7. OccRob: Efficient SMT-Based Occlusion Robustness Verification of Deep Neural Networks

Abstract

Occlusion is a prevalent and easily realizable semantic perturbation to deep neural networks (DNNs). It can fool a DNN into misclassifying an input image by occluding some segments, possibly resulting in severe errors. Therefore, DNNs planted in safety-critical systems should be verified to be robust against occlusions prior to deployment. However, most existing robustness verification approaches for DNNs are focused on non-semantic perturbations and are not suited to the occlusion case. In this paper, we propose the first efficient, SMT-based approach for formally verifying the occlusion robustness of DNNs. We formulate the occlusion robustness verification problem and prove it is NP-complete. Then, we devise a novel approach for encoding occlusions as a part of neural networks and introduce two acceleration techniques so that the extended neural networks can be efficiently verified using off-the-shelf, SMT-based neural network verification tools. We implement our approach in a prototype called OccRob and extensively evaluate its performance on benchmark datasets with various occlusion variants. The experimental results demonstrate our approach's effectiveness and efficiency in verifying DNNs' robustness against various occlusions, and its ability to generate counterexamples when these DNNs are not robust.

Abstract

Aroma is an important factor affecting the quality of tea. Fatty acids are one of precursors and their derived contributes to tea aroma considerably. In this study, we analyzed the fatty acids of Jinmudan fresh tea leaves in different stalk position. It was found that with shoot maturity increased, the content of PUFAs (Polyunsaturated fatty acids) was increased while the content of SFAs (Saturated fatty acids) and MUFAs (Monounsaturated fatty acids) gradually decreased. During the processing period, totally 704 kinds of compounds were identified, among them, 27 kinds of fatty acid-derived volatile compounds were selected including 6 kinds of aldehydes, 8 kinds of alcohols, 13 kinds of esters and their dynamic change were revealed. Finally, the character of aroma during main processing stages and processed tea was concluded by using a flavor wheel. This study results provide a theoretical basis for the improvement of processing and quality in Jinmudan black tea.

Abstract

In order to study the effect of pressure field characteristics on the lubrication and sealing of a heavy-haul locomotive gearbox, a simulation model of the gearbox internal pressure field is established by considering the sealing structure at the vent based on the computational fluid dynamics and the lattice Boltzmann method. Then the simulated results extracted at the vent are compared with the test data to verify the correctness of the simulation model. At last, the influence law of different factors on the gearbox internal pressure field is studied with this validated simulation model. The results show that the gear speed and gear steering have a great effect on the internal pressure field of the gearbox. The absolute values of the mean pressure difference or the mean values of the pressure at all the monitoring points are positively and nonlinearly correlated with the gear speed. The change of the gear steering will change the pressure difference between the upper and lower points of the gear meshing area. The pressure difference is larger when the gear rotates forward, and the gear steering also has a great impact on the pressure of other monitoring points. However, the immersion depth of the driven gear and the lubricating oil temperature (dynamic viscosity) have little effect on the gearbox internal pressure field. It can provide a theoretical basis for the operation and maintenance of the locomotive and the rational allocation of the lubricating oil.

Abstract

In this study, the contents of (Z)-3-hexenal and (E)-2-hexenal during oolong tea processing were measured and four (3Z):(2E)-hexenal isomerase (HI) genes were selected based on transcriptomic data. Meanwhile, the correlation between the changes of (Z)-3-hexenal and (E)-2-hexenal contents and related gene expression was analyzed. The results indicated that during oolong tea processing, one of the two compounds fell, while the other rose. Mechanical damage caused by tossing increased and reduced the contents of (Z)-3-hexenal and (E)-2-hexenal, respectively. Subsequent spreading contributed to the transformation of (Z)-3-hexenal into (E)-2-hexenal, resulting in an increase in the content of (E)-2-hexenal. The four selected genes all responded to mechanical stress and water deficit stress. The constructed phylogenetic tree indicated that CsHI was closely related to many germin-like proteins in plants such as tea (Camellia sinensis) and carrot (Daucus carota). This study provides a reference for clarifying the formation and transformation mechanism of volatile substances during oolong tea processing and improving the quality of oolong tea.

Abstract

We prove the existence of entire solutions of the Monge-Amp\`ere equations with prescribed asymptotic behavior at infinity of the plane, which was left by Caffarelli-Li in 2003. The special difficulty of the problem in dimension two is due to the global logarithmic term in the asymptotic expansion of solutions at infinity. Furthermore, we give a PDE proof of the characterization of the space of solutions of the Monge-Amp\`ere equation $\det \nabla^2 u=1$ with $k\ge 2$ singular points, which was established by G\'alvez-Mart\'inez-Mira in 2005. 50. The Relevance of Text and Speech Features in Automatic Non-native English Accent Identification

Abstract

This paper describes our experiments with automatically identifying native accents from speech samples of non-native English speakers using low level audio features, and n-gram features from manual transcriptions. Using a publicly available non-native speech corpus and simple audio feature representations that do not perform word/phoneme recognition, we show that it is possible to achieve close to 90% classification accuracy for this task. While character n-grams perform similar to speech features, we show that speech features are not affected by prompt variation, whereas ngrams are. Since the approach followed can be easily adapted to any language provided we have enough training data, we believe these results will provide useful insights for the development of accent recognition systems and for the study of accents in the context of language learning., Comment: Paper was originally submitted for NAACL 2018 and rejected.
