5. X-Structure of Torque Adjustable Formed by 3-D Printing With Embedded Optical Fiber Bending for Vibration Sensing

Abstract

Inexpensive, lightweight, sensitive, compact, easy-to-install, and mass-producible vibration sensors are the future wave. This article validates the use of a 3-D-printed doublet bracket that turns out to be a scissor-like X-structure with scissor-like kinematics when vibrating. The main concept is simple: an intact standard single-mode fiber (SMF) is folded into a droplet-bending shape and embedded in an arch bridge-type assembly connected to an X-shaped structure. When regular vibrations are transmitted to the X-structure, the continuous scissor motion of the X-structure drives the arch bridge-type assembly to regularly extend and shrink, thereby changing the size of the fiber bending, creating variations in the optical loss, and allowing for the measurement of the vibration. In addition, the sensitivity of the vibration measurement can be adjusted by altering the torque by varying the intersection angle of the doublet bracket in the X-structure or the fiber loss by varying the number of turns of fiber bending. In this way, the sensitivity can be adjusted according to the magnitude of the vibration amplitude of the object being measured in various measurement scenarios. For instance, if the vibration amplitude is weak, a high-sensitivity frame will be utilized for the measurement, and vice versa. Furthermore, this 3-D-printed-based X-structure and fiber-bending-based vibration sensor can be integrated with free-space optics (FSOs) for more versatile measurements in various applications. In summary, this scheme showcases an affordable, lightweight, variable-sensitivity, simple, and easily mass-producible fiber-optic vibration sensing technology.

Abstract

To quantitatively study the operating efficiency of right-turning vehicles at signalized intersection, a travel time model was established on the basis of gap theory and queue theory, which was under the assumption that the straight flow of non-motor headway followed the combined negative exponential distribution and right-turning flow headway followed the negative exponential distribution. Comparison was clone by field observation data, and the reasons of the results were analyzed and the applicability of the model was set up. Three significant factors can exert apparent effects on travel time, involving right-turning flow rate, following car headway and critical gap. The travel time model of fight-turning vehicles at intersection established in this paper is efficient, practical and with strong applicability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two cluster-based microporous MOFs containing coordination unsaturated metal(ii) sites (or open metal(ii) sites) have been constructed from boxlike or cagelike {M3}xSBUs. They both exhibit highly selective uptake for CO2over CH4and N2under ambient conditions. More importantly, MOF-1 also provides an ideal luminescence sensor for selective probing Ba2+and Cu2+ions based on significant luminescence enhancement or quenching.

Abstract: A 1D polyoxometalate chain has been constructed from a {Mo16Ni16P24} cluster linked by two {NiO6} edge-shared octahedrons. This chained molybdenum nickel phosphate, Na2[Ni(H2O)8][Ni2(H2O)6][(Mo16O32)Ni16(OH)8(H2PO4)4(HPO4)16(PO4)4(H2O)8]·14H2O (1), crystallizes under hydrothermal reaction and in the monoclinic space group C2/m. Abstract

An observation was conducted at the wastewater treatment plant in a refinery in Guangdong province, using the PFPH-GC/MS method to analyze the composition and the concentration of volatile carbonyl compounds. The emission characteristics and the atmospheric chemical reactivity of these compounds were also studied. The results showed that 20 kinds of carbonyl compounds were detected with a concentration range of 0 to 68.80 microg x m(-3). The mean value of total concentration in all processing unit was (253.02 +/- 124.5) microg x m(-3). Background corrected concentrations showed that for each of the 6 treatment units of the plant, over 90% of the volatile carbonyl emissions were contributed by 14 of the 20 volatile carbonyl compounds, among which aldehyde was the most abundant with an average concentration of (44.74 +/- 20.89) microg x m(-3), followed by 2-butanone and acetaldehyde with average concentrations of (30.47 +/- 12.94) microg x m(-3) and (23.51 +/- 14.57) microg x m(-3), respectively. Several molecular markers were identified based on the analysis of the chemical activities and atmospheric lifetimes of the 20 carbonyl compounds. Finally, a source profile was established for the plant.
