Abstract The relationship between the oxidative balance score (OBS) and the serum Klotho level has yet to be defined. We sought to investigate the potential relationship between OBS and the serum Klotho level in the U.S. population aged 40–79 years. This study included 8,145 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) database spanning from 2007 to 2016. The OBS consisted of the dietary OBS and the lifestyle OBS, based on 16 dietary components and 4 lifestyle components. Weighted multiple linear regressions were performed to explore the association between OBS and serum Klotho level. Furthermore, nonlinear relationships were analyzed through the application of restricted cubic splines (RCS). In the multivariate linear regression model with adjustment for such as demographics, economic income and dietary intake, a higher OBS was associated with a higher serum Klotho, with the beta estimate and 95%CI of 2.85 (1.03–4.68, p 0.05). The association between OBS and serum Klotho level was consistent across age, sex, education, marital status, energy intake and poverty income ratio (PIR) (P interaction>0.05). The study reported significant association between OBS and klotho, indicating that adherence to antioxidant behaviors may be linked to slower aging and better health.

ABSTRACT Background The association between inflammation and brain iron deposition is widely acknowledged. However, the precise causal impact of peripheral inflammatory cytokines on changes in brain iron content remains uncertain. Methods The study utilized an available genome‐wide association study (GWAS) summary associated with inflammatory cytokines from The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study and the FINRISK surveys. The GWAS data for brain iron markers were obtained from the UK Biobank. We assessed the iron content of each brain region using susceptibility‐weighted magnetic resonance imaging, utilizing both quantitative susceptibility mapping and T2* measurements. The primary outcomes were susceptibility (χ) and T2*, which serve as indices of iron deposition. To investigate the causal relationship between exposure and outcome, we primarily employed inverse variance weighting, MR Egger, weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode methods, collectively enhancing the robustness of our results. Results The results of MR analyses demonstrate that our study unveiled that nerve growth factor‐β, hepatocyte growth factor, interleukin‐1 (IL‐1), IL‐8, macrophage inflammatory protein 1α, and tumor necrosis factor‐α were associated with elevated brain iron content in the regions of left hippocampus, putamen, left thalamus, right pallidum, right hippocampus, left amygdala, respectively. Furthermore, our investigation provides evidence for a negative relationship between IL‐1, IL‐17, monocyte chemotactic protein‐3, tumor necrosis factor‐β, and brain iron content in distinct regions. Conclusions Our findings suggest a causal association between circulating inflammatory cytokines and brain iron deposition across various brain regions. This provides new insights into the immunopathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases and potential preventive strategies targeting iron metabolism.

BackgroundIt remains unknown whether composite-dietary-antioxidant-index (CDAI) is associated with the risk of sarcopenia. This study investigated the association of CDAI with sarcopenia risk among general US adults.MethodsA total of 10,093 participants were enrolled in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) from 6 survey cycles (2003-2004, 2005-2006, 2011-2012, 2013-2014, 2015-2016 and 2017-2018). Multivariate logistic regression was carried out to examine the relationship between CDAI and the risk of sarcopenia. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves were employed to analyze nonlinear relationships.ResultsIn a multi-variable logistic regression model adjusting for demographics, lifestyle, economic status and other dietary factors, higher CDAI score was related to a lower risk of sarcopenia among US adults. Compared the highest quartile of CDAI score with the lowest, the OR and 95%CI were 0.49 (0.31-0.75). Furthermore, the RCS demonstrated a linear dose-response relationship between CDAI and sarcopenia (Pnon-linearity=0.92). These results remained consistent across subgroups stratified by age, sex, physical activity, drinking status, body mass index (BMI), smoking habits, energy intake, and Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score. In addition, the favorable associations of CDAI were primarily attributed to Vitamin E intake.ConclusionA higher CDAI score was associated with a lower risk of sarcopenia. According to these results, a greater adherence to CDAI may benefit sarcopenia prevention in adults.

Background: To investigate the value of automatic positioning technology in improving the protection of radiographers in the relocatable CT room of a Fang Cang hospital during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).Methods: The National Emergency Medical Team of our hospital assumed command of Wuchang Fang Cang Hospital and treated confirmed COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms. Relocatable CT was used to examine patients in this hospital. Automatic positioning technology was applied to avoid close contact between medical staff and patients and to protect medical staff more effectively.Results: Seven hundred lung CT scans acquired from 269 patients were completed from February 17 to 26, 2020 with automatic positioning technology for relocatable CT in a Fang Cang hospital. All scans were conducted successfully using automatic positioning technology. All patients entered the scanning room from a separate door. All the position lines were accurate, and all images met the requirement for diagnosis of COVID-19, with satisfied quality. None of our medical staff had any close contact with patients.Conclusion: Automatic positioning technology applied to relocatable CT can minimize the close contact between technologists and patients and effectively improve the protection of medical staff without sacrificing image quality.

Abstract Objectives Asymptomatic and symptomatic patients may transmit severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), but their clinical features and immune responses remain largely unclear. We aimed to characterise the clinical features and immune responses of asymptomatic and symptomatic patients infected with SARS‐CoV‐2. Methods We collected clinical, laboratory and epidemiological records of patients hospitalised in a coronavirus field hospital in Wuhan. We performed qualitative detection of anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 immunoglobulin M (IgM) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) using archived blood samples. Results Of 214 patients with SARS‐CoV‐2, 26 (12%) were asymptomatic at hospital admission and during hospitalisation. Background. Information regarding the impact of cardiovascular (CV) conditions on disease progression among patients with mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is limited. Methods. This study evaluated the association of underlying CV conditions with disease progression in patients with mild COVID-19. The primary outcome was the need to be transferred to the designated hospital for intensive care due to COVID-19 disease progression. The patients were divided into with and without CV conditions as well as stable and intensive care groups. Results. Of the 332 patients with mild COVID-19, the median age was 51 years (IQR, 40-59 years), and 200 (61.2%) were female. Of the 48 (14.5%) patients with CV conditions, 23 (47.9%) progressed to severe disease status and required intensive care. Compared with patients without CV conditions, patients with CV conditions were older and more likely to have fatigue, chest tightness, and myalgia.
