We observed a light-induced enhancement of the tunneling current propagating through an array of parallel carbon chains anchored between gold nanoparticles (NPs). In the presence of laser radiation characterized by a wavelength close to the plasmon resonance of the NPs, the current-voltage characteristics of carbon bundle tunnelling junctions demonstrate a pronounced asymmetry between positive and negative bias values. Such an asymmetry is typical for a Schottky junction, in general. The resistance of the tunnel junction decreases with the increase of the optical pumping intensity. We associate the observed effect with an injection of `hot' carriers created in Au NPs due to the decay of the surface plasmons accompanied by the charge transfer to the carbon bundles. The observed phenomenon can be used for non-resonant excitation of excitonic states in low-dimensional carbon-based structures for single-photon emission, as well as for photovoltaic applications., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures

We keep track of the orbital degree of freedom of an exciton polariton condensate, confined in an optical trap, and reveal the stochastic switching of persistent annular polariton currents in the pulse-periodic excitation regime.In an elliptic trap, the low-lying in energy polariton current states are inherent in a two-petalled density distribution and swirling phase. In the stochastic regime, the averaged over multiple excitation pulses density distribution gets homogenised in the azimuthal direction, while the weighted phase extracted from interference experiments experiences two compensating each other jumps, when varying around the center of the trap. Breaking the reciprocity of the system with a supplemental control optical pulse makes it possible to switch the system from the stochastic regime to the deterministic regime of an arbitrary polariton circulation.

The recent discovery of superconductivity in hole-doped planar nickelates R1-xSrNiO2 (R=Pr,Nd) raises the foundational question of how the electronic structure and electronic correlations of these Ni1+ compounds compare to those of the Cu2+ cuprate superconductors. Here, we present an Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) study of the trilayer nickelate Pr4Ni3O8, revealing an electronic structure and Fermi surface very similar to that of the hole-doped cuprates but with a few critical differences. Specifically, the main portions of the Fermi surface are extremely similar to that of the bilayer cuprates, with an additional piece that can accommodate additional hole doping. We find that the electronic correlations are about twice as strong in the nickelates and are almost k-independent, indicating that they originate from a local effect-likely the Mott interaction, whereas the cuprate interactions are somewhat less local. Nevertheless, the nickelates still demonstrate an approximately linear in energy and linear in temperature scattering rate. Magnetic topological insulators (TI) provide an important material platform to explore quantum phenomena such as quantized anomalous Hall (QAH) effect and Majorana modes, etc. Their successful material realization is thus essential for our fundamental understanding and potential technical revolutions. By realizing a bulk van der Waals material MnBi4Te7 with alternating septuple [MnBi2Te4] and quintuple [Bi2Te3] layers, we show that it is ferromagnetic in plane but antiferromagnetic along the c axis with an out-of-plane saturation field of ~ 0.22 T at 2 K. Our angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements and first-principles calculations further demonstrate that MnBi4Te7 is a Z2 antiferromagnetic TI with two types of surface states associated with the [MnBi2Te4] or [Bi2Te3] termination, respectively. Additionally, its superlattice nature may make various heterostructures of [MnBi2Te4] and [Bi2Te3] layers possible by exfoliation. In cuprate superconductors, high magnetic fields have been used extensively to suppress superconductivity and expose the underlying normal state. Early measurements revealed insulating-like behavior in underdoped material versus temperature $T$, in which resistivity increases on cooling with a puzzling $\log(1/T)$ form. We instead use microwave measurements of flux-flow resistivity in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6+y}$ and Tl$_2$Ba$_2$CuO$_{6+\delta}$ to study charge transport deep inside the superconducting phase, in the low temperature and low field regime. Here, the transition from metallic low-temperature resistivity ($d\rho/dT>0$) to a $\log(1/T)$ upturn persists throughout the superconducting doping range, including a regime at high carrier dopings in which the field-revealed normal-state resistivity is Fermi-liquid-like. The $\log(1/T)$ form is thus likely a signature of $d$-wave superconducting order, and the field-revealed normal state's $\log(1/T)$ resistivity may indicate the free-flux-flow regime of a phase-disordered $d$-wave superconductor., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures + Supplementary Material
