Abstract

A 3-year-old male patient was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF1) for two years. The patient has multiple neurofibromas in retroperitoneum, lumbococcygeal paravertebral, lumbosacral spinal canal, and foramina. Due to retroperitoneal mass compression, the child suffered from urological complications such as hydronephrosis, ureterdilation, neurogenic bladder, etc., which seriously affected the urination function and resulted in multiple surgical treatments. Currently, the patient has been treated with mitogen activates extracelluar signal-regulated kinases(MEK) inhibitor selumetinib targeted therapy, and has voluntarily urinated, and his general state is better than before medication. The diagnosis and treatment of this case reflects the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases.

4. LncRNA SNHG3 promotes the growth and metastasis of colorectal cancer by regulating miR-539/RUNX2 axis

Abstract

The long noncoding RNA(lncRNA) small nucleolar RNA host gene 3(SNHG3) has been reported to be upregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, its biological role and underlying mechanisms in CRC have not been well studied. The expression levels of SNHG3 were measured in CRC tissues and cell lines by real time quantitative PCR. Functional assays, including the cell counting Kit-8, wound healing and transwell invasion assays, were used to determine the effect of SNHG3 on CRC cell proliferation, migration and invasion,respectively. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis, dual-Luciferase reporter assays and RNA immunoprecipitation were applied to determine the mechanism of SNHG3 in CRC. Mice xenograft models were established to assess the role of SNHG3 in CRC tumorigenicity and metastasis in vivo.The expression of SNHG3 was significantly upregulated in CRC tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues, which was positively correlated with advanced clinical stage, distant metastasis and poor overall survival. Functional experiments revealed that SNHG3 knockdown significantly decreased CRC growth and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, SNHG3 could bind to miR-539, thereby up-regulating the expression of its target gene runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), and play an oncogenic role in CRC progression. Our works suggest that lncRNA SNHG3 promotes CRC growth and metastasis via regulating miR-539/RUNX2 axis, suggesting that the SNHG3 might be a potential therapeutic target for CRC.

Abstract

Recently, significant progress has been made in the design and manufacture of various aircraft, such as military and civilian transporters, helicopters, UAVs etc. Thus, research of lightning protection of aircraft becomes critical. Lightning strikes are unavoidable, but measures can be taken to reduce the negative effects. The understanding of the distribution of the electromagnetic environment inside the aircraft is beneficial to the rational layout of the electronic equipment and cables in the cabin. Based on the CST simulation platform, an aircraft model is used as a small system-level simulation carrier to simulate the situation when the aircraft is under the EMP radiation. Analysis includes the transient voltage and current induced on various cables. A reasonable cable layout scheme is proposed based on the analysis of the internal electromagnetic environment of the body, thereby improving the flight reliability of the aircraft.

32. Exploring the Security Boundary of Data Reconstruction via Neuron Exclusivity Analysis

Abstract

Among existing privacy attacks on the gradient of neural networks, \emph{data reconstruction attack}, which reverse engineers the training batch from the gradient, poses a severe threat on the private training data. Despite its empirical success on large architectures and small training batches, unstable reconstruction accuracy is also observed when a smaller architecture or a larger batch is under attack. Due to the weak interpretability of existing learning-based attacks, there is little known on why, when and how data reconstruction attack is feasible. In our work, we perform the first analytic study on the security boundary of data reconstruction from gradient via a microcosmic view on neural networks with rectified linear units (ReLUs), the most popular activation function in practice. For the first time, we characterize the insecure/secure boundary of data reconstruction attack in terms of the \emph{neuron exclusivity state} of a training batch, indexed by the number of \emph{\textbf{Ex}clusively \textbf{A}ctivated \textbf{N}eurons} (ExANs, i.e., a ReLU activated by only one sample in a batch). Intuitively, we show a training batch with more ExANs are more vulnerable to data reconstruction attack and vice versa. On the one hand, we construct a novel deterministic attack algorithm which substantially outperforms previous attacks for reconstructing training batches lying in the insecure boundary of a neural network. Meanwhile, for training batches lying in the secure boundary, we prove the impossibility of unique reconstruction, based on which an exclusivity reduction strategy is devised to enlarge the secure boundary for mitigation purposes., Comment: Accepted by USENIX Security'22; A preprint version
