BackgroundObservational research suggests that hypotension is a potential hazard factor of delirium. Nevertheless, previous observational articles are limited in their ability to establish causality between hypotension and delirium. The present study was sought to explore the genetic causal relationship between these two conditions using two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR).MethodsGenome-wide association study (GWAS) summarized data for hypotension and delirium were obtained from the FinnGen Consortium. The researchers utilized several statistical methods, such as inverse-variance weighted (IVW), weighted median, MR Egger, weighted mode, and simple mode in conducting the MR statistical analysis. In order to identify heterogeneity among the MR outcomes, we employed the Cochrane’s Q test. Furthermore, we used the MR-Egger intercept test and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outliers (MR-PRESSO) test to examine horizontal pleiotropy.ResultsThe findings revealed that hypotension was identified as an independent hazard variable for delirium (p = 0.010, odds ratio [OR] [95% confidence interval (CI)] = 1.302 [1.066–1.592]) using the IVW method. The presence of horizontal pleiotropy was found to have minimal impact on establishing causal relationship (p = 0.999), and there was no evidence to suggest heterogeneity between genetic variations (p = 0.379). Additionally, the leave-one-out method demonstrated the stability and robustness of this association.ConclusionWe performed two-sample MR analyses and found evidence of a genetic causal relationship between hypotension and delirium. Our findings suggest that individuals with a genetic predisposition for hypotension may have a higher risk of developing delirium. This suggests that interventions aimed at improving perioperative hypotension could aid in limiting the incidence of delirium.

BackgroundThe aim of the present study was to build and internally validate a nomogram model for predicting prolonged length of stay (PLOS) among patients receiving free vascularized flap reconstruction of head and neck cancer (HNC).MethodsA retrospective clinical study was performed at a single center, examining patients receiving free vascularized flap reconstruction of HNC from January 2011 to January 2019. The variables were obtained from the electronic information system. The primary outcome measure was PLOS. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to find risk factors for predicting PLOS. A model was then built according to multivariate results. Internal validation was implemented via 1000 bootstrap samples.ResultsThe study included 1047 patients, and the median length of stay (LOS) was 13.00 (11.00, 16.00) days. Multivariate analysis showed that flap types ((radial forearm free flap (odds ratio [OR] = 2.238; 95% CI, 1.403-3.569; P = 0.001), free fibula flap (OR = 3.319; 95% CI, 2.019-4.882; P < 0.001)), duration of surgery (OR = 1.002; 95% CI, 1.001-1.003; P = 0.004), postoperative complications (OR = 0.205; 95% CI, 0.129-0.325; P = P < 0.001) and unplanned reoperation (OR = 0.303; 95% CI, 0.140-0.653; P = 0.002) were associated with PLOS. In addition to these variables, blood transfusion was comprised in the model. The AUC of the model was 0.78 (95% CI, 0.711–0.849) and 0.725 (95% CI, 0.605–0.845) in the primary and internal validation cohorts, respectively. The DCA revealed the clinical utility of the current model when making intervention decisions within the PLOS possibility threshold range of 0.2-0.8.ConclusionsOur study developed a nomogram that exhibits a commendable level of accuracy, thereby aiding clinicians in assessing the risk of PLOS among patients receiving free vascularized flap reconstruction for HNC.

Temperature control is important in second harmonic generation (SHG) based on non-critical phase matching, which is widely used in the accelerator field to generate drive lasers. To further improve the stability of the drive laser for the DC-SRF photocathode electron gun at Peking University, a high-precision temperature control oven for lithium borate (LBO) crystals was developed. The oven’s structure was designed to minimize heat exchange with the external environment. The temperature control circuit uses a thermoelectric cooler to ensure the temperature stability of the sampling circuit. The program utilizes a cascaded proportional-integral-derivative and an anti-saturation integral algorithm to achieve high-precision temperature control. Experiments showed that fluctuation at the working temperature of the LBO crystal in this oven was within ±0.009 °C, corresponding to a root mean square (RMS) jitter of 0.003 °C, and the long-term power fluctuation of the 13.7 W green laser generated with SHG was less than 1%.

Photo-assisted SCR (PSCR) offers a potential solution for removal of NO at room temperature. MnTiOx as PSCR catalyst exhibits superior performance with NO removal of 100% at the room temperature. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis revealed the presence of numerous oxygen vacancies on MnTiOx. Optical carrier density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that the three-dimensional orbital hybridization of Mn and Ti is significantly enhanced under light irradiation. The MnTiOx catalyst exhibited excellent electron–hole separation ability, which can adsorbe NH3 and dissociate to form NH2 fragments and H atoms. In-situ diffuse reflectance infrared fourier-transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) indicated that the optical carrier enhanced NH3 adsorption on MnTiOx, which makes it possess excellent PSCR activity. This work provided an additional strategy to NO removal with PSCR catalysts and showed potential for use in photocatalysis.

At present, low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors are widely used in the sampling industry, manufacturing industry and energy industry. However, the research on low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors is far from enough. The primary difficulty in the initial design of low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors is the selection of pole–slot ratio. The pole–slot ratio has a great influence on the electromagnetic performance such as torque ripple and the maximum output torque of low-speed motors. Choosing the appropriate pole–slot ratio scheme can make the design of a low-speed motor more efficient. In addition, the optimization design of the motor is also a necessary process. At present, there are many studies on optimization algorithms. However, the research on sample point sampling and surrogate model fitting is not enough. Choosing the appropriate sample point sampling method and surrogate model fitting method can help one obtain a more accurate surrogate model, which lays a foundation for the optimization of the motor. Based on the above analysis, this paper first selects four representative pole–slot ratio schemes for comprehensive comparison of their electromagnetic performances. Secondly, two sample point sampling methods and three surrogate model fitting methods are combined to obtain six surrogate models, and the accuracy of the six surrogate models is compared and analyzed. Finally, a 37kW,160rpm prototype is made, and the comparison of the surrogate model optimization prediction results, the finite element simulation calculation results and the measured results is carried out to further prove the accuracy of the selected surrogate model. The work performed in this paper provides a certain reference value for the initial design and optimization experiment design of low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motor.

miRNA is a type of classic non-coding RNA which is enriched in cancer. Various studies reported that miRNA be involved in the progression and metastasis of TSCC. Exploring pivotal miRNAs and elaborating the mechanisms inducing metastasis are important for improving the prognosis of TSCC patients. Here, Let-7b miRNA was identified as a significant factor contributing to metastasis of TSCC via directly targeting the 3′UTR of MOR mRNA, which leads to abnormally high expression of MOR protein. MOR might bind with SRC and potentially activate p-EGFR through SRC. As a treatment modality, Let-7b miRNA mimics were encapsulated into the endosomal pH-responsive nanoparticles. NPs (Let-7b miRNA mimics) significantly inhibited Cal27 cells in vitro and in vivo metastatic model. Altogether, our data revealed that Let-7b miRNA-MOR-SRC-EGFR axis might be an effective therapeutic target in TSCC metastasis.

Cu-SSZ-13 zeolites are highly active for standard NH3-SCR, but their activity is unexpectedly inhibited in the presence of NO2. This work demonstrates that strong oxidation by NO2 forces Cu ions to exist mainly as CuII species with low mobility, which is responsible for this distinctive behavior.

PurposeThe objectives were to investigate the safety and efficacy of thermal ablation as an alternative to liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma patients with clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH).Materials and MethodsFrom July 2016 to September 2019, hepatocellular carcinoma patients with CSPH treated by liver transplantation (N=37) or thermal ablation (N=114) were enrolled. Cumulative intrahepatic recurrence, overall survival and major complications were compared by propensity score matching.ResultsIn the two matched groups, the 1-, 2-, and 3-year intrahepatic recurrence rates for the ablation group (22.3%, 50.0%, and 50.0%, respectively) were significantly higher than those for the transplantation group (4.5%, 4.5%, and 4.5%, respectively) (P=0.016). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year overall survival rates were comparable between the two groups [96.1%, 88.7%, and 88.7%, respectively (ablation group) vs. 84.6%, 76.2%, and 76.2%, respectively (transplantation group)] (P=0.07). Background: Patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) is an increasingly used method to control postoperative pain. We aimed to investigate the association between PCIA and recovery after flap reconstruction in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods: Patients with OSCC who underwent flap reconstruction between 2016 and 2020 were reviewed (n=850). Baseline characteristics were compared between PCIA and non-PCIA groups. Propensity score matching (PSM) (1:4) was introduced to eliminate these confounding factors (n=505). Univariate analysis was performed to compare matched PCIA and non-PCIA group. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed before and after PSM to identify factors that influenced length of stay (LOS) in hospital. The differences in characteristics of matched and unmatched groups were also compared. At present, many scientific experiments are carried out in extreme conditions. Pilots need to perform high-intensity tasks for a long time. Human error is an essential factor affecting mission execution. To deeply study the physiological characteristics of different erroneous states of consciousness, we used an improved double-choice Oddball paradigm to collect brain electrophysiological signals of volunteers and pilots in missions and analyze event-related potential (ERP), time-frequency, and brain function spectrum, extracting EEG indicators sensitive to error awareness. The results showed that, in the 300∼500 ms time window, the error awareness type was correlated with Pe amplitude. Meanwhile, the time-frequency and brain functional spectrum analysis showed that the amplitude of the aware errors α-ERS oscillation, the functional spectral density of the α-band, and the uncertain errors were more prominent than unaware errors. The error awareness of the pilots showed the same EEG sensitivity characteristics in flight as in the ground volunteer experiment, and the characteristic sensitivity value was higher than that of the ground participants. We analyzed the EEG indicators sensitive to error awareness and determined the differences in EEG characteristics when pilots have error awareness on the ground and in flight. This study provides theoretical guidance for the follow-up research on the intervention measures against error awareness and determines the target point positioning.

In this study, a transcriptomic analysis of the dehydration rate of mature rice seeds was conducted to explore candidate genes related to the dehydration rate and provide a theoretical basis for breeding and utilization. We selected two rice cultivars for testing (Baghlani Nangarhar, an extremely rapid dehydration genotype, and Saturn, a slow dehydration genotype) based on the results determined by previous studies conducted on the screening of 165 germplasm materials for dehydration rate phenotypes. A rapid dehydration experiment performed on these two types of seeds was conducted. Four comparative groups were set up under control and dehydration conditions. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were quantified via transcriptome sequencing and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). GO (Gene ontology) and KEGG(Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) analyses were also conducted. In Baghlani Nangarhar, 53 DEGs were screened, of which 33 were up-regulated and 20 were down-regulated. In Saturn, 25 DEGs were screened, of which 19 were up-regulated and 6 were down-regulated. The results of the GO analysis show that the sites of action of the differentially expressed genes enriched in the rapid dehydration modes are concentrated in the cytoplasm, internal components of the membrane, and nucleosomes. They play regulatory roles in the processes of catalysis, binding, translocation, transcription, protein folding, degradation, and replication. They are also involved in adaptive responses to adverse external environments, such as reactive oxygen species and high temperature. The KEGG analysis showed that protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, amino acid biosynthesis, and oxidative phosphorylation were the main metabolic pathways that were enriched. The key differentially expressed genes and the most important metabolic pathways identified in the rapidly and slowly dehydrated genotypes were protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum and oxidative phosphorylation metabolism. They were presumed to have important regulatory roles in the mechanisms of stress/defense, energy metabolism, protein synthesis/folding, and signal transduction during the dehydration and drying of mature seeds. The results of this study can potentially provide valuable information for further research on the genes and metabolic pathways related to the dehydration rate of mature rice seeds, and provide theoretical guidance for the selection and breeding of new rice germplasm that can be rapidly dehydrated at the mature stage.

Abstract Background Unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) within the context of concurrent sexual relationship are prevalent among men who have sex with men (MSM) who have regular male sex partners and it aggravates the risk of HIV infection among this community. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of intimate relationship characteristics on UAI among MSM couples at the dyadic level. Methods Two hundred four MSM couples were recruited from a HIV testing clinic from April 2017 to April 2018 in Guangzhou, China. The actor-partner interdependence model (APIM) was applied for dyadic analysis. Each MSM couple was divided into the insertive role and the receptive role according to their regular anal sex role. In this context, actor effect is the impact of an MSM’s intimate relationship characteristics on his own UAI, and partner effect is the impact of his partner’s intimate relationship characteristics on his UAI. Results Of the 408 participants, 58.82% had UAI with regular male sex partner (UAI-RP) and 8.09% had concurrent UAI. Intimate relationship characteristics were associated with concurrent UAI, but not associated with UAI-RP. In the current article, the effect of Si/Al ratio on the NOx adsorption and storage capacity over Pd/Beta with 1 wt% Pd loading was investigated. The XRD, 27Al NMR and 29Si NMR measurements were used to determine the structure of Pd/Beta zeolites. XAFS, XPS, CO-DRIFT, TEM and H2-TPR were used to identify the Pd species. The results showed that the NOx adsorption and storage capacity on Pd/Beta zeolites gradually decreased with the increase of Si/Al ratio. Pd/Beta-Si (Si-rich, Si/Al~260) rarely has NOx adsorption and storage capacity, while Pd/Beta-Al (Al-rich, Si/Al~6) and Pd/Beta-C (Common, Si/Al~25) exhibit excellent NOx adsorption and storage capacity and suitable desorption temperature. Pd/Beta-C has slightly lower desorption temperature compared to Pd/Beta-Al. The NOx adsorption and storage capacity increased for Pd/Beta-Al and Pd/Beta-C by hydrothermal aging treatment, while the NOx adsorption and storage capacity on Pd/Beta-Si had no change.

Improving the specific activity and thermostability of psychrophilic xylosidase is important for improving its enzymatic performance and promoting its industrial application. Herein, a psychrophilic xylosidase AX543 exhibited activity in the temperature range between 0 and 35 °C, with optimum activity at 20 °C, which is lower than that of other reported psychrophilic xylosidases. The thermostability, specific activity, and catalytic efficiency of the site-directed variants G110S, Q201R, and L2 were significantly enhanced, without affecting the optimal reaction temperature. Comparative protein structural analysis and molecular dynamics simulation indicated that these improvements might be the result of the increased hydrogen bonds interaction and improved structural rigidity. Furthermore, homologous module substitution with four segments demonstrated that the psychrophilic characteristics of AX543 are the results of the whole protein structure, and the C-terminal segment A4 appears to be more essential in determining psychrophilic characteristics, exhibiting potentiality to produce more psychrophilic xylosidases. This study provides valuable structural information on psychrophilic xylosidases and also offers attractive modification strategies to modify catalytic activity, thermostability, and optimal reaction temperature.

With the continuous improvement in the man-machine-designed fighter aircraft, the pilot training intensity has increased. Complex special operation of the fighter aircraft is greatly affected by flight conditions and human control reliability, which imposes a great burden on the pilot psychophysiologically. To understand the intensity of the stress on the pilot, which is a crucial parameter, accurate evaluation of the changes in the stress intensity of the pilot during the flight is very important. This study aimed to analyze the stress intensity of pilots by collecting electrocardiogram (ECG) signals during the long flight involving 11 pilot trainees. First, an improved soft-threshold denoising method for the ECG data and an improved differential threshold method were used to process the first-order difference and the threshold value to the filtered signal to determine the R wave. Then, the multiscale analysis method was used to fuse the area of the heart rate curve of the pilots. The method of flight training and the division of the stress stage were derived. Further, the functional relationship of the stress intensity with the frequency of training was constructed. All these effectively improved the performance of the flight operation training and helped make a reasonable training plan. This was of great practical significance to the measurement and evaluation of the stress state of the individuals in dangerous jobs, such as special flight operations, high-altitude skydiving, bungee jumping, etc.

Citric acid (CA) can regulate the balance of anions and cations in plants, and improve their resistance to heavy metals. It is not clear if foliar application with CA has any effect on migration of Cd and Mn in rice plant. In this work, a low-Cd-accumulating indica rice line (P7) and a high-Cd-accumulating line (HZ) were used to investigate the influence of CA on the transport of Cd and Mn as well as amino acid metabolism in grains. Content of Cd in grains and other organs increased with the increase of Cd content (0.1–2.4 mg kg−1) in soil, while decreased with the foliar application with CA. With the increase of Cd content in rice grains, the content of most amino acids in HZ, P7, HZ+CA and P7 + CA showed an obvious decline trend. Foliar application with CA efficiently raised the Mn:Cd ratio in grains and nodes of both HZ and P7. Meanwhile, the expression levels of OsNramp2, 3 and 5 in panicles were efficiently enhanced by CA application when plants grew in soil with Cd content of 0.6–2.4 mg kg−1. The increasing effect of CA on the content of 4 amino acids (i.e., Glu, Phe, Thr and Ala) in grains was related to varieties and Cd pollution. These results indicate that foliar application with CA can regulate the transport of Cd and Mn in the opposite directions in tissues and inhibit Cd accumulation in grains by enhancing expression of OsNRAMP 2, 3 or 5 and triggering the defense response of some amino acids in Cd-contaminated environment.

The main research on manipulator teleoperation includes robust of high-degree of freedom manipulators, sensor measurement accuracy, time delay, and mechanical structure design. Increased mental capacity requirements for complex assignments result in an increased mental workload. Spatial cognitive ability was considered to be the key factor affecting teleoperation performance. To accomplish this, we had 50 participants performed teleoperation while recorded their electroencephalogram. Electroencephalogram data of each task were divided into two periods, which correspond to the observation and large-scale transfer stages of teleoperation, respectively (period 1) and adjust the attitude of the manipulator to approach and align with the target stage (period 2). Brain topographic maps of period 1 (period 1 wavelet packet energy minus resting state wavelet packet energy) and period 2 (period 2 wavelet packet energy minus resting state wavelet packet energy) show that the frontal, central, and occipital regions are the main working areas of low spatial cognitive operators in period 1, while the frontal, central, and occipital regions are the main working areas of high spatial cognitive operators in period 1. The main changes in period 2 were frontal, central, parietal, and occipital regions. This study has implication for the analysis of electroencephalogram signal characteristics of mental workload in different populations to improve operators’ well-being and safety at teleoperation work.

Although many 3D head pose estimation methods based on monocular vision can achieve an accuracy of 5°, how to reduce the number of required training samples and how to not to use any hardware parameters as input features are still among the biggest challenges in the field of head pose estimation. To aim at these challenges, the authors propose an accurate head pose estimation method which can act as an extension to facial key point detection systems. The basic idea is to use the normalised distance between key points as input features, and to use ℓ1‐minimisation to select a set of sparse training samples which can reflect the mapping relationship between the feature vector space and the head pose space. The linear combination of the head poses corresponding to these samples represents the head pose of the test sample. The experiment results show that the authors’ method can achieve an accuracy of 2.6° without any extra hardware parameters or information of the subject. In addition, in the case of large head movement and varying illumination, the authors’ method is still able to estimate the head pose.

This study aimed to investigate the current contract rate and residents’ willingness to contract with general practitioner (GP) services in Guangzhou, China, during the policy trial phase, and also to explore the association of behavior contract and contract willingness with variables based on Andersen’s Behavioral Model of Health Services Use (ABM). In total, 160 residents from community health centers (CHCs) and 202 residents from hospitals were recruited in this study. The outcome variables were behavior contract and contract willingness. Based on the framework of ABM, independent variables were categorized as predisposing factors, enabling factors, need factors, and CHC service utilization experiences. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis models were applied to explore the associated factors. Out of 362 participants, 14.4% had contracted with GP services. For those who had not contracted with GP services, only 16.4% (51 out of 310) claimed they were willing to do so. The contract rate for community-based participants was significantly higher than that for hospital-based participants. Major reasons for not choosing to contract were perceiving no benefit from the service and concerns about the quality of CHCs. Community health center experiences and satisfaction were significantly associated with contracting among hospital-based participants. A need factor (diagnosed with hypertension or diabetes) and CHC service utilization experiences (have gotten services from the same doctor in CHCs) were significantly associated with contract willingness among CHC-based participants. Intervention to improve awareness of GP services may help to promote this service. Different intervention strategies should be used for varying resident populations.

Working memory (WM) components are altered after total sleep deprivation (TSD), both with respect to information replacement and result judgment. However, the electrophysiological mechanisms of WM alterations following sleep restriction remain largely unknown. To identify such mechanisms, event-related potentials were recorded during the n-back WM task, before and after 36 h sleep deprivation. Thirty-one young volunteers participated in this study and performed a two-back WM task with simultaneous electroencephalography (EEG) recording before and after TSD and after 8 h time in bed for recovery (TIBR). Repeated measures analysis of variance revealed that, compared to resting wakefulness, sleep deprivation induced a decrease in the P200 amplitude and induced longer reaction times. ERP-component scalp topographies results indicated that such decrease primarily occurred in the frontal cortex. The N200 and P300 amplitudes also decreased after TSD. Our results suggest that decreased information replacement of WM occurs after 36 h of TSD and that 8 h TIBR after a long period of TSD leads to partial restoration of WM functions. The present findings represent the EEG profile of WM during mental fatigue.

There is a continuing need to develop effective materials for the environmental remediation of copper-contaminated sites. Nano-MnO2–biochar composites (NMBCs) were successfully synthesized through the reduction of potassium permanganate by ethanol in a biochar suspension. The physicochemical properties and morphology of NMBCs were examined, and the Cu(II) adsorption properties of this material were determined using various adsorption isotherms and kinetic models. The adsorption capacity of NMBCs for Cu(II), which was enhanced by increasing the pH from 3 to 6, was much larger than that of biochar or nano-MnO2. The maximum adsorption capacity of NMBCs for Cu(II) was 142.02 mg/g, which was considerably greater than the maximum adsorption capacities of biochar (26.88 mg/g) and nano-MnO2 (93.91 mg/g). The sorption process for Cu(II) on NMBCs fitted very well to a pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.99). Moreover, this process was endothermic, spontaneous, and hardly influenced by ionic strength. The mechanism of Cu(II) adsorption on NMBCs mainly involves the formation of complexes between Cu(II) and O-containing groups (e.g., COO–Cu and Mn–O–Cu). Thus, NMBCs may serve as effective adsorbents for various environmental applications, such as wastewater treatment or the remediation of copper-contaminated soils.
