Setaria viridis is a rapid-life-cycle model panicoid grass. To identify genes that may contribute to inflorescence architecture and thus have the potential to influence grain yield in related crops such as maize, we conducted an N-nitroso-N-methylurea (NMU) mutagenesis of S. viridis and screened for visible inflorescence mutant phenotypes. Of the approximately 2,700 M2 families screened, we identified four recessive sparse panicle mutants (spp1-spp4) characterized by reduced and uneven branching of the inflorescence. To identify the gene underlying the sparse panicle1 (spp1) phenotype, we performed bulked segregant analysis and deep sequencing to fine map it to an approximately 1 Mb interval. Within this interval, we identified disruptive mutations in two genes. Complementation tests between spp1 and spp3 revealed they were allelic, and deep sequencing of spp3 identified an independent disruptive mutation in SvAUX1 (AUXIN1), one of the two genes in the ∼1 Mb interval and the only gene disruption shared between spp1 and spp3. SvAUX1 was found to affect both inflorescence development and root gravitropism in S. viridis. A search for orthologous mutant alleles in maize confirmed a very similar role of ZmAUX1 in maize, which highlights the utility of S. viridis in accelerating functional genomic studies in maize.

Monitoring soil salinity with remote sensing is difficult, but knowing the link between saline soil surface spectra, soil water, and salt transport processes might help in modeling for soil salinity monitoring. In this study, we used an indoor soil column experiment, an unmanned aerial vehicle multispectral sensor camera, and a soil moisture sensor to study the water and salt transport process in the soil column under different water addition conditions and investigate the relationship between the soil water and salt transport process and the spectral reflectance of the image on the soil surface. The observation results of the soil column show that the soil water and salt transportation process conforms to the basic transportation law of "salt moves together with water, and when water evaporates, salt is retained in the soil weight". The salt accumulation phenomenon increases the image spectral reflectance of the surface layer of the soil column, while soil temperature has no effect on the reflectance. As the water percolates down, water and salt accumulate at the bottom of the soil column. The salinity index decreases instantly after the addition of brine and then tends to increase slowly. The experimental results indicate that this work can capture the relationship between the water and salt transport process and remote sensing spectra, which can provide theoretical basis and reference for soil water salinity monitoring. Aims and objectives: To detect the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between perceived social support and burnout in Chinese palliative nurses. Background: Palliative nurses are a group that is vulnerable to burnout. Perceived social support may contribute to decreasing palliative nurses' burnout and facilitating their personal resilience, and resilience may be associated with lower levels of burnout. However, these relationships were unclear in the Chinese context. Design: A cross‐sectional design. Methods: The STROBE guideline was performed to report this study. A mixed sampling method including convenience sampling and stratified sampling was used to recruit participants, and a total of 319 palliative nurses completed the Nursing Burnout Scale, the Perceived Social Support Scale and the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale from May 2021 to September 2021. Influencing factors were primarily identified using independent‐sample t tests and one‐way ANOVA. Bootstrap method was used to detect the mediating effect of resilience. Results: The level of burnout in palliative nurses (23.4 ± 7.68) was higher than that of general nurses in China. Education level, health condition and monthly income were influencing factors of burnout. Resilience was detected as a mediator in the relationships between perceived social support and dimensions of burnout. Conclusions: Chinese palliative nurses experience a relatively high level of burnout, which may be influenced by several sociodemographic variables. Resilience could mediate the effect of perceived social support on the dimensions of burnout. Problem‐oriented and palliative‐tailored strategies should be developed to further address burnout in Chinese palliative nurses. Relevance to clinical practice: Nurse managers and policy makers should support nurse ongoing education, adopt health‐promoting interventions and optimise salary systems. In addition, perceived social support resources and resilience training programmes are also warranted. Human resource managers helped us collect some subjective data through the personnel management system. Aerosols are complex compounds that greatly affect the global radiation balance and climate system and even human health; in addition, aerosols are currently a large source of uncertainty in the numerical simulation process. The arid and semi-arid areas have fragile ecosystems with abundant dust but lack related high-accuracy aerosol data. To solve these problems, we use the bagging trees ensemble model, based on 1 km aerosol optical depth (AOD) data and multiple environmental covariates, to produce a monthly advanced-performance, full-coverage, and high-resolution (250 m) AOD product (named FEC AOD, fusing environmental covariates AOD) covering the arid and semi-arid areas. Then, based on the FEC AOD products, we analyzed the spatiotemporal AOD pattern and further discussed the interpretation of environmental covariates to AOD. The results show that the bagging trees ensemble model has a good performance, with its verification R2 values always remaining at 0.90 and the R2 being 0.79 for FEC AOD compared with AERONET AOD product. The high-AOD areas are located in the Taklimakan Desert and on the Loess Plateau, and the low-AOD areas are concentrated in southern Qinghai province. The higher the AOD, the stronger the interannual variability. Interestingly, the AOD reflected a dramatic decrease on the Loess Plateau and an evident increase in the south-eastern Taklimakan Desert, while the southern Qinghai province AODs showed almost no significant change between 2000 and 2019. The annual variation characteristics show that the AOD was largest in spring (0.267±0.200) and smallest in autumn (0.147±0.089); the annual AOD variation pattern showed different features, with two peaks in March and August over Gansu province but only one peak in April in other provinces/autonomous regions. Farmlands and construction lands have high AOD levels compared to other land cover types. Meteorological factors demonstrate the maximum interpretation ability of the AODs on all set temporal scales, followed by the terrain factors, while surface properties have the smallest explanatory abilities; the corresponding average contributions are 77.1 %, 59.1 %, and 50.4 %, respectively. The capability of the environmental covariates to explain the AOD varies seasonally in the following sequence: winter (86.6 %) > autumn (80.8 %) > spring (79.9 %) > summer (72.5 %). In this research, we provide a pathbreaking high spatial resolution (250 m) and long time series (2000–2019) FEC AOD dataset covering arid and semi-arid regions to support atmospheric and related studies in northwest China; the full dataset is available at 10.5281/zenodo.5727119 (Chen et al., 2021b). Purpose: To systematically evaluate the effects of Electronic health (eHealth) interventions on fatigue, pain, and sleep disorders in cancer survivors. Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis was conducted. Methods: Relevant studies were searched from five databases (MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled trials, CINAHL, and PsycINFO). The comprehensive literature search was done in December 2020. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effects of eHealth interventions among cancer survivors were included. Findings: Twenty‐five RCTs were included. The meta‐analysis showed that eHealth interventions had a positive impact on pain interference (SMD = −0.37, 95% CI: −0.54 to −0.20, p = 0.0001) and sleep disorders (SMD = −0.43, 95% CI: −0.77 to −0.08, p = 0.02) but not on pain severity or fatigue in cancer survivors. The sensitivity and subgroup analyses indicated that the pooled results were robust and reliable. Conclusion: eHealth interventions are effective in improving pain interference and sleep disorders in cancer survivors. Additional high‐quality RCTs are needed to test the effectiveness of eHealth interventions on fatigue, pain, and sleep disorders in cancer survivors. CLV3/ ESR ( CLE) proteins are important signaling peptides in plants. The short CLE peptide (12-13 amino acids) is cleaved from a larger pre-propeptide and functions as an extracellular ligand. The CLE family is large and has resisted attempts at classification because the CLE domain is too short for reliable phylogenetic analysis and the pre-propeptide is too variable., We used a model-based search for CLE domains from 57 plant genomes and used the entire pre-propeptide for comprehensive clustering analysis., In total, 1628 CLE genes were identified in land plants, with none recognizable from green algae. These CLEs form 12 groups within which CLE domains are largely conserved and pre-propeptides can be aligned. Most clusters contain sequences from monocots, eudicots and Amborella trichopoda, with sequences from Picea abies, Selaginella moellendorffii and Physcomitrella patens scattered in some clusters. We easily identified previously known clusters involved in vascular differentiation and nodulation. In addition, we found a number of discrete groups whose function remains poorly characterized. Available data indicate that CLE proteins within a cluster are likely to share function, whereas those from different clusters play at least partially different roles., Our analysis provides a foundation for future evolutionary and functional studies.
