The article is devoted to the publication and analysis of a fragmentary bronze jug found in 1872 during excavation of a barrow near Streletskaya Bay, on the estate of Colonel K. I. Shverin, the only known burial-mound in the necropolis of Chersonesos Taurike. A detailed analysis of the jug fragments, primarily its handle, and of the parallels for it give grounds for dating the bronze jug from the Shverin burial-mound within a broad period from the late 6th century to the mid-5th century BC. Much more complicated is the question as to the place of its manufacture, given the fact that most of the parallels discussed originate from the North Pontic region (Ulyap Barrrow No. 1/1981; the hoard from Peschanoe). Most probably both the jugs from the Ulyap and Shverin burial-mounds may be given a preliminary attribution as items from a Corinthian workshop. The proposed dating of the bronze jug from the Shverin burial-mound does not necessarily mean that the barrow should also be dated to the same period. We are aware of examples of long use for rare imported bronze vessels in the North Pontic region. Yet the possibility that the Shverin burial-mound was erected later than the 4th century BC seems slight. Most probably, given the dating of this find - the only one from the barrow, it should be dated within a broad framework of the 5th or first half of the 4th century BC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article is devoted to the typology and chronology of one of the most widespread groups of Pontic sigillata. Plates with vertical rim were classified by John Hayes in 1985 as Form I. In 1982 The State Historical Museum acquired a set of a gold funeral wreath and three pair of earrings from the KGB. According to the given information the objects originated from the clandestine excavations in Anapa or its vicinities. The complex of jewelry discussed is chronologically close to the burial in the tomb II, excavated in 1975 in Gorgippia, which may be dated not later than the middle-third quarter of the 2nd century AD. The fact that the plaque of the funerary wreath finds parallels only among the medallions from Gorgippia, and was most probably hammered in the same matrix as these objects, gives grounds to discuss the complex of finds as most probably originating from the necropolis of Gorgippia. Having in mind the wealth of the complex, the time and the circumstances of its acquisition, it may be tentatively supposed, that the finds originate from a monumental tomb, excavated in Gorgippia in 1978, which was robbed several years before.
