A VO2@V2C (VO@VCM) anode material is prepared for aqueous ammonium ion batteries (AmIBs) by one-step in situ oxidation of a 2D V2C MXene. Abstract

Conductive hydrogels are promising active materials for wearable flexible electronics, yet it is still challenging to fabricate conductive hydrogels with good environmental stability and electrical properties. In this work, a conductive MXene/LiCl/poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) hydrogel system was successfully prepared with an impressive conductivity of 12.2 S/m. Interestingly, the synergistic effect of MXene and a lithium bond can significantly accelerate the polymerization process, forming the conductive hydrogel within 1 min. In addition, adding LiCl to the hydrogel not only significantly increases its water retention ability, but also enhances its conductivity, both of which are important for practical applications. The flexible strain sensors based on the as-prepared hydrogel have demonstrated excellent monitoring ability for human joint motion, pulse, and electromyographic signals. More importantly, based on machine learning image recognition technology, the handwritten letter recognition system displayed a high accuracy rate of 93.5%. This work demonstrates the excellent comprehensive performance of MXene-based hydrogels in health monitoring and image recognition and shows potential applications in human–machine interfaces and artificial intelligence. 28. Rational Design of Quasi-1D Multicore–Shell MnSe@N-Doped Carbon Nanorods as High-Performance Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Abstract

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are considered one of the promising candidates for energy storage devices due to the low cost and low redox potential of sodium. However, their implementation is hindered by sluggish kinetics and rapid capacity decay caused by inferior conductivity, lattice deterioration, and volume changes of conversion-type anode materials. Herein, we report the design of a multicore–shell anode material based on manganese selenide (MnSe) nanoparticle encapsulated N-doped carbon (MnSe@NC) nanorods. Benefiting from the conductive multicore–shell structure, the MnSe@NC anodes displayed prominent rate capability (152.7 mA h g–1at 5 A g–1) and long lifespan (132.7 mA h g–1after 2000 cycles at 5 A g–1), verifying the essence of reasonable anode construction for high-performance SIBs. Systematic in situmicroscopic and spectroscopic methods revealed a highly reversible conversion reaction mechanism of MnSe@NC. Our study proposes a promising route toward developing advanced transition metal selenide anodes and comprehending electrochemical reaction mechanisms toward high-performance SIBs.

Abstract

Niobium oxide (Nb2O5) is a promising material in photocatalytic, solar cell, electronic like electron field emitters, and especially lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its adjustable morphologies, controllable crystal type, stable structure, and environmental friendliness. However, its low electrical conductivity lowers the rate performance and limits the practical applications in LIBs. Herein, we present a one-step solid-state synthesis of orthogonal Nb2O5 nanocrystals/graphene composites (Nb2O5/G) as high-performance anode materials in LIBs. Benefiting from the nanoscale crystalline structure Nb2O5 and highly-conductive graphene substrate, the as-prepared Nb2O5/G exhibits excellent electrochemical performances. Impressively, a reversible structural phase transition between orthogonal Nb2O5 and tetragonal Li1−xNbO2 (0 < x < 1) was verified by ex-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). After coupling with graphite cathode based on PF6-intercalation/deintercalation mechanisms, Nb2O5/G∥graphite dual-ion batteries (DIBs) full cell delivers good electrochemical performance in terms of cyclic performance and rate capability. We believe this work can provide a clear route towards developing advanced transition metal oxide/graphene composite anode and a comprehension of its electrochemical reaction mechanism. 50. Synthesis of spinel (Mg0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Cu0.2Zn0.2)Fe2O4 in seconds for lithium-ion battery anodes.

Abstract

High-entropy oxides (HEOs) have been considered revolutionary electrode materials due to their stable crystal structure and robust lithium storage properties. Here, we synthesize a spinel (Mg0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Cu0.2Zn0.2)Fe2O4 HEO in several seconds. This simple and effective method enhances the preparation efficiency by four orders of magnitude compared to that of the common sintering methods. As an anode material for Li-ion storage, to our knowledge, for the first time, the as-prepared HEO obtained a high reversible capacity of ∼812 mA h g−1 at 50 mA g−1 in the first cycle and an astonishing cycling stability over 650 cycles at 1 A g−1. Moreover, conversion and alloying reaction kinetics are identified during the lithiation and de-lithiation processes. Another interesting finding is that the spinel structure disappears after lithiation but recovers in the following de-lithiation stage, suggesting a homogeneous conversion reaction for the charge–discharge cycle.
