As China gradually enters the era of mass tourism, people's tourism consumption demand has changed from low-level and focusing on sightseeing to high-quality, diversified and leisure vacations, which puts forward more requirements for the deep, connotational and high-quality development of tourism. Given that the research on language landscape in tourism is still relatively insufficient, this study tries to investigate the construction of the language landscape in the Juguo ancient city in Shandong Province from the perspective of the tourism language landscape in China. The study found that the language signs in the scenic area are mainly monolingual signs, supplemented by bilingual and trilingual signs; There are three languages in the scenic spot, Chinese, English and Korean, among which Chinese is the priority code, while English and Korean are marginalized codes in the scenic spot language landscape. The management department of scenic spots plays a decisive role in constructing language landscapes, but the business operators have not yet realized the economic value of language landscapes. There are problems in constructing the tourism language landscape in scenic spots, such as insufficient construction of a diversified language landscape, non-standard translation of language signs, and lack of design sense and characteristics of signs. In the future, scenic spot management departments should pay attention to the value of language landscape construction, meet the multilingual needs of tourists, highlight the style and characteristics of language landscape, and regularly carry out language landscape investigation and updates.

Semiconducting polymers usually with high photostability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation ability and photothermal conversion efficiency hold tremendous promise for phototherapy. In this study, a biodegradable tri-component semiconducting polymer (NDT) has been designed and synthesized for phototheranostics. NDT nanoparticles (NPs) obtained by nano-precipitation with an ultrahigh photothermal conversion efficiency (65.6%) could be degraded in the presence of hydrogen peroxide in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Such NPs show high phototoxicity towards human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) with laser irradiation as well as negligible dark toxicity. Furthermore, the in vivo study demonstrates that tumor growth was inhibited efficiently when mice were injected with NDT NPs, even with low power laser irradiation (0.2 W cm−2). In contrast, higher power density (0.5 W cm−2) led to complete tumor suppression. No side effects were observed towards normal tissues, which was confirmed by the H&E stained pictures of the normal tissues, including heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney. Further, hematological, liver and renal function parameters indicate the biosafety of NDT NPs.

Phenanthriplatin is a leading preclinical anticancer Pt complex distinguished by a phenanthridine ligand that facilitates DNA-targeted covalent binding via intercalation. We report here that Pt(ii) complexes incorporating phenanthridine into a chelating, multidentate ligand scaffold exhibit a superior in vitro therapeutic index compared with phenanthriplatin and cisplatin.

Resistance to the platinum-based chemotherapy drug, cisplatin, is a significant setback in ovarian cancer. We engineered fatty acid-like Pt(IV) prodrugs that harness the fatty acid transporter CD36 to facilitate their entry to ovarian cancer cells. We show that these novel constructs effectively kill cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cells.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the associations of grip strength with retinal or choroidal thickness in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus without retinopathy.DesignObservational study-cross-sectional design.Setting and participantsThis study included the Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes without retinopathy registered in the community health system in Guangzhou, China.MeasuresThe grip strength in both hands were measured by using a dynamometer. The retinal and choroidal thickness in macular region stratified by Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) sectors were measured by a swept-source optical coherence tomography.ResultsA total of 1029 patients were included. Both retinal thickness and choroidal thickness decreased with the lower quartile of grip strength. Regression analyses indicated that the average retinal and choroidal thickness increased by 0.14 µm (95% CI: 0.03 to 0.25 µm, p=0.011) and 0.57 µm (95% CI: 0.03 to 1.11 µm, p=0.037), respectively, for each additional kilogram of grip strength following adjustment for age and sex. Further adjustments were made for axial length, haemoglobin A1c, length of time the patient had diabetes, insulin usage, height, weight and systolic and diastolic blood pressure, which resulted in an average retinal and choroidal thickness increase of 0.13 µm (95% CI: 0.02 to 0.24 µm, p=0.024) and 0.65 µm (95% CI: 0.13 to 1.16 µm, p=0.013), respectively, for each additional kilogram of grip strength. Consistent results were obtained in the analyses in ETDRS 9 sectors.ConclusionLower hand grip strength was found to be significantly associated with thinner retinal and choroidal layers in patients with diabetes. Grip strength may provide a useful and easily administered indicator of retinal status in patients with diabetes.

PurposeTo assess the association between physical activity, sleep duration, sitting time, and alterations of posterior segment structures with swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT).MethodsPatients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) were recruited, and diabetic patients without retinopathy (non-DR) who matched for age and duration of diabetes were used as control. The physical activity, siting time, and sleep duration were obtained by using standardized questionnaire. OCT parameters included: retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) thickness, ganglion cell inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) thickness, retinal thickness, and choroidal thickness (CT). Linear regression was conducted to analyse the association.ResultsEach group included 116 diabetic patients. Average macular CT was positively correlated with metabolic equivalents (MET) only in the DR group, independent of age, gender, and other potential confounding factors (β = 1.163, P = 0.006). Average macular CT was also positively correlated with sleep duration only in the non-DR group, independent of age, gender, and other potential confounding factors (β = 10.54, P = 0.031). No correlation was found between MET, sleep duration, and other OCT parameters. Sitting time was not significantly correlated with OCT parameters either.ConclusionsPhysical activity and sleep duration are both positively correlated with macular choroidal thickness; this suggests that more time in physical activity and sleep benefit the retina, while there was no association between sedentary time and OCT parameters. Further studies are warranted to clarify the underlying mechanisms and the role of physical activity and sleep in CT alterations and DR.

A long-standing challenge in the treatment of ovarian cancer is drug resistance to standard platinum-based chemotherapy. Recently, increasing attentions hasve been drawn to the use of self-assembled metal-organic complexes as novel therapeutics for cancer treatment. However, high hydrophobicity that is often associated with these structures lowers their solubility and hinders their clinical translation. In this article, we present a proof-of-concept study of using nanoprecipitation to formulate the hydrophobic metal-organic cages and facilitate their use in treating chemoresistant ovarian cancer. The Pt6L4 Cage 1 is an octahedral cage formed by self-assembly of six 1,10-phenanthroline-Pt(II) centers and four 2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine ligands (L).
