Objective: In the early stage of COVID‐19 pandemic from December 2019 to March 2020, COVID‐19 patients endured huge mental stress combined with constant physiological suffering. We aimed to summarize the emotional experiences of patients with COVID‐19 during the early stages of the Wuhan crisis and present the coping strategies they used during the extreme time. Methods: We did a qualitative study using an empirical phenomenology approach. COVID‐19 patients with recovery and near discharge were recruited from the Dawu County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hubei province using purposive sampling. Semistructured face‐to‐face interviews were conducted by frontline medical staff and recorded by video and audio, then transcribed by two researchers separately. The Haase adapted version of the Colaizzi method was used to analyze the transcriptional data. Results: We included 18 adult survivors of COVID‐19 (33% female, 67% male) within the age range of 27–83 (mean age 48), and the average duration of isolation was 31.17 days. In conjunction with clinical data, we meticulously delved into the emotional trajectory of each survivor, spanning from the onset of illness through the phases of decline, improvement, and eventual recovery. Three theme categories were obtained from data analysis, including negative emotions and sources, coping strategies, and positive emotions and sources. COVID‐19 patients adopted self‐management strategies and received support from different roles when confronting high level of negative emotions. Conclusions: Early survivors of COVID‐19 experienced both negative and positive emotional experiences. Anxiety and other negative emotions were originated from both collective and individual concerns. The influence of the emotion sources differed at each stage of the disease. Patients coped with these stressors using external supports and self‐adjustment. Still, comprehensive and targeted psychological services are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Loneliness has long been a significant psychosocial problem for migrant children in urban China. In recent years, social changes and enhancements in social welfare equity have lessened the disadvantages faced by these migrant children. The current study investigated the time‐trend of loneliness levels among migrant children from 2006 to 2019. A literature search was performed within major Chinese‐ and English‐language databases, and studies that reported the means and standard deviations of Children's Loneliness Scale (CLS) scores among Chinese migrant children were included in this cross‐temporal meta‐analysis. Weighted linear regression was conducted to examine the trend of mean CLS scores over the survey year, and Cohen's d value was calculated to assess the magnitude of change. In total, 40 cross‐sectional studies conducted between 2006 and 2019 (published by 2022), consisting of 47 cohorts of migrant children and a total sample size of 17,090, were included. Overall, there was a significant downward trend between the survey year and mean CLS score (unstandardized coefficient [β] = −0.342, P < 0.001), and Cohen's d value of this decline from 2006 to 2019 was 0.411. Similar declining time‐trends were also observed among subgroups when broken down by sex, school type, and geographic regions (β = −0.182 to −0.589, P < 0.001, d = 0.222–0.719). The loneliness levels of migrant children in urban China decreased from 2006 to 2019. Nevertheless, sustained measures and inclusive policies are still needed to mitigate the loneliness levels of Chinese migrant children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the presence of individual differences in the depressive symptom change in adults during the COVID‐19 pandemic, most studies have investigated population‐level changes in depression during the first year of the pandemic. This longitudinal repeated‐measurement study obtained 39,259 observations from 4,361 adults assessed nine times over a 24‐month period in Norway (March 2020 to March 2022). Using a Latent Change Score Mixture Model to investigate differential change patterns in depressive symptoms, five profiles were identified. Most adults revealed a consistently resilient (42.52%) or predominantly resilient pattern differentiated by an initial shock in symptomatology (13.17%). Another group exhibited consistently high depressive adversities (8.5%). One group showed mild deterioration with small increases in depressive symptomatology compared to onset levels (29.04%), and a second strong deterioration group exhibited clinically severe levels of gained symptoms over time (6.77%). Both deteriorating depressive symptom change patterns predicted the presence of a psychiatric diagnosis and treatment seeking at the end of the study period. Together, the absence of a preexisting psychiatric diagnosis at the onset of the pandemic and severe symptom increases during, combined with reports of psychiatric treatment seeking and diagnosis at the end of the study period, indicated that the strongly deteriorating subgroup represents an additional and newly emerged group of adults struggling with depressive problems. Factors related to general adverse change (lower education levels, lone residence), initial shocks prior to recovery (frequent information seeking, financial and occupational concerns), and resilience and recovery (older age, being in a relationship, physical activity) were identified. Binge drinking and belonging to an ethnic minority were influential predictors of the strongly deteriorating group. All major change patterns in depressive symptoms occurred during the first 3 months of the pandemic, suggesting this period represents a window of sensitivity for the development of long‐lasting depressive states versus patterns of recovery and resilience. These findings call for increased vigilance of psychiatric symptoms during the initial phases of infectious disease outbreaks and highlight a specific target period for the implementation of preventive measures. Introduction. The acquisition of a college education is typically indicative of a resource advantage. However, in recent years, college graduates have faced increasing mental health related issues. The health advantages derived from this resource advantage have become increasingly less pronounced. This study aims to examine the effects of college education on depressive symptoms. Materials and Methods. We used data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), and combined this dataset with Chinese Education Examination Yearbook. We took advantage of variations in educational attainment, which was generated by college expansion policy, and adopted instrumental variables (IV) approach to identify the causal relationship. Results. Our findings indicated that college education did not have a causal effect on promoting mental health. The results were supported by the fact that they held within each subgroup. Notably, our limited evidence suggested that college expansion policy promoted equity in educational access. Conclusion. This study provided new and valuable evidence of education‐induced health inequalities from the top of the education distribution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
