Abstract

The life detection method based on a single type of information source cannot meet the requirement of post-earthquake rescue due to its limitations in different scenes and bad robustness in life detection. This paper proposes a method based on deep neural network for multi-sensor decision-level fusion which concludes Convolutional Neural Network and Long Short Term Memory neural network (CNN+LSTM). Firstly, we calculate the value of the life detection probability of each sensor with various methods in the same scene simultaneously, which will be gathered to make samples for inputs of the deep neural network. Then we use Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to extract the distribution characteristics of the spatial domain from inputs which is the two-channel combination of the probability values and the smoothing probability values of each life detection sensor respectively. Furthermore, the sequence time relationship of the outputs from the last layers will be analyzed with Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) layers, then we concatenate the results from three branches of LSTM layers. Finally, two sets of LSTM neural networks that is different from the previous layers are used to integrate the three branches of the features, and the results of the two classifications are output using the fully connected network with Binary Cross Entropy (BEC) loss function. 2. Quality of childcare and delayed child development in left-behind children in China.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Inequalities in job opportunities and income prompts many Chinese parents to leave rural regions to work in urban regions. Their children are left behind in rural regions, subjected to worse quality of childcare that jeopardizes their development. This study aimed to examine the association between quality of childcare and delayed child development in under-three years children left behind in China. METHODS: Cross-sectional national survey was conducted in children left behind in rural China in 2017. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was used to develop a quality of childcare index. Mutlilevel analyses determined factors associated with quality of childcare and child development on a province and individual level. RESULT: The largest population of at-risk children left behind were found in higher-GDP provinces. Children left behind had the lowest mean quality of childcare score. Multilevel analysis found that province level accounted for a great proportion of variance observed. CONCLUSIONS: While migration to urban regions for work may improve household income, a trade-off in worse quality of childcare and developmental delays exists. With improving household income often being the greatest contributing factor for parental migration, policies to reduce inequalities in job opportunities and wealth between rural and urban regions are required. IMPACT: Previous studies identified higher prevalence of developmental delays in children left behind in China. However, quality of childcare has not been examined. Based on WHO's Nurturing Care Framework, we developed a quality of childcare index to assess its association with child development in children left behind. Greatest proportion of children left behind at-risk of developmental delays resided in higher-GDP states, indicating a trade-off in worse quality of childcare and developmental delays. 5. The dynamics of related diversification: Evidence from the health insurance industry following the affordable care act

Abstract

Research Summary We provide a theory of when relatedness will encourage both diversifying entry and post-entry exit. Our formal model reveals two channels through which resource sharing in combination with firm capabilities affects diversifying entry and post-entry exit. Facing business opportunities in a new segment, low capability firms from a more related segment expect to benefit from more synergies and are therefore more likely to enter than firms with similar capability but from less related segments. Post entry, unfavorable shocks in the new segment tighten the survival criteria and drive some more related but low capability firms out. These predictions are supported using data on U.S. health insurance firms' entry into and exit from the Affordable Care Act market from 2013 to 2017. Managerial Summary When would factors that favor related diversifiers' entry into a new business segment also encourage their exit post-entry? Using data on U.S. health insurance firms' entry into and exit from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) market from 2013 to 2017, we find that more related diversifiers (i.e., insurers offering Medicaid), especially the low capability ones, are more likely to enter ACA. However, facing cost shocks in the new segment, more related diversifiers, especially the low capability ones, are more likely to exit than less related diversifiers (i.e., insurers offering no Medicaid). This is consistent with our formal model that predicts a selection at entry that favors related diversifiers due to expected synergies and an adverse selection post-entry against low capability related diversifiers.

10. Investigation on frequency influence on the transverse pulsed jet in a supersonic crossflow.

Abstract

The pulsed jet is a novel and effective active mixing enhancement approach. For the transverse pulsed jet in the supersonic crossflow, the frequency influence is investigated using the three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations coupled with the SST k-ω turbulence model. The averaged flow field properties of the pulsed jet are better than those of the steady jet when considering mixing efficiency and jet penetration depth, especially for the case with the pulsed frequency being 50kHz. The flow field structures of the pulsed jet are connected with the time, with periodic wave structures generating in the flow field and moving downstream. The size of the wave structures and its distance are related to the frequency, namely the size and flow distance are relatively small at 50kHz, and it takes some time for the pulsed jet to establish its influence in the full flow field. At low frequencies, the flow field produces large fluctuations, and this may be detrimental to the stable operation of the engine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: Sigh is a cyclic brief recruitment maneuver: previous physiologic studies showed that its use could be an interesting addition to pressure support ventilation to improve lung elastance, decrease regional heterogeneity, and increase release of surfactant. Research Question: Is the clinical application of sigh during pressure support ventilation (PSV) feasible? Study Design and Methods: We conducted a multicenter noninferiority randomized clinical trial on adult intubated patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure or ARDS undergoing PSV. Patients were randomized to the no-sigh group and treated by PSV alone, or to the sigh group, treated by PSV plus sigh (increase in airway pressure to 30 cm H2O for 3 s once per minute) until day 28 or death or successful spontaneous breathing trial. The primary end point of the study was feasibility, assessed as noninferiority (5% tolerance) in the proportion of patients failing assisted ventilation. Secondary outcomes included safety, physiologic parameters in the first week from randomization, 28-day mortality, and ventilator-free days. Results: Two-hundred and fifty-eight patients (31% women; median age, 65 [54-75] years) were enrolled. In the sigh group, 23% of patients failed to remain on assisted ventilation vs 30% in the no-sigh group (absolute difference, –7%; 95% CI, –18% to 4%; P =. 015 for noninferiority). Adverse events occurred in 12% vs 13% in the sigh vs no-sigh group (P =. 852). Oxygenation was improved whereas tidal volume, respiratory rate, and corrected minute ventilation were lower over the first 7 days from randomization in the sigh vs no-sigh group. There was no significant difference in terms of mortality (16% vs 21%; P =. 337) and ventilator-free days (22 [7-26] vs 22 [3-25] days; P =. 300) for the sigh vs no-sigh group. Interpretation: Among hypoxemic intubated ICU patients, application of sigh was feasible and without increased risk.

Patients were randomized to the no-sigh group and treated by PSV alone, or to the sigh group, treated by PSV plus sigh (increase in airway pressure to 30 cm H2O for 3 s once per minute) until day 28 or death or successful spontaneous breathing trial. The primary end point of the study was feasibility, assessed as noninferiority (5% tolerance) in the proportion of patients failing assisted ventilation. Secondary outcomes included safety, physiologic parameters in the first week from randomization, 28-day mortality, and ventilator-free days. RESULTS: Two-hundred and fifty-eight patients (31% women; median age, 65 [54-75] years) were enrolled. In the sigh group, 23% of patients failed to remain on assisted ventilation vs 30% in the no-sigh group (absolute difference, -7%; 95% CI, -18% to 4%; P = .015 for noninferiority). Adverse events occurred in 12% vs 13% in the sigh vs no-sigh group (P = .852). Oxygenation was improved whereas tidal volume, respiratory rate, and corrected minute ventilation were lower over the first 7 days from randomization in the sigh vs no-sigh group. There was no significant difference in terms of mortality (16% vs 21%; P = .337) and ventilator-free days (22 [7-26] vs 22 [3-25] days; P = .300) for the sigh vs no-sigh group. INTERPRETATION: Among hypoxemic intubated ICU patients, application of sigh was feasible and without increased risk.

Abstract

1. This study investigated the effects of dietary betaine supplementation on growth performance, meat quality, muscle fatty acid composition and antioxidant ability in slow-growing broiler chickens. 2. In total, 400, one-day-old female Xueshan broiler chicks were randomly divided into five groups with eight replicates of ten chickens each for 102 d. Broilers were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0, 125, 250, 500 or 1,000 mg/kg betaine. 3. Broilers fed betaine had better feed conversion efficiency and weight gain (P < 0.05) and increased meat redness and yellowness 24 h after slaughter. Supplementation linearly decreased cooking loss and drip loss from breast muscle (P < 0.05). Muscular resilience was improved and tenderness increased (P < 0.05). Intra-muscular saturated fatty acids decreased, while total monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids increased (P < 0.05). Betaine increased activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and total superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) level, ratio of reduced glutathione/oxidised glutathione, and activity of scavenging hydroxyl radicals. It increased the activity of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) in the breast muscle (P < 0.05). Moreover, supplementation up-regulated (P < 0.05) mRNA expression levels of blood and antioxidant markers. 4. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the current research status and trends of publications on relapsed/refractory Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (r/r NHL) using CiteSpace software and to know which centers and authors we should follow in the first place while doing research on r/r NHL. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The publications were retrieved from the Web of Science Core collection database, and CiteSpace (5.5.R5) software was used to analyze the authors, institutions, countries, and keywords. RESULTS: A total of 567 publications from 2009 to 2021 were retrieved, and the most fertile authors, institutions, nationalities and keywords in the field of r/r NHL were identified. Pier Luigi Zinzani team, Kensei Tobinai team, Andre Goy team, and Julie M. Vose team are recognized the main research teams in this field. USA makes the greatest contribution having research funds for r/r NHL. Key cluster areas of research include mantle cell lymphoma, pathway, lymphoma, relapse, pixantrone, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, romidepsin, relapsed, T-cell lymphoma, and activated T cells. According to the keywords' timeline, the research trends of r/r NHL changed from bone marrow transplantation, radioimmunotherapy, chemotherapy to novel target drugs (like ibritumomab tiuxetan, inhibitor) and criteria EBM. CONCLUSIONS: The bibliometric study provides insights into hotspots and trends in the field of r/r NHL in the past 12 years. Abstract

This paper examines how incumbent firms’ market positions and interdependencies across their submarkets influence their response to the threat of entry. We adapt a model of capacity deterrence to show that because premium and low-cost incumbents face different demand functions and operating costs, they experience different tradeoffs between ignoring, deterring, and accommodating threatened entry. In addition, the interdependencies within and between a premium incumbent’s submarkets influence its response. Using data on incumbent responses to entry threats from Southwest Airlines between 2003 and 2012, we find that (1) full-service incumbents expanded capacity while low-cost incumbents did not respond significantly, and (2) full-service incumbents expanded capacity less aggressively in submarkets that had less substitutable customer segments and submarkets that were more complementary with their unthreatened submarkets.

Abstract

The energy of a Siemens reduction furnace is provided by the current heating of silicon rods. Further, owing to the temperature gradient in the silicon rod, its center temperature is considerably higher than its surface temperature. The skin effect of alternating current (AC) reduces the temperature gradient within the silicon rod. Therefore, this study essentially establishes an AC heating model of 24 pairs of rod Siemens reactor based on electromagnetic theory. The calculation results are consistent with the industrial production data, indicating that the model is accurate. The results demonstrate that when the AC frequency exceeds 50 kHz, the current density at the center of the silicon rod becomes very small, tending to zero. As the frequency continues to increase, the area where the current density is close to zero expands; further, when the AC frequency exceeds 50 kHz, there exists a constant temperature zone near the central region of the silicon rod, and as the frequency of the AC increases, the range of the constant temperature zone gradually expands outward from the center of the silicon rod. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Gastric cancer is a common malignancy, with high metastasis and poor prognosis. Our purpose was to explore potential molecular mechanisms of gastric cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 10 pairs of gastric cancer tissues and adjacent normal gastric tissues were collected for RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), followed by differential expression analysis. Combining qRT-PCR results, two novel genes were selected for in-depth analysis, including up-regulated ONECUT and down-regulated SST. To investigate the effects of ONECUT and SST on the biological behaviors of gastric cancer cells, gastric cancer cell lines were transfected by ONECUT2 knockdown and SST overexpression. Afterwards, cell migration and invasion were examined using transwell assays, and the expressions of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related proteins were measured by Western blot analysis. Furthermore, cell viability was detected by CCK-8 assay. Finally, tumorigenicity in nude mice was performed. RESULTS: Gastric cancer cell migration and invasion were inhibited in BGC823 cells transfected by shONECUT2. Similar results were observed in SST overexpression in MGC803 cells. Silencing ONECUT2 or overexpressing SST reduced the expressions of mesenchymal markers (N-cadherin and vimentin), STAT3, fibronectin, Wnt2, β-catenin and increased epithelial marker (E-cadherin), p-STAT3, smad2/3, α-catenin protein levels. In addition, inhibiting ONECUT2 or elevated SST suppressed tumor cell viability in vitro. Moreover, ONECUT2 silencing or elevated SST significantly inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Abstract

We study the insulator-quantum Hall conductor transition in two high-density gated InGaAs/InAlAs quantum well samples. We observe a well-defined critical magnetic field and verify this marks a genuine phase transition by investigating the scaling behavior of the longitudinal resistivity with field and temperature at fixed electron density. Consistent with prevailing experimental results the critical field decreases with increasing electron density in one sample (QW0710). In the other sample (QW0715), with higher delta doping density, however, we unexpectedly find that the critical field increases with increasing electron density. We report on the strong spin-orbit (SO) interaction in a gated high-mobility In0.53Ga0.47As/InP quantum well two-dimensional electron gas. We establish that the SO interaction is dominated by the Rashba mechanism. The Rashba coupling parameters determined from analysis of both weak antilocalization and the beating pattern in the Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations are in reasonable agreement, and the small difference between them was explained by a magnetic-field-dependent effective g factor. The zero-field spin splitting shows nonmonotonic behavior with a maximum as the electron density is varied with the applied gate voltage. This is related to strong Rashba SO coupling in our sample. We study the magnetotransport properties of a gated In0.53Ga0.47As/InP quantum well structure in the presence of spin splitting when only one electronic subband is occupied. We develop an analytical method to extract the quantum mobilities for the two spin subbands. Ionized impurity scattering and alloy disorder scattering are determined to be important in this system. Larger quantum mobility is found for the higher-energy spin subband. We also demonstrate that the difference between the quantum mobilities for the two spin subbands can be altered with the gate.
