Basing upon the two fundamental works of Edmund Husserl (Logische Untersuchungen and Idee) the author presents Husserl’s concepts of obligation and value according to the phenomenological reduction and the theory of the constitution of objects. Within the context of reduction the conclusions are: as according to Husserl the substance of normative sentences in valuation, the problems of obligation may be reduced to problems of valuation. The sense (Sinn) proves to be fundamental, prior to the existence. If anything should come to being in the ontological meaning it must become a moment of intentional life of consciousness. That is why the object and value exist in the same way but are only different names of some units of sense. The difference becomes clearer on a ‘higher’ level when they are characterised as intentional objects and the intentional experience directed towards them. Contrary to objects we can be directed towards values in a perceptible way (erfassenseise). The experience of value is always a based act. These acts are analysed against the background of noesis and noema. On the stage of constitution of the world it appears however that the substance of morality may be cognised with a personalistic attitude.

To enable stating a final common sensor design of purely textile, measuring wound pads for the monitoring of surgically provided wounds with regard to tissue temperature, moisture release and stretching (as indicators for the most prominent wound healing disruptions bacterial inflammation, bleeding/seroma discharge, and haematoma/seroma formation), the aim of this investigation was to identify and quantify possible variables practically affecting the detection of water in a systematic study. The textile sensors comprise insulated electrical wires stitched onto a textile backing and parallel wires form a plane sensor structure whose electrical capacitance is increased by water (contained in blood or lymph) in the textiles. Only parallel sensor wires forming double meanders were examined because this structure enables all the parameters of interest to be measured. Surprisingly the results are complex, neither simple nor consistent. The change in electrical capacitance (measuring signal) upon the standardized addition of water was not additive, i.e., it was not found to be correlated to the moistened area of the sensor array, but inversely correlated to the diameter of the sensor wire, mildly pronounced in connection with smaller stitching spacing (stitching loops along the sensor wires). The measuring signal reached a maximum with medium sensor wire spacings and pronounced with a smaller stitching spacing. Without exception, the measuring signal was systematically higher in connection with smaller (compared with larger) stitching spacings. The results presented indicate that the optimization of the capacitive textile sensors cannot be calculated but must instead be carried out empirically.

The study focuses on the methodological views of Zygmunt Ziembiński, against the background of the axiological issues addressed in his scientific investigations. In this respect, the author distinguishes three development periods in Ziembiński’s work; the first was dominated by a psychologist and empiricist approach to axiology, whereas the onset of the second was marked by a semiotic-pragmatic turn. In both periods, the essence and properties of evaluative utterances became the chief object of inquiry. In the last phase of his work, however, Ziembiński devoted himself to the study of the values manifesting in law, writing chiefly about justice and the constitution.

Species have intrinsic value but also partake in a long range of ecosystem services of major economic value to humans. These values have proved hard to quantify precisely, making it all too easy to dismiss them altogether. We outline the concept of the species stock market (SSM), a system to provide a unified basis for valuation of all living species. The SSM amalgamates digitized information from natural history collections, occurrence data, and molecular sequence databases to quantify our knowledge of each species from scientific, societal, and economic points of view. The conceptual trading system will necessarily be very unlike that of the regular stock market, but the looming biodiversity crisis implores us to finally put an open and transparent price tag on symbiosis, deforestation, and pollution

Abstract For medicolegal purposes, orthodontic or orthognathic treatment various stomatological staging technique for age estimation with appliance of conventional radiographic images have been published. It remains uninvestigated if cone beam computer-tomography delivers comparable staging results to the conventional radiographic stages of third molar analysis. We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study of 312 patients aged 13–21 years. Dental age estimation staging technique, introduced by Nolla and Demirjian, were applied on the left lower third molar imaged by conventional panoramic radiographs and cone beam computer-tomography. It was investigated if 2D and 3D imaging presented different staging results for dental age estimation. In 21% the Demirjian’s staging differed by a single stage between 2 and 3D images. The greatest congruence (87%) between 2 and 3D images was revealed for stage 7 (G). In contrary, stage 5 (E) presented the lowest level of congruence with 47.4%. The categorization of Nolla revealed divergences in staging for than two categorical variables in Nolla’s stages 3, 4, 5 and 6. In general, the analysis of the data displayed the divergence for Nolla’s stages 4–8. The staging results for 2D and 3D imaging in accordance to the rules of Nolla and Demirjian showed significant differences. Individuals of 18 years may present immature third molars, thus merely an immature third molar cannot reject legal majority. Nolla’s and Demirjian’s 2D and 3D imaging present significantly different staging results.

AbstractCross-education (CE) is a phenomenon whereby motor training of one limb leads to improved performance in the opposite untrained limb. External pacing of a motor task can enhance CE; however, the influence of different pacing methods is poorly understood. This study explored how motor training with auditory (AP) and visual pacing (VP) impacts CE with a visuomotor force target task. Sixty-one participants performed a unimanual motor task. Participants were randomized into a visual (n = 31) or auditory (n = 30) pacing stimuli condition. The primary outcome was cumulative error scores for each hand, before and after visuomotor training. Pacing type did not yield different magnitudes of CE. However, after adjusting for baseline differences, a significant hand (trained vs. untrained) × practice side (dominant or non-dominant) interaction (p = .013, ηp2 = .106) and a group main effect (p = .036, ηp2 = .165) were observed. Visual pacing resulted in greater improvements in task performance compared to auditory pacing regardless of hand or practice side, while training the dominant limb resulting in a greater interlimb asymmetry regardless of pacing stimulus. These findings have implications for applying pacing strategies during rehabilitation from unilateral injury or neurological impairment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The author proves that rejecting the existence of permissive norms and limitation of norms to prohibitions and commands alone is possible only with reducing the idea of a function. The essence of the function is then the ability of the expression to generate independently the universal norm formation. Such manipulation is easy on the level of logical analysis, but proves risky from other points of view. If we want the deontic logic, which we construct, to consider the fact that permission is pragmatically necessary for the law-maker to convey his normative preferences, we must solve the consequences of the adopted structure of the function of norms, which originate on the socio-linguistic level. It appears, however, that due to a lack of a pragmatic theory useful for lawyers, there is no proof that the pragmatically strong permission can be expressed by means of a lot of prohibitions and commands (dos and don’ts). Besides, reducing permissions only to the language of legal rules is an obligation to accept the structure of an act of communication, which can find its full motivation in the Husserl’s structure of the direct cognition.

W państwach o ustroju demokratycznym, źródłem formuły sprawiedliwości – zdominowanej z natury rzeczy przez dyskurs o charakterze politycznym – jest parlament lub inny organ polityczny. W niniejszym artykule dyskusji poddana jest najistotniejsza kwestia dotycząca stanowienia prawa uczciwego i sprawiedliwego: z rozważań na temat sprawiedliwości ujawnia się związek pomiędzy wyborem formuły sprawiedliwości i filozofią. Kompromis wypracowany w dwudziestym wieku pomiędzy domeną filozofii a ustrojami totalitarnymi ostatecznie obalił mit, według którego kategorie filozoficzne można przełożyć bezpośrednio na obszar kategorii politycznych, w niezmienionym kształcie. Standardy polityczne praktykowane w demokracji liberalnej odrzucają koncepcję metafizyki, która byłaby w stanie określić obecne cele i rolę polityki. Sugeruje się, że demokracja konfrontuje się z filozofią na gruncie porządku myślenia. Mimo istnienia tego typu postawy, autor przyzwala na ustanowienie państwa o ustroju liberalno-demokratycznym w konwencji filozoficznej, lecz także dopuszcza jednoczesną świadomość tego, że egzystencja tego bytu jest uzasadniana jako najbardziej rozsądna forma państwowej praktyki politycznej. Filozofia może tłumaczyć demokrację wyłącznie wówczas, gdy zaakceptuje samą siebie jako pewną odmianę dyskursu demokratycznego. Odmianę, która jako jedyna potrafi przyjąć pewien dystans do samych założeń filozoficznych, a utrzymując się w tej postaci – pozostaje dyskursem demokratycznym. Filozofia w powyższym wydaniu to de facto hermeneutyka polityki.

SUMMARY. Precise perforator mapping of the epifascial and subcutaneous course of the perforator flaps, including the precise detection of the skin point, is mandatory for successful preoperative flap design and planning of supramicrosurgery. We investigated the effectiveness of contrast-enhanced B-flow (BCEUS) imaging for perforator mapping and preoperative perforator flap planning and compared it with B-flow ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and color Doppler ultrasound. Sixteen patients who received an individualized perforator flap reconstruction were included in the study. Preoperative perforator mapping includes the following structures: subfascial course of the pedicle, fascial penetration point, subcutaneous course (epifascial and subcutaneous), and perforator skin point. The precision of the preoperative perforator mapping was analyzed for color Doppler ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, B-flow ultrasound, and BCEUS. Each technique was able to precisely display the subfascial course of the vascular pedicle, including the fascial penetration point. However, only BCEUS enabled precise mapping of the epifascial and subcutaneous (suprafascial) course, including the skin point of the perforators with a clear delineation. Precise knowledge of the suprafascial course of the perforators is mandatory for successful supermicrosurgery and perforator flap planning. BCEUS imaging facilitates full perforator mapping, which improves the safety of flap harvesting. However, BCEUS is technically demanding and requires an experienced sonographer.
