1. Aggregation Modelling of Grid-Forming Renewable Power Plant for Frequency and Voltage Dynamic Analysis

Abstract

Renewable power plant based on the grid-forming converter has a similar performance with the traditional thermal power plant on the function of active support for the frequency and voltage in the power system. An aggregation model is proposed for the frequency and voltage stability analysis of new power system, the overall operation characteristics of the plant are analyzed, and a method for identifying and selecting the parameters of the aggregation model is proposed. The proposed aggregation model can accurately reflect the dynamic process of the interaction between the renewable power plant and the grid, and ensure a quick simulation rate. In comparison with the electromagnetic transient model for grid-forming renewable power plant, the effectiveness of the proposed aggregation model is verified in MATLAB/Simulink. The accuracy and rapidity of the proposed aggregation model is verified in the frequency and voltage stability simulation analysis of power system based on the case study in the IEEE 39 bus system.

9. Variable Zero-Vector-Width-Based Three-Phase DC/AC Talkative Power Conversion

Abstract

Talkative power conversion (TPC), which embeds information into the switching ripples of power converters to achieve the simultaneous transmission of power and data without the installation of additional hardware, can reduce the additional communication infrastructure in cyber–physical systems of digital energy and modern power plants. TPC in dc/dc converters has been the subject of numerous investigations, but comparatively few studies have focused on dc/ac converters. In this article, a novel variable zero-vector-width modulation (VZVWM) for three-phase dc/ac converters is proposed to achieve TPC. The dc/ac converters can transmit information to the receiver, crossing the LCL filter and power cable, with a good power quality. The harmonic distribution is mathematically analyzed, underpinning the viability of VZVWM-based TPC, and leading to the proposed sliding FFT-based demodulation. The electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance of the VZVWM-based talkative dc/ac converter is studied in detail. The correctness of harmonics distribution and feasibility of the VZVWM-based TPC is validated in simulations and experiments. Total harmonic distortion (THD) and bit error rate (BER) are evaluated with regard to variable cable distances, types, and zero vector’s widths.

12. Low Carbon Planning of PV-Charging Stations for Self-Sustained Highway Transportation Energy System Considering the Retirement of Gas Stations

Abstract

With the pressure of energy crisis, how to achieve low carbon and self-sustaining operation of highway transportation network (HTN) has become an emerging research topic. In the current HTN, fuel vehicles (FVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) form a mixed traffic flow together. In this context, a novel model is proposed for the planning of energy facilities in HTN, including the construction of charging stations and the retirement of gas stations, which takes into account not only the balance of traffic flow but also environmental factors in the planning process. Meanwhile, the construction of charging stations leads to the coupling of HTN and distribution network (DN). In order to further achieve the goal of carbon reduction, a planning framework of low carbon facilities in the charging system is proposed, including the installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels and carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems. Finally, the rationality of the proposed planning method is verified by case studies.

19. STPNet: Quantifying the Uncertainty of Electric Vehicle Charging Demand via Long-Term Spatiotemporal Traffic Flow Prediction Intervals

Abstract

Constructing the prediction intervals (PIs) for electric vehicle (EV) charging demand based on traffic flow information is crucial for the efficient operation of EV charging stations. However, due to the volatile nature of traffic flow, obtaining long-term traffic flow information (e.g., one week in advance) is challenging, particularly for multiple neighbored sites. To address this issue, this work establishes a deep learning prediction framework called Spatiotemporal Periodic Network (STPNet), which utilizes an encoder-decoder architecture. The STPNet incorporates a spatiotemporal and periodic pattern learning technique, and leverages the advantages of convolutional long short-term memory units (ConvLSTM) to quantify the uncertainty of traffic flow. Furthermore, to improve the performance of traffic flow prediction, a spatiotemporal series decomposition strategy based on Seasonal and Trend decomposition using Loess (STL) is employed, and a spatiotemporal PI performance-based loss function is creatively developed in this work. Then, the PIs of the EV charging demand are obtained based on the predicted traffic flow information and an M/M/C/K queuing model. Validated using a real-world dataset, the proposed model has been demonstrated to exhibit effectiveness in generating high-quality EV charging demand PIs for multiple locations.
