The mortality rate of patients with sepsis has been increasing in recent years. Alterations of biomarkers levels during treatment are important in evaluating treatment efficacy and predicting outcomes in sepsis. This meta-analysis investigated the relationship between changes in cytokine levels after treatment compared with those on hospital admission, and their relationship with the prognosis of patients with sepsis.From conception until August 4, 2021, a complete literature search of the PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library electronic databases was done. Observational studies where the outcomes of sepsis patients were divided into non-survivors and survivors and which reported cytokine levels at least before treatment in ICU were included in the current study. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) values from individual studies were pooled using a random-effects model. Quality assessment, subgroup analysis, publication bias, and sensitivity analyses were all carried out.A total of 2570 patients with sepsis from 25 eligible studies were included, and 14 of them measured the cytokine levels before and after treatment in ICU. Among IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-10 levels, those of IL-6 were significantly lower after treatment in ICU than at baseline in patients with sepsis in the survival group (SMD = -0.69, P 0.0001), but were comparable in the non-survival group (SMD = -0.99, P = 0.0575). Similarly, post-treatment TNF-α levels were significantly lower than those at baseline only in patients with sepsis in the survival group (SMD = -0.44, P 0.0001), but not in the non-survival group (SMD =-0.17, P = 0.0842).This meta-analysis shows that reduced IL-6 and TNF-α levels after sepsis treatment in ICU may be indicators of better prognosis and survival of patients with sepsis.

Over centuries, several advances have been made in osteochondral (OC) tissue engineering to regenerate more biomimetic tissue. As an essential component of tissue engineering, scaffolds provide structural and functional support for cell growth and differentiation. Numerous scaffold types, such as porous, hydrogel, fibrous, microsphere, metal, composite and decellularized matrix, have been reported and evaluated for OC tissue regeneration in vitro and in vivo, with respective advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, due to the inherent complexity of organizational structure and the objective limitations of manufacturing technologies and biomaterials, we have not yet achieved stable and satisfactory effects of OC defects repair. In this review, we summarize the complicated gradients of natural OC tissue and then discuss various osteochondral tissue engineering strategies, focusing on scaffold design with abundant cell resources, material types, fabrication techniques and functional properties.

This paper addresses a non-myopic sensor-scheduling problem of how to select and assign active sensors for trading off the tracking accuracy and the radiation risk, where the radiation risk is incurred by the fact that the emission energy originating from active sensors for target tracking can be intercepted by the enemy target. This problem is formulated as a mixed partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP) composed of a continuous-state POMDP for target tracking and a discrete-state POMDP for emission control. Based on the idea of foresight optimization, the long-term accuracy reward is evaluated by the combination of unscented transformation sampling and Kalman filtering, whereas the long-term radiation cost is derived from hidden Markov model filter. Because the problem can be converted into a decision tree, a branch and bound algorithm is developed for problem solution. A simulation example illustrates the effectiveness of our approach.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected long-term non-progressors (LTNPs) are of particular importance because of their unique disease progression characteristics. Defined by the maintenance of normal CD4+T cells after more than 8 years of infection, these LTNPs are heterogeneous. Some LTNPs exhibit ongoing viral production, while others do not and are able to control viral production. The underlying basis for this heterogeneity has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, the miRNA expression profiles of LTNPs were assessed. The levels of microRNA-19b (miR-19b) were found to be significantly increased in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of LTNPs with lower rather than higher viral load. We made clear that miR-19b may regulate CD8+T cell functions in HIV infection, which has not been addressed before. Overexpression of miR-19b promoted CD8+T cell proliferation, as well as interferon-γ and granzyme B expression, while inhibiting CD8+T cells apoptosis induced by anti-CD3/CD28 stimulation. The target of miR-19b was found to be the “phosphatase and tensin homolog”, which regulates CD8+T cells function during HIV infections. Furthermore, we found that miR-19b can directly inhibit viral production in in-vitro HIV infected T cells. These results highlight the importance of miR-19b to control viral levels, which facilitate an understanding of human immunodeficiency virus pathogenesis and provide potential targets for improved immune intervention.

This study addresses the sensor scheduling problem of selecting and assigning sensors dynamically for multi-target tracking. The authors goal is to trade off the tracking accuracy and the interception risk in a period of time. The interception risk is incurred by the fact that the emission energy originating from a sensor can be intercepted by the target during the tracking mission. To react to sensor emission, the targets are able to switch between dynamic models. This non-myopic sensor scheduling problem is formulated as a partially observable Markov decision process, where the one-step reward is constructed by combining the tracking error with the interception probability and the information state is tracked by the interacting multiple model extended Kalman filtering. A novel sampling approach using the unscented transformation is proposed for long-term reward approximation. Numerical simulations illustrate the validity of the proposed scheduling scheme.

SUMMARY In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of non-myopic sensor scheduling as a partially observable Markov decision process in which available sensors are assigned dynamically to observe targets for the trade-off between the tracking accuracy and the interception risk. Our scheduling problem is difficult to solve using traditional methods due to continuous and high-dimensional state space. However, foresight optimization restricts the sequence of action mappings to be a stationary action sequence and gives rise to the upper bound of the objective function value, leading to an approximate solution. Furthermore, unscented transformation sampling combined with extended Kalman filtering is proposed to provide an approximate evaluation of the upper bound that results from an action sequence. To determine the best action sequence efficiently, a pruning algorithm is incorporated into the tree-search techniques. The feasibility and effectiveness of our non-myopic schemes are verified in a simple simulation experiment that involves multiple radars tracking a single target. IL-21 enhances T and natural killer cells survival and antiviral functions without promoting T cell activation during HIV infection, which makes it a better adjuvant in anti-HIV immunotherapy. Due to the pleiotropy and redundancy of cytokines, it is vital to have a comprehensive knowledge of the role of IL-21 in the regulation of immune responses. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play an important role in immune regulation and are a determinant of immune therapeutic efficacy in certain circumstances. In this study, we explored the direct effect of IL-21 on Tregs during HIV infection, which has not been addressed before.Thirty-four HIV treatment-naïve patients were enrolled and the relationship between CD4We found the percentage and absolute numbers of CD4We conclude that IL-21 promotes the survival and CTLA-4 expression of Tregs and enhanced the suppressive capacity of Tregs during HIV infection. These results broaden the understanding of HIV pathogenesis and provide critical information for HIV interventions.

To explore the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-associated mutations in Gag protein of B' clade (human immunodeficiency virus-1) HIV-1 infected Han Chinese people and evaluate the impact of HLA associated Gag mutations on the disease progression of HIV infection.A total of 95 B' clade HIV-1 infected Han Chinese cases were recruited. The gag sequences were amplified from viral RNA and sequenced directly. HLA-I genotypes were detected with the assay of polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific primer (PCR-SSP). HLA-associated mutations were identified and the relationships between HLA-associated mutations and CD4+ T cell counts or plasma viral loads analyzed.Forty-seven kinds of mutations at 28 sites (15, 18, 26, 30, 34, 46, 62, 67, 81, 84, 90, 102, 118, 121, 122, 125, 146, 147, 173, 176, 252, 357, 374, 376, 437, 470, 471, 478) of Gag protein were significantly associated with particular HLA class I allelotypes (P0.05). Among which, 9 sites (26, 30, 81, 84, 125, 146, 147, 357, 437) were located within 13 known cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) epitopes or flanking regions. The number of HLA-associated mutations was significantly associated with both CD4 T cell counts (r = -0.318, P = 0.002) and viral loads (r = 0.360, P = 0.003).HLA-associated mutations may have a significant impact on HIV disease progression in B' clade HIV-1 infected Han Chinese population.

Studies on human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) vaccines have recently focused on targeting the conserved neutralizing epitopes 2F5 and 4E10, and hence it is important to understand the extent of mutations in these two viral epitopes. Here, we investigated the amino acid mutations in epitopes of 2F5 (ELDKWA, HIV-1 HXB2 env 662 - 667 aa) and 4E10 (NWFDIT, HIV-1 HXB2 env 671 - 676 aa) in the membrane proximal-external region of gp41 from clade B' HIV-1-infected individuals living in Henan province, China. We also examined the frequency of a mutation and its relation to disease progression.A cohort of 54 treatment-naïve HIV-1-infected individuals was recruited in this study, and 16 individuals were selected for a short-term longitudinal study on sequence evolution. The HIV-1 env gp41 gene was amplified, cloned, and sequenced, and predicted amino acid sequences were aligned for analysis.The mutations E662A and K665E on the 2F5 epitope and N671S and T676S on the 4E10 epitope were seen. Simultaneous RNA sequencing showed some discrepancies with proviral DNA sequences. In our longitudinal study, mutation levels of these two neutralizing epitopes were low but diverse and persistent. The frequencies of mutations within the 4E10 peptide NWFDIT in slow progressors were noticeably lower than those in AIDS patients (P0.05).Antigenic variation of the neutralizing epitopes 2F5 and 4E10 is limited in subtype B' infection, and that 4E10 peptide mutation is correlated with disease progression. Monitoring epitope mutations will offer useful data for development of the candidate 2F5-like and 4E10-like antibodies to prevent and treat AIDS.

To better understand the prevalence and geographic distribution of genotypes/subtypes on HCV and the relationship between HCV genotypes/subtypes and HIV infection disease progression in the HIV-1/HCV co-infected individuals living in high HIV-1 prevalent areas in China.186 plasma samples were collected from HIV-1 seropositive individuals infected through paid blood donors (PBD), injecting drug users(IDUs) or sexual contact, living in most severely affected provinces, Henan, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces. Samples with HCV viral load1000 cop/ml were amplified by RT-nested PCR, sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed for genotyping/subtyping of HCV. HIV-1, HCV viral loads and CD4+ T lymphocytes were measured for all subjects.(1) HCV were identified as 1a (1.7%), 1b (39.9%), 2a (17.9%), 3a (10.4%), 3b (15.6%), 6a (1.2%), 6n (6.4%), and a newly unclassified subtype (7.5%). HCV 2a and 1b subtypes predominated in PBD in Henan, 3a and 3b in IDUs in Xinjiang and Yunnan, and 6 genotype/subtypes in IDU in Yunnan. (2) There were no significant differences in CD4+ T cell counts among the different HCV subtypes. (3) The viral load of HCV RNA in 1b subtype was higher than that of non-1b subtype, however, no significant differences in HIV-1 viral loads and CD4+ T cell counts were found between 1b and non-lb subtype. Both HIV and HCV viral loads were lower in 2a than non-2a subtype.The prevalence of HCV genotype/subtype in HIV-1/HCV co-infected individuals was associated with geographic areas and transmission routes. HCV subtypes had no direct correlation with HIV infection disease progression.

This study sought to investigate the impacts of the antiretroviral (ARV) therapy regimens currently used in Chinese HIV-1-infected individuals. Seven hundred eighteen ARV-treated and treatment-naive HIV-1-infected individuals living in seven provinces were enrolled in 2005 by a multistage sampling approach according to a national cross-sectional survey program on HIV-1 drug resistance. All patients were investigated clinically, and CD4+ T cell counts and HIV-1 viral loads were measured while genotyping for drug resistance was determined by a home brew nested PCR. Viral inhibition in ARV-treated individuals was higher than that in ARV treatment-naive individuals. The overall prevalence of drug-resistant mutations was 37.8%. Higher frequencies of mutations in ARV-treated and drug withdrawal groups were found than in the ARV treatment-naive group (P0.01). Of the four regimens currently used, the D4T/3TC/NVP regimen showed a higher-level viral inhibition. No statistical significance was found among the four regimens in drug-resistant mutations. The rate of resistance-associated mutations to non-nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) was higher than that to nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) (P0.01). The most common mutations conferring resistance to NNRTIs were K103N, Y181C and G190A, representing 56.5, 30.4 and 14.5%, respectively. Furthermore, higher viral inhibition and a lower rate of drug-resistant mutations were achieved in the good compliance group. This study revealed an efficient viral inhibition achieved with the current first-line regimens in China. Most of these regimens could rapidly result in emergence of drug-resistant mutations, suggesting that a second-line ARV therapy is urgently needed and that the compliance with treatment must be emphasized during long-term treatment.

To investigate the functional states of peripheral blood monocytes/macrophages and their relation with the disease progression in people living with HIV/AIDS (PWHA).Peripheral blood samples were collected from 57 PWHA who didn't receive antivirus treatment before and 32 healthy controls in Jilin, Liaoning, and Henan provinces. Flow cytometry was used to detect the expression of the early activation molecule CD69 in the CD14(+) cells. The plasma HIV RNA level was determined using real-time PCR.The CD69 expression rate in the CD14(+) T cells of the PWHA group was 27% +/- 4%, significantly higher than that of the controls (P0.01). The CD69 expression rate of the AIDS group was 39% +/- 3%, significantly higher than those of the HIV group and long-term nonprogressors (LTNP) group (26% +/- 3% and 20% +/- 4% respectively, both P0.05), that of the HIV groups being significantly higher than that of the LTNP group too (P0.05). The side scatter value of the CD14(+) T cells of the PWHA group was 76 +/- 16, significantly higher than that of the control group (50 +/- 12, P0.05). The monocyte/macrophage CD69 expression rate was significantly negatively correlated with the absolute value of CD4(+) T cells (r = -0.872, P0.01), and not correlated with the value of CD8(+) T cells (P0.05). The monocyte/macrophage CD69 expression rate was significantly positively correlated with the HIV-1 RNA viral load (r = 0.697, P0.01).The activation and the phagocytosis function of the monocytes/macrophages of the PWHA in China are higher than those of the healthy control. They are positively correlated with the disease progression.

To study the polymorphisms and secondary structure of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) tat exon 1 among subtype B' and B'/C HIV-1 infected people in China and to explore the relationship between the polymorphism of tat exon 1 and the disease progression.8 subtype B' and 5 B'/C HIV-1 infected patients with slow disease progression were selected from Liaoning, Jilin and Yunnan province. 26 subtype B' and 9 B'/C HIV-1 infected patients with similar sex, age but with typical disease progression were selected. Provirus was extracted from the whole blood. The gene sequences of the Tat exon 1 were amplified by nest-polymerase chain reaction (nest-PCR). Products were purified and sequenced directly. The sequences were aligned, translated, amino acid substitution were analyzed and secondary structures were predicted.Many amino acid substitution could be found in the exon 1 of Tat in HIV-1 subtype B' and B'/C recombinant strain infected persons with different disease progression except A58T,none of them showed definitely relationship with HIV viral load and disease progression. 23N, 31S, 32Y and 46F were subtype-specific substitutions. No characteristic secondary structure of exon 1 of Tat was found.Some of the mutations of tat exon 1 might be related to HIV viral load and disease progression. However, there was no relationship found between the secondary structure of Tat protein and the disease progression.

To investigate the characteristics of HIV-1 Gag-specific T lymphocyte proliferative responses in Chinese HIV infected patients, analyze their associations with disease progression and explore the mechanism of the HIV-specific immune dysfunction in HIV infection.Specific proliferative responses of PBMC from thirty four HIV-1 infected patients to HIV-1 Gag antigen were detected by a BrdU incorporated flow cytometry intracellular stain, their relations with CD4(+) T cells absolute counts, plasma viral loads and CD8(+) T cell activate status were analyzed.HIV-1 Gag-specific CD4(+) T cell proliferative responses of HIV-infected patients were significantly lower than that of healthy controls (P0.01), correlated inversely to CD38 expression on CD8(+) T lymphocytes and plasma viral loads (P0.05, P0.05), and directly to CD4(+) T cell absolute counts (P0.01). HIV-1 Gag-specific CD8(+) T cell proliferative responses of HIV-infected patients were significantly higher than that of healthy controls (P0.01), correlated directly to CD38 expression on CD8(+) T lymphocytes (P0.05), and inversely to CD4(+) T cell absolute counts (P0.01), but not correlated to viral loads (P0.05).HIV-1 Gag-specific T cell proliferative response were abnormal in Chinese HIV-1 infected persons, HIV-1 Gag-specific CD4(+) T cell proliferative responses were decreased and their frequencies were closely correlated with disease progression.

At the end of 2005, 650,000 people lived with human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) in China, of whom 75 000 were AIDS patients. Many AIDS patients received highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) supported by the "China CARES" program but the immune responses of HAART were seldom reported. This study investigated the effect of HAART on the activation and coreceptor expression of T lymphocytes in Chinese HIV/AIDS patients and evaluated its effect on immune reconstitution.Seventeen HIV/AIDS patients were enrolled and three-color-flow cytometry was used to detect the activation of HLA-DR CD38 and the coreceptor CCR5, CXCR4 expression on T lymphocytes in whole blood samples taken from the patients before and after 3- or 6-month HAART.The activation percents of CD4(+), CD8(+) T lymphocytes were significantly higher before therapy than the normal controls (HLA-DR/CD4: 40.47 +/- 18.85 vs 11.54 +/- 4.10; CD38/CD4: 81.34 +/- 10.86 vs 53.34 +/- 11.44; HLA-DR/CD8: 63.94 +/- 12.71 vs 25.67 +/- 9.18; CD38/CD8: 86.56 +/- 11.41 vs 58.84 +/- 6.16, all P0.01). After 6-month combined antiretroviral treatment, the activation of T lymphocytes in HIV/AIDS patients was significantly decreased (HLA-DR/CD4: 28.31 +/- 13.48; CD38/CD4: 69.88 +/- 12.64; HLA-DR/CD8: 46.56 +/- 18.64; CD38/CD8: 70.17 +/- 14.54, all P0.01 compared with the pre-treatment values). Before the treatment, CCR5 expression on CD8(+) T lymphocytes was up-regulated while CXCR4 expression on CD8(+) T lymphocytes downregulated in HIV/AIDS patients compared with the normal controls (CD8/CCR5: 70.91 +/- 10.03 vs 52.70 +/- 7.68; CD8/CXCR4: 24.14 +/- 11.08 vs 50.05 +/- 11.68, all P0.01). After 6-month HAART, CCR5 expression on CD8(+) T lymphocytes significantly decreased (56.35 +/- 12.96, P0.01), while CXCR4 expression on CD8(+) T lymphocytes increased (36.95 +/- 9.96, P0.05) compared with the pre-treatment and the normal controls. A significant statistical relationship was observed between the expression of activation markers, CCR5 and the CD4(+) T lymphocyte counts after HAART (P0.05).Reduced activation of T lymphocytes and a normalization of coreceptor expression were observed in Chinese HIV/AIDS patients after HAART. Immunity can be restored in HIV/AIDS patients receiving HAART.

To collect background information on drug resistance mutations in treatment-naïve HIV-1 infected individuals in Liaoning Province.Samples from 91 antiretroviral therapy-naïve patients were collected. The entire protease gene and 1-290 amino acids of the reverse transcriptase gene were amplified by nested PCR from provirus DNA and sequenced. The results were analyzed with HIVdb-Drug Resistance Algorithm, and genotypic resistance mutations were determined to particular anti-HIV drugs.Totally 91 sequences were obtained, 3 of which displayed M46I mutations in the protease gene. Minor resistance mutation rate to protease inhibitors was 100%, including types of L63P (60.4%), V77I (60.4%), M36I/V (31.9%), A71V/T (22.0%), L10I (8.8%), and K20R (6.6%). Only one sequence carried reverse transcriptase related resistance mutations M184I.About 4.4% of HIV-1 infected individuals in Liaoning Province carried strains with drug resistance mutations. Most treatment-naïve HIV-1 infected individuals in Liaoning Province were sensitive to the currently available antiviral medicines, but antiviral treatment must be in accordance with the strict procedures to keep better adherence and avoid the prevalence of drug-resistant strains.

To determine the relative resistance to HIV-1 infection of CD4 + T lymphocytes in HIV-exposed seronegative individuals (ESNs) in China.HIV primary isolates were obtained from peripheral whole blood of HIV-infected persons. CD4 + T lymphocytes of Chinese ESNs were separated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells with magnetic cell sorting (MACS). The purified CD4 + T lymphocytes were cocultured with HIV primary isolates. The p24 level was detected and the culture medium was refreshed every 3 days within 2 weeks.For M tropic HIV strains, p24 level was significantly lower in ESN group than in control group (P0.05); for some M tropic HIV strains, even no p24 replicated in ESN group. However, T tropic virus strains had no significant difference between these two groups (P0.05).CD4 + T lymphocytes of Chinese ESNs may possess relative resistance to M tropic HIV strains, which may be one of the main influencing factors that result in ESN.

To investigate variant genotyping of CCR2-64I, SDF1-3'A and CCR5Delta32 in HIV-1 infected Chinese Long-term nonprogressors and to study their association with disease progression.The genotypes of CCR2-64I, SDF1-3'A and CCR5Delta32 were detected by polymerase chain reaction/restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR/RFLP) assay in seventeen HIV-1 infected Chinese Long-term nonprogressors (LTNPs) and thirty-nine Chinese typical progressors (TPs).The frequency of CCR2-64I and SDF1-3'A in LTNPs are 50% and 62.5%, higher than those (23.08% and 33.33%) in TPs. Only one heterozygous CCR5 mutant was detected in LTNPs, and no CCR5 mutant in TPs.Variant genotyping of CCR2-64ISDF1-3'A and CCR5Delta32 may be protective factors for delaying disease progression in HIV-1 infected Chinese LTNPs.

To evaluate the Virologic and Immunologic efficacy of HAART on Chinese HIV/AIDS patients and to assess the impact of of HAART on drug resistance mutations.Three cohorts of Liaoning, Jilin and Henan province received three different regimens for 6 months respectively. Regimen of Liaoning cohort comprised Efavirenz + Indinavir (EFV + IDV), regimen of Jilin cohort comprised Stavudine + Didanosine + Efavirenz (d4T + ddI + EFV) and regimen of Henan cohort comprised Stavudine + Didanosine + Nevirapine (d4T + ddI + NVP). Viral load, CD4(+) T cell count and drug resistance genotype were detected on the three cohorts before and after treatment. Partial HIV-1 pol genes encoding protease and 1 - 220 amino acid of reverse transcriptase were amplified by RT-PCR and then automatically sequenced. All sequences were compared with the data of Stanford HIV Drug Resistance Database to assess resistance mutations against reverse transcriptase inhibitors (RTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs).During observation of 6 months, viral suppression to undetectable level and Elevated CD4(+)T cell count efficacy were achieved on partial Chinese HIV/AIDS patients in each of the three different regimens, even in some patients with rather low CD4(+)T cell count baseline. Before HAART, no primary mutations against PIs and RTIs were detected on the three cohorts, except one patient in Liaoning cohort. But after HAART, drug resistance mutations against RTIs occurred on each of the three cohorts. K103N is the most common mutation against NNRTIs, which can cause high-level resistance to each of the available NNRTIs. Y181C is another common mutation occurred in Henan cohort, which causes crossing drug resistance and multi-drug resistance to NNRTIs. In addition, intermediate level and low level resistance against NRTIs caused by K65R and L74V can also be found, but less commonly.Treatment naive Chinese HIV/AIDS patients were sensitive to HAART. Expected virologic and immunologic efficacy of HAART were achieved on Chinese HIV/AIDS patients, but after the introduce of HAART, the high prevalence of drug resistance mutations against NNRTIs and NRTIs, crossing drug resistance and multi-drug resistance reminded us to pay more attention to the drug resistance mutations detection, treatment standardization, and to avoid drugs wasting and prevent the prevalence of drug resistance strains.

To study the characteristics of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) V3 loop amino acid mutations among HIV-1 infected people in Liaoning province.The whole blood samples of the HIV carriers and AIDS patients were collected in Liaoning province, China and were extracted PBMC genome DNA. HIV-1 V3 and flanking region sequences were amplified by nest-polymerase chain reaction (nest-PCR) with env specific primers: ED5/ED12 and ED31/ED33. Products were sequenced directly and sequences were aligned, translated and analyzed.In AIDS group, some amino acid mutations at specific position of V3 loop: S to R at position 11, H to S, T and N at position 13, A to V at position 19, F to Y at position 20, Q or D to N at position 25 and 29, were found and all common mutations were associated with T tropic/SI phenotype. The frequency of such amino acid mutations in specific positions was higher in AIDS group than that of the asymptomatic infection group (P0.05). In addition, we found some unusual tetramer compositions on the tip of V3 loop: GQGR, APGR and RPGA, GLGR, RPGA in addition to some rare mutations, such as: N to H at position 5 and H to S, F at position 34.The amino acid mutations on the V3 loop of HIV-1 epidemic in Liaoning province were in agreement with the results of subtype B, but we observed some rare mutations and unusual tetramer compositions on the tip of V3 loop.
