Few diazotrophs have been found to belong to the family Cytophagaceae so far. In the present study, a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium that forms red colonies, was isolated from sands of the Takalamakan desert. It was designated H4XT. Phylogenetic and biochemical analysis indicated that the isolate is a new species of the genus Pontibacter. The 16S rRNA gene of H4XT displays 94.2–96.8% sequence similarities to those of other strains in Pontibacter. The major respiratory quinone is menaquinone-7 (MK-7). The DNA G+C content is 46.6 mol%. The major cellular fatty acids are iso-C15∶0, C16∶1ω5c, summed feature 3 (containing C16∶1ω6c and/or C16∶1ω7c) and summed feature 4 (comprising anteiso-C17∶1B and/or iso-C17∶1I). The major polar lipids are phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), one aminophospholipid (APL) and some unknown phospholipids (PLs). It is interesting to see that this bacterium can grow very well in a nitrogen-free medium. PCR amplification suggested that the bacterium possesses at least one type of nitrogenase gene. Acetylene reduction assay showed that H4XT actually possesses nitrogen-fixing activity. Therefore, it can be concluded that H4XT is a new diazotroph. As typical electrode materials for supercapacitors, low specific capacitance and insufficient cycling stability of transition metal oxides (TMOs) are still the problems that need to be solved. Design of core-shell structure is considered as an effective method for preparation of high-performance electrode materials. In this work, NiO flakes@CoMoO4 nanosheets/Ni foam (NiO flakes@CoMoO4 NSs/NF) core-shell architecture was constructed by a two-step hydrothermal method. Interestingly, the CoMoO4 NSs are vertically grown on the surface of NiO flakes, forming a two-dimensional (2D) branched core-shell structure. The porous core-shell architecture has relatively high surface area, effective ions channels, and abundant redox sites, resulting in excellent electrochemical performance. As a positive electrode for supercapacitors, NiO flakes@CoMoO4 NSs/NF core-shell architecture exhibits excellent capacitive performance in terms of high specific capacitance (1097 F/g at 1 A/g) and outstanding cycling stability (97.5% after 2000 circles). The assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) of NiO flakes@CoMoO4 NSs/NF//active carbon (AC)/NF possesses a maximum energy density of 25.8 Wh/kg at power density of 894.7 W/kg. The results demonstrate that NiO flakes@CoMoO4 NSs/NF electrode displays potential applications in supercapacitors and the design of 2D branched core-shell architecture paves an ideal way to obtain high-performance TMOs electrodes. Canine parvovirus (CPV) has been considered to be an important pathogen, which can cause acute infectious disease in canids. Although current vaccines are effective in preventing CPV infection, safety problems still remain unsolved. In this study, a subunit vaccine against CPV based on virus-like particles (VLPs) with good safety and immunogenicity is reported. Soluble CPV VP2 protein was produced by co-expression of chaperone trigger factor (Tf16) in Escherichia coli (E.coli), and assembled into CPV VLPs which could be affected by NaCl and pH. At 250 mM NaCl pH 8.0, the VLPs co-expressed with Tf16 had similar size (25 nm) and shape with the authentic virus capsid under the transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which is also in accordance with the dynamic light scattering (DLS) data. Immunization with these particles could induce high-titer hemagglutination inhibition (1:12288) and neutralizing antibodies (1:6144) in guinea pigs. Splenic cells of them could secrete IFN-γ and IL-4 after stimulation by CPV. Thus, the VLPs produced by the new approach with high yield and immunogenicity could be a potential candidate for CPV vaccine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Microfold (M) cells act as antigen-sampling sites for initiating antigen specific mucosal immune responses, but they may also provide a gateway for enteropathogen entry. In this study we demonstrated villous M cells by morphological and immunohistochemical methods to be present in the three regions of the small intestine from newborn piglets. Immunohistochemical analysis, using anti- cytokeratin 18 (CK18) primary antibodies, showed a gradually decreased density of M cells from the lower crypt epithelium to the upper villous epithelium. The proportion of villous M cells was greater in the ileum than in the duodenum or the midjejunum. Ultrastructural observation revealed that villous M cells were mainly columnar in shape in the duodenum and the mid-jejunum, and appeared as more pocket-like structure in the ileum. These villous M cells exhibited short and irregular microvilli, rich vesicles and reduced glycocalyx, but lacked the lymphocyte-containing basolateral invagination. Our results support evidence that M cells can develop in the small intestinal villous epithelium of newborn piglets, implying that villous M cells may begin developing in the pig's small intestine during fetal stages, which depends neither on the influence of the mucosal lymphoid tissue nor the antigen from the intestinal lumen stimulation. In addition, the variable morphology and heterogeneity distribution of villous M cells in the three regions of the small intestine may be indicative of its different functional properties. This information extent our understanding of the diversity of M cells and provides important basic knowledge for further research on the actual role of villous M cells in neonate. Abstract: This paper proposes a transcritical CO2 power cycle driven by solar energy while utilizing the cold heat rejection to an liquified natural gas (LNG) evaporation system. In order to ensure a continuous and stable operation for the system, a thermal storage system is introduced to store the collected solar energy and to provide stable power output when solar radiation is insufficient. A mathematical model is developed to simulate the solar-driven transcritical CO2 power cycle under steady-state conditions, and a modified system efficiency is defined to better evaluate the cycle performance over a period of time. The thermodynamic analysis focuses on the effects of some key parameters, including the turbine inlet pressure, the turbine inlet temperature and the condensation temperature, on the system performance. Results indicate that the net power output mainly depends on the solar radiation over a day, yet the system is still capable of generating electricity long after sunset by virtue of the thermal storage tank. An optimum turbine inlet pressure exists under given conditions where the net power output and the system efficiency both reach maximum values. The net power output and the system efficiency are less sensitive to the change in the turbine inlet temperature, but the condensation temperature exerts a significant influence on the system performance. The surface area of heat exchangers increases with the rise in the turbine inlet temperature, while changes in the turbine inlet pressure have no significant impact on the heat exchanging area under the given conditions. Background: Neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT) is an immune disorder characterized by maternal antibodies that destroy fetal platelets, leading to thrombocytopenia. The prevalence of NAIT is approximately 0.05% to 0.15%. Fetal and neonatal severe thrombocytopenia represents the most common form of the disease, primarily occurring in firstborn children. It poses a greater risk and harm to the fetus and newborn. Neonatal intracranial hemorrhage is a severe complication of NAIT, resulting in irreversible damage to cranial nerves and potential neonatal death., Objective: This study aims to assess the current advancements in the pathogenesis, clinical characteristics, laboratory evaluation, and therapeutic interventions for neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia., Methods: This narrative review explores neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia through a thorough literature review. The study encompasses the pathogenesis, clinical features, laboratory examination, and treatment options associated with this condition., Results: The results of this study highlight that despite the extremely low incidence of NAIT, it carries a high risk. Currently, there is no timely and effective prevention method available. However, using HPA-1a as a screening item for prenatal prevention shows the potential to reduce the mortality rate of NAIT fetuses. Further research is required to evaluate its accuracy and specificity., Conclusions: The findings of this review emphasize the need for further research to develop effective prevention methods. The use of HPA-1a as a screening tool holds promise but requires additional investigation. Enhancing clinical understanding of NAIT will contribute to improved management and outcomes for affected infants.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), a significant viral infectious disease that commonly occurs among farmed pigs, leads to considerable economic losses to the swine industry worldwide. Major vault protein (MVP) is a host factor that induces type Ⅰ interferon (IFN) production. In this study, we evaluated the effect of MVP on PRRSV infection in CRL2843 CD163 cell lines and porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs). Our results showed that MVP expression was downregulated by PRRSV infection. Adenoviral overexpression of MVP inhibited PRRSV replication, whereas the siRNA knockdown of MVP promoted PRRSV replication. In addition, MVP knockdown has an adverse effect on the inhibitive role of MVP overexpression on PRRSV replication. Moreover, MVP could induce the expression of type Ⅰ IFNs and IFN-stimulated gene 15 (ISG15) in PRRSV-infected PAMs. Based on these results, MVP may be a potential molecular target of drugs for the effective prevention and treatment of PRRSV infection.

In this work, Ni(OH) 2 nanocages@MnO 2 nanosheets core-shell architecture (Ni(OH) 2  NCs@MnO 2 NSs CSA) was successfully prepared through coordinated etching and precipitation (CEP) route followed by hydrothermal reaction, and then tested as sensitive electrode material for detection of dopamine (DA). The three dimensional (3D) hollow Ni(OH) 2 core effectively prevented the aggregation of MnO 2 NSs, leading to high utilization rate of MnO 2 NSs. Meanwhile, the two dimensional (2D) MnO 2 shell endowed Ni(OH) 2  NCs with larger specific area and abundant diffusion channels, facilitating mass transport. Ni(OH) 2  NCs@MnO 2 NSs CSA modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) exhibited two satisfying sensitivities of 467.1 and 1249.9 μA mM -1 cm -2 within the two linear ranges of 0.02-16.30 μM and 18.30-118.58 μM, respectively. Furthermore, Ni(OH) 2  NCs@MnO 2 NSs CSA/GCE presented low detection limit of 1.75 nM and short response time of 1.14 s. Overall, Ni(OH) 2  NCs@MnO 2 NSs/GCE looks promising for analytical sensing of DA thanks to its prominent electrocatalytic dynamic issued from the 3D hollow structure@2D nanosheets core-shell architecture., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V.
