Abstract We study the bosonic sector of a decoupling limit of type IIA superstring theory, where a background Ramond-Ramond one-form is fined tuned to its critical value, such that it cancels the associated background D0-brane tension. The light excitations in this critical limit are D0-branes, whose dynamics is described by the Banks-Fischler-Shenker-Susskind (BFSS) Matrix theory that corresponds to M-theory in the Discrete Light-Cone Quantization (DLCQ). We develop the worldsheet formalism for the fundamental string in the same critical limit of type IIA superstring theory. We show that the fundamental string develops singularities on its worldsheet, whose topology is described by nodal Riemann spheres as in ambitwistor string theory. We study the T-duality transformations of this string sigma model and provide a worldsheet derivation for the recently revived and expanded duality web that unifies a zoo of decoupling limits in type II superstring theories. By matching the string worldsheet actions, we demonstrate how some of these decoupling limits are related to tensionless (and ambitwistor) string theory, Carrollian string theory, the Spin Matrix limits of the AdS/CFT correspondence, and more.

BackgroundThere is a high morbidity of polyps in the digestive tract, and certain subtypes of polyps are thought to induce cancer progression and often recur, which may be associated with chronic inflammation. Mendelian randomization (MR) can help identify potential causative relationships and inform early treatment action.MethodsWe performed a bidirectional two-sample MR analysis implementing the results from genome-wide association studies for 41 serum cytokines from 8,293 Finnish individuals, and three types of polyps from European ancestry, respectively, including gastric polyp (6,155 cases vs. 341,871 controls), colonic polyp (22,049 cases vs. 332,368 controls) and gallbladder polyp (458 cases vs. 340,083 controls). Inverse-variance weighted (IVW), weight median (WM), and MR-Egger methods were used for calculating causal estimates. Furthermore, Bayesian model averaging MR (MR-BMA) method was employed to detect the dominant causal circulatory cytokines with adjustment for pleiotropy effects.ResultsOur univariable MR using inverse-variance weight method identified causal associations of IL-2ra (OR: 0.892, 95%CI: 0.828–0.961, p = 0.003), MIG (OR: 1.124, 95%CI: 1.046–1.207, p = 0.001) and IL-18 (OR: 0.912, 95%CI: 0.852–0.977, p = 0.008) with gastric polyp, MIP1b (OR: 0.956, 95%CI: 0.927–0.987, p = 0.005) and IL-6 (OR: 0.931, 95%CI: 0.870–0.995, p = 0.035) with colonic polyp and IL-9 (OR: 0.523, 95%CI: 0.345–0.794, p = 0.0007) with gallbladder polyp. Finally, our MR-BMA analysis prioritized MIG (MIP = 0.332, MACE = 0.022; PP: 0.264, MSCE = 0.059), IL-18 (MIP = 0.302, MACE = −0.020; PP: 0.243, MSCE = −0.059) and IL-2ra (MIP: 0.129; MACE: −0.005; PP: 0.112, MSCE: −0.031) for gastric polyp, and MIP1b (MIP = 0.752, MACE = −0.033; PP: 0.665, MSCE = −0.044) and IL-6 (MIP: 0.196; MACE: −0.012; PP: 0.140, MSCE: −0.064) for colonic polyp, and IL-9 (MIP = 0.936, MACE = −0.446; PP: 0.781, MSCE = −0.478) for gallbladder polyp as the top-ranked protective factors.ConclusionOur research advances the current understanding of the function of certain inflammatory biomarker pathways in the genesis and malignant mutation of polyps in the digestive tract. Deeper substantiation is necessary to assess the potential of these cytokines as pharmacological or lifestyle targets for digestive polyps prevention.

Abstract We derive the action and symmetries of the bosonic sector of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity by taking the non-relativistic string limit. We find that the bosonic field content is extended by a Lagrange multiplier that implements a restriction on the Ramond-Ramond fluxes. We show that the SL(2, ℝ) transformation rules of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity form a novel, nonlinear polynomial realization. Using classical invariant theory of polynomial equations and binary forms, we will develop a general formalism describing the polynomial realization of SL(2, ℝ) and apply it to the special case of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity. Using the same formalism, we classify all the relevant SL(2, ℝ) invariants. Invoking other bosonic symmetries, such as the local boost and dilatation symmetry, we show how the bosonic part of the non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity action is formed uniquely from these SL(2, ℝ) invariants. This work also points towards the concept of a non-Lorentzian bootstrap, where bosonic symmetries in non-Lorentzian supergravity are used to bootstrap the bosonic dynamics in Lorentzian supergravity, without considering the fermions.

Abstract We study a decoupling limit of M-theory where the three-form gauge potential becomes critical. This limit leads to nonrelativistic M-theory coupled to a non-Lorentzian spacetime geometry. Nonrelativistic M-theory is U-dual to M-theory in the discrete light cone quantization, a non-perturbative approach related to the Matrix theory description of M-theory. We focus on the compactification of nonrelativistic M-theory over a two-torus that exhibits anisotropic behaviors due to the foliation structure of the spacetime geometry. We develop a frame covariant formalism of the toroidal geometry, which provides a geometrical interpretation of the recently discovered polynomial realization of SL(2 , ℤ) duality in nonrelativistic type IIB superstring theory. We will show that the nonrelativistic IIB string background fields transform as polynomials of an effective Galilean “boost velocity” on the two-torus. As an application, we construct an action principle describing a single M5-brane in nonrelativistic M-theory and study its compactification over the anisotropic two-torus. This procedure leads to a D3-brane action in nonrelativistic IIB string theory that makes the SL(2 , ℤ) invariance manifest in the polynomial realization.

Implant therapy is a well-established clinical treatment, and porous implants are reported to be advantageous, which needs to be confirmed in vivo. In this study, we designed and fabricated titanium implants with the same shape but with different porosities (20 %, 30 %, 40 %, and 50 %, respectively), which produce different elastic moduli based on the results of finite element analysis (FEA). These devices were implanted into the mandibular alveolar bone of miniature swine, and their survival rates, osseointegration, and marginal bone loss were evaluated one, three, and six months after implantation. It was demonstrated that the 30 % porosity implants, which had an elastic modulus similar to that of the cortical bone, exhibited the best survival rate (50 %) and the lowest bone resorption height (1.51 ± 0.33 mm), with almost no inflammation and attachment loss. In vitro analyses indicated that the appropriate pore size is conducive to the extension and cellular communication of cells, which promotes the host cell homing and differentiation functions. Thus, the elastic modulus of the dental implants determines their success rate. Furthermore, the implants with an elastic modulus matching that of the cortical bone of the patient are advantageous in terms of postoperative loading and bone integration.

Abstract We study the renormalization of an N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 supersymmetric Lifshitz sigma model in three dimensions. The sigma model exhibits worldvolume anisotropy in space and time around the high-energy z = 2 Lifshitz point, such that the worldvolume is endowed with a foliation structure along a preferred time direction. In curved backgrounds, the target-space geometry is equipped with two distinct metrics, and the interacting sigma model is power-counting renormalizable. At low energies, the theory naturally flows toward the relativistic sigma model where Lorentz symmetry emerges. In the superspace formalism, we develop a heat kernel method that is covariantized with respect to the bimetric target-space geometry, using which we evaluate the one-loop beta-functions of the Lifshitz sigma model. This study forms an essential step toward a thorough understanding of the quantum critical supermembrane as a candidate high-energy completion of the relativistic supermembrane.

Water, soil, and heat are strategic supporting elements for human survival and social development. The degree of matching between human-land-water-heat elements directly influences the sustainable development of a region. However, the current evaluation of the matching of human-land-water-heat elements overlooks the influence of elevation factors on the matching results, especially evident in mountainous areas. Taking the Yunnan Plateau with distinctive mountainous features as the research subject, divided into 11 elevation ranges, the Lorenz Gini coefficient, asymmetry coefficient, matching distance, and imbalance index are used to assess the spatial matching and balance of human-land-water-heat elements. A projection tracing model is employed to analyze its water resource carrying capacity. Analyses revealed that the Gini coefficient of monthly precipitation from the 1950s to 2022 on the Yunnan Plateau increases with increasing latitude, whereas the correlation with elevation is notably lower. The asymmetry coefficient increases gradually from west to east with change in longitude. The mismatch of the human–land–water–heat system in regions at different elevations is in the order 1800–2000 m > 2000–2200 m > 1400–1600 m > 800 m > other areas. The matching of the human–land–water–heat system in different wet–dry years and seasons also fluctuates with elevation, resulting in serious seasonal drought and water shortage problems in mountainous areas with elevations of 1200–1600, 1800–2000 m, and >2600 m. The spatial equilibrium of temperature and precipitation in regions of different elevations is best, followed by that of cultivated land, while that of the population is the worst. The Gini coefficients for different water cycle processes of precipitation, surface runoff, and regulating storage capacity for water supply continue to increase. Specifically, the Gini coefficient of industrial water supply is the highest, reaching 0.576, and that of agricultural irrigation is the lowest (0.424). Through artificial regulation of lake and reservoir water, seasonal changes in the demand for agricultural irrigation water are offset to achieve a demand–supply balance and matching of land and water resources. The water resource capacity of different elevation ranges is evenly underloaded. However, the potential of the water resource capacity varies obviously with elevation in the order 2000–2200 m < 1800–2000 m < 1600–8000 m < 1400–1600 m < other areas. It appears that the greater the human–land–water–heat system mismatch, the smaller the regional potential of the water resource capacity.

Abstract We investigate how SL(2,ℤ) duality is realized in nonrelativistic type IIB superstring theory, which is a self-contained corner of relativistic string theory. Within this corner, we realize manifestly SL(2,ℤ)-invariant (p, q)-string actions. The construction of these actions imposes a branching between strings of opposite charges associated with the two-form fields. The branch point is determined by these charges and the axion background field. Both branches must be incorporated in order to realize the full SL(2,ℤ) group. Besides these string actions, we also construct D-instanton and D3-brane actions that manifestly realize the branched SL(2,ℤ) symmetry.

NHE and NKA are important regulators of ion transport in fish and play a pivotal role in maintaining osmotic balance and adapting to salinity changes. However, no systematic identification and functional analysis has been conducted for NHEs and NKAs in the cobia (Rachycentron canadum), a commercially important worldwide flatfish. Herein,12 NHE genes were found to be distributed on 10 chromosomes and 12 NKA genes were found to be distributed on 9 chromosomes were identified in the R. canadum at the genome-wide level. Histopathological examination of the gills demonstrated the response of gill lamellae and chloride cells to salinity, while the microstructure of the intestine and kidney exhibited changes associated with salinity. The findings show that members of the NHE and NKA gene families are widely distributed in gill, brain, and heart tissues. Specifically, NHE genes exhibited high expression levels in the gill, somatic kidney, and brain, whereas NKA genes displayed prominent expression in the gill, brain, and heart. Moreover, salinity adaptation experiments were conducted to examine the response of NHE and NKA genes. In the intestine, NHE1 expression was significantly upregulated following both high and low salt stimulation, while the somatic kidney exhibited a proportional response to changes in salinity. Notably, a significant downward trend in NHE2c expression was observed in the gill, intestine, and somatic kidney with increasing salinity. Following low-salt acclimation, NKAα1b and NKAβ3a were significantly down-regulated in the gill, whereas NKAα3a and NKAβ3a displayed significant up-regulation and down-regulation in the intestine, respectively. In the somatic kidney, NKAα1b, NKAα3a, and NKAβ3a were significantly up-regulated. During high-salt acclimation, the expression patterns of NKAα1b and NKAβ3a in the gill were consistent with those observed during low-salt acclimation, while NKAα3a and NKAβ1b exhibited significant upregulation. Our findings underscore the high conservation of NHE and NKA gene family members in R. canadum and highlight tissue-specific expression patterns and their responses to salinity changes. These results provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms governing ion transport and osmoregulation in R. canadum, contributing to the development of novel strategies for enhancing aquaculture practices of this species.

Dendritic cells (DCs) are antigen-presenting cells that bridge innate and adaptive immune responses. Multiple cell types, including DCs, rely on cellular metabolism to determine their fate. DCs substantially alter cellular metabolic pathways during activation, such as oxidative phosphorylation, glycolysis, fatty acid and amino acid metabolism, which have crucial implications for their functionality. In this review, we summarize and discuss recent progress in DC metabolic studies, focusing on how metabolic reprogramming influences DC activation and functionality and the potential metabolic differences among DC subsets. Improving the understanding of the relationship between DC biology and metabolic regulation may provide promising therapeutic targets for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has spread rapidly and heavily hit the globe, and the mutation and transmission speed of the coronavirus have accelerated so that the world is still in danger. Thus, this study aims to investigate the participants' risk perception and explore the associations of risk perception of COVID-19 with negative emotions, information value perception and other related dimensions.MethodsA cross-sectional, population-based online survey was conducted from April 4 to 15, 2020, in China. A total of 3,552 participants were included in this study. A descriptive measure of demographic information was used in this study. Multiple regression models and moderating effect analysis were used to estimate the effect of potential associations of risk perceptions.ResultsThose who showed negative emotions (depressed, helplessness, loneliness) and perceived video information in social media to be useful were positively correlated with risk perception, whereas individuals who perceived experts' advice to be useful, shared risk information with friends and thought that their community made adequate emergency preparation reported lower risk perception. The moderating effect of information perceived value (β = 0.020, p < 0.001) on the relationship between negative emotion and perception of risk was significant.ConclusionsIndividual differences in risk cognition during the COVID-19 pandemic were observed in subgroups of age level. Furthermore, the role of negative emotional states, the perceived usefulness of risk information and the sense of security also contributed to improving the public's risk perception. It is crucial for authorities to focus on residents' negative emotions and to clarify misinformation in accessible and effective ways in a timely manner.

Abstract We continue our study of the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) factorization of winding string amplitudes in [1]. In a toroidal compactification, amplitudes for winding closed string states factorize into products of amplitudes for open strings ending on an array of D-branes localized in the compactified directions; the specific D-brane configuration is determined by the closed string data. In this paper, we study a zero Regge slope limit of the KLT relations between winding string amplitudes. Such a limit of string theory requires a critically tuned Kalb-Ramond field in a compact direction, and leads to a self-contained corner called nonrelativistic string theory. This theory is unitary, ultraviolet complete, and its string spectrum and spacetime S-matrix satisfy nonrelativistic symmetry. Moreover, the asymptotic closed string states in nonrelativistic string theory necessarily carry nonzero windings. First, starting with relativistic string theory, we construct a KLT factorization of amplitudes for winding closed strings in the presence of a critical Kalb-Ramond field. Then, in the zero Regge limit, we uncover a KLT relation for amplitudes in nonrelativistic string theory. Finally, we show how such a relation can be reproduced from first principles in a purely nonrelativistic string theory setting. We will also discuss connections to the amplitudes of string theory in the discrete light cone quantization (DLCQ), a method that is relevant for Matrix theory.

Abstract We study worldvolume actions for D-branes coupled to the worldvolume U(1) gauge field and Ramond-Ramond (RR) potentials in nonrelativistic string theory. This theory is a self-contained corner of relativistic string theory and has a string spectrum with a Galilean-invariant dispersion relation. We therefore refer to such D-branes in nonrelativistic string theory as nonrelativistic D-branes. We focus on the bosonic fields in spacetime and also couple the D-branes to general closed string geometry, Kalb-Ramond, and dilaton background fields. We dualize nonrelativistic D-branes by performing a duality transformation on the worldvolume U(1) gauge field and uncover novel dual D-brane actions. This generalizes familiar properties, such as the SL(2, ℤ) duality in Type IIB superstring theory and the relation between Type IIA superstring and M-theory, to nonrelativistic string and M-theory. Moreover, we generalize the limit of string theory, in which nonrelativistic string theory arises, to include RR potentials. This stringy limit induces a codimension-two foliation structure in spacetime. This spacetime geometry is non-Riemannian and known as string Newton-Cartan geometry. In contrast, nonrelativistic M-theory that we probe by dualizing D2- and D4-branes in nonrelativistic string theory arises as a membrane limit of M-theory, and it is coupled to a membrane Newton-Cartan geometry with a codimension-three foliation structure. We also discuss T-duality in nonrelativistic string theory and generalize Buscher rules from earlier work to include RR potentials.

Abstract Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) may be a serious public health problem and have received widespread attention in recent years. This study has analyzed the factors leading to the occurrence of serious ADRs (SADRs), determined the factors affecting the prognosis of patients with severe adverse reactions at different levels of medical institutions, and finally made corresponding recommendations for the monitoring, prevention, and treatment of SADRs. We used descriptive analysis and chi-square test to analyze the year, age, gender, proportion of SADRs, and the results of the ADRs in the report. Use the logistic regression to analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of SADRs in different levels of medical institutions. A total of 387 642 people’s 394 037 ADRs were collected from the Henan Provincial Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020. Among them 35 742 cases of serious ADRs (9.1%), 96.1% were eventually relieved or cured, but 39 cases of SADRs caused death. The main causes of death included hemorrhages, organ failure, and allergies. Age, number of medication and illnesses, level of medical institution, history of adverse reactions, and type and method of medication were all factors that affected the severity of ADR. The prognosis of SADRs is worse than normal ADRs. The ADRs in autumn and winter and new adverse reactions are unique risk factors found in this study. The elderly and patients with multiple diseases or taking multiple drugs should pay attention to their adverse reactions. They should be closely observed within a week after taking the medicine. The supervision of patients with a history of allergies and new adverse reactions should be strengthened by primary medical institutions, and in nonprimary medical institutions should paid attention with past medical histories, and use imported drugs and biological agents with caution to ensure the safety and health of patients.

Abstract Background Adult child are used to taking the responsibility of taking care of their older parents in Chinese culture. However, the migration of adult child is not uncommon now in the context of urbanization in China. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of child’s migration on health status and health care utilization of older parents with chronic diseases left behind. Methods The data of the 2015 nationally representative longitudinal survey of the aged population in China were used in this study. Binary logistic regression was used to evaluate the impact of adult child’s migration on health status and health care utilization of older parents with chronic diseases left behind. Results About a quarter of the respondents (25.5%) had at least one migrant child. Most of the respondents (86.6%) rated their health as poor, and 42.0% of them suffered from physical limitations. Nearly half of the respondents (45.0%) had depressive symptoms, but the vast majority (88.2%) were generally satisfied with their lives. Only a quarter of the respondents received outpatient treatment in the past month while only one fifth of them received inpatient visits in the past year. After controlling for other demographic and socioeconomic variables, it was found in this study that those who with migrant child were more likely to report poor self-rated health (OR = 1.26; 95% CI 1.01–1.58), not satisfied with general life (OR = 1.28; 95% CI 1.03–1.59) and seek outpatient visits (OR = 1.22; 95% CI 1.03–1.43) than those who without migrant child. Conclusion Our study found that there is a negative association between migration of adult child and physical health, mental health and health care utilization of older parents with chronic diseases left behind, which means a comprehensive effect on their health status. Further health policies should focus on improving the well-being of older parents with chronic diseases left behind.

Abstract Nonrelativistic string theory is a self-contained corner of string theory, with its string spectrum enjoying a Galilean-invariant dispersion relation. This theory is unitary and ultraviolet complete, and can be studied from first principles. In these notes, we focus on the bosonic closed string sector. In curved spacetime, nonrelativistic string theory is defined by a renormalizable quantum nonlinear sigma model in background fields, following certain symmetry principles that disallow any deformation towards relativistic string theory. We review previous proposals of such symmetry principles and propose a modified version that might be useful for supersymmetrizations. The appropriate target-space geometry determined by these local spacetime symmetries is string Newton-Cartan geometry. This geometry is equipped with a two-dimensional foliation structure that is restricted by torsional constraints. Breaking the symmetries that give rise to such torsional constraints in the target space will in general generate quantum corrections to a marginal deformation in the worldsheet quantum field theory. Such a deformation induces a renormalization group flow towards sigma models that describe relativistic strings.

Abstract We put forward a two-dimensional nonlinear sigma model that couples (bosonic) matter fields to topological Hořava gravity on a nonrelativistic worldsheet. In the target space, this sigma model describes classical strings propagating in a curved spacetime background, whose geometry is described by two distinct metric fields. We evaluate the renormalization group flows of this sigma model on a flat worldsheet and derive a set of beta-functionals for the bimetric fields. Imposing worldsheet Weyl invariance at the quantum level, we uncover a set of gravitational field equations that dictate the dynamics of the bimetric fields in the target space, where a unique massless spin-two excitation emerges. When the bimetric fields become identical, the sigma model gains an emergent Lorentz symmetry. In this single metric limit, the beta-functionals of the bimetric fields reduce to the Ricci flow equation that arises in bosonic string theory, and the bimetric gravitational field equations give rise to Einstein’s gravity.

Pinctada fucata, the pearl oyster, is a bivalve primarily cultivated for the production of saltwater pearls. In this study, the genome-wide association study (GWAS) for the growth-related traits and a principal components analysis (PCA) in P. fucata were performed. Genomic parameters of 6 growth-related traits in 60 individuals were estimated by using 4,937,162 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A total of 45 SNPs associated with growth traits were thus identified. Furthermore, 165 candidate genes were identified, including collagen alpha-3 (VI), serine/threonine-protein kinase mos-like harboring significant markers, and histidine-rich protein PFHRP-III-like, which may influence growth-related traits associated with various biological processes. The results of this study can facilitate marker-assisted selection and breeding programs designed to enhance growth and also offer a theoretical foundation for the further development and utilization of genomic resources in P. fucata.

Abstract We uncover a Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT)-type factorization of closed string amplitudes into open string amplitudes for closed string states carrying winding and momentum in toroidal compactifications. The winding and momentum closed string quantum numbers map respectively to the integer and fractional winding quantum numbers of open strings ending on a D-brane array localized in the compactified directions. The closed string amplitudes factorize into products of open string scattering amplitudes with the open strings ending on a D-brane configuration determined by closed string data.

We review recent developments on nonrelativistic string theory. In flat spacetime, the theory is defined by a two-dimensional relativistic quantum field theory with nonrelativistic global symmetries acting on the worldsheet fields. This theory arises as a self-contained corner of relativistic string theory. It has a string spectrum with a Galilean dispersion relation, and a spacetime S-matrix with nonrelativistic symmetry. This string theory also gives a unitary and ultraviolet complete framework that connects different corners of string theory, including matrix string theory and noncommutative open strings. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the non-Lorentzian geometries and quantum field theories that arise from nonrelativistic string theory in background fields. In this review, we start with an introduction to the foundations of nonrelativistic string theory in flat spacetime. We then give an overview of recent progress, including the appropriate target-space geometry that nonrelativistic strings couple to. This is known as (torsional) string Newton–Cartan geometry, which is neither Lorentzian nor Riemannian. We also give a review of nonrelativistic open strings and effective field theories living on D-branes. Finally, we discuss applications of nonrelativistic strings to decoupling limits in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Abstract We develop a new heat kernel method that is suited for a systematic study of the renormalization group flow in Hořava gravity (and in Lifshitz field theories in general). This method maintains covariance at all stages of the calculation, which is achieved by introducing a generalized Fourier transform covariant with respect to the nonrelativistic background spacetime. As a first test, we apply this method to compute the anisotropic Weyl anomaly for a (2 + 1)-dimensional scalar field theory around a z = 2 Lifshitz point and corroborate the previously found result. We then proceed to general scalar operators and evaluate their one-loop effective action. The covariant heat kernel method that we develop also directly applies to operators with spin structures in arbitrary dimensions.

Abstract The classical and quantum worldsheet theory describing nonrelativistic open string theory in an arbitrary nonrelativistic open and closed string background is constructed. We show that the low energy dynamics of open strings ending on n coincident D-branes in flat spacetime is described by a Galilean invariant U(n) Yang-Mills theory. We also study nonrelativistic open string excitations with winding number and demonstrate that their dynamics can be encoded into a local gauge theory in one higher dimension. By demanding conformal invariance of the boundary couplings, the nonlinear equations of motion that govern the consistent open string backgrounds coupled to an arbitrary closed background (described by a string Newton-Cartan geometry, Kalb-Ramond, and dilaton field) are derived and shown to emerge from a Galilean invariant Dirac-Born-Infeld type action.

Abstract Nonrelativistic open string theory is defined by a worldsheet theory that produces a Galilean invariant string spectrum and is described at low energies by a nonrelativistic Yang-Mills theory [1]. We study T-duality transformations in the path integral for the sigma model that describes nonrelativistic open string theory coupled to an arbitrary closed string background, described by a string Newton-Cartan geometry, Kalb-Ramond, and dilaton field. We prove that T-duality transformations map nonrelativistic open string theory to relativistic and noncommutative open string theory in the discrete light cone quantization (DLCQ), a quantization scheme relevant for Matrix string theory. We also show how the worldvolume dynamics of nonrelativistic open string theory described by the Dirac-Born-Infeld type action found in [1] maps to the Dirac-Born-Infeld actions describing the worldvolume theories of the DLCQ of open string theory and noncommutative open string theory.

Objective: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) injection is widely used, but its adverse drug reaction (ADR) may be a serious public health concern in primary medical institutions. This research will explore the safety of TCM injections and provide clinical recommendations at the primary medical institutions.Method: ADR data were collected by the Henan Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020 were analized Descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, binary logistic regression, and Mantel-haenszel hierarchical analysis were used to identify the risk factors associated with the rational use of TCM injections in primary medical institutions.Results: A total of 30,839 cases were collected in this study, 4905 cases (15.90%) were SADRs. Patients using TCM injections in primary medical institutions were more likely to cause SADRs (OR = 1.149, 95% CI: 1.061–1.245). Aged over 60 years (OR = 1.105, 95% CI: 1.007–1.212), non-essential drugs (OR = 1.292, 95% CI: 1.173–1.424), autumn (OR = 1.194, 95% CI: 1.075–1.326) and TCM injections with safflower (OR = 1.402, 95% CI: 1.152–1.706), danshen (OR = 1.456, 95% CI: 1.068–1.984) and medication reasons with chemotherapy (OR = 2.523, 95% CI: 1.182–5.386) and hypertension (OR = 1.495, 95% CI: 1.001–2.233) were more likely to suffer SADR in primary medical institutions.Conclusion: In general, the number of reported cases of TCM injection was declining over time, but the proportion of SADRs in primary medical institutions increased. In the future, it is necessary to continue to restrict TCM injections at the macro policy level, and vigorously promote the varieties in the essential drug list. At the micro level, it is necessary to intervene in specific populations, specific diseases and specific drugs, first start with them, step by step, and effectively prevent SADR occurrences in primary medical institutions.

Plants are a rich source for bioactive compounds. However, plant extracts can harbor a mixture of bioactive molecules that promote divergent phenotypes and potentially have confounding effects in bioassays. Even with further purification and identification, target deconvolution can be challenging. Corynoline and acetylcorynoline, are phytochemicals that were previously isolated through a screen for compounds able to induce mitotic arrest and polyploidy in oncogene expressing retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. Here, we shed light on the mechanism by which these phytochemicals can attack human cancer cells. Mitotic arrest was coincident to the induction of centrosome amplification and declustering, causing multi-polar spindle formation. Corynoline was demonstrated to have true centrosome declustering activity in a model where A549 cells were chemically induced to have more than a regular complement of centrosomes. Corynoline could inhibit the centrosome clustering required for pseudo-bipolar spindle formation in these cells. The activity of AURKB, but not AURKA or polo-like kinase 4, was diminished by corynoline. It only partially inhibited AURKB, so it may be a partial antagonist or corynoline may work upstream on an unknown regulator of AURKB activity or localization. Nonetheless, corynoline and acetylcorynoline inhibited the viability of a variety of human cancer derived cell lines. These phytochemicals could serve as prototypes for a next-generation analog with improved potency, selectivity or in vivo bioavailability. Such an analog could be useful as a non-toxic component of combination therapies where inhibiting the chromosomal passenger protein complex is desired.

Introduction: Antipsychotic drugs are the main therapy for schizophrenia and have been widely used in mental disorder fields. However, the research on the safety of antipsychotic drugs in the real-world is rare. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the safety of antipsychotic drugs based on real-world data.Methods: ADR reports collected by the Henan Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020 were analyzed. We described the safety of antipsychotic drugs by descriptive analysis and four signal mining methods. Meanwhile, the risk factors for serious adverse reactions of antipsychotics were identified.Results: A total of 3363 ADR reports related to antipsychotics were included. We found that the number of adverse drug reaction reports and the proportion of serious adverse reactions have increased year by year from 2016 to 2020. Most adverse drug reactions occurred within 3 months after taking the medicine. The symptoms caused by typical antipsychotics and atypical antipsychotics were different and dyskinesia was more common in typical antipsychotics. Most patients improved or recovered after treatment or intervention while only one patient had sequelae. Low-level hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, youth, and old age could increase the risk of serious adverse reactions. Four off-label signals were found through signal mining, including amisulpride-pollakiuria, ziprasidone-dyspnoea, quetiapine-urinary incontinence, olanzapine-hepatic function abnormal.Conclusion: We found that most ADRs occurred within 3 months after taking the medicine, so close observation was required for patients during the first 3 months of treatment. The ADRs of antipsychotics involved multiple organ-system damages but were not serious. It might be recommended to take alternative drugs after a serious ADR occurred. The symptoms caused by typical APDs and atypical APDs were different. For patients with typical APDs, dyskinesia was more common and should be given special attention. Statistics showed that low-level hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, youth, and old age were risk factors for serious ADRs. The four off-label signals obtained by signal mining should be paid special attention, including amisulpride-pollakiuria, ziprasidone-dyspnoea, quetiapine-urinary incontinence, and olanzapine-hepatic function abnormal.

Abstract We study the quantum properties of a Galilean-invariant abelian gauge theory coupled to a Schrödinger scalar in 2+1 dimensions. At the classical level, the theory with minimal coupling is obtained from a null-reduction of relativistic Maxwell theory coupled to a complex scalar field in 3+1 dimensions and is closely related to the Galilean electromagnetism of Le-Bellac and Lévy-Leblond. Due to the presence of a dimensionless, gauge-invariant scalar field in the Galilean multiplet of the gauge-field, we find that at the quantum level an infinite number of couplings is generated. We explain how to handle the quantum corrections systematically using the background field method. Due to a non-renormalization theorem, the beta function of the gauge coupling is found to vanish to all orders in perturbation theory, leading to a continuous family of fixed points where the non-relativistic conformal symmetry is preserved.

Abstract We continue the study of nonrelativistic string theory in background fields. Nonrelativistic string theory is described by a nonlinear sigma model that maps a relativistic worldsheet to a non-Lorentzian and non-Riemannian target space geometry, which is known to be string Newton-Cartan geometry. We develop the covariant background field method in this non-Riemannian geometry. We apply this background field method to compute the beta-functions of the nonlinear sigma model that describes nonrelativistic string theory on a string Newton-Cartan geometry background, in presence of a Kalb-Ramond two-form and dilaton field.

Introduction: Monoclonal antibody (mAb) is an important treatment option for cancer patients and has received widespread attention in recent years. In this context, a comparative safety evaluation of mAbs and traditional anticancer drugs in real-world is warranted.Methods: ADR reports submitted to Henan Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020 for individuals taking antineoplastic drugs were included. Data were analyzed with respect to demographic characteristics, disease types, polypharmacy, past history of ADRs, system organ class, name of suspected drugs per ADR report, severity, result, impact on the primary disease, and biosimilars.Results: A total of 15,910 ADR reports related to antineoplastic drugs were collected, 575 (3.61%) cases were related to mAbs. Female had more reports of ADRs than male. The ADRs of non-mAbs mainly occurred in 1–3 days after injection (4,929, 32.15%), whereas those of mAbs mainly occurred on the same day (297, 51.65%). Serious ADRs accounted for 30.26% (n = 174) of mAb-related reports and 34.46% (n = 5,285; four death cases) of non-mAb-related reports, respectively. A total of 495 (86.08%) reports were related to the branded drugs of mAbs. In general, our findings indicate that the female, the population aged 60–79 years, people with a single disease, people who have no ADRs in the past and people who have received treatment regimens were less likely to be affected by the primary disease after receiving mAbs therapy. The signal mining method produced 14 signals, only Sintilimab-Hepatic failure was off-label ADR.Conclusion: This study partly confirmed the safety profile of mAbs. It is unlikely to affect groups such as the female, the population aged 60-79 years, people with a single disease, people who have no ADRs in the past and people who have received treatment regimens. Combined drugs have little effect on the primary disease. By conducting signal mining method, 14 signals were produced, and only one of them was off-label ADR.

IntroductionAdverse drug reactions (ADRs) in pediatric cancer patients have not yet received due attention in the world. Antineoplastic drugs are frequently related to ADRs. Few studies focus on the ADR and the intervention measures in pediatric cancer patients.MethodsADR reports submitted to Henan Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020 for individuals aged from birth to 17 years (including 17 years) were included. Data were analyzed with respect to gender, age, disease types, past history of ADR, occurrence time of ADR, polypharmacy, route of administration, off-label drug use, name of suspected drugs per ADR report, and severity of ADR reports.ResultsA total of 431 ADR reports related to antineoplastic drugs in pediatric patients were collected, 31.55% were serious ADRs (SADRs). The median age of patients was six years (inter quartile range, IQR: 3-11), the age groups with higher reporting rates were concentrated in 1-3-year-olds (130). Past history of ADR, occurrence time of ADR and polypharmacy were statistically associated with SADR. Myelosuppression was the most frequent ADR (15.55%), cytarabine was the most frequent drug (26.22%). The signal mining method produced 14 signals, three signals were off-label ADRs.ConclusionsThis study described the characteristics of ADRs in pediatric cancer patients. By conducting signal mining method, three off-label ADRs need further study. We should pay more attention to these ADRs and develop relative management strategies. More researches are needed to achieve a better understanding of the characteristics of ADRs in pediatric cancer patients of China.

Background:Cancer poses a serious threat to one’s health, which caused significant economic burden on the family and society. Poor availability and affordability resulted in some essential medicines failing to meet the basic health needs of this group of patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the availability, prices and affordability of 32 anticancer essential medicines in Hubei Province, China.Methods: Data on the availability and price related information of 32 essential anticancer medicines in the capital and five other cities of Hubei Province were collected. A total of 28 hospitals were sampled, which included 13 tertiary hospitals and 15 secondary hospitals. We used the standard methods developed by the World Health Organization and Health Action International to compare the differences in drug price, availability and affordability between secondary hospitals and tertiary hospitals.Results: Overall, the availability of medicine was higher in tertiary hospitals. The average availability of originator brand (OBs) was 13.70% (tertiary hospitals) VS 6.67% (secondary hospitals), and lowest-priced generic (LPGs) was 62.83% (tertiary hospitals) VS 42.92% (secondary hospitals). The MPR value of most sampled medicines in secondary hospitals were less than 1. In contrast, the MPR of Cytarabine (17.15), Oxaliplatin (12.73) were significantly higher than the international reference price. The top three OBs’ total expenses for 30-days treatment were Irinotecan, Oxaliplatin, Bicalutamide. Further, their affordability was relative low, as the costs for one course using these medicines were much higher than 20% of the minimum family monthly income.Conclusion: Though the “Zero Mark-Up” and “Centralized procurement policy of anti-tumor drugs” policies have been implemented in China, the availability issue yet to be addressed. High price and low affordability were the major barriers to the access of essential anticancer medicines. Measures should be taken to provide sufficient, available and affordable medicines to patients in need.

Abstract Nonrelativistic string theory is a unitary, ultraviolet finite quantum gravity theory with a nonrelativistic string spectrum. The vertex operators of the worldsheet theory determine the spacetime geometry of nonrelativistic string theory, known as the string Newton-Cartan geometry. We compute the Weyl anomaly of the nonrelativistic string worldsheet sigma model describing strings propagating in a string Newton-Cartan geometry, Kalb-Ramond and dilaton background. We derive the equations of motion that dictate the backgrounds on which nonrelativistic string theory can be consistently defined quantum mechanically. The equations of motion we find from our study of the conformal anomaly of the worldsheet theory are to nonrelativistic string theory what the (super)gravity equations of motion are to relativistic string theory.

Abstract We construct an action for four-dimensional extended string Newton-Cartan gravity which is an extension of the string Newton-Cartan gravity that underlies nonrelativistic string theory. The action can be obtained as a nonrelativistic limit of the EinsteinHilbert action in General Relativity augmented with a term that contains an auxiliary two-form and one-form gauge field that both have zero flux on-shell. The four-dimensional extended string Newton-Cartan gravity is based on a central extension of the algebra that underlies string Newton-Cartan gravity. The construction is similar to the earlier construction of a three-dimensional Chern-Simons action for extended Newton-Cartan gravity, which is based on a central extension of the algebra that underlies Newton-Cartan gravity. We show that this three-dimensional action is naturally obtained from the four-dimensional action by a reduction over the spatial isometry direction longitudinal to the string followed by a truncation of the extended string Newton-Cartan gravity fields. Our construction can be seen as a special case of the construction of an action for extended p-brane Newton-Cartan gravity in p + 3 dimensions.

Abstract We find a Polyakov-type action for strings moving in a torsional Newton-Cartan geometry. This is obtained by starting with the relativistic Polyakov action and fixing the momentum of the string along a non-compact null isometry. For a flat target space, we show that the world-sheet theory becomes the Gomis-Ooguri action. From a target space perspective these strings are non-relativistic but their world-sheet theories are still relativistic. We show that one can take a scaling limit in which also the world-sheet theory becomes non-relativistic with an infinite-dimensional symmetry algebra given by the Galilean conformal algebra. This scaling limit can be taken in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence and we show that it is realized by the ‘Spin Matrix Theory’ limits of strings on AdS5 × S 5. Spin Matrix theory arises as non-relativistic limits of the AdS/CFT correspondence close to BPS bounds. The duality between non-relativistic strings and Spin Matrix theory provides a holographic duality of its own and points towards a framework for more tractable holographic dualities whereby non-relativistic strings are dual to near BPS limits of the dual field theory.

Abstract Nonrelativistic string theory in flat spacetime is described by a two-dimensional quantum field theory with a nonrelativistic global symmetry acting on the worldsheet fields. Nonrelativistic string theory is unitary, ultraviolet complete and has a string spectrum and spacetime S-matrix enjoying nonrelativistic symmetry. The worldsheet theory of nonrelativistic string theory is coupled to a curved spacetime background and to a Kalb-Ramond two-form and dilaton field. The appropriate spacetime geometry for nonrelativistic string theory is dubbed string Newton-Cartan geometry, which is distinct from Riemannian geometry. This defines the sigma model of nonrelativistic string theory describing strings propagating and interacting in curved background fields. We also implement T-duality transformations in the path integral of this sigma model and uncover the spacetime interpretation of T-duality. We show that T-duality along the longitudinal direction of the string Newton-Cartan geometry describes relativistic string theory on a Lorentzian geometry with a compact lightlike isometry, which is otherwise only defined by a subtle infinite boost limit. This relation provides a first principles definition of string theory in the discrete light cone quantization (DLCQ) in an arbitrary background, a quantization that appears in nonperturbative approaches to quantum field theory and string/M-theory, such as in Matrix theory. T-duality along a transverse direction of the string Newton-Cartan geometry equates nonrelativistic string theory in two distinct, T-dual backgrounds.

Introduction This study aimed to assess the prevalence of hypertension and to explore the disparities of its risk factors among urban and rural elderly. Method Data of hypertensive patients were collected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2015. Stratified sample households were selected from 450 villages or communities of 150 counties from 28 provinces. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to analyze the factors correlated with hypertension. Results Prevalence of HBP was 47.6% (95% CI [45.2%–50.1%]) in total and it was close between urban and rural population (48.6% vs 47.2%). Factors associated with HBP were different between urban and rural areas. In urban areas, hypertension was significantly associated with literacy and diabetes in both genders, high BMI level and smoke quitters in males, and physical activity and dyslipidemia in females. In rural areas, hypertension was significantly associated with older age, higher BMI level in both males and females, and dyslipidemia in males. Conclusions The prevalence are about the same among urban and rural residents, but their risk factors vary from each other. Disparity in the risk factors between urban and rural population should be taken into consideration for further intervention.

Abstract We study quantum corrections to projectable Hořava gravity with z = 2 scaling in 2 + 1 dimensions. Using the background field method, we utilize a non-singular gauge to compute the anomalous dimension of the cosmological constant at one loop, in a normalization adapted to the spatial curvature term.
