Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) has been implemented in the upper alluvial plain of the Chaobai River, significantly affecting the groundwater level and causing it to rise. However, the effects of the MAR on land subsidence,remain largely unknown. To elucidate the effects of MAR on land subsidence, a comprehensive analysis was undertaken, integrating interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data, extensometer measurements, and groundwater level observations.Our analysis revealed a discernible land rebound phenomenon, with rates escalating from 2.3 mm/a in 2015 to 20 mm/a in 2021. This rebound extends southwestward, following a dispersion pattern that aligns with pre-existing fault structures, suggesting their controlling influence. The groundwater level changes caused by the MAR can cause land rebound, especially near fault footwalls. However,low permeability in fault zones hinders groundwater flow in the hanging wall resulting in slight land deformation. Lithology also affects rebound, with sandy soils showing more significant land rebound, while low-sand areas exhibit limited or delayed rebound. These findings offer crucial insights into the interplay between MAR, groundwater dynamics, and land subsidence in the studied region. They provide a foundation for informed decision-making in groundwater replenishment strategies and precise subsidence prevention and control measures. Future research should maintain a vigilant monitoring of the long-term consequences of MAR on land subsidence to ensure sustainable regional development.

Flexible electrothermal heaters have attracted abundant attention in recent years due to their wide applications, but their preparation with high efficiency remains a challenge. Here in this work, a highly stable and bending-tolerant flexible heater was fabricated with graphite nanosheets and cellulose fibers through a scalable papermaking procedure. Its electrothermal property can be enhanced by a hot-pressing treatment and introduction of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) during the papermaking protocol. The flexible heater may quickly reach its maximum temperature of 239.8 °C in around 1 min at a voltage of 9 V. The power density was up to 375.3 °C cm2 w−1. It appeared to have a high tolerance for bending deformation with various curvatures, and the temperature remained stable even under 100 bending with frequency of around 0.17 Hz. Over 100 alternatively heating and cooling cycles, it worked stably as well. It was proved to be used as wearable heating equipment, soft heaters, and aircraft deicing devices, suggesting its great prospect in the field of heat management.

In order to better understand the advantages and disadvantages of Ni-P and Ni-Cu-P coatings, Ni-P and Ni-Cu-P coatings were deposited on surface of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) by electroless plating. Deposition rates of electroless Ni-P coating and Ni-Cu-P coating under different processes were compared. Surface morphology, composition and structure of the coatings were investigated through scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Microhardness tester, surface roughness tester and MM-200 wear testing machine were used to evaluate the hardness, surface roughness and wear resistance of the coatings. The electrochemical performance and electromagnetic shielding performance of coatings were compared and studied through electrochemical performance and electromagnetic shielding performance tests. Results showed that electroless Ni-Cu-P coating had higher deposition rate. Ni-Cu-P coating was of a dense mixed crystal cauliflower-like structure, with higher hardness, better wear resistance in the later stage of wear, and better electromagnetic shielding performance. Whereas, the Ni-P coating was of a dense amorphous nodular structure with a smoother surface, better wear resistance in the early stage of wear, and better electrochemical performance.

Summary: An increasing demand for electric vehicles and flexible electronics focuses attention on developing a safe, high-energy, and sustainable battery that can work under severe conditions. Emerging high-voltage aqueous batteries based on highly concentrated salts and molecular crowding electrolytes are likely to be hampered by their poor low-temperature performance because of a high freezing point and salting out at low temperature. Inspired by the antifreezing ionogel electrolyte for transport measurements at subzero temperatures, we design a water-in-ionogel electrolyte with a low salt-concentration (2m NaTFSI) and high operational voltage (3.0 V) by changing the hydrogen bonding and introducing fluoride additives for low-temperature operation. A full cell with a P2-type Na2/3Mn2/3Co1/3O1.98F0.02 cathode and hard-carbon anode could deliver high energy densities of 109 and 23.4 Wh kg−1 at room temperature and −25°C. This eco-friendly aqueous polymeric battery could be free sealed and perform in water. This work opens an avenue for designing high-energy, free-sealed aqueous batteries for low-cost, sustainable energy storage, enabling subzero temperature operation.

Abstract Background & Aims Although the prognosis of patients with occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (OBI) is usually benign, a small portion may undergo cirrhosis and subsequently hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We studied the mechanism of life-long Integration of virus DNA into OBI host’s genome, of which may induce hepatocyte transformation. Methods We applied HBV capture sequencing on single cells from an OBI patient who, developed multiple HCC tumors and underwent liver resection in May 2013 at Tongji Hospital in China. Despite with the undetectable virus DNA in serum, we determined the pattern of viral integration in tumor cells and adjacent non-tumor cells and obtained the details of the viral arrangement in host genome, and furthermore the HBV integrated region in cancer genome. Results HBV captured sequencing of tissues and individual cells revealed that samples from multiple tumors shared two viral integration sites that could affect three host genes, including CSMD2 on chr1 and MED30/EXT1 on chr8. Whole genome sequencing further indicated one hybrid chromosome formed by HBV integrations between chr1 and chr8 that was shared by multiple tumors. Additional 50 poorly differentiated liver tumors and the paired adjacent non-tumors were evaluated and functional studies suggested up-regulated EXT1 expression promoted HCC growth. We further observed that the most somatic mutations within the tumor cell genome were common among the multiple tumors, suggesting that HBV associated, multifocal HCC is monoclonal in origin. Conclusion Through analyzing the HBV integration sites in multifocal HCC, our data suggested that the tumor cells were monoclonal in origin and formed in the absence of active viral replication, whereas the affected host genes may subsequently contribute to carcinogenesis.

Background Water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) are divided into river buffalo and swamp buffalo subspecies and are essential livestock for agriculture and the local economy. Studies on buffalo reproduction have primarily focused on optimal fertility and embryonic mortality. There is currently limited knowledge on buffalo embryonic development, especially during the preimplantation period. Assembly of the river buffalo genome offers a reference for omics studies and facilitates transcriptomic analysis of preimplantation embryo development (PED). Methods We revealed transcriptomic profile of four stages (2-cell, 8-cell, Morula and Blastocyst) of PED via RNA-seq (Illumina HiSeq4000). Each stage comprised three biological replicates. The data were analyzed according to the basic RNA-seq analysis process. Ingenuity analysis of cell lineage control, especially transcription factor (TF) regulatory networks, was also performed. Results A total of 21,519 expressed genes and 67,298 transcripts were predicted from approximately 81.94 Gb of raw data. Analysis of transcriptome-wide expression, gene coexpression networks, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) allowed for the characterization of gene-specific expression levels and relationships for each stage. The expression patterns of TFs, such as POU5F1, TEAD4, CDX4 and GATAs, were elucidated across diverse time series; most TF expression levels were increased during the blastocyst stage, during which time cell differentiation is initiated. All of these TFs were involved in the composition of the regulatory networks that precisely specify cell fate. These findings offer a deeper understanding of PED at the transcriptional level in the river buffalo.
