Abstract

Energy-resolving computed tomography (ErCT) has the ability to acquire energy-dependent measurements simultaneously and quantitative material information with improved contrast-to-noise ratio. Meanwhile, ErCT imaging system is usually equipped with an advanced photon counting detector, which is expensive and technically complex. Therefore, clinical ErCT scanners are not yet commercially available, and they are in various stage of completion. This makes the researchers less accessible to the ErCT images. In this work, we investigate to produce ErCT images directly from existing energy-integrating CT (EiCT) images via deep neural network. Specifically, different from other networks that produce ErCT images at one specific energy, this model employs a unified generative adversarial network (uGAN) to concurrently train EiCT datasets and ErCT datasets with different energies and then performs image-to-image translation from existing EiCT images to multiple ErCT image outputs at various energy bins. In this study, the present uGAN generates ErCT images at 70keV, 90keV, 110keV, and 130keV simultaneously from EiCT images at140kVp. We evaluate the present uGAN model on a set of over 1380 CT image slices and show that the present uGAN model can produce promising ErCT estimation results compared with the ground truth qualitatively and quantitatively., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, Accepted by MIC/NSS 2019

28. A computational mechanistic study on the Ni-catalyzed asymmetric alkynyl propyl hydroxyaminations: origin of enantioselectivity and further rational design.

Abstract

Asymmetric propargylic substitution (APS) reactions play a crucial role in synthesizing the fundamental structural units found in natural drug molecules and macromolecules. However, achieving both high yield and enantioselectivity in the synthesis of asymmetric alkynyl propyl compounds remains a formidable challenge. In this study, we present a comprehensive computational study of asymmetric alkynyl propyl hydroxyaminations catalyzed by a chiral phosphine–nickel complex. The entire catalysis can be outlined as three stages: (i) activation of propargylic carbonate 1a by the (S)-L1/Ni(0) catalyst results in Ni(II)-intermediate IM2A. (ii) Decarboxylation of IM2A, leading to Ni(II)-complex IM5A. (iii) Asymmetric propargylic substitution of IM5A with N-hydroxyphthalimide 2a to give the more stable Ni(0)-complex IM7A, followed by product (S)-3a liberation and IM1A regeneration for the next catalytic cycle with the assistance of another equiv 1a. The asymmetric propargylic substitution step, with a barrier of 21.4 kcal mol−1, should be the rate-determining step and enantioselectivity-determining step during the whole catalysis. EDA–NOCV analysis revealed that the origins of the enantioselectivity of product (S)-3a lie in the combined effects of the ligand–substrate electrostatic interactions, orbital interactions, Pauli repulsions, and dispersion interactions. Based on mechanistic study, a new biaryl bisphosphine ligand (i.e., (S)-L6) affording higher enantioselectivity was designed, which will help to improve current catalytic systems and facilitate the development of new Ni-catalyzed asymmetric alkynyl propyl hydroxyaminations. 34. An Explorative Study on Document Type Assignment of Review Articles in Web of Science, Scopus and Journals' Website

Abstract

Accurately assigning the document type of review articles in citation index databases like Web of Science(WoS) and Scopus is important. This study aims to investigate the document type assignation of review articles in web of Science, Scopus and Journals' website in a large scale. 27,616 papers from 160 journals from 10 review journal series indexed in SCI are analyzed. The document types of these papers labeled on journals' website, and assigned by WoS and Scopus are retrieved and compared to determine the assigning accuracy and identify the possible reasons of wrongly assigning. For the document type labeled on the website, we further differentiate them into explicit review and implicit review based on whether the website directly indicating it is review or not. We find that WoS and Scopus performed similarly, with an average precision of about 99% and recall of about 80%. However, there were some differences between WoS and Scopus across different journal series and within the same journal series. The assigning accuracy of WoS and Scopus for implicit reviews dropped significantly. This study provides a reference for the accuracy of document type assigning of review articles in WoS and Scopus, and the identified pattern for assigning implicit reviews may be helpful to better labeling on website, WoS and Scopus.

44. DDT-Net: Dose-Agnostic Dual-Task Transfer Network for Simultaneous Low-Dose CT Denoising and Simulation

Abstract

Deep learning (DL) algorithms have achieved unprecedented success in low-dose CT (LDCT) imaging and are expected to be a new generation of CT reconstruction technology. However, most DL-based denoising models often lack the ability to generalize to unseen dose data. Moreover, most simulation tools for LDCT typically operate on proprietary projection data, which is generally not accessible without an established collaboration with CT manufacturers. To alleviate these issues, in this work, we propose a dose-agnostic dual-task transfer network, termed DDT-Net, for simultaneous LDCT denoising and simulation. Concretely, the dual-task learning module is constructed to integrate the LDCT denoising and simulation tasks into a unified optimization framework by learning the joint distribution of LDCT and NDCT data. We approximate the joint distribution of continuous dose level data by training DDT-Net with discrete dose data, which can be generalized to denoising and simulation of unseen dose data. In particular, the mixed-dose training strategy adopted by DDT-Net can promote the denoising performance of lower-dose data. The paired dataset simulated by DDT-Net can be used for data augmentation to further restore the tissue texture of LDCT images. Experimental results on synthetic data and clinical data show that the proposed DDT-Net outperforms competing methods in terms of denoising and generalization performance at unseen dose data, and it also provides a simulation tool that can quickly simulate realistic LDCT images at arbitrary dose levels.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study is to evaluate the in vivo corneal biomechanical response to three laser refractive surgeries.Methods: Two hundred and twenty-seven patients who submitted to transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (tPRK), femtosecond laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK), or small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) were included in this study. All cases were examined with the Corvis ST preoperatively (up to 3 months) and postoperatively at 1, 3, and 6 months, and the differences in the main device parameters were assessed. The three groups were matched in age, gender ratio, corneal thickness, refractive error corrections, optical zone diameter, and intraocular pressure. They were also matched in the preoperative biomechanical metrics provided by the Corvis ST including stiffness parameter at first applanation (SP-A1), integrated inverse radius (IIR), deformation amplitude (DA), and deformation amplitude 2 mm away from apex and the apical deformation (DARatio2mm).Results: The results demonstrated a significant decrease post-operation in SP-A1 and significant increases in IIR, DA, and DARatio2mm (p p Conclusion: The corneal biomechanical response to the three surgery procedures varied significantly. With similar corneal thickness loss, the reductions in overall corneal stiffness were the highest in FS-LASIK and the lowest in tPRK.
