Chirality-dependent photocatalysis is an emerging domain that leverages unique chiral light-matter interactions for enabling asymmetric catalysis driven by spin polarization induced by circularly polarized light selection. Herein, we synthesize chiral inorganic polar BaTiO 3 /BaCO 3 nanohybrids for asymmetric photocatalysis via a hydrothermal method employing chiral glucose as a structural inducer. When excited by opposite circularly polarized light, the same material exhibits significant asymmetric catalysis, while enantiomers present an opposite polarization preference. More importantly, the preferred circularly polarized light undergoes reversal with reversal of the CD signal. Systematic experimental results demonstrate that more photogenerated carriers are generated in chiral semiconductors under suitable circularly polarized light irradiation, including more spin-polarized electrons, which inhibits the recombination of electron-hole pairs and promotes the activation of oxygen molecules into reactive oxygen species, thus inducing this asymmetric photocatalytic feature. This study provides valuable insights for the development of highly efficient polarization-sensitive chiral perovskite nanostructures as promising candidates for next-generation, multifunctional chiral device applications.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), although considered non-immunogenic, is often resistant to chemotherapy agents during the course of treatment in clinical patients. Melittin (C 131 H 229 N 39 O 31 , CAS: 20449-79-0), the major component of honey bee venom, is a promising anticancer drug. However, the mechanism employed by melittin to reverse chemotherapy resistance of NSCLC cells remains unknown. In this study, the Cell Counting Kit 8, ethynyl deoxyuridine assay, and other assays were utilized to elucidate the melittin effects upon cell proliferation. Proteomics, lung cancer (LC) tissue chip, and Western blot analysis were used to identify potential targets of melittin. A549/DDP cells were employed to investigate the melittin effects against cisplatin resistance. Also, an in vivo animal experiment was conducted to further clarify the regulatory function of melittin towards cisplatin resistance of A549/DDP cells. Results showed that melittin inhibited malignant progression of A549/DDP cells by down-regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 3 (PDK3)-mediated aerobic glycolysis and inhibition of heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) expression. The therapeutic effect of melittin was increased by combination with KNK437 and impaired chemotherapy resistance regarding A549/DDP cells via reversing aerobic glycolysis. The in vivo experiments confirmed that melittin incremented A549/DDP cell cisplatin sensitivities. Collectively, the data suggested that melittin suppressed aerobic glycolysis by regulating HSF1/PDK3, which incremented cisplatin sensitivity of A549/DDP cells. Lithium-sulfur batteries have attracted worldwide interest due to their high theoretical capacity of 1672 mAh g -1 and low cost. However, the practical applications are hampered by capacity decay, mainly attributed to the polysulfide shuttle. Here, the authors have fabricated a solid core-shell γ-MnO 2 -coated sulfur nanocomposite through the redox reaction between KMnO 4 and MnSO 4 . The multifunctional MnO 2 shell facilitates electron and Li + transport as well as efficiently prevents polysulfide dissolution via physical confinement and chemical interaction. Moreover, the γ-MnO 2 crystallographic form also provides one-dimensional (1D) tunnels for the Li + incorporation to alleviate insoluble Li 2 S 2 /Li 2 S deposition at high discharge rate. More importantly, the MnO 2 phase transformation to Mn 3 O 4 occurs during the redox reaction between polysulfides and γ-MnO 2 is first thoroughly investigated. The S@γ-MnO 2 composite exhibits a good capacity retention of 82% after 300 cycles (0.5 C) and a fade rate of 0.07% per cycle over 600 cycles (1 C). The degradation mechanism can probably be elucidated that the decomposition of the surface Mn 3 O 4 phase is the cause of polysulfide dissolution.
