Related to fixed restorations, the lowest MBL was 0.05±0.67 mm and the highest 1.37±0.5 mm. The MBL for removable restorations ranged from 0.13±0.35 mm to 1.03±0.65 mm. Three studies analyzed the MBL around implants of overdentures in the lower jaw. The estimate for this restoration type was 0.476 mm (95% CI: −0.305 to 1.258). 19 randomized controlled studies dealt with restorations which were fixed to the implants. The estimate for the mean MBL was 0.459 mm (95% CI: 0.325–0.593). There was a decrease in 1-year implant survival with an increase of 1 mm MBL (−0.083%; 95% CI: −0.179 to 0.0123; p=0.083) in fixed restorations. The difference in MBL between fixed and removable restorations was 0.363 mm (95% CI: −0.319 to 1.044; p=0.279). This systematic review indicates that implants with fixed and with removable restorations lead to comparable MBL.Keywords: dental implants, marginal bone loss, fix and removable restorations, systematic review

The aim of this analysis of in- and outpatients in alcohol dependence rehabilitation in Germany is to identify social, mental, and somatic risk profiles for treatment noncompletion.Methods: A total of 92 individuals from an outpatient program and 303 individuals from two inpatient rehabilitation treatment units in three different locations in Germany were recruited and assessed with a structured interview and several measures of psychopathology (personality disorders, anxiety, depression, and impulsivity) at treatment admission, with termination at 12 months follow-up. Participants were subdivided into treatment completers and noncompleters for any reason.Results: A total of 10.2% of inpatients and 16.1% of outpatients did not complete treatment. Compared with treatment completers, noncompleters had a significantly lower rate of continuous abstinence at 1-year follow-up, more recent alcohol consumption before admission, and a higher rate of borderline personality disorders. Among inpatients, an elevated rate of lifetime mental disorders, depression, and suicide attempts was found among treatment noncompleters; among outpatients, treatment noncompleters were more often than completers to be married but live separated.Conclusion: Rates of treatment noncompletion in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs correspond to results from previous research. Noncompletion is a significant correlate of relapse 1 year after treatment, and noncompleters show an elevated level of psychopathology. These findings may help rehabilitation treatment facilities to tailor specific therapies for these individuals to reduce risk for treatment noncompletion.Keywords: alcohol dependence, rehabilitation treatment, noncompletion, inpatient, outpatient

We established realness as the relatively stable tendency to act on the outside the way one feels on the inside, without regard for proximal personal or social consequences. In nine studies, we showed that realness is a) a core feature of individual differences in authenticity, b) generally adaptive but largely unrelated to agreeableness, c) highly stable, d) reliably observable in dyadic behavior, and e) predictive of responses to situations with potential for personal or social costs. Informants both perceive agreeable motives in real behavior and recognize that being real can be disagreeable. We concluded that realness represents an important individual difference construct that is foundational for authentic social behavior, and that being real comes with both costs and benefits.

The importance of personality for predicting life outcomes in the domains of love, work, and health is well established, as is evidence that personality traits, while relatively stable, can change. However, little is known about the sources and processes that drive changes in personality traits and how such changes might impact important life outcomes. In this paper, we make the case that the research paradigms and methodological approaches commonly used in personality psychology need to be revised to advance our understanding of the sources and processes of personality change. We propose Longitudinal Experience-Wide Association Studies as a framework for studying personality change that can address the limitations of current methods, and we discuss strategies for overcoming some of the challenges associated with Longitudinal Experience-Wide Association Studies. © 2020 European Association of Personality Psychology.

AD affects brain dynamics at the local level, such as changes in the balance of inhibitory and excitatory neuronal populations, as well as long-range changes to the global network. Individual differences in these changes as they relate to behaviour are poorly understood. Here, we use a multi-scale neurophysiological model, The Virtual Brain (TVB), based on empirical multi-modal neuroimaging data, to study how local and global dynamics correlate with individual differences in cognition. In particular, we modeled individual resting-state functional activity of 124 individuals across the behavioural spectrum from healthy aging, to amnesic Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), to AD. The model parameters required to accurately simulate empirical functional brain imaging data correlated significantly with cognition, and exceeded the predictive capacity of empirical connectomes.

The application of adhesively bonded joints has increased in a large variety of different industrial sectors over the last decades. In comparison to other joining techniques, adhesively bonded joints can offer easier assembly, weight reduction, lower stress concentration, etc. Additive Manufacturing (AM) as a transformational approach in Industry 4.0 can even improve the structural performance of such joints in terms of more weight reduction, making more homogenous stresses in the adhesive layer of the bonded area. In this work, an adhesively bonded single lap joint (SLJ) with metallic sandwich structures and a pyramidal lattice core as adherend by using AM was designed, produced and tensile tested. The result of this study showed that in addition to the significant savings in the weight of the adhesively bonded joint, the additive manufactured sandwich adherend produces a more homogenous stress distribution compared to conventional adherends with the same material. Furthermore, two different finite element (FE) approaches were used for modelling the fracture behaviour of the additive manufactured joint, namely a solid element formulation and a simplified model using shell-beam formulation. The simplified shell-beam formulation reduces the modelling and calculation efforts massively and shows a good agreement with experimental results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cardiac electroanatomical mapping (EAM) to locate myocardial scar substrate during ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation therapy is currently faced with a major limitation. The presence of epicardial fat leads to false-positive low-voltage maps that may interpreted as myocardial scar. Pre-procedural cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging can produce images of the heart in which both cardiac geometry and epicardial fat are particularly conspicuous. The goal of the present work is to build CMR based geometric models composed of a shell of the cardiac anatomy and epicardial fat. Herein, we first defined a black-blood imaging protocol that is feasible in patients with implanted devices. Then a semi-automated image segmentation method was developed and applied to extract ventricular surface anatomy and epicardial fat maps from which three-dimensional surfaces were built. The results suggest that deriving maps of epicardial fat from MRI data is feasible, accurate when compared to expert observers, and suitable for integration in a clinical catheter-based ablation procedure.
