Pressure sensors based on advanced materials have gained high attention for their potential applications in various fields, including sports training. This study focuses on the development of poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE))/graphene composite films as high-performance pressure sensors. The composite films were fabricated using a casting method, and their morphological, structural, thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties were comprehensively characterized. The incorporation of graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) into the P(VDF-TrFE) matrix led to the formation of a percolated conductive network, resulting in enhanced electrical conductivity and pressure sensitivity. The composite film containing 5 wt% GnP exhibited remarkable sensing capabilities, boasting an elevated sensitivity of 0.85 kPa−1, a rapid response time of 50 ms, and exceptional resilience over 1000 loading-unloading cycles. Moreover, the incorporation of GnP substantially augmented the mechanical properties, with a 65 % enhancement in tensile strength and a 92 % surge in Young's modulus when juxtaposed against pristine P(VDF-TrFE) films. The superior property of these P(VDF-TrFE)/graphene composite pressure sensors, along with their excellent mechanical properties, make them promising candidates for sports training applications, enabling the monitoring and analysis of various biomechanical parameters to optimize athletic performance and prevent injuries.

To address the issues of limited functionality and poor dynamic characteristics in traditional on-load tap changer transformers, this paper proposes a topological structure for a hybrid on-load tap changer transformer. This structure combines the efficiency and reliability of power-frequency transformers with the controllability of power electronic converters. By integrating back-to-back converters and designing corresponding control strategies, continuous voltage regulation and reactive power compensation for the on-load tap changer transformer are achieved. Additionally, the paper introduces a series voltage compensation method to provide fault protection for the load. Finally, an experimental model of the hybrid on-load tap changer transformer is built using MATLAB simulation software and an experimental platform. Both simulation and experimental results verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed topological structure and control strategy.

4. Robust, Flexible, and Superhydrophobic Fabrics for High-Efficiency and Ultrawide-Band Microwave Absorption

Microwave absorption (MA) materials are essential for protecting against harmful electromagnetic radiation. In this study, highly efficient and ultrawide-band microwave-absorbing fabrics with superhydrophobic surface features were developed using a facile dip-coating method involving in situ graphene oxide (GO) reduction, deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles, and subsequent coating of a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and octadecylamine (ODA) on polyester fabrics. Owing to the presence of hierarchically structured surfaces and low-surface-energy materials, the resultant reduced GO (rGO)/TiO2-ODA/PDMS-coated fabrics demonstrate superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 159° and sliding angle of 5°. Under the synergistic effects of conduction loss, interface polarization loss, and surface roughness topography, the optimized fabrics show excellent microwave absorbing performances with a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of −47.4 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EABmax) of 7.7 GHz at a small rGO loading of 6.9 wt%. In addition, the rGO/TiO2-ODA/PDMS coating was robust, and the coated fabrics could withstand repeated washing, soiling, long-term ultraviolet irradiation, and chemical attacks without losing their superhydrophobicity and MA properties. Moreover, the coating imparts self-healing properties to the fabrics. This study provides a promising and effective route for the development of robust and flexible materials with microwave-absorbing properties.

Abstract Focused ultrasound ablation surgery (FUAS) is a minimally invasive treatment option that has been utilized in various tumors. However, its clinical advancement has been hindered by issues such as low safety and efficiency, single image guidance mode, and postoperative tumor residue. To address these limitations, this study aimed to develop a novel multi-functional gas-producing engineering bacteria biological targeting cooperative system. Pulse-focused ultrasound (PFUS) could adjust the ratio of thermal effect to non-thermal effect by adjusting the duty cycle, and improve the safety and effectiveness of treatment.The genetic modification of Escherichia coli (E.coli) involved the insertion of an acoustic reporter gene to encode gas vesicles (GVs), resulting in gas-producing E.coli (GVs-E.coli) capable of targeting tumor anoxia. GVs-E.coli colonized and proliferated within the tumor while the GVs facilitated ultrasound imaging and cooperative PFUS. Additionally, multifunctional cationic polyethyleneimine (PEI)-poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (PEI-PLGA/EPI/PFH@Fe3O4) containing superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO, Fe3O4), perfluorohexane (PFH), and epirubicin (EPI) were developed. These nanoparticles offered synergistic PFUS, supplementary chemotherapy, and multimodal imaging capabilities.GVs-E.coli effectively directed the PEI-PLGA/EPI/PFH@Fe3O4 to accumulate within the tumor target area by means of electrostatic adsorption, resulting in a synergistic therapeutic impact on tumor eradication.In conclusion, GVs-E.coli-mediated multi-functional nanoparticles can synergize with PFUS and chemotherapy to effectively treat tumors, overcoming the limitations of current FUAS therapy and improving safety and efficacy. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used as important energy storage and energy supply devices. The porous design and heteroatomization modification of carbon-based anode materials are crucial for achieving high-capacity and reversible energy storage in LIBs. Sol-gel method and pyrolysis treatment were used to obtain silica/silver composite particles used as templates. Polyphosphazene-coated silica/silver composite composite carbon materials (SiO2/Ag@PZS-C) were synthesized through in-situ self-assembly and carbonization of polyphosphazene. The electrochemical behavior and lithium storage mechanism of SiO2/Ag@PZS-C was also studied. The results reveal that the composite exhibited high specific capacity, stable cycling and superior rate performance. The double modification of silver nanoparticles and polyphosphazene carbon significantly improves the conductivity of silica and reduces the volume change. Moreover, the carbon shell of polyphosphazene facilitated the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interface film (SEI), preventing direct contact between the active material and the electrolyte, thereby substantially enhancing lithium storage performance.

7. Arthroscopic surgery is not superior to conservative treatment in knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trails

Abstract Background Studies comparing the effectiveness of arthroscopic knee surgery and conservative treatment on knee osteoarthritis (OA) came up with inconsistent results. Systematic review on this topic still is still lacking. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopic knee surgery on knee OA, compared to conservative treatments. Materials and methods Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published before on 1st July 2024. Studies comparing the effectiveness of arthroscopy and conservative treatments only on knee OA were included. Quality of included studies was evaluated by risk of bias 2 (ROB2). Long-term results in terms of pain relief, functional recovery and patients reported satisfaction were meta-analyzed to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness. Results Ten studies were included in this review, among which only 1 was considered as low risk of bias. Five studies were involved in meta-analyses and no difference was found in therapeutic effectiveness of arthroscopic surgery and conservative treatment on knee OA, in the evaluation of VAS (p = 0.63), WOMAC (p = 0.38), SF-36 (p = 0.74) and patient satisfaction (p = 0.07). Conclusion The evidence does not support the effectiveness of arthroscopic knee surgery compared to conservative treatments in knee OA.

Abstract Background Large spacers offer numerous advantages such as higher fusion rates and lower subsidence rates. However, due to the anatomical constraints of the approach, the use of large spacers in biportal endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(BE-TLIF) necessitates an additional incision and special instruments for spacer implantation leading to less frequent use. Methods This study has refined several techniques within BE-TLIF. We insert the cage and impact the cage transverse with a special design instrument in the same working portal. This allows for the use of large spacers during BE-TLIF procedures without the need for an auxiliary cage-inserting incision. Conclusion The technique is a straightforward, safe, and minimally invasive method for inserting large cages in the treatment of lumbar instability.

9. Collaborative robust dispatch of electricity and carbon under carbon allowance trading market

The launch of the carbon-allowance trading market has changed the cost structure of the power industry. There is an asynchronous coupling mechanism between the carbon-allowance-trading market and the day-ahead power-system dispatch. In this study, a data-driven model of the uncertainty in the annual carbon price was created. Subsequently, a collaborative, robust dispatch model was constructed considering the annual uncertainty of the carbon price and the daily uncertainty of renewable-energy generation. The model is solved using the column-and-constraint generation algorithm. An operation and cost model of a carbon-capture power plant (CCPP) that couples the carbon market and the economic operation of the power system is also established. The critical, profitable conditions for the economic operation of the CCPP were derived. Case studies demonstrated that the proposed low-carbon, robust dispatch model reduced carbon emissions by 2.67% compared with the traditional, economic, dispatch method. The total fuel cost of generation decreases with decreasing, conservative, carbon-price-uncertainty levels, while total carbon emissions continue to increase. When the carbon-quota coefficient decreases, the system dispatch tends to increase low-carbon unit output. This study can provide important guidance for carbon-market design and the low-carbon-dispatch selection strategies.

Abstract Processing spatiotemporal data sources with both high spatial dimension and rich temporal information is a ubiquitous need in machine intelligence. Recurrent neural networks in the machine learning domain and bio-inspired spiking neural networks in the neuromorphic computing domain are two promising candidate models for dealing with spatiotemporal data via extrinsic dynamics and intrinsic dynamics, respectively. Nevertheless, these networks have disparate modeling paradigms, which leads to different performance results, making it hard for them to cover diverse data sources and performance requirements in practice. Constructing a unified modeling framework that can effectively and adaptively process variable spatiotemporal data in different situations remains quite challenging. In this work, we propose hybrid spatiotemporal neural networks created by combining the recurrent neural networks and spiking neural networks under a unified surrogate gradient learning framework and a Hessian-aware neuron selection method. By flexibly tuning the ratio between two types of neurons, the hybrid model demonstrates better adaptive ability in balancing different performance metrics, including accuracy, robustness, and efficiency on several typical benchmarks, and generally outperforms conventional single-paradigm recurrent neural networks and spiking neural networks. Furthermore, we evidence the great potential of the proposed network with a robotic task in varying environments. With our proof of concept, the proposed hybrid model provides a generic modeling route to process spatiotemporal data sources in the open world.

11. Mortality and disease burden of oral cancer in China: a time-trend analysis on the China Death Surveillance Database from 2006 to 2021

Abstract Background Oral cancer is one of the most common cancers in China and seriously threaten life and health of Chinese people. We analysed the trends and disparities of oral cancer mortality rates and the disease burden of oral cancer in China from 2006 to 2021 to provide a reference for its prevention and control. Methods Annual death data for oral cancer was gleaned from the China Death Surveillance Database. The age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR), annual percentage change (APC), and average APC (AAPC) were used to analyze the trend of mortality. Loss of life expectancy (LLE) and years of life lost (YLL) were adopted to assess disease burden. Results From 2006 to 2021, the overall ASMR of oral cancer lightly declined (AAPC: − 0.97%; 95% CI: − 1.89%, − 0.04%), and the similar trend was observed among females (AAPC: − 1.22%; 95% CI: − 1.89%, − 0.55%). The ASMR of males was 2.31–3.16 times higher than that of females per year. The median of LLE for overall, males and females caused by oral cancer from 2006 to 2021 were 0.05, 0.06 and 0.03 years, respectively. There was a decrease of standardized YLL rate from 2006 to 2021 for overall (AAPC: − 1.31%, 95% CI: − 2.24% ~ − 0.37%) and for female (AAPC: − 1.63%, 95% CI: − 2.30% ~ − 0.95%). ASMR in urban areas was 1.02–1.28 times higher than that in rural areas from 2006 to2011, but 0.85–0.97 times lower in urban areas than that in rural areas from 2018 to 2021. The disease burden was higher in urban areas than in rural areas in 2006, whereas the reverse was observed in 2021. Conclusions There are severe health gaps and disparities in trends between sexes and different areas in China. Males and rural populations need to be focused on targeted interventions for the main influencing factors.

12. Ginsenoside Rb1 reduces oxidative/carbonyl stress damage and dysfunction of RyR2 in the heart of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Abstract Background Oxidative stress may contribute to cardiac ryanodine receptor (RyR2) dysfunction in diabetic cardiomyopathy. Ginsenoside Rb1 (Rb1) is a major pharmacologically active component of ginseng to treat cardiovascular diseases. Whether Rb1 treat diabetes injured heart remains unknown. This study was to investigate the effect of Rb1 on diabetes injured cardiac muscle tissue and to further investigate its possible molecular pharmacology mechanisms. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were injected streptozotocin solution for 2 weeks, followed 6 weeks Rb1 or insulin treatment. The activity of SOD, CAT, Gpx, and the levels of MDA was measured; histological and ultrastructure analyses, RyR2 activity and phosphorylated RyR2(Ser2808) protein expression analyses; and Tunel assay were performed. Results There was decreased activity of SOD, CAT, Gpx and increased levels of MDA in the diabetic group from control. Rb1 treatment increased activity of SOD, CAT, Gpx and decreased the levels of MDA as compared with diabetic rats. Neutralizing the RyR2 activity significantly decreased in diabetes from control, and increased in Rb1 treatment group from diabetic group. The expression of phosphorylation of RyR2 Ser2808 was increased in diabetic rats from control, and were attenuated with insulin and Rb1 treatment. Diabetes increased the apoptosis rate, and Rb1 treatment decreased the apoptosis rate. Rb1 and insulin ameliorated myocardial injury in diabetic rats. Conclusions These data indicate that Rb1 could be useful for mitigating oxidative damage, reduced phosphorylation of RyR2 Ser2808 and decreased the apoptosis rate of cardiomyocytes in diabetic cardiomyopathy.

13. Scalable DC casting of large-size AZ80 magnesium alloy slab under out-of-phase pulsed magnetic field: Experiment and simulation

The large-size AZ80 magnesium alloy slab was manufactured using direct chill casting assisted by out-of-phase pulsed magnetic field. Subsequently, the effects of OPMF on the as-cast structure and the Al content were investigated. By using numerical simulation, the macro physical fields including the flow field, the temperature distribution, and the sump profile were simulated and compared between the slab with and without OPMF. After introducing the OPMF, significant grain refinement occurred, and the macrosegregation degree of the Al element was alleviated. Compared with the case without OPMF, the simulations revealed that the melt flow rate and its range were greatly increased, accelerating the convective heat transfer in the sump. As a result, the temperature field was more uniformed distributed, the cooling rate was increased and the sump depth became shallower. The relevant mechanisms between the experimental results and the simulation results were discussed in detail.

14. Serum lipid metabolism characteristics and potential biomarkers in patients with unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss

Abstract Background Glycerophospholipids (GPLs) are essential for cell membrane structure and function. Sphingomyelin and its metabolites regulate cell growth, apoptosis, and stress responses. This study aimed to investigate lipid metabolism in patients experiencing sudden sensorineural hearing loss across all frequencies (AF-SSNHL). Methods The study included 60 patients diagnosed with unilateral AF-SSNHL, among whom 30 patients had a level of hearing improvement ≥ 15 dB after 6 months of follow-up. A propensity score-matched (2:1) control group was used. Liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry based untargeted lipidomics analysis combined with multivariate statistics was performed to investigate the lipids change. The “lipidome” R package and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) were utilised to assess the lipids’ structural features and the association between lipids and hearing. Results Lipidomics successfully differentiated the AF-SSNHL group from the control group, identifying 17 risk factors, mainly including phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and related metabolites. The ratios of lysophosphatidylcholine/PC, lysophosphatidylethanolamine/PE, and lysodimethylphosphatidylethanolamine/PE were upregulated, while some glycerophospholipid (GPL)-plasmalogens were downregulated in the AF-SSNHL group, indicating abnormal metabolism of GPLs. Trihexosylceramide (d34:1), PE (18:1e_22:5), and sphingomyelin (d40:3) were significantly different between responders and nonresponders, and positively correlated with hearing improvement. Additionally, the results of the WGCNA also suggested that partial GPL-plasmalogens were positively associated with hearing improvement. Conclusion AF-SSNHL patients exhibited abnormally high blood lipids and pronounced GPLs metabolic abnormalities. Sphingolipids and GPL-plasmalogens had an association with the level of hearing improvement. By understanding the lipid changes, clinicians may be able to predict the prognosis of hearing recovery and personalize treatment approaches.

Abstract An equivalent analytical model of sloshing in a two-dimensional (2-D) rigid rectangular container equipped with multiple vertical baffles is presented. Firstly, according to the subdomain partition approach, the total liquid domain is partitioned into subdomains with the pure interface and boundary conditions. The separation of variables is utilized to achieve the velocity potential for subdomains. Then, sloshing characteristics are solved according to continuity and free surface conditions. According to the mode orthogonality of sloshing, the governing motion equation for sloshing under horizontal excitation is given by introducing generalized time coordinates. Besides, by producing the same hydrodynamic shear and overturning moment as those from the original container-liquid-baffle system, a mass-spring analytical model of the continuous liquid sloshing is established. The equivalent masses and corresponding locations are presented in the model. The feasibility of the present approach is verified by conducting comparative investigations. Finally, by utilizing normalized equivalent model parameters, the sloshing behaviors of the baffled container are investigated regarding baffle positions and heights as well as the liquid height, respectively.

Medicine - Abstract
Introduction Elderly patients are at a high risk of postoperative delirium (POD), leading to increased postoperative morbidity and mortality. The use of dexmedetomidine and depth of anaesthesia may influence POD. This study aims to determine the effects of dexmedetomidine infusion versus normal saline placebo during light versus deep anaesthesia on POD among elderly patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery.Methods and analysis This prospective, multicentre, randomised, controlled, factorial trial will be conducted at three tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu, China. We will recruit a total of 420 patients who are at least 60 years old and undergoing major non-cardiac surgery (thoracic, abdominal, urology, orthopaedic and spine surgery) under general anaesthesia. Patients will be randomised (1:1:1:1) to receive one of four anaesthesia regimens: (1) dexmedetomidine and light anaesthesia, (2) dexmedetomidine and deep anaesthesia, (3) placebo and light anaesthesia or (4) placebo and deep anaesthesia. Dexmedetomidine will be infused at 0.5 µg/kg/h throughout surgery, and intraoperative bispectral index target will be 55 for light anaesthesia and 40 for deep anaesthesia. The primary outcome is the occurrence of POD during the first 7 days postoperatively or until hospital discharge, assessed using the 3-min Confusion Assessment Method two times per day. The secondary outcomes include days with POD, type of POD, pain scores at rest and on movement at 24 and 48 hours postoperatively, patient-controlled intravenous fentanyl consumption during 0–24 and 24–48 hours postoperatively, hypotension, bradycardia, postoperative nausea and vomiting, non-delirium complications, length of postoperative hospital stay, 30-day cognitive function and 30-day mortality. Data will be analysed on a modified intention-to-treat basis.Ethics and dissemination This trial was approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University and each participating centre. 17. Identification and phylogenetic analysis of Nairobi sheep disease virus from Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks in Shandong Province, China

Nairobi Sheep Disease (NSD) is a typical tick-borne syndrome characterized by severe hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, spontaneous abortion, and a high case fatality rate in small ruminants. The pathogenic agent, Nairobi sheep disease virus (NSDV), has also been associated with human infections, indicating its possible zoonotic potential. Prior to this study, NSDV has been detected from ticks collected in Jilin, Hubei, and Liaoning provinces in China. In the present study, a total of 343 ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis) were collected in Shandong province, China in 2020, and pooled into 16 libraries. Analysis of the meta-transcriptomic sequencing data identified NSDV strains SDWL07, SDWL08, and SDWL16 from three pools. The SDWL07 and SDWL16 strains were detected from unfed ticks, while SDWL08 was detected from cattle-feeding ticks. Phylogenetic analyses showed higher sequence identities between the three strains and other Chinese NSDV strains than those from India and Kenya. Phylogenetic analyses also revealed that they clustered together and fell within the China lineage, suggesting no potential genetic reassortment among them. In summary, this is the first report of the identification of NSDV in Shandong province, highlighting the continually expanding endemic regions of this pathogen. Surveillance of NSDV should be intensified in China, especially in areas where H. longicornis is endemic.

Abstract This study focuses on the primary synoptic‐scale patterns and precursors of extreme and non‐extreme precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau (TP). Atmospheric circulation anomalies and their precursors associated with regional extreme precipitation events (REPE) demonstrate distinct precursor wave train and heightened intensity than regional non‐extreme precipitation events (non‐REPE). Specifically, REPE over the northwestern TP (NWTP) exhibits a geopotential height anomaly induced by a latitudinal propagating Rossby wave train along 40°N. In contrast, over the southeastern TP (SETP), REPE is characterized by a geopotential height anomaly caused by a northwest‐southeastward propagating Rossby wave train. The ascending motion anomalies of REPE over both NWTP and SETP are primarily attributed to the geostrophic zonal temperature advection, which is significantly stronger during REPE compared to non‐REPE. This finding provides valuable insights for forecasting summer extreme precipitation over TP.

Biomarker testing plays a crucial role in the early detection of liver cancer. Herein, we developed a dual-signal amplification approach utilizing magnetic aggregation and a recognition competition strategy for the simultaneous detection of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) in serum. 4-MBA@AuNPs@H1 and DTNB@AuNPs@H2 were synthesized by functionalizing Raman signaling molecules and aptamer complementary chains onto the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The detection complex Raman signal molecule@AuNPs@H-Fe3O4@cDNA was assembled by conjugating 4-MBA@AuNPs@H1 and DTNB@AuNPs@H2 with two nucleic acid aptamers (cDNA1 and cDNA2) modified with Fe3O4 through partial base complementary pairing. The target protein exhibited specific binding with the aptamer, leading to the competitive displacement of 4-MBA@AuNPs@H1 and DTNB@AuNPs@H2 from the Fe3O4 array surface, consequently resulting in a reduction of the Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) signal. Through this approach, the limit of detection (LOD) for AFP and MnSOD in serum was achieved at remarkably low levels of 5.89 pg/mL and 6.23 pg/mL, respectively, with a reaction incubation period of only 5 min. Finally, the platform was utilized for the quantification of AFP and MnSOD in the serum of a nude mouse hepatocellular carcinoma model. The results obtained through SERS were consistent with those from enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), validating its accuracy. This methodology presents a novel approach for the swift and concurrent detection of proteins, holding significant clinical promise for the early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Isoorientin (Iso) is a natural flavone with multiple activities. In the present study, the partial chemical properties and activities of Iso were improved by the nanoparticle loading technique. Zein/GA nanoparticles were successfully synthesized with the antisolvent precipitation method, and the structure and stability of the Zein/GA nanoparticles loaded with Iso (Zein/GA-Iso nanoparticles) were characterized by FTIR, UV–vis spectroscopy and zeta-sizer analysis. Results showed that Zein/GA-Iso nanoparticles possessed greater stability, light stability, hydrophilicity and antioxidant activity. Furthermore, Zein/GA-Iso nanoparticles exerted notable antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa by destroying the permeability and integrity of cell membrane. On this basis, Zein/GA-Iso nanoparticles do have a bacteriostatic effect on pork. In conclusion, Zein/GA-Iso nanoparticles had better stability and pork preservation for applications in the food processing field as a new type of antiseptic and freshening agent.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is the most common type of hearing loss worldwide. The primary mechanism is oxidative injury to the cochlea as a result of oxidative stress. Therefore, exploring antioxidant strategies is particularly important in addressing SNHL.Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is an upstream target of oxidative stress-induced damage, and the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) and NF-κB pathways may be the main downstream molecular pathways, but this has not been reported in SNHL. Therefore, we investigated the molecular mechanism and role of TXNIP in oxidative stress injury induced by H2O2 in the HEI-OC1 auditory cells. To induce oxidative stress, HEI-OC1 cells were treated with H2O2. The TXNIP expression was measured by western blotting and Immunofluorescence. Intracellular TXNIP was knocked down using small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). Lattice-infilled structures possess prominent properties at relatively low mass, which are of great significance in academic investigations and engineering fields such as aerospace science and biomedical applications. However, both the macro geometry and relative density distribution of the infilled microstructure exert considerable influence on performances of lattice-infilled structure and the structural manufacturability needs to be considered. In this work, an optimization design methodology for self-supporting additive-manufactured lattice-infilled structures is proposed, in which the macro geometry and relative density distribution of the microstructure are concurrently optimized. Microstructure is infilled after topology optimization and octree structure is introduced into the boundary layers of the lattice core to support the top shell during fabrication. The effectiveness of the proposed optimization design method for self-supporting additive-manufactured lattice-infilled structures was proved by both three-point-bending test and full-scale finite element simulation. Compared with the uniformly-infilled sample, mass-specific stiffness and strength of the topologyoptimized sample were improved by 41.2% and 112.1%, respectively. The proposed design method for lattice-infilled structures provides potential for designing additive-manufactured high-performance lightweight structures, which will broaden the boundaries of lattice structure in engineering applications.

23. Targeting RAC1 reactivates pyroptosis to reverse paclitaxel resistance in ovarian cancer by suppressing P21‐activated kinase 4

Abstract Pyroptosis may play an important role in the resistance of ovarian cancer (OC) to chemotherapy. However, the mechanism by which pyroptosis modulation can attenuate chemotherapy resistance has not been comprehensively studied in OC. Here, we demonstrated that RAS‐associated C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1 (RAC1) is highly expressed in OC and is negatively correlated with patient outcomes. Through cell function tests and in vivo tumor formation tests, we found that RAC1 can promote tumor growth by mediating paclitaxel (PTX) resistance. RAC1 can mediate OC progression by inhibiting pyroptosis, as evidenced by high‐throughput automated confocal imaging, the release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), the expression of the inflammatory cytokines IL‐1β/IL‐18 and the nucleotide oligomerization domain‐like receptor family pyrin domain‐containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome. Mechanically, RNA‐seq, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), coimmunoprecipitation (Co‐IP), mass spectrometry (MS), and ubiquitination tests further confirmed that RAC1 inhibits caspase‐1/gasdermin D (GSDMD)‐mediated canonical pyroptosis through the P21‐activated kinase 4 (PAK4)/mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, thereby promoting PTX resistance in OC cells. Finally, the whole molecular pathway was verified by the results of in vivo drug combination tests, clinical specimen detection and the prognosis. In summary, our results suggest that the combination of RAC1 inhibitors with PTX can reverse PTX resistance by inducing pyroptosis through the PAK4/MAPK pathway.

Recovering structures from images with 180∘ or 360∘ FoV is pivotal in computer vision and computational photography, particularly for VR/AR/MR and autonomous robotics applications. Due to varying distortions and the complexity of indoor scenes, recovering flexible structures from a single image is challenging. We introduce OmniSRNet, a comprehensive deep learning framework that merges distortion-aware learning with bidirectional LSTM. Utilizing a curated dataset with optimized panorama and expanded fisheye images, our framework features a distortion-aware module (DAM) for extracting features and a horizontal and vertical step module (HVSM) of LSTM for contextual predictions. OmniSRNet excels in applications such as VR-based house viewing and MR-based video surveillance, achieving leading results on cuboid and non-cuboid datasets. The integration of digital technology with education has brought both opportunities and challenges to the innovation of teaching methods for teachers. Digital resilience, as a crucial skill in the digital era, assists teachers in objectively identifying and addressing the challenges they currently face. This skill enables them to better adapt more effectively to digital education or navigate through digital survival. Teacher Digital Resilience refers to the positive mindset and adaptability that teachers de-monstrate when they encounter technological difficulties or challenges while using digital technology for education. Through the understanding and analysis of the concept and connotation of digital resilience, this paper constructs a framework for Teacher Digital Resilience from four dimensions: adapting to the environment, coping with challenges, self-adjusting, and seeking support. This framework is based on existing representative digital resilience frameworks, psychological resilience research, and the characteristics of the teaching profession. In the daily work of teachers, promoting digital resilience among educators can be achieved through self-awareness, resilience education, workplace lear-ning, and resource support.

26. The association among thriving in life, quality of life, and suicidal ideation in Chinese urban older adults: the moderating effects of attitude toward own aging

Abstract Background As the global trend of population aging intensifies, the health and well-being of the older population has gradually become a focus of attention for the global community. This study assessed the status of thriving in life among Chinese urban older adults and identified its relationship with attitude toward own aging and quality of life (QoL). It also tested whether attitude toward own aging moderates the association between thriving in life and Qol or between thriving in life and suicidal ideation. Methods Primary data were collected through a cross-sectional survey among urban older adults from three provinces in China. They were invited to complete an anonymous survey using face-to-face interviews from December 2019 to January 2020. Data from 764 older adults were analyzed. Results Approximately 44.39% of participants reported positive responses toward the four domains of thriving in life. Thriving in life and attitude toward own aging had a significant association with QoL. Thriving in life was a protective factor for suicidal ideation for older adults. Moreover, attitude toward own aging moderated the association between thriving in life and QoL and that between thriving in life and suicidal ideation. Conclusions Chinese urban older adults were reportedly thriving in life, which contributed to increased QoL and reduced suicidal ideation. Notably, the study revealed that more positive attitudes towards own aging were associated with higher levels of thriving in life, better QoL, and reduced suicidal ideation. Targeted interventions for older adults should be devised to promote thriving in life and prevent negative attitudes of older people towards their own aging, further raising QoL and reducing suicidal ideation.

27. Effect of Algae Crusting Cover on Soil Structure Under Freeze-Thaw Conditions

[Objective] To investigate the effects of biological crustal cover and freeze-thaw on soil structure. [Methods] The effects of different freeze-thaw times, initial soil water content before freeze-thaw and biological crusting (algae crust) cover on soil structure characteristics was employed to analyze the indoor simulated freeze-thaw method. [Results] (1) The soil structure index (IGSS) obtained by orthogonal experiment was between 75.57~96.57, the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) was between 37.55~39.70 dB, and the optimal factor combination ascertained by the Taguchi method was 15 freeze-thaw cycles, 15% initial water content, and 80% algal crust coverage, and the predicted results were IGSS=98.09, S/N=39.89 dB. (2)A positive correlation was observed between IGSSIGSS was positively correlated with freeze-thaw times, initial water content and algal crusting coverage, and the primary influences on the soil structure index were ranked as initial water content > freeze-thaw times > algal crusting coverage. The contribution rates of each factor to alterations in the soil structure index were initial water content (52.17%) > freeze-thaw frequency (31.95%) > algae crusting coverage (2.12%). (3) The change of soil structure index comes from the loss of soil water and pore expansion during the freeze-thaw process, and algae crusting can slow down the loss of water during the freeze-thaw process, thereby decelerating the IGSS alteration. [Conclusion] Orthogonal experiments in this research explored the effect of algae crusting cover on soil structure under freeze-thaw conditions, and the results could provide a theoretical reference for the study of soil freeze-thaw process under complex conditions.

Abstract The strain clamps and leading wires are important components that connect conductors on overhead transmission lines and conduct current. During operation, poor contact between these components can cause abnormal overheating, leading to electric failures and threatening power system reliability. Recently, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with infrared thermal imagers for strain clamp and leading wire maintenance has become increasingly popular. Deep learning‐based image recognition shows promising prospects for intelligent fault diagnosis of overheating faults. A pre‐treatment method is proposed based on dynamic histogram equalisation to enhance the contrast of infrared images. The DeepLab v3+ network, loss function, and existing networks with different backbones are compared. The DeepLab v3+ network with ResNet101 and convolutional block attention module added, and the Focal Loss function achieved the highest performance with an average pixel accuracy of 0.614, an average intersection over union (AIoU) of 0.567, an F1 score of 0.644, and a frequency weighted intersection over union of 0.594 on the test set. The optimised Atrous rates has increased the AIoU by 12.91%. Moreover, an intelligent diagnosis scheme for evaluating the defect state of the strain clamps and leading wires is proposed and which achieves a diagnostic accuracy of 91.0%.

Abstract Objective Fluorine‐18‐fluorodeoxyglucose–positron emission tomography (FDG‐PET) is routinely used for presurgical evaluation in many epilepsy centers. Hypometabolic characteristics have been extensively examined in prior studies, but the metabolic patterns associated with specific pathological types of drug‐resistant epilepsy remain to be fully defined. This study was developed to explore the relationship between metabolic patterns or characteristics and surgical outcomes in type I and II focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) patients based on results from a large cohort. Methods Data from individuals who underwent epilepsy surgery from 2014 to 2019 with a follow‐up duration of over 3 years and a pathological classification of type I or II FCD in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Hypometabolic patterns were quantitatively identified via statistical parametric mapping (SPM) and qualitatively analyzed via visual examination of PET‐MRI co‐registration images. Univariate analyses were used to explore the relationship between metabolic patterns and surgical outcomes. Results In total, this study included data from 210 patients. Following SPM calculations, four hypometabolic patterns were defined including unilobar, multi‐lobar, and remote patterns as well as cases where no pattern was evident. In type II FCD patients, the unilobar pattern was associated with the best surgical outcomes (p = 0.014). In visual analysis, single gyrus (p = 0.032) and Clear‐cut hypometabolism edge (p = 0.040) patterns exhibited better surgery outcomes in the type II FCD group. Conclusions PET metabolic patterns are well‐correlated with the prognosis of type II FCD patients. However, similar correlations were not observed in type I FCD, potentially owing to the complex distribution of the epileptogenic region. Plain Language Summary In this study, we demonstrated that FDG‐PET was a crucial examination for patients with FCD, which was a common cause of epilepsy. We compared the surgical prognosis for patients with different hypometabolism distribution patterns and found that clear and focal abnormal region in PET was correlated with good surgical outcome in type II FCD patients.

Dietary threonine (Thr) is known to influence fat deposition in poultry, but the precise mechanisms behind its regulatory effects on hepatic lipid metabolism remain elusive. Prior research indicated that including supplemental Thr in the feed may influence STAT3 (Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3) levels in the liver of meat ducks. Numerous studies have recorded the function of STAT3 in regulating fatty acid (FA) metabolism in mammals. The primary objective of this study was to investigate whether Thr influences FA metabolism and triglycerides (TG) deposition in duck liver by regulating STAT3 expression. Primary hepatocytes were isolated from duck embryos and treated for 36 h with different doses of Thr (0, 10, 25, 50, 200 μM) in vitro or with a constructed STAT3 overexpression plasmid to examine the content of FAs and TG. RNA-seq was used to detect changes in gene expression in hepatocytes following STAT3 overexpression. The results demonstrated that both the exogenous addition of Thr and the overexpression of STAT3 significantly suppressed the capacity of hepatocytes for FAs deposition (P < 0.05). The overexpression of STAT3 also inhibited TG accumulation under conditions in response to Thr deficiency (P < 0.01). Transcriptomic analyses indicated that the overexpression of STAT3 inhibits the activity of triglyceride metabolism and unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis (P < 0.01). Finally, a dual-luciferase reporter test demonstrated that STAT3 may systematically target and inhibit SCD1 transcription (P < 0.01). The present study indicates that supplemental Thr (50 μM) inhibits hepatic FA deposition via the STAT3-SCD1 pathway. This work enhances our comprehension of the functional roles of Thr and STAT3 in modulating lipid metabolism within duck livers. Moreover, it provides a partial theoretical foundation for the nutritional prevention and pharmacological intervention of lipid metabolism disorders in poultry.

In previous studies, the implementation of vegetation structure information remains underutilized during the assessment of burn severity. A PolSAR-based burn severity assessment model was proposed by incorporating polarimetric decomposition features. Based on coherence matrix, three polarimetric decomposition features (i.e. Entropy, Anisotropy, and Alpha) which might be related with some field variables of burn severity (e.g. percent foliage altered, percent change in cover, percent canopy mortality, and percent tree mortality) were extracted. Then, a sensitivity analysis of 20 PolSAR features was performed and a principal component analysis (PCA) was applied. Finally, the combination of polarimetric decomposition features and new PCA vectors were used as inputs and CBI values as outputs of random forest algorithm to assess burn severity. The Jinyun Mountain in the Chongqing municipality of China was used as study area and the C-band of dual-polarization SAR data acquired from Sentinel-1 satellite were used as remotely sensed data. The sensitivity analysis of PolSAR features showed that H, A, and α features exhibited higher correlations with CBI values, compared to SAR indices. For proposed model, the R was 0.60 and the RMSE was 0.55. This study offered a new research perspective for future investigations on PolSAR-based burn severity assessment of wildfires.

Summary: Cartilage maintains the structure and function of joints, with disturbances leading to potential osteoarthritis. N6-methyladenosine (m6A), the most widespread post-transcriptional modification in eukaryotes, plays a crucial role in regulating biological processes. While current research has indicated that m6A affects the progression of osteoarthritis, its function in the development and homeostasis of articular cartilage remains unclear. Here we report that Mettl3 deficiency in chondrocytes leads to mandibular condylar cartilage morphological alterations, early temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis, and diminished adaptive response to abnormal mechanical stimuli. Mechanistically, METTL3 modulates Lats1 mRNA methylation and facilitates its degradation in an m6A-YTHDF2-dependent manner, which subsequently influences the degradation and nuclear translocation of YAP1. Intervention with the Hippo pathway inhibitor XMU-MP-1 alleviates condylar abnormality caused by Mettl3 knockout. Our findings demonstrate the role of METTL3 in cartilage development and homeostasis, offering insights into potential treatment strategies for osteoarthritis.

35. Traditional and non-traditional lipid parameters as risk factors for sudden sensorineural hearing loss

Objective: The purpose was to explore the effects of traditional and non-traditional lipid parameters on Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSNHL). Methods: The study included 452 patients diagnosed with SSNHL, among whom 206 patients had a level of hearing improvement ≥10 dB after one month of follow-up. A propensity score-matched (2:1) control group was used. Conditional and unconditional logistic regression were used to analyze the risk factors for SSNHL. Results: Patients with SSNHL had a higher risk of concomitant hypertension and elevated atherosclerogenic lipid levels, with apolipoprotein B and apolipoprotein E identified as independent risk factors for the onset of SSNHL. Additionally, the Lipid Comprehensive Index (LCI) was an independent risk factor for the degree of hearing loss. A positive linear correlation was revealed between triglyceride, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, atherogenic index, Castelli risk index, atherogenic index of plasma, LCI and hearing loss. However, no linear relationship was observed between hearing gain and any lipid parameters. When Total Cholesterol (TC) was in the range of borderline high, the treatment effect was the best. However, the statistical significance disappeared upon adjusting for confounding factors. Conclusion: Patients with SSNHL exhibited markedly dysregulated lipid metabolism. Elevated serum lipid levels may be a causative factor in auditory impairment and can influence the extent of hearing loss. Promptly improving cochlear microcirculation may benefit patients with borderline elevated TC. Level of evidence: 4.

Distinct brain regions are differentially affected during the various stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD). While the hippocampus and cortex are known to play significant roles, the involvement of the cerebellum has received less attention. Understanding the changes in diverse brain regions is essential to unravel the neuropathological mechanism in early-stage AD. Our research aimed to explore and compare amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology and gene expression profiles across the hippocampus, cortex, and cerebellum in the early stages of the Amyloid Precursor Protein/Presenilin-1 (APP/PS1) mouse model. By 7 months of age, significant Aβ plaque accumulation was observed in the hippocampus and cortex of APP/PS1 mice, while no such deposits were found in the cerebellum. Gene expression analysis revealed predominant effects on immune response pathways in the hippocampus and cortex. Even in the absence of Aβ deposition, notable gene expression changes were observed in the cerebellum of APP/PS1 mice. Intriguingly, Neuronal PAS Domain protein 4 (Npas4) expression was consistently down-regulated across all brain regions, independent of Aβ plaque presence. Our findings reveal distinct transcriptomic alterations and Aβ pathology in select cerebral regions during the initial phase of AD. Notably, the diminished expression of the Npas4 across three brain regions implies that Npas4 could play a pivotal role in the early pathogenesis of AD.

There are increasing evidences showing that functional polysaccharides possess beneficial effects for treating chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc., but its mechanism of action remains imprecision. Additionally, due to the limitations of precision detection methods and the complexity of their structures, the metabolic kinetics behaviours or bioavailability of functional polysaccharides, and the interaction between it entering the systemic circulation and target cells of action have been a conundrum faced by researcher. This review summarized the latest advances in the efficacy of functional polysaccharides in chronic diseases and their structure-activity relationship, absorption and metabolic behaviours, and specific cellular receptors so as to understand the mechanisms of their bioactivities. This review is expected to provide new insights of functional polysaccharides and paves the way for their application.

Online collaborative geographic experiments have many advantages in communication, resource sharing, and task coordination; thus, they play a vital role in comprehensive geographic problem solving for interdisciplinary experts. In these collaborative experiments, different experts usually possess different knowledge backgrounds and are responsible for specific tasks, making it difficult to fully understand the entire experimental process and implementation details, which may lead to different experimental ideas and actions, thus reducing the efficiency of the experiment. Therefore, it is necessary to record and trace information to help participants reach a consensus on the understanding of the experiment to support collaboration. However, most of the existing tracing strategies focus on the states of geographic experimental data but ignore the different interactions that impact the generation, flow, and use of these data. Limitations remain for existing strategies in terms of providing comprehensive insight into the geographic experiment process and its implementation details, especially when addressing the requirements of process understanding, error localization, and scheme sharing. Therefore, this study presents a strategy for tracing interactions in online collaborative geographic experiments. This strategy focuses on interactions and their types, structures, and dependencies during the geographic experiment process; designs three components for recording interaction information; and uses corresponding extraction methods to trace interaction information. To verify the feasibility of this strategy, it was implemented in an online prototype system, and a case study of aboveground forest biomass prediction under climate change was conducted with the prototype system. The results indicate that the proposed strategy can help enhance collaboration among different participants, thus effectively improving the performance of collaborative geographic experiments.

Carbon fibers exhibit good electrothermal performance; however, they break easily during the weaving process. This study used a facile computerized embroidery process to design and fabricate carbon fibers with controllable and precise patterned structures. The obtained carbon fiber/cement composites (CFCs) exhibited excellent electrothermal performance (100 ℃ under 30 V), low energy consumption (400 mW/℃), and homogeneous heat distribution with a unique heating element (carbon fibers) structure. The difference between the maximum and average surface temperatures improved, and the surface heat distributions of the CFCs under different structures were determined using a finite element simulation. CFCs with different complex heat element structures were successfully fabricated, and the mechanism regulating the heat distribution of the CFCs was revealed. Embroidery technology provides a novel strategy for the fabrication of carbon fiber/cement composite materials with a controllable carbon fiber structure, thereby significantly broadening the application of cement composites for electrothermal applications.

A bearing fault diagnosis method based on recurrence plots and a fusion neural network is proposed to address the low recognition accuracy of noisy bearing vibration data. Compared to existing methods, this approach leverages the recurrence plot technique to convert vibration signals into color images, which carry more information than grayscale images. For the prediction model, the traditional convolutional neural network is enhanced by integrating bidirectional gated recurrent unit and multi-head attention mechanism, allowing it to capture temporal features alongside the spatial features typically extracted by convolutional neural network. The accuracy of the method exceeds 92% on two different bearing datasets, indicating its strong generalization performance. The results of ablation and comparison experiments demonstrate that the proposed model achieves high prediction accuracy even in the presence of strong noise, exhibiting robust noise immunity compared with other methods.

Background: This study investigated the relationship between serum thyroid hormones and interleukin-1b (IL-1b) levels and postmortem tissue deiodinase activity in critically ill patients. Methods: Serum thyroid hormones and IL-1b were measured on the 5th, 15th, and last day of 80 critically ill patients. Forty of these patients were non-survived, and liver and skeletal muscle were harvested to analyze type 1, 2, and 3 iodothyronine deiodinases (D1, D2, and D3) activity. Results: Serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), tetraiodothyronine (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3) were decreased, and reverse triiodoth while serum TSH, T4, and T3 levels decreased or remained unchanged, and rT3 and IL-1b increase yronine (rT3) and IL-1b were increased in non-survivors. From day 5 to the last day, serum TSH, T4, and T3 levels increased, and rT3 and IL-1b levels decreased with time in survivors, while serum TSH, T4, and T3 levels decreased or remained unchanged, and rT3 and IL-1b increased in non-survivors. On the last day, liver D1 activity was negatively correlated with serum rT3 and IL-1b, while liver and skeletal muscle D3 activities were positively correlated. Conclusion: Serum thyroid hormones and IL-1b are correlated with postmortem deiodinase activity in critically ill patients.

Abstract It is widely believed the brain-inspired spiking neural networks have the capability of processing temporal information owing to their dynamic attributes. However, how to understand what kind of mechanisms contributing to the learning ability and exploit the rich dynamic properties of spiking neural networks to satisfactorily solve complex temporal computing tasks in practice still remains to be explored. In this article, we identify the importance of capturing the multi-timescale components, based on which a multi-compartment spiking neural model with temporal dendritic heterogeneity, is proposed. The model enables multi-timescale dynamics by automatically learning heterogeneous timing factors on different dendritic branches. Two breakthroughs are made through extensive experiments: the working mechanism of the proposed model is revealed via an elaborated temporal spiking XOR problem to analyze the temporal feature integration at different levels; comprehensive performance benefits of the model over ordinary spiking neural networks are achieved on several temporal computing benchmarks for speech recognition, visual recognition, electroencephalogram signal recognition, and robot place recognition, which shows the best-reported accuracy and model compactness, promising robustness and generalization, and high execution efficiency on neuromorphic hardware. This work moves neuromorphic computing a significant step toward real-world applications by appropriately exploiting biological observations.

Driven by the IoT technology and smart sensors development in Industry 5.0, the digital twin as an innovative information technology brings new opportunities and challenges for intelligent maritime logistics management. This paper tries to present a systematic review on digital twin-empowered smart maritime logistics management by employing a bibliometric analysis framework under the Industry 5.0 era. The 3372 related publications from the Web of Science database are collected as research samples from 2003 to 2023. Besides, the VosViewer is adopted to perform the co-word and network analysis by visualizing interactive collaborations of published literature. Specifically, more than 3,000 articles on maritime logistics were reviewed to determine the research trajectories and main themes through same-word study and co-citation analysis. Results show that most publications on maritime logistics management are concentrated in China and the United States, where maritime logistics is developing towards digitization and informatization. In particular, Sustainability, Maritime Policy & Management, and Journal of Marine Science and Engineering are the most important journals focusing on maritime logistics management. Moreover, we hope this review study serves as a future direction on digital twin-empowered smart maritime logistics management practices for both researchers and practitioners.

Abstract Background Houseflies, Musca domestica L., are an ubiquitous pest that can transmit numerous diseases and threaten human health. Increasing insecticide resistance shown by houseflies necessitates the develop new control alternatives. The housefly gut is densely colonized with microorganisms that interact with each other dynamically and benefit the host’s health. However, the impact of multiple symbiotic bacteria on the composition of housefly gut microbiota and the host’s activities remains unclear. Methods We isolated and cultured 12 bacterial species from the intestines of housefly larvae. We also isolated seven bacteriophages to precisely target the regulation of certain bacterial species. Using 16S rRNA high-throughput gene sequencing, we analyzed the bacterial diversity after orally administering bacteria/phage cocktails to houseflies. Results Our results showed that larval growth was promoted, the abundance of beneficial bacteria, such as Klebsiella and Enterobacter, was increased and the abundance of harmful bacteria, such as Providencia, Morganella and Pseudomonas, was decreased in housefly larvae fed with the beneficial bacteria cocktail. However, oral administration of both beneficial and harmful bacterial phage cocktails inhibited larval growth, probably due to the drastic alteration of gut flora. Untargeted metabolomics using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry showed that disturbances in gut microbiota changed the larval metabolite profiles. Feeding experiments revealed that disrupting the intestinal flora suppressed the beneficial bacteria and increased the harmful bacteria, causing changes in the metabolites and inhibiting larval growth. Conclusions Based on our results, bacteria/phage cocktails are effective tools for regulating the intestinal flora of insects and have a high potential as a biological control agent for incorporation into an integrated pest management program. Infection following inguinal hernia repair (IHR) is uncommon. Rational use of antibiotics can significantly improve the prognosis of patients. However, accurately identifying the pathogen involved is usually challenging. This case report describes a patient who developed intermittent fever after undergoing open preperitoneal tension-free repair of a bilateral inguinal hernia. The scrotal fluid specimen was cultured and subjected to metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). Culture revealed the presence of Enterococcus faecalis (a facultative anaerobe). However, mNGS detected E. faecalis along with multiple anaerobic bacteria including Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Parabacteroides distasonis, and Levyella massiliensis. The patient was finally diagnosed with a mixed infection of E. faecalis and multiple anaerobes, and his condition was effectively controlled after timely adjustment of the antibiotic regimen. Treating postoperative infections with multiple concurrent conditions can be challenging. mNGS is valuable for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of infections, as it not only can further verify the culture results, but also assist clinicians in ruling out pulmonary infection caused by hematogenous dissemination after IHR in patients.

Method Imaging data were retrospectively collected from 60 patients who underwent inpatient treatment for rotator cuff tears at a hospital between March 2021 and May 2023. A dataset of the supraspinatus from MRI was constructed after collecting, filtering, and manually annotating at the pixel level. This paper proposes a novel A-DAsppUnet network that can automatically extract the supraspinatus after training and optimization. The analysis of model performance is based on three evaluation metrics: precision, intersection over union, and Dice coefficient. Results The experimental results demonstrate that the precision, intersection over union, and Dice coefficients of the proposed model are 99.20%, 83.38%, and 90.94%, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed model exhibited significant advantages over the compared models. Conclusion The designed model in this paper accurately extracts the supraspinatus from MRI, and the extraction results are complete and continuous with clear boundaries. The feasibility of using deep learning methods for musculoskeletal extraction and assisting in clinical decision-making was verified. This research holds practical significance and application value in the field of utilizing artificial intelligence for assisting medical decision-making.

This paper presents a novel low-cost and fully-portable instrumented shoe system for gait phase detection. The instrumented shoe consists of 174 independent sensing units constructed based on an off-the-shelf force-sensitive film known as the Velostat conductive copolymer. A zero potential method was implemented to address the crosstalk effect among the matrix-formed sensing arrays. A customized algorithm for gait event and phase detection was developed to estimate stance sub-phases including initial contact, flat foot, and push off. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed instrumented shoe system in gait phase detection for both straight-line walking and turning walking. The results showed that the mean absolute time differences between the estimated phases by the proposed instrumented shoe system and the reference measurement ranged from 45 to 58 ms during straight-line walking and from 51 to 77 ms during turning walking, which were comparable to the state of art.Clinical and Translational Impact Statement—By allowing convenient gait monitoring in home healthcare settings, the proposed system enables extensive ADL data collection and facilitates developing effective treatment and rehabilitation strategies for patients with movement disorders.

49. Building energy consumption prediction method based on Bayesian regression and thermal inertia correction

The accurate prediction of building energy consumption is a crucial prerequisite for demand response (DR) and energy efficiency management of buildings. Nevertheless, the thermal inertia and probability distribution characteristics of energy consumption are frequently ignored by traditional prediction methods. This paper proposes a building energy consumption prediction method based on Bayesian regression and thermal inertia correction. The thermal inertia correction model is established by introducing an equivalent temperature variable to characterize the influence of thermal inertia on temperature. The equivalent temperature is described as a linear function of the actual temperature, and the key parameters of the function are optimized through genetic algorithm (GA). Using historical energy usage, temperature, and date type as inputs and future building energy comsuption as output, a Bayesian regression prediction model is established. Through Bayesian inference, combined with prior information on building energy usage data, the posterior probability distribution of building energy usage is inferred, thereby achieving accurate forecast of building energy consumption. The case study is conducted using energy consumption data from a commercial building in Nanjing. The results of the case study indicate that the proposed thermal inertia correction method is effective in narrowing the distribution of temperature data from a range of 24.5°C to 36.5°C to a more concentrated range of 26.5°C to 34°C, thereby facilitating a more focused and advantageous data distribution for predictions. Upon applying the thermal inertia correction method, the relative errors of the Radial Basis Function (RBF) and Deep Belief Network (DBN) decreases by 2.0% and 3.1% respectively, reaching 10.9% and 7.0% correspondingly. Moreover, with the utilization of Bayesian regression, the relative error further decreases to 4.4%. Notably, the Bayesian regression method not only achieves reduced errors but also provides probability distribution, demonstrating superiority over traditional methods.

In a satellite communication system deployed with massive MIMO, when the number of users far exceeds the number of beams of the satellite, it is still difficult to satisfy the delay requirements of the satellite communication system even if the number of RF chains is increased, i.e., the number of concurrently serving users is increased.To address the above problems, it proposed a dynamic beam hopping (BH) scheme based on user grouping for communication service coverage.The proposed method utilized the sparsity of the angular domain channel distribution to adaptively divide user groups accorded to the beam direction where the user energy is maximum.The number of co-channel user groups was constrained by power and interference constraints, limiting the reduction of communication traffic delay, as power limitations on the satellite make the number of RF chains limited and increased the number of simultaneously served user groups increased the interference between user groups.So the BH scheme with beam cluster grouping was further proposed, when the beam clusters reduced the user delay by increased the number of users served at the same moment.Since the above problem was non-convex, it adopt a data-driven determinantal point process (DPP) learning method to simplify the beam scheduling in BH scheme.Simulation results showed that the dynamic BH algorithm based on user grouping could effectively reduce the average user delay by more than 52% compared with the single-beam scheme, also verifies the versatility of the DPP learning.
