Purpose To determine the postoperative effects of radiotherapy (PORT) on the local recurrence‐free survival (LRFS) and overall survival (OS) of stage III‐N2 non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods 183 patients with resected stage III‐pN2 NSCLC from Hunan Cancer Hospital between 2013 and 2016 were divided into two groups for postoperative chemotherapy (POCT) (n = 105) or combination chemotherapy and radiotherapy (POCRT) (n = 78). The LRFS and OS were compared and the factors affecting local recurrence were illustrated in these two groups. The sites of failure based on the lobe of the primary tumor in two groups were described. Results PORT leads to a strikingly lower risk for local recurrence and brought superior OS benefit. For different pN2 Subclassification, Patients with multiple‐station pN2 ± pN1 disease had the worst LRFS (11 months) and single‐station pN2 + multiple station pN1 disease had a relatively short LRFS (24 months) in group POCT. Short LRFS is correlated with multiple‐station pN2, older age (Y > 55), patients with a high positive LN ratio > 1/3 and a poor tumor histological differentiation degree. In group POCT, the most frequent failure site occurs at the ipsilateral hilum (21.0%), the bronchial stump (20.0%), followed by LNs4R (19.0%), LNs4L (18.1%), LNs7 (15.2%), most of left‐sided tumors more frequently involved the contralateral mediastinum, whereas the ipsilateral recurrences dominated for right‐sided tumors, especially for LNs4R. In group POCRT, the highest failure site was the bronchial stump (11.5%), followed by LNs4L (8.97%), LNs1 (7.69%), the ipsilateral hilum (6.41%) and LNs4R (6.41%). Conclusion PORT remarkably reduced local recurrence and improved OS in stage III‐pN2 NSCLC, especially in the multiple‐station pN2 group., This retrospective analysis included 183 patients with resected stage III‐pN2 NSCLC in Hunan Cancer Hospital between 2013 and 2016. Background Findings remain unclear whether neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) detrimentally affects advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) prognosis. We aim to evaluate the prognostic value of NLR in patients with NPC based on a large-scale cohort from an endemic area. Methods We selected patients retrospectively from a cohort examining long-term cancer outcomes following diagnosis. Neutrophil counts and lymphocyte counts were assessed prior to treatment. Kaplan–Meier method and log-rank test were used to calculate and compare survival outcomes. Additionally, Cox proportional hazards model was utilized to carry out univariate and multivariate analyses. Results Between October 2009 and August 2012, we enrolled 1550 consecutive NPC patients staged II-IVB. The median value of NLR was 2.27 (interquartile range [IQR], 1.71–3.12). The 3-component full-waveform data from the August 1, 2008 aftershock of the Wenchuan earthquake recorded by 24 permanent broadband seismograph stations in southeast Gansu and adjacent areas were used to study the crustal velocity structure of southeast Gansu by the waveform inversion method which combines the niching genetic algorithm and reflectivity method. The western and eastern region of southeast Gansu belongs respectively to the Tibetan Plateau and the transition zone between Tibetan Plateau and Ordos block. The inversion result indicates that the upper and middle crusts of the two regions have very similar average P-wave velocities and consist of acid and intermediate rocks. However, the lower crusts differ considerably in P-wave velocity (6.41 km/s in the east and 6.96 km/s in the west) and thickness (9.3 km in the east and 19.8 km in the west). This indicates that the lower crust of the western region is composed of basic rock, while that of eastern region is intermediate rock, supporting the view that crustal thickening in the northeast margin of Tibetan Plateau occurs mainly in the lower crust. The P-wave velocity at the top of upper mantle in the western region is 7.73 km/s, corresponding to that of a young, tectonically active area; while that in the eastern region is 8.05 km/s, corresponding to a stable ancient landmass. On the top of upper crust of the eastern region there is a sedimentary layer about 6.5 km thick and with a P-wave velocity of 5.78 km/s, which is missing in the western region. Compared with the global average crust velocity of PREM, the overall crustal velocities of both regions are somehow low.

Using finite element technique of the plane-strain problem in solid-liquid two-phase medium, we studied the characteristics of “field precursors” and “focus precursors” of subsurface fluid and their spatial-temporal evolution in case of dip-slip earthquake. The results show that: (1) the change of ground fluid is slow and the anomaly is not prominent in the early period which is of elastic accumulation and non-linear; (2) dilatancy emerges and anomaly focus mainly in the source region in the moderate period which is hardening and of local dilatancy. In the period the focus precursors emerge earlier than the field precursors; (3) anomalies spread continuously in the source area and new regions with big anomaly emerge out of the source region in the middle-short period which is of large-scale dilatancy.

Based on a simplified media model of Gonghe area, the precursor characteristics of Gonghe M7.0 earthquake in 1990 are simulated in this paper by using the constitutive relationship of binary medium (solid and water). The results show that the simulated state distribution and extension variation of media are identical with the spatial and temporal distribution of reliable anomalies before Gonghe earthquake. The study also suggests that the development of the Gonghe earthquake has experienced a series of processes such as elastic deformation of large scale, early nonelastic dilatation, strain softening and elastic recovery in the neighbour region of Xining, nonelastic dilatation of high dense block near seismic source and earthquake occurrence. Therefore, it can be concluded that this earthquake development is neither a simple process for fissures developing and linking up with one another, nor a process of nonelastic volume expansion and water flowing into medium around seismic source, contrary, it is a complicated medium state changing process, and the style of such changing depends on geological structure environment of seismic source and its neighbour region. It is considered that different earthquakes are accompanied by different geological conditions, the spatial and temporal behavior of their precursors are certainly different.
