to non-MSM healthy controls, no substantial variances were observed in α and β diversity. Uninfected MSM had higher average relative abundances of Bacteroidetes, Prevotella, and Alloprevotella, while Bacteroides, Firmicutes, and Faecalibacterium had lower average relative abundances. MSM on ART had lower intestinal microbiota diversity than RHI MSM and uninfected MSM. In MSM on ART, Megasphaera and Fusobacterium increased, while Faecalibacterium and Roseburia decreased at genus level. Additionally, treatment with a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) led to significant alterations in intestinal microbiota diversity and composition compared to RHI MSM. The random forest model showed that HIV infection biomarkers effectively distinguished between newly diagnosed HIV-infected MSM and HIV-negative MSM, with an ROC AUC of 76.24% (95% CI: 61.17-91.31%). Conclusions MSM showed early intestinal microbiota imbalances after new HIV infection. MSM on ART experienced worsened dysbiosis, indicating a combined effect of HIV and ART. NNRTI-based treatment notably changed intestinal microbiota, suggesting a potential direct impact of NNRTI drugs on intestinal microbiota.

In this study, a collaborative radar selection and transmit resource allocation strategy is proposed for multitarget tracking applications in multiple distributed phased array radar networks with imperfect detection performance. The closed-form expression for the Bayesian Cramér-Rao Lower Bound (BCRLB) with imperfect detection performance is obtained and adopted as the criterion function to characterize the precision of target state estimates. The key concept of the developed strategy is to collaboratively adjust the radar node selection, transmitted power, and effective bandwidth allocation of multiple distributed phased array radar networks to minimize the total transmit power consumption in an imperfect detection environment. This will be achieved under the constraints of the predetermined tracking accuracy requirements of multiple targets and several illumination resource budgets to improve its radio frequency stealth performance. The results revealed that the formulated problem is a mixed-integer programming, nonlinear, and nonconvex optimization model. By incorporating the barrier function approach and cyclic minimization technique, an efficient four-step-based solution methodology is proposed to solve the resulting optimization problem. The numerical simulation examples demonstrate that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the total power consumption of multiple distributed phased array radar networks by at least 32.3% and improve its radio frequency stealth performance while meeting the given multitarget tracking accuracy requirements compared with other existing algorithms.

Abstract According to the latest cancer research data, there are a significant number of new cancer cases and a substantial mortality rate each year. Although a substantial number of clinical patients are treated with existing cancer drugs each year, the efficacy is unsatisfactory. The incidence is still high and the effectiveness of most cancer drugs remains unsatisfactory. Therefore, we evaluated the human proteins for their causal relationship to for cancer risk and therefore also their potential as drug targets. We used summary tumors data from the FinnGen and cis protein quantitative trait loci (cis-pQTL) data from a genome-wide association study, and employed Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the association between potential drug targets and nine tumors, including breast, colorectal, lung, liver, bladder, prostate, kidney, head and neck, pancreatic caners. Furthermore, we conducted MR analysis on external cohort. Moreover, Bidirectional MR, Steiger filtering, and colocalization were employed to validate the main results. The need for cross-comparison and validation of all-weather Land Surface Temperature (LST) products has arisen due to the release of multiple such products aimed at providing comprehensive all-weather monitoring capabilities. In this study, we focus on validating two well-established all-weather LST products (i.e. MLST-AS and TRIMS LST) against in-situ measurements obtained from four high-quality LST validation sites: Evora, Gobabeb, KIT-Forest, and Lake Constance. For the land sites, MLST-AS exhibits better accuracy, with RMSEs ranging from 1.6 K to 2.1 K, than TRIMS LST, the RMSEs of which range from 1.9 K to 3.1 K. Because MLST-AS pixels classified as “inland water” are masked out, the validation over Lake Constance is limited to TRIMS LST: it yields a RMSE of 1.6 K. Furthermore, the validation results show that MLST-AS and TRIMS LST exhibit better accuracy under clear-sky conditions than unclear-sky conditions across all sites. Since the accuracy of the all-weather LST products is considerably affected by the input clear-sky LST products, we further compare the all-weather LST with the corresponding input clear-sky LST to conduct an error source analysis. Considering the clear-sky pixels on MLST-AS directly using the estimates from MLST, the error source analysis is limited to examining TRIMS LST and its input (i.e. MODIS LST). The findings indicate that TRIMS LST is highly correlated with MODIS LST. The investigation and validation of the two selected all-weather LST products objectively evaluate their accuracy and stability, which provides important information for applications of these all-weather LST products.

Abstract Diploid wild oat Avena longiglumis has nutritional and adaptive traits which are valuable for common oat (A. sativa) breeding. The combination of Illumina, Nanopore and Hi-C data allowed us to assemble a high-quality chromosome-level genome of A. longiglumis (ALO), evidenced by contig N50 of 12.68 Mb with 99% BUSCO completeness for the assembly size of 3,960.97 Mb. A total of 40,845 protein-coding genes were annotated. The assembled genome was composed of 87.04% repetitive DNA sequences. Dotplots of the genome assembly (PI657387) with two published ALO genomes were compared to indicate the conservation of gene order and equal expansion of all syntenic blocks among three genome assemblies. Two recent whole-genome duplication events were characterized in genomes of diploid Avena species. These findings provide new knowledge for the genomic features of A. longiglumis, give information about the species diversity, and will accelerate the functional genomics and breeding studies in oat and related cereal crops.

Abstract We continue the survey initiated in [1] to explore the Bethe/Gauge correspondence between supersymmetric SO/Sp gauge theories in 2d/3d/4d and open spin chain with integrable boundaries. We collect the known Bethe ansatz equations of different types of spin chains with general boundaries that have been analyzed in the literature, and compare them with the vacua equations of the quiver gauge theories. It seems that not all the vacua equations of quiver gauge theory with BCD-type gauge groups can be realized as some known Bethe ansatz equations of integrable spin chain models.

Carbon-doped copper ferrite (C–CuFe2O4) was synthesized by a simple two-step hydrothermal method, which showed enhanced tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) removal efficiency as compared to the pure CuFe2O4 in Fenton-like reaction. A removal efficiency of 94% was achieved with 0.2 g L−1 catalyst and 20 mmol L−1 H2O2 within 90 min. We demonstrated that 5% C–CuFe2O4 catalyst in the presence of H2O2 was significantly efficient for TCH degradation under the near-neutral pH (5–9) without buffer. Multiple techniques, including SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, Raman, XPS Mössbauer and so on, were conducted to investigate the structures, morphologies and electronic properties of as-prepared samples. The introduction of carbon can effectively accelerate electron transfer by cooperating with Cu and Fe to activate H2O2 to generate ·OH and ·O2−. Particularly, theoretical calculations display that the p, p, d orbital hybridization of C, O, Cu and Fe can form C–O–Cu and C–O–Fe bonds, and the electrons on carbon can transfer to metal Cu and Fe along the C–O–Fe and C–O–Cu channels, thus forming electron-rich reactive centers around Fe and Cu. This work provides lightful reference for the modification of spinel ferrites in Fenton-like application.
