Abstract

Purpose: The incorporation of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.; RG), a winter manure, could partly replace chemical N and reduce N loss during the succeeding rice seasons, but little is known about its impact on greenhouse gas emission. This study investigated the effect of different RG-urea substitution ratios (0% RG and 100% urea, 25% RG and 75% urea, 50% RG and 50% urea, 75% RG and 25% urea, 100% RG and 0% urea,) on net C and N mineralization, CH4 and N2O emissions in a paddy soil. Methods: Gas samples for CH4 and N2O fluxes were collected by using a closed chamber and determined by chromatograph method. Net C and N mineralization from the incorporated RG residue were tested by a mesh bag method. Results: Net C and N mineralization from RG followed a single exponential decay model, with 95.5%-97.8% of the original C and 98.7%-99.3% of N released during 192 days. The RG-urea substitution ratio increased CH4 emission, but was negatively correlated with N2O emission. In comparison with 0% substitution, global warming potential (GWP) and greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) were not significantly different for the 25% and 50% RG substitutions, but were significantly higher for the 75% and 100% substitutions (P < 0.05). Soil redox, C and N remaining in litter residue were key characteristics explaining CH4 emission, while NH4+-N and NO3−-N were correlated with N2O emission. Conclusion: The increased GWP by CH4 emission after RG incorporation could be offset by N2O reduction when RG-urea substitution ratio was 50% or less. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

30. BiVO4photoanode modified with FeOOH cocatalyst for visible-light-driven photoelectrocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants

Abstract

Photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) could effectively and gently treat wastewater. Nonetheless, catalysts face the pronounced tendency of sluggish photogenerated carrier transfer and carrier recombination. In this paper, we herein fabricate FeOOH/BiVO4photoanode through the incorporation of a cocatalyst FeOOH onto the BiVO4surface. This modified photoanode demonstrated improved performance when coupled with peroxomonosulfate (PMS) for the purpose of oxidizing tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) within the PEC system. In the presence of 0.3 mM PMS, the degradation efficiency of TCH increased from 65 % to 88 % within 60 min. The effects of PMS concentration, applied voltage and TCH concentration on the decomposition were studied in detail. Through free radical scavenging experiments, it was found that SO4•-, h+and ·OH played an important role in TCH degradation. In addition, the FeOOH/BiVO4with PMS activation in the PEC system also could be capable of dealing with some more organic pollutants (antibiotics and dyes) and achieving good degradation effect. More importantly, TCH degradation rate by FeOOH/BiVO4photoanode is still over 80 % after five cycles of reuse. This work provides a promising approach for the synthesis of novel photoanodes in the PEC systems with excellent PEC properties in removing environmental pollutants.

Abstract

For antimissile, antisatellite, or such kind of strategic defense application, laser weapon is expected to emit 100 kW power or higher level. By considering the development and its object of laser weapon, a new damnification method using mult-mode laser was presented. Using the lasers, different in wavelength, pulsed and continuous wave, frequency verified, focused on target commutatively or synchronously to get more effective result. A complex damnification model was conceived and simulated by using finite element method. A 2 kW continuous wave laser and a long pulse width laser were used in the damage comparison experiments. Both the simulation and experiments results indicate that pulsed laser is better than continuous in metal ablation, furthermore, complex laser is much better. Comparing with pulsed laser, complex laser inspires nonlinear avalanche ablation effect, which makes the ablated metal 13 times more than using pulsed laser. This nonlinear avalanche ablation effect makes a base for mult-mode coaxial combined laser weapon.

Abstract

To make the laser diode(LD) pump source of laser operate reliably in a wide ambient temperature range without temperature control system, and improve the absorption efficiency and stability of the pump light, the spectral properties of LD and the absorption spectrum properties of Nd:YAG were analyzed, then a new theory and method to design LD pump source with multi-wavelength were proposed, and the absorption length in the gain media was increased to overcome the disadvantage produced by the mismatch between the LD wavelength and the absorption peak of Nd:YAG. A LD pump source with three wavelengths(802.35 nm@25℃, 813.15 nm@25℃ and 810.95 nm@25℃) was designed. The simulation result shows that the pump light absorption efficiency can reach 73.96% under a certain absorption length, and while the ambient temperature changes from -15.7℃ to 65.7℃, the instability of the output energy is less than 5%. The influence of the absorption length and the doped concentration of Nd3+ in the laser crystal on the pump light absorption efficiency was also simulated.
