Image acquisition from autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) is useful for mapping objects on the seabed. However, there are few studies on the interpretation of data collected with side-scan sonar during autonomous underwater vehicle missions. By recording the seabed with 3D multibeam sonar, a large number of survey points can be obtained. The collected data are processed using applications based on remote sensing image processing. The data collected during AUV missions (or other sonar carriers) needs to be pre-processed to reach the proper effectiveness level. This process includes corrections of signal amplification (Time Varying Gain, or TVG) and geometric distortions of sonar images (Slant Range Corrections). It should be mentioned that, when carrying out the interpretation process for structures on the sea floor, sonar users need to understand the process of visualising seabed projections and depressions, as well as the resolution limitations of the sonar sensors.

This paper presents a metod for reliability assessment of structural components on the basis of diagnostic parameters recorded during operation of aircraft and sea going ships. It was assumed that a potential failure may simultaneously concerns surface wear process and fracture of an arbitrary structural component. In order to develop a reliability assessment model some elements of random walk theory were applied. This work covers surface wear density functions of a component. In the case of surface wear the model is based on a difference equation from which, after transformation, a Fokker-Planck partial differential equation was obtained. By solving the equation component’s surface wear density function is achieved.

This paper presents a way of determining distribution of limit state exceedence time by a diagnostic parameter which determines accuracy of maintaining zero state. For calculations it was assumed that the diagnostic parameter is deviation from nominal value (zero state). Change of deviation value occurs as a result of destructive processes which occur during service. For estimation of deviation increasing rate in probabilistic sense, was used a difference equation from which, after transformation, Fokker-Planck differential equation was obtained [4, 11]. A particular solution of the equation is deviation increasing rate density function which was used for determining exceedance probability of limit state. The so-determined probability was then used to determine density function of limit state exceedance time, by increasing deviation. Having at disposal the density function of limit state exceedance time one determined service life of a system of maladjustment. In the end, a numerical example based on operational data of selected aircraft [weapon] sights was presented. The elaborated method can be also applied to determining residual life of shipboard devices whose technical state is determined on the basis of analysis of values of diagnostic parameters.

The method of the stochastic Markov process used for the analysis of operation of a training aircraft-Cessna 150 was presented in the article. In this article, the time changing probability of readiness was determined on the basis of knowledge of the current aircraft operation. Markov stochastic processes have been used as a model to determine aircraft-Cessna 150 readiness for specific tasks. In order to determine the readiness, the probability of being in one of the investigated states is determined. The analysed states included: standby, pre-flight service, flight, interstate service, after-flight service and hangar service.

Despite this, it is crucial to continuously improve the level of safety and reduce the absolute number of accidents and their victims. The safety of the pilots and passengers plays a crucial role during air operations. One of the most important factors is the reliability of the aircraft. The main goal in the reliability work is to estimate the percentage of units of a product that will still be functioning after a particular period of time. In order to be able to make such a statement, it is necessary to select a probability distribution that will facilitate the construction of reasonably precise probability statements of the type that one wishes to make. In this analysis, the number of hours between failures has been used as the main variable for reaching the conclusion about the reliability of the aircraft at the selected examples.

In the time of globalization and the continuous travelling of people between different parts of the world, air transportation is becoming one of the most important modes of transport. Nevertheless, it is crucial to continuously improve the level of safety and reduce the absolute number of accidents and their victims. The risk analysis with the usage of IT system TURAWA, which was developed to collect the aircraft’s accidents informations, has been discussed in the presented article. Calculation of risk is based on the data sample collected in the operation process. The implementation of the risk of potential failure event in TURAWA is presented and compared with the prediction of such situation by the decision trees. It has been concluded that models should be developed, which cause in the elimination of the human factor from the decision making chain.

Majority of the currently known quantitative models for vulnerability analysis do not allow for a comprehensive vulnerability prediction process for a selected software. The article presents the outline of the method for predicting software vulnerabilities. The presented solution is based on probabilistic properties that allow to reflect external and internal factors affecting software and determining its vulnerabilities. Also, a possible direction of further method development was described, indicating the way of improving the method with elements representing preventive measures, as a result of which it may be possible to limit or eliminate potential software vulnerabilities.

This article is focused on the research concerning the calculation of the durability of electrical machines installed in the electrical system of M-28 and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The article presents a method of predicting the service life of aircraft commutator machines, which are the primary source of electrical energy. The result of the research was the determination of the durability of bearings and coils of electrical machines operated on aircraft based on a flight profile analysis. It is problematic to directly measure the wear of bearings and windings of an electric machine on the aircraft. Their usage can be determined from the relation between their wear and the ambient temperature. This research can be used in practice to plan maintenance work on the analyzed aircrafts. The aim of this paper is to find a trend in air transport behaviour in the Czech Republic and Poland, based on data collected between the years of 2004 and 2016. The choice of data period for the analysis was made because of the date when both mentioned countries joined the European Union and availability of data. The data used in this article is provided from the Eurostat web page where many revealing statistics are collected. The correlations of indicators were chosen as a method of the analysis. It was observed that the number of passengers increased up to 30% and 460%, respectively, in the Czech Republic and in Poland. The authors will explain possible reasons and aspects of such behaviour in order to make some predictions for future trends in air transport. The additional aim is to understand transport processes and economic growth in neighbouring countries during the period of focus. This article presents the information concerning aspects of the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) mission planning process, emphasizing maritime security monitoring and surveillance, and using side-looking sonars as a primary data source. The paper describes characteristic mission plan phases and gives suggestions for the operators, mainly concerning the safety and effectiveness of the AUV mission. The article describes the coverage path planning algorithm, which could be used to create an effective AUV mission plan, considering AUV manoeuvrability, sonar characteristics, and environmental factors.
