We present an analysis of 288 young stellar objects (YSOs) in the Perseus Molecular Cloud that have well defined $g$ and $r$-band lightcurves from the Zwicky Transient Facility. Of the 288 YSOs, 238 sources (83% of our working sample) are identified as variables based on the normalized peak-to-peak variability metric, with variability fraction of 92% for stars with disks and 77% for the diskless populations. These variables are classified into different categories using the quasiperiodicity ($Q$) and flux asymmetry ($M$) metrics. Fifty-three variables are classified as strictly periodic objects that are well phased and can be attributed to spot modulated stellar rotation. We also identify 22 bursters and 25 dippers, which can be attributed to accretion burst and variable extinction, respectively. YSOs with disks tend to have asymmetric and non-repeatable lightcurves, while the YSOs without disks tend to have (quasi)periodic lightcurves. The periodic variables have the steepest change in $g$ versus $g-r$, while bursters have much flatter changes than dippers in $g$ versus $g-r$. Periodic and quasiperiodic variables display the lowest variability amplitude. Simple models suggest that the variability amplitudes of periodic variables correspond to changes of the spot coverage of 30% to 40%, burster variables are attributed to accretion luminosity changes in the range of $L_{\rm acc}/L_{\star}=0.1-0.3$, and dippers are due to variable extinction with $A_{V}$ changes in the range of $0.5-1.3\;$mag., Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in RAA

The bound state of a $\tau^+\tau^-$ pair by the electromagnetic force is the heaviest and smallest QED atom. Since the discovery of the two lightest QED atoms more than 60 years ago, no evidence for the third one has been found. We demonstrate that the $J_\tau$ ($\tau^+\tau^-$ atom with $J^{PC}=1^{--}$) resonance signal can be observed with a significance larger than $5\sigma$ including both statistical and systematic uncertainties, via the process $e^+e^-\to X^+ Y^- \slashed{E}$ ($X,\,Y=e$, $\mu$, $\pi$, $K$, or $\rho$, and $\slashed{E}$ is the missing energy) with $1.5~{\rm ab^{-1}}$ data taken around the $\tau$ pair production threshold. The $\tau$ lepton mass can be measured in a precision of 2 keV with the same data sample. Mid-infrared (mid-IR) variability in young stellar objects (YSOs) is driven by several physical mechanisms, which produce a variety of amplitudes and light curve shapes. One of these mechanisms, variable disk accretion is predicted by models of episodic accretion to drive secular variability, including in the mid-IR. Because the largest accretion bursts are rare, adding new objects to the YSO eruptive variable class aids our understanding of the episodic accretion phenomenon and its possible impact on stellar and planetary formation. A previous analysis of 6.5 yr of NeoWISE light curves (3-5 $\mu$m) of ~7000 nearby YSOs found an increase in the fraction of variability and variability amplitude for objects at younger stages of evolution. To help interpret these light curves, we have obtained low- and high-resolution near-IR spectra of 78 objects from this sample of YSOs. In this work, we present the analysis of nine nearby YSOs (d$<$1 kpc) that show the characteristics of known classes of eruptive variable YSOs. We find one FUor-like source, one EX Lupi-type object, and six YSOs with mixed characteristics, or V1647 Ori-like objects. The varied characteristics observed in our sample are consistent with recent discoveries of eruptive YSOs. We discuss how a wide range in YSO outburst parameters (central mass, maximum accretion rate during outburst, evolutionary stage and/or instability leading to the outburst) may play a significant role in the observed spectro-photometric properties of YSO outbursts., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS on 14 March 2023

Identifying the young optically visible population in a star-forming region is essential for fully understanding the star formation event. In this paper, We identify 211 candidate members of the Perseus molecular cloud based on Gaia astronomy. We use LAMOST spectra to confirm that 51 of these candidates are new members, bringing the total census of known members to 856. The newly confirmed members are less extincted than previously known members. Two new stellar aggregates are identified in our updated census. With the updated member list, we obtain a statistically significant distance gradient of $\rm 4.84\;pc\;deg^{-1}$ from west to east. Distances and extinction corrected color-magnitude diagrams indicate that NGC 1333 is significantly younger than IC 348 and the remaining cloud regions. The disk fraction in NGC 1333 is higher than elsewhere, consistent with its youngest age. The star formation scenario in the Perseus molecular cloud is investigated and the bulk motion of the distributed population is consistent with the cloud being swept away by the Per-Tau Shell., Comment: 27 pages, 14 figures, 1 table; Accepted for publication in ApJ

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) can eliminate all detector side-channel loopholes and has shown excellent performance in long-distance secret keys sharing. Conventional security proofs, however, require additional assumptions on sources and that can be compromised through uncharacterized side channels in practice. Here, we present a general formalism based on reference technique to prove the security of MDI-QKD against any possible sources imperfection and/or side channels. With this formalism, we investigate the asymptotic performance of single-photon sources without any extra assumptions on the state preparations. Quantum digital signature (QDS) guarantee the unforgeability, nonrepudiation and transferability of signature messages with information-theoretical security, and hence has attracted much attention recently. However, most previous implementations of QDS showed relatively low signature rates or/and short transmission distance. In this paper, we report a proof-of-principle phase-encoding QDS demonstration using only one decoy state. Firstly, such method avoids the modulation of vacuum state, thus reducing experimental complexity and random number consumption. Moreover, incorporating with low-loss asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers and real-time polarization calibration technique, we have successfully achieved higher signature rate, e.g., 0.98 bit/s at 103 km, and to date a record-breaking transmission distance over 280-km installed fibers. The measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) protocol plays an important role in quantum communications due to its high level of security and practicability. It can be immune to all side-channel attacks directed on the detecting devices. However, the protocol still contains strict requirements during state preparation in most existing MDI-QKD schemes, e.g., perfect state preparation or perfectly characterized sources, which are very hard to realize in practice. In this letter, we investigate uncharacterized MDI-QKD by utilizing a three-state method, greatly reducing the finite-size effect. The only requirement for state preparation is that the state are prepared in a bidimensional Hilbert space. Furthermore, a proof-of-principle demonstration over a 170 km transmission distance is achieved, representing the longest transmission distance under the same security level on record., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

A detailed theoretical derivation of the cross sections of $e^+e^- \to e^+e^-$ and $e^+e^- \to \mu^+\mu^-$ around the $J/\psi$ resonance is reported. The resonance and interference parts of the cross sections, related to $J/\psi$ resonance parameters, are calculated. Higher-order corrections for vacuum polarization and initial-state radiation are considered. An arbitrary upper limit of radiative correction integration is involved. Full and simplified versions of analytic formulae are given with precision at the level of 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively. To measure the $R$ value in an energy scan experiment with $\ee$ collisions, precise calculation of initial state radiation is required in event generators. We present an event generator for this consideration, which incorporates initial state radiation effects up to the second order accuracy, and the radiative correction factor is calculated using the totally hadronic Born cross section. The measured exclusive processes are generated according to their cross sections, while the unknown processes are generated using the LUND Area Law model, and its parameters are tuned with data collected at $\sqrt s=3.65$ GeV. The optimized values are validated with data in the range $\sqrt s=2.2324\sim3.671$ GeV.
