For over half a century, traditional silicon-based integrated circuits (ICs) have been the basis of computational electronics and are widely used in computers, cell phones, and other fields. With the rapid development of human society, silicon-based semiconductor technology is approaching its physical and engineering limits. Our increasing diversity of non-traditional computing needs, such as ultra-small, ultra-fast, ultra-low-power wearables, and space radiation protection, is driving the search for new electronic materials. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) have many excellent electrical properties, such as high carrier mobility and high ballistic transport, making them strong candidates for new semiconductor materials in the post-Moore era. Carbon-based electronic technology has been developed for over 20 years, and the fundamental issues such as the material purification of s-SWCNTs, preparation prospects of s-SWCNT-based field-effect transistors (CNT FETs), and device physics based on CNT FETs have been basically solved. However, the chiral diversity of s-SWCNTs may lead to problems such as fluctuations in the electrical performance of CNT FETs, limiting the application of s-SWCNTs in high-end ICs. Monochiral s-SWCNTs not only have excellent electrical properties but also have a controllable structure and uniformity, which are crucial for the high-end IC of CNTs. However, some problems exist in the purity and yield of monochiral s-SWCNT preparation and the optimization of monochiral CNT FETs. Therefore, the chiral sorting of CNTs is reviewed in this paper, and the progress of polymer reprocessing in chiral separation is highlighted. Then, the research progress of monochiral CNT FETs is introduced, and possible development directions are summarized and analyzed. Finally, the application prospects of chiral-enriched s-SWCNTs include challenges and future opportunities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions of people worldwide, with no effective treatment currently available. In recent decades, various traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) and their active ingredients have shown the potential to attenuate the pathogenesis of AD in cellular and animal models. However, the effects of TCM formulas, which are typically administered in practice, have been less studied. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic effects of several formulas consisting of 4 components herbal components: catalpol, puerarin, gastrodin, and borneol, on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced AD models in cells and rats. The new object recognition (NOR), elevated plus maze (EMP), and Morris water maze (MWM) tests were used to evaluate the cognitive functions of rats. Golgi staining, Haematoxylin and Eosin (HE) staining, and Nissl staining analyses were employed assess the physiology of hippocampal tissues. Gene expression profiles were analyzed used transcriptomics and reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis, while protein expression levels were determined using immunoblotting, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence. The production of cytokines was evaluated with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results demonstrated that the combined administration of these 4 components (CPGB) had superior mitigating effects on AD cell model, as evidenced by the reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine production and decreased deposition of Aβ protein. Further in vivo and in vitro experiments confirmed that varying doses of CPGB formula effectively ameliorated STZ-induced cognitive deficits, as shown by NOR, MWM, and EMP tests, as well as pathological changes in hippocampal tissues and a 3-dimensional brain neurovascular unit (3D-NVU) model, including decreased deposition of Aβ protein and formation of plaques. Transcriptome sequencing and analysis identified 35 genes with significantly altered expression levels due to STZ and CPGB treatment in hippocampal tissues, which were enriched in the Tlr4/Myd88/NF-κB signaling pathway. Interference with this pathway significantly influenced the therapeutic effects of CPGB in the 3D-NVU model. Collectively, these findings suggest that the combined administration of catalpol, puerarin, gastrodin, and borneol offers superior therapeutic effects on AD by modulating the Tlr4/Myd88/NF-κB signaling pathway. After seizures, the hyperactivation of extracellular signal‐regulated kinases (ERK1/2) causes mitochondrial dysfunction. Through the guidance of dynamin‐related protein 1 (DRP1), ERK1/2 plays a role in the pathogenesis of several illnesses. Herein, we speculate that ERK1/2 affects mitochondrial division and participates in the pathogenesis of epilepsy by regulating the activity of DRP1. LiCl‐Pilocarpine was injected intraperitoneally to establish a rat model of status epilepticus (SE) for this study. Before SE induction, PD98059 and Mdivi‐1 were injected intraperitoneally. The number of seizures and the latency period before the onset of the first seizure were then monitored. The analysis of Western blot was also used to measure the phosphorylated and total ERK1/2 and DRP1 protein expression levels in the rat hippocampus. In addition, immunohistochemistry revealed the distribution of ERK1/2 and DRP1 in neurons of hippocampal CA1 and CA3. Both PD98059 and Mdivi‐1 reduced the susceptibility of rats to epileptic seizures, according to behavioral findings. By inhibiting ERK1/2 phosphorylation, the Western blot revealed that PD98059 indirectly reduced the phosphorylation of DRP1 at Ser616 (p‐DRP1‐Ser616). Eventually, the ERK1/2 and DRP1 were distributed in the cytoplasm of neurons by immunohistochemistry. Inhibition of ERK1/2 signaling pathways downregulates p‐DRP1‐Ser616 expression, which could inhibit DRP1‐mediated excessive mitochondrial fission and then regulate the pathogenesis of epilepsy. Objective: The objective of this study is to determine whether inhibition of mitophagy affects seizures through Clathrin‐mediated endocytosis (CME). Methods: Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) was intraperitoneally injected daily to establish a chronic PTZ‐kindled seizure. The Western blot (WB) was used to compare the differences in Parkin protein expression between the epilepsy group and the control group. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the expression of MitoTracker and LysoTracker. Transferrin‐Alexa488 (Tf‐A488) was injected into the hippocampus of mice. We evaluated the effect of 3‐methyladenine (3‐MA) on epilepsy behavior through observation in PTZ‐kindled models. Results: The methylated derivative of adenine, known as 3‐MA, has been extensively utilized in the field of autophagy research. The transferrin protein is internalized from the extracellular environment into the intracellular space via the CME pathway. Tf‐A488 uses a fluorescent marker to track CME. Western blot showed that the expression of Parkin was significantly increased in the PTZ‐kindled model (p < 0.05), while 3‐MA could reduce the expression (p < 0.05). The fluorescence uptake of MitoTracker and LysoTracker was increased in the primary cultured neurons induced by magnesium‐free extracellular fluid (p < 0.05); the fluorescence uptake of Tf‐A488 was significantly decreased in the 3‐MA group compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Following hippocampal injection of Tf‐A488, both the epilepsy group and the 3‐MA group exhibited decreased fluorescence uptake, with a more pronounced effect observed in the 3‐MA group. Inhibition of mitophagy by 3‐MA from day 3 to day 9 progressively exacerbated seizure severity and shortened latency. Significance: It is speculated that the aggravation of seizures by 3‐MA may be related to the failure to remove damaged mitochondria in time and effectively after inhibiting mitochondrial autophagy, affecting the vesicle endocytosis function of CME and increasing the susceptibility to epilepsy. Summary: Abnormal mitophagy was observed in a chronic pentylenetetrazol‐induced seizure model and a Mg2+‐free‐induced spontaneous recurrent epileptiform discharge model. A fluorescent transferrin marker was utilized to track clathrin‐mediated endocytosis. Using an autophagy inhibitor (3‐methyladenine) on primary cultured neurons, we discovered that inhibition of autophagy led to a reduction in fluorescent transferrin uptake, while impairing clathrin‐mediated endocytosis function mediated by mitophagy. Finally, we examined the effects of 3‐methyladenine in an animal model of seizures showing that it exacerbated seizure severity. Ultimately, this study provides insights into potential mechanisms through which mitophagy regulates clathrin‐mediated endocytosis in epilepsy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electro catalysts play a vital role in facilitating the reaction process in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) of fuel cells. In methanol fuel cells, methanol easily penetrates the diaphragm rendering the ORR catalyst inactive. Although commercial platinum exhibits excellent ORR catalytic activity, its poor methanol resistance and long-time durability severely restrict its sustainable development and application. This work synthesized Ti4O7/CNT nanocomposite electrocatalysts by using the sol-gel method followed by high-temperature carbothermal reduction. The obtained catalysts exhibit a large electrochemically active surface area (347.89 cm2) and low interfacial charge transfer resistance (64.5 Ω). The reduction potential (0.73 V), onset potential (0.93 V), half-wave potential (0.73 V), and electron transfer number (3.7) of this electrocatalyst are all close to those of the Pt/C electrocatalysts in alkaline medium. Simultaneously, it also possesses remarkable methanol tolerance and long-term durability, whose relative current density can maintain above 74% after cycling for 24 h. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The microstructure mechanisms and mechanical properties of 0.23C-1.96Si-1.94Cr-1.93 Mn-0.35 Mo ultra-high strength steel treated by the deep cryogenic treatment at −196 °C were investigated after the steel was hot rolled at different temperatures. Experimental results show that austenitizing zone rolling with a large reduction in a single pass can comprehensively enhance the mechanical properties due to the high volume of retained austenite and refined lath martensite and bainite. The high strain gradient was suppressed, and tensile strength, yield strength, impact toughness, and total elongation were 2221 MPa, 2017 MPa, 65.5 J, and 16.9%, respectively. In addition, the austenitizing zone rolling can promote the formation of film retained austenite more than dual phase zone rolling, and retained austenite was decreased with an increase in rolling pass in a total rolling reduction of 75%. It is demonstrated that deep cryogenic treatment after austenite zone rolling with a large reduction is the proper method to enhance strength and toughness via refinement strengthening and retained austenite. This work not only reveals that the effects of refinement strengthening and high strain gradients can be markedly improved by deep cryogenic treatment after austenitizing zone rolling with large reduction strategies, but also provides a realistic preparation technology for the exploitation of superior steel applications.
