1. Bremsstrahlung of 5-25 keV electrons incident on MoSi$_2$, TiB$_2$ and ZrB$_2$ thick solid conductive compounds

Abstract

Absolute measurements were conducted to study the bremsstrahlung emission from ~5-25 keV electrons incident on three thick solid conductive compounds of MoSi$_2$, TiB$_2$ and ZrB$_2$. The additivity approximation was applied in the Monte Carlo PENELOPE simulations for compounds and mixtures. The results showed that in general the experimental bremsstrahlung spectra were in good agreement with the Monte Carlo simulation results, suggesting the feasibility of the additivity approximation in Monte Carlo simulations for the studied cases even in the absolute measurements and that the significant differences between experiments and Monte Carlo simulations near the Duane-Hunt limit for insulating targets in previous studies do not appear in the present studies.

Abstract

The ultralow detection threshold, ultralow intrinsic background, and excellent energy resolution of p-type point-contact germanium detector are important for rare-event searches, in particular for the detection of direct dark matter interactions, coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering, and neutrinoless double beta decay. Anomalous bulk events with an extremely fast rise time are observed in the CDEX-1B detector. We report a method of extracting fast bulk events from bulk events using a pulse shape simulation and reconstructed source experiment signature. Calibration data and the distribution of X-rays generated by intrinsic radioactivity verified that the fast bulk experienced a single hit near the passivation layer. The performance of this germanium detector indicates that it is capable of single-hit bulk spatial resolution and thus provides a background removal technique., Comment: 13 pages, 18 figures, submit to NST

6. Fast-forward scaling of atom-molecule conversion in Bose-Einstein condensates

Abstract

Robust stimulated Raman exact passages are requisite for controlling nonlinear quantum systems, with the wide applications ranging from ultracold molecules, non-linear optics to superchemistry. Inspired by shortcuts to adiabaticity, we propose the fast-forward scaling of stimulated Raman adiabatic processes with the nonlinearity involved, describing the transfer from an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate to a molecular one by controllable external fields. The fidelity and robustness of atom-molecule conversion are shown to surpass those of conventional adiabatic passages, assisted by fast-forward driving field. Finally, our results are extended to the fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic processes for the coherent superposition of atomic and molecular states.

Abstract

We report the first result on Ge-76 neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment at China Jinping Underground Laboratory. A mass of 994 g p-type point-contact high purity germanium detector has been installed to search the neutrinoless double beta decay events, as well as to directly detect dark matter particles. An exposure of 304 kg*day has been analyzed. The wideband spectrum from 500 keV to 3 MeV was obtained and the average event rate at the 2.039 MeV energy range is about 0.012 count per keV per kg per day. The half-life of Ge-76 neutrinoless double beta decay has been derived based on this result as: T 1/2 > 6.4*10^22 yr (90% C.L.). An upper limit on the effective Majorana-neutrino mass of 5.0 eV has been achieved. Abstract

Fused deposition modeling (FDM) three-dimensional (3D) printing is the process of forming a part by depositing molten thermoplastic materials layer by layer. Support structures need to be added below the overhangs or bridges in 3D printing. This paper proposes an idea for support-free FDM printing by studying the method of filament levitation. In this paper, an ultrasonic phased array device is designed, and different slender objects with length much longer than the sound wavelength are levitated in the air by multiple standing wave points. Experiments show that slender objects can be stably held at the sound pressure nodes in the standing wave field. After adding the ultrasonic field in FDM printing, the maximum deformation of single filament due to gravity on the bridge structure decreases from 5 to 2 mm. This proves that it is feasible for an ultrasonic phased array system to play an important role in the field of support-free FDM printing.

Abstract

The CDEX-10 experiment searches for light weakly interacting massive particles, a form of dark matter, at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, where approximately 10 kg of germanium detectors are arranged in an array and immersed in liquid nitrogen. Herein, we report on the experimental apparatus, detector characterization, and spectrum analysis of one prototype detector. Owing to the higher rise-time resolution of the CDEX-10 prototype detector as compared with CDEX-1B, we identified the origin of an observed category of extremely fast events. For data analysis of the CDEX-10 prototype detector, we introduced and applied an improved bulk/surface event discrimination method. The results of the new method were compared to those of the CDEX-1B spectrum. Both sets of results showed good consistency in the 0–12 keVee energy range, except for the 8.0 keV K-shell X-ray peak from the external copper.

Abstract

We present weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) search results performed using two approaches of effective field theory from the China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX), based on the data from both CDEX-1B and CDEX-10 stages. In the nonrelativistic effective field theory approach, both time-integrated and annual modulation analyses were used to set new limits for the coupling of WIMP-nucleon effective operators at 90% confidence level (C.L.) and improve over the current bounds in the low mχregion. In the chiral effective field theory approach, data from CDEX-10 were used to set an upper limit on WIMP-pion coupling at 90% C.L. We for the first time extended the limit to the mχ< 6 GeV/c2region.
