PURPOSE: To investigate the association of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in chromosome 9p21.3 and chronic periodontitis in the Han Chinese population. METHODS: rs2891168, rs1333048 and rs1333042 genotypes of randomly grouped 172 healthy control subjects and 221 patients with chronic periodontitis(CP) were genotyped by TaqMan probe real -time fluorescent quantitative PCR. Statistical analysis of Chi-square test was performed using SPSS16.0 software package. RESULTS: Rs2891168 was closely associated with chronic periodontitis (P=0.003), and the frequency of G allele was higher in the patients compared with the control (48.36% vs 40.00%, OR = 1.209, 95% CI: 1.001-1.461, P= 0.045). Rs1333048 and rs1333042 were not associated with chronic periodontitis. CONCLUSIONS: There is SNP correlated with chronic periodontitis in chromosome 9p21.3, which indicates that the 9p21.3 locus may be the susceptible region. However, the mechanism remains unclear. Abstract: Micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) is a powerful treatment developed to remove heavy metals from wastewater. Efficient removal of Cd2+/Zn2+ from wastewater was performed by MEUF using a polysulfone hollow ultrafiltration membrane, with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the surfactant. The adsorption of surfactant micelles and Cd2+/Zn2+ in MEUF was studied by changing the surfactant dosage and the Cd2+/Zn2+ concentration in the feed. In addition, kinetics, adsorption isotherms, and thermodynamic rules were analyzed, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was conducted. It was found that when the Cd2+/Zn2+ feed concentration was 50mg/L, and the SDS dosage reached 2.15g/L, the concentration of heavy metal ions in the permeate stabilized at around 1–4mg/L, and the adsorption of Cd2+/Zn2+ on SDS micelles followed second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm laws. • Microwave-assisted hydrothermal carbonization of pig feces was studied. • Raising reaction temperature/time or adding H 2 SO 4 as a catalyst reduces hydrochar yield. • Raising solid-liquid ratio or adding CaO as a catalyst increases hydrochar yield. • Heavy metals and N/P/K nutrients in hydrochars are passivated to a certain extent. • CaO and H 2 SO 4 improve the agronomic and surface properties of hydrochar, respectively. In this study, microwave-assisted hydrothermal carbonization of pig feces is investigated. The yield of hydrochar decreases with increasing reaction temperature/time, while it increases with rising solid-liquid ratio. The addition of CaO raises the yield of hydrochar, while the use of H 2 SO 4 reduces the yield of hydrochar. Under non-catalytic conditions or with CaO as catalyst, most of P and heavy metals (Zn, Cr, Cu, Cd, Pb, and Ni) are retained in hydrochar, while large amounts of K/N are migrated into process water. In the presence of H 2 SO 4 , the migration of P and heavy metals (except Cu) into process water is significantly enhanced. Compared to raw pig feces, hydrochars exhibit higher thermal stability and porosity, and contain lower contents of soluble N/P/K nutrients. Micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration was used to remove Cu2+ (Cu2+ was fixed at 0.6 mmol/L) from simulant aqueous solutions with SDS and SDBS as anionic surfactants respectively. Compare SDS and SDBS separation through permeate flux, permeate concentration, rejection and enrichment ratio. Experimental results show that the average permeate flux with SDS is always higher than that with SDBS [the average flux with SDS is 29.92 L x (m2 x h)(-1), while that with SDBS is only 16.55 L x (m2 x h)(-1)], the permeate concentration of SDS is always lower than that with SDBS. When the permeate concentration of Cu2+ close to zero, 2 mmol/L and 6 mmol/L of SDBS and SDS are respectively required. Cu2+ rejection and enrichment ratio with SDS are always higher than those with SDBS (the average Cu2+ rejection and enrichment ratio with SDS are respectively 85.06% and 4.18, while those with SDBS are 69.05% and 4.05 respectively). Besides, the average enrichment ratio of SDS is also higher than that of SDBS (SDS is up to 3.89, while SDBS is 3.13). Therefore, SDS is more suitable than the SDBS for removal of Cu2+.
