Abstract In patients with relapsed or refractory neuroblastoma (NB), the limited efficacy of conventional chemotherapies necessitates the exploration of new treatment options. Previous studies have highlighted the anti-tumor properties of arsenic trioxide (ATO) in high-risk NB (HR-NB). This study aims to assess the effectiveness and safety of ATO combined with salvage chemotherapy regimens, featuring cyclophosphamide and topotecan, as a foundational treatment for children with relapsed or refractory NB. Eleven patients (four relapsed, seven refractory NB) were retrospectively analyzed for efficacy and treatment relevance. Salvage treatments, incorporating ATO (0.18 mg/kg daily for 8 h intravenously on days 1 to 10), were administered upon disease progression or relapse, with assessments conducted every two cycles. Treatments had 63.6% efficacy, with six cases of partial response, one case of stable disease, and four cases of disease progression. The overall response rate was 54.5%, and the disease control rate was 63.6%. Importantly, the systemic toxicity experienced by patients following salvage chemotherapy with ATO was mild. Salvage chemotherapy regimens featuring ATO demonstrated potential for prolonging disease stabilization for relapsed or refractory HR-NB patients, exhibiting both favorable efficacy and safety profiles. This suggests further clinical exploration and promotion of this therapeutic approach in the treatment of NB.

The mechanism of pore evolution in vacuum electron beam joints of Mo-14Re alloy has been thoroughly investigated. Microscopic characterization methods, including Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), were employed to explore the evolution mechanism of pore defects at different locations. Weld defects were further characterized using Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), providing insights into their formation mechanisms. The findings reveal that pores along grain boundaries are the result of MoO and CO bubble aggregation. Non-equilibrium solidification of the melt triggers chemical reactions, transforming MoO and CO bubbles into MoO3 and C, with lower melting points. MoO3 and C persist in the pores, leading to the formation of grain boundary gas hole defects. On the other hand, intragranular pore defects stem from an abundance of pores within the matrix material. Upon entry of gas from these pores into the molten pool, its escape is impeded due to the intense influence of the molten pool. After the molten pool completes the cooling and solidification process, the gas remains within the crystal, resulting in intragranular pore defects.

Metal Oxide Thin Film Transistors (MO TFTs) have garnered considerable interest in emerging Internet of Things (IoT) fields such as wearable electronics, displays, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and biomedical monitoring, owing to their flexibility and transparency. However, limitations in channel materials make MO TFT-based circuits unipolar. Unipolar circuits often exhibit elevated short-circuit power consumption, which restricts the development of MO TFTs in the IoT sector. This paper introduces a Capacitively Coupled Near-Threshold Biasing (CCNB) technique that leverages the unique Capacitance-Voltage (C-V) characteristics of MO TFTs to bias devices in the near-threshold region, achieving nearly a 95% reduction in power consumption compared to traditional designs with the device coupling ratio (channel capacitance/overlap capacitance) at 40. Furthermore, considering the significance of clock signals in IoT applications, we have also developed a low-power full-swing Ring Oscillator (RO) based on our CCNB technique, resulting in a 90% reduction in power consumption and a nearly 70% reduction in PDP compared to conventional low-power designs.

Bacteria in the phylum Gemmatimonadota are globally distributed and abundant in microbial communities of various environments, playing an important role in driving biogeochemical cycling on Earth. Although high diversities in taxonomic composition and metabolic capabilities have been reported, little is known about the environmental preferences and associated functional features that facilitate adaptation among different Gemmatimonadota lineages. This study systematically analyzed the relationships between the environments, taxonomy, and functions of Gemmatimonadota lineages, by using a comparative genomics approach based on 1356 Gemmatimonadota genomes (213 high-quality and non-redundant genomes) available in a public database (NCBI). The taxonomic analysis showed that the 99.5% of the genomes belong to the class Gemmatimonadetes, and the rest of the genomes belong to the class Glassbacteria. Functional profiling revealed clear environmental preference among different lineages of Gemmatimonadota, and a marine group and two non-marine groups were identified and tested to be significantly different in functional composition. Further annotation and statistical comparison revealed a large number of functional genes (e.g., amiE, coxS, yfbK) that were significantly enriched in genomes from the marine group, supporting enhanced capabilities in energy acquisition, genetic information regulation (e.g., DNA repair), electrolyte homeostasis, and growth rate control. These genomic features are important for their survival in the marine environment, which is oligotrophic, variable, and with high salinity. The findings enhanced our understanding of the metabolic processes and environmental adaptation of Gemmatimonadota, and further advanced the understanding of the interactions of microorganisms and their habitats.

Macrophages, known for their phenotypic plasticity, play a critical role in maintaining homeostasis and inflammation-related pathogenesis. Although identifying diverse macrophage phenotypes holds promise for enhancing diagnoses and treatments of diseases mediated by macrophages, existing methodologies for differentiating macrophages often lack precision. They are limited by the cumbersome procedures that require large-scale equipment, such as flow cytometry and transcriptomic analysis. In this context, we have engineered fluorescent polyadenine (polyA)-mediated sticky flares that enable practical visualization of macrophages. This technology facilitates the highly sensitive detection of macrophage phenotypes through the specific recognition of intracellular mRNAs, permitting in situ imaging. Our approach demonstrates the potential for determining macrophage polarization status at the single-cell level within dynamic immune microenvironments, thereby providing crucial diagnostic and prognostic information that could guide the development of tailored treatments for macrophage-related diseases in personalized medicine.

Due to the adverse environmental impacts of toxic heavy metal–based antifoulants, the screening of environmentally friendly antifoulants has become important for the development of marine antifouling technology. Compared with the traditional lengthy and costly screening method, computer-aided drug design (CADD) offers a promising and efficient solution that can accelerate the screening process of green antifoulants. In this study, we selected barnacle chitin synthase (CHS, an important enzyme for barnacle settlement and development) as the target protein for docking screening. Three CHS genes were identified in the barnacle Amphibalanus amphitrite, and their encoded proteins were found to share a conserved glycosyltransferase domain. Molecular docking of 31,561 marine natural products with AaCHSs revealed that zoanthamine alkaloids had the best binding affinity (−11.8 to −12.6 kcal/mol) to AaCHSs. Considering that the low abundance of zoanthamine alkaloids in marine organisms would limit their application as antifoulants, a marine fungal–derived natural product, mycoepoxydiene (MED), which has a similar chemical structure to zoanthamine alkaloids and the potential for large-scale production by fermentation, was selected and validated for stable binding to AaCHS2L2 using molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. Finally, the efficacy of MED in inhibiting cyprid settlement of A. amphitrite was confirmed by a bioassay that demonstrated an EC50 of 1.97 μg/mL, suggesting its potential as an antifoulant candidate. Our research confirmed the reliability of using AaCHSs as antifouling targets and has provided insights for the efficient discovery of green antifoulants by CADD.

In high-frequency power electronics applications, gallium nitride high electron mobility transistors (GaN HEMTs) can switch at frequencies of several megahertz. In this case, the driving loss of transistors becomes one of the important reasons that affect the entire conversion efficiency of the system. p-doped GaN (p-GaN) as a new GaN HEMT structure has achieved commercial success in recent years, but due to its special structure, traditional resonant driving schemes designed for Si-MOSFETs have poor applicability to p-GaN HEMTs. Therefore, according to the structure characteristics and the driving requirements of p-GaN HEMTs, an improved resonant driving scheme is proposed. In the proposed driving scheme, the gate charge energy is recycled to the resonant capacitor when the p-GaN HEMT is turned off, and released when it is turned on, thus reducing the driving power loss. The working principle of the driving circuit and the design method of component parameters are given in this paper. The experimental results show that for high-frequency applications with switching frequencies exceeding several megahertz, the power loss of the proposed resonant driving scheme is significantly lower than that of non-resonant driving scheme, which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Ultra-fine dry powder extinguishing agent (UDPEA) is a promising alternative to Halon agents in aviation firefighting. The formulation of UDPEAs should balance environmental friendliness and practical engineering requirements, including high extinguishing efficiency, excellent flowability, and prolonged anti-reignition. This study investigates the effects of three modification methods (single perfluorooctyl triethoxysilane (FOTS), single N-(3-Triethoxysilylpropyl)perfluoro(2,5-dimethyl-3,6-dioxanonanoyl)amide (PFPE), and a combination of FOTS and PFPE at various mass ratios (2.0:0.4, 1.6:0.8, 1.2:1.2, 0.8:1.6, 0.4:2.0) (g)) on the performance of sodium bicarbonate-based UDPEA. The results indicate that using FOTS or PFPE alone improves the water and oil contact angles, but still fails to meet the required hydrophobicity and oleophobicity standards, and it also reduces the flowability and fire-extinguishing capability. A combination of FOTS and PFPE at the 1:2 ratio yields the best performance, with the water and oil contact angles of 145.169° and 143.542°, respectively, the lowest flowability index (0.224), minimal extinguishing concentration and time (14.183 g/m3 and 1.976 s, respectively), which is only 52.7% and 68.3% of those of the unmodified UDPEA’s (26.927 g/m3 and 2.893 s), and the longest anti-reignition time (68.5 s). In addition, the fire-extinguishing mechanisms (chemical inhibition and physical heat absorption) and anti-reignition mechanisms of the modified UDPEA (with the FOTS to PFPE ratio of 1:2) were revealed. This research aims to design an eco-friendly, high-performance UDPEA as an effective substitute for Halon extinguishing agents. These findings can provide valuable insights for evaluating and selecting aviation fire-extinguishing agents.

Ultrafine KAl(OH)2CO3 dry powder (UDWP), as a novel high-temperature-resistant ultrafine dry powder fire extinguishing agent, has garnered significant attention in the field of aviation fire protection. However, its development has been hindered by its hydrophilicity, which leads to hygroscopicity, and its tendency for re-ignition due to oil deposition. Therefore, this study employs perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (PFDTMS) to modify the surface of UDWP, resulting in hydrophobic and oleophobic M-UDWP. The thermal stability and hydrophobicity of M-UDWP ensure its long-term stable storage in aircraft equipment compartments, thereby reducing aircraft maintenance costs. Additionally, its oleophobicity provides excellent anti-re-ignition performance, protecting aircraft power compartments from secondary fire damage. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses indicate that the PFDTMS modifier was successfully grafted onto KAl(OH)2CO3. Furthermore, M-UDWP exhibits a three-stage thermal decomposition process. The first-stage decomposition can be regarded as a single-step reaction, and the calculated kinetic parameters provide accurate predictions. Thermogravimetric analysis-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-mass spectrometry (TG-FTIR-MS) results reveal that M-UDWP significantly produces H2O and CO2 during thermal decomposition, which is one of its core fire extinguishing mechanisms. For the combustion of #RP-3 and #RP-5 aviation kerosene, commonly found in aircraft engine nacelles, the extinguishing times required by M-UDWP are 243 ms and 224 ms, respectively, with minimum extinguishing concentrations (MEC) of 25.9 g/m3 and 23.4 g/m3, respectively. The study of M-UDWP’s thermal stability aids in understanding its storage stability under high-temperature conditions and its fire extinguishing mechanisms in fire zones. Moreover, the research findings suggest that M-UDWP has the potential to replace Halon 1301 in aircraft engine nacelles.

Background Treatment for parameningeal rhabdomyosarcoma (PM-RMS) has been a challenge since local control is difficult. The goal of this study was to analyse the impact of different local treatment approaches on childhood PM-RMS patients and help dispel the doubt that whether secondary radical surgery (SRS) should be encouraged in the management of PM-RMS. Methods A total of 17 children with PM-RMS who received unified systemic chemotherapy and individualized local therapy such as radiotherapy (RT) and/or SRS were included in this retrospective study. The overall survival (OS) and event free survival (EFS) were compared between groups adopting different local strategies. Results The 3-year OS and EFS of our PM-RMS patients was 75.5% and 56.5% respectively. The OS and EFS of patients who received SRS were both significantly lower than that of the non-SRS group (3-year OS: 50.0% vs 90.0%, P = .031; 3-year EFS: 33.3% vs 60.6%, P = .020). The OS and EFS of the patients who received RT was higher than that of the patients of the non-RT group (3-year OS: 85.6% vs 0%, P = .001; 3-year EFS: 64.0% vs 0%, P = .011). Conclusion This study illustrates that SRS was associated with poor prognosis of PM-RMS and should not be routinely performed. Optimized RT strategies along with more intensive chemotherapy may be alternative options to improve the survival of patients with PM-RMS. Multi-center, large sample and prospective studies are needed to further validate these findings.

The classical four-coil magnetic resonance coupling wireless power transfer (MRC-WPT) system usually uses a Series-Series-Series-Series (SSSS) compensation network, while its input series resistance and load resistance are designed approximately. I It is a remarkable fact that the power loss of the input series resistance adversely affects the overall efficiency of the WPT system, but the absence of the resistance will lead to the input current surge when the four-coil system is detuned, which is not conducive to the stability of the security of the circuit system. With this aim in mind, an Inductance-Capacitance-Capacitance-Series-Series-Series (LCC-SSS) compensation network is proposed in this paper, which removes the input series resistance to improve the total efficiency on the premise of ensuring the reliability of the system. Relation between transmission efficiency, transmission power and parameters of LCC-SSS compensation network, the parametric calculation method of LCC compensation network is presented. Finally, the experimental results compare the transmission power and efficiency of the two compensation networks and verify the correctness of the LCC-SSS compensation network.

Most fouling organisms have planktonic larval and benthic adult stages. Larval settlement, the planktonic–benthic transition, is the critical point when biofouling begins. However, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of larval settlement is limited. In our previous studies, we identified that the AMP-activated protein kinase-silk gland factor 1 (AMPK-SGF1) pathway was involved in triggering the larval settlement in the fouling mussel M. sallei. In this study, to further confirm the pivotal role of SGF1, multiple targeted binding compounds of SGF1 were obtained using high-throughput virtual screening. It was found that the targeted binding compounds, such as NAD+ and atorvastatin, could significantly induce and inhibit the larval settlement, respectively. Furthermore, the qRT-PCR showed that the expression of the foot proteins’ genes was significantly increased after the exposure to 10 μM NAD+, while the gene expression was significantly suppressed after the exposure to 10 μM atorvastatin. Additionally, the production of the byssus threads of the adults was significantly increased after the exposure to 10–20 μM of NAD+, while the production of the byssus threads was significantly decreased after the exposure to 10–50 μM of atorvastatin. This work will deepen our understanding of SGF1 in triggering the larval settlement in mussels and will provide insights into the potential targets for developing novel antifouling agents.

The shales of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation in the North China Basin have good prospects for shale gas exploration and development. In this study, Well KP1 at the northern margin of the North China Basin was used as the research object for rock mineral, organic geochemical, and elemental geochemical analyses. The results show that brittle minerals in the shales of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation are relatively rare (50%). The average TOC content is 3.68%. The organic matter is mainly mixed and sapropelic. The source rocks of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation are mainly felsic, and the tectonic background lies in the continental island arc area. The primary variables that influenced the enrichment of organic materials during the sedimentary stage of the Taiyuan Formation were paleosalinity and paleoproductivity. Paleosalinity acted as the primary regulator of organic matter enrichment during the sedimentary stage of the Shanxi Formation.

Against the background of climate warming, marine heatwaves (MHWs) and terrestrial drought events have become increasingly frequent in recent decades. However, the combined effects of MHWs and terrestrial drought on CO2 uptake in marginal seas are still unclear. The East China Sea (ECS) experienced an intense and long-lasting MHW accompanied by an extreme terrestrial drought in the Changjiang basin in the summer of 2022. In this study, we employed multi-source satellite remote sensing products to reveal the patterns, magnitude, and potential drivers of CO2 flux changes in the ECS resulting from the compounding MHW and terrestrial drought extremes. The CO2 uptake of the ECS reduced by 17.0% (1.06 Tg C) in the latter half of 2022 and the Changjiang River plume region shifted from a CO2 sink to a source (releasing 0.11 Tg C) in July-September. In the majority of the ECS, the positive sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly during the MHW diminished the solubility of CO2 in seawater, thereby reducing CO2 uptake. Moreover, the reduction in nutrient input associated with terrestrial drought, which is unfavorable to phytoplankton growth, further reduced the capacity of CO2 uptake. Meanwhile, the CO2 sink doubled for the offshore waters of the ECS continental shelf in July-September 2022, indicating the complexity and heterogeneity of the impacts of extreme climatic events in marginal seas. This study is of great significance in improving the estimation results of CO2 fluxes in marginal seas and understanding sea–air CO2 exchanges against the background of global climate change.

Sulfide-based all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASSLIBs) are one of the most promising energy storage technologies due to their high safety and ionic conductivity. To achieve greater energy density, a Ni-rich layered oxide LiNixCoyM1-x-yO2 (NCM, M ​= ​Mn/Al, x ​≥ ​0.6) is desirable due to its relatively high voltage and large capacity. However, interfacial side reactions between the NCM and sulfide solid electrolytes lead to undesirable interfacial passivation layers and low ionic conductivity, thereby degrading the electrochemical performance of NCM sulfide all-solid-state batteries. Herein, a time-/cost-effective sulfidation strategy is exploited to sulfidize a Ni-rich NCM88 cathode in a mixed gas atmosphere of N2 and CS2. A new type of cathode (NCM88-S) with an ultrathin (∼2 ​nm) surface layer is obtained, which significantly reduces the interfacial side reactions/resistance and improves the interfacial stability. The resulting NCM88-S/Li6PS5Cl/Li4Ti5O12 ASSLIB exhibits superior performance, including a high discharge specific capacity (200.7 mAh g−1) close to that of liquid batteries, excellent cycling performance (a capacity retention of 87% after 500 cycles), and satisfactory rate performance (158.3 mAh g−1 at 1C).

Abstract Background Transcriptome sequencing is an effective tool to reveal the essential genes and pathways underlying countless biotic and abiotic stress adaptation mechanisms. Although severely challenged by diverse environmental conditions, the Pacific abalone Haliotis discus hannai remains a high-value aquaculture mollusk and a Chinese predominantly cultured abalone species. Salinity is one of such environmental factors whose fluctuation could significantly affect the abalone’s cellular and molecular immune responses and result in high mortality and reduced growth rate during prolonged exposure. Meanwhile, hybrids have shown superiority in tolerating diverse environmental stresses over their purebred counterparts and have gained admiration in the Chinese abalone aquaculture industry. The objective of this study was to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of low salinity adaptation in abalone. Therefore, this study used transcriptome analysis of the gill tissues and flow cytometric analysis of hemolymph of H. discus hannai (DD) and interspecific hybrid H. discus hannai ♀ x H. fulgens ♂ (DF) during low salinity exposure. Also, the survival and growth rate of the species under various salinities were assessed. Results The transcriptome data revealed that the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were significantly enriched on the fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis (FSS) pathway. Meanwhile, the expression profiles of some essential genes involved in this pathway suggest that abalone significantly up-regulated calmodulin-4 (CaM-4) and heat-shock protein90 (HSP90), and significantly down-regulated tumor necrosis factor (TNF), bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP-4), and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB). Also, the hybrid DF showed significantly higher and sustained expression of CaM and HSP90, significantly higher phagocytosis, significantly lower hemocyte mortality, and significantly higher survival at low salinity, suggesting a more active molecular and hemocyte-mediated immune response and a more efficient capacity to tolerate low salinity than DD. Conclusions Our study argues that the abalone CaM gene might be necessary to maintain ion equilibrium while HSP90 can offset the adverse changes caused by low salinity, thereby preventing damage to gill epithelial cells (ECs). The data reveal a potential molecular mechanism by which abalone responds to low salinity and confirms that hybridization could be a method for breeding more stress-resilient aquatic species.

Coastal eutrophication and hypoxia remain a persistent environmental crisis despite the great efforts to reduce nutrient loading and mitigate associated environmental damages. Symptoms of this crisis have appeared to spread rapidly, reaching developing countries in Asia with emergences in Southern America and Africa. The pace of changes and the underlying drivers remain not so clear. To address the gap, we review the up-to-date status and mechanisms of eutrophication and hypoxia in global coastal oceans, upon which we examine the trajectories of changes over the 40 years or longer in six model coastal systems with varying socio-economic development statuses and different levels and histories of eutrophication. Although these coastal systems share common features of eutrophication, site-specific characteristics are also substantial, depending on the regional environmental setting and level of social-economic development along with policy implementation and management. Nevertheless, ecosystem recovery generally needs greater reduction in pressures compared to that initiated degradation and becomes less feasible to achieve past norms with a longer time anthropogenic pressures on the ecosystems. While the qualitative causality between drivers and consequences is well established, quantitative attribution of these drivers to eutrophication and hypoxia remains difficult especially when we consider the social economic drivers because the changes in coastal ecosystems are subject to multiple influences and the cause–effect relationship is often non-linear. Such relationships are further complicated by climate changes that have been accelerating over the past few decades. The knowledge gaps that limit our quantitative and mechanistic understanding of the human-coastal ocean nexus are identified, which is essential for science-based policy making. Recognizing lessons from past management practices, we advocate for a better, more efficient indexing system of coastal eutrophication and an advanced regional earth system modeling framework with optimal modules of human dimensions to facilitate the development and evaluation of effective policy and restoration actions.

An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of L-methionine and methionine hydroxy analogue calcium (MHA-Ca) supplements in low-fishmeal diet on growth performance, hepatopancreas morphology, protein metabolism, anti-oxidative capacity, and immunity of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). Four isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were designed: PC (203.3 g/kg fishmeal), NC (100 g/kg fishmeal), MET (100 g/kg fishmeal +3 g/kg L-methionine) and MHA-Ca (100 g/kg fishmeal +3 g/kg MHA-Ca). White shrimp (initial body weight 0.23 ± 0.00 g, 50 shrimp per tank) were allocated to 12 tanks and divided among 4 treatments in triplicates. In response to L-methionine and MHA-Ca supplementations, the shrimp exhibited higher weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), condition factor (CF), and lower hepatosomatic index (HSI) compared to those fed the NC diet (p < 0.05). The WGR and SGR of shrimp fed L-methionine and MHA-Ca showed no difference with those in the PC diet (p > 0.05). Both of L-methionine and MHA-Ca supplementary diets significantly decreased the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels of shrimp when compared with the NC diet (p < 0.05). L-methionine supplementation improved the lysozyme (LZM) activity and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) of shrimp, while the MHA-Ca addition elevated the reduced glutathione (GSH) levels in comparison with those fed the NC diet (p < 0.05). Hypertrophied blister cells in hepatocytes were observed in shrimp fed the NC diet, and alleviated with L-methionine and MHA-Ca supplementations. Shrimp fed the MET and MHA-Ca diets had higher mRNA expression levels of target of rapamycin (tor) than those fed the NC diet (p < 0.05). Compared to the NC group, dietary MHA-Ca supplementation upregulated the expression level of cysteine dioxygenase (cdo) (p < 0.05), while L-methionine supplementation had no significant impact (p > 0.05). The expression levels of superoxide dismutase (sod) and glutathione peroxidase (gpx) were significantly upregulated by L-methionine supplemented diet in comparison with those in the NC group (p < 0.05). Overall, the addition of both L-methionine and MHA-Ca elevated the growth performance, facilitated protein synthesis, and ameliorated hepatopancreatic damage induced by plant-protein enriched diet in L. vannamei. L-methionine and MHA-Ca supplements enhanced anti-oxidants differently.

Based on the microscopic pore-throat characterization of typical continental tight reservoirs in China, such as sandstone of Cretaceous Qingshankou and Quantou formations in Songliao Basin, NE China sandy conglomerate of Baikouquan Formation in Mahu area and hybrid rock of Lucaogou Formation in Jimusaer sag of Junggar Basin, NE China the theoretical lower limit, oil accumulation lower limit, effective flow lower limit and the upper limit of tight oil reservoirs were defined by water film thickness method, oil bearing occurrence method, oil testing productivity method and mechanical balance method, respectively. Cluster analysis method was used to compare the differences in pore-throat structure of different tight reservoirs, determine the grading criterion of tight reservoirs, and analyze its correlation with the limit of reservoir formation. The results show that the boundary between tight reservoir and conventional reservoir corresponds to the upper limit of physical properties, the boundary of class II and class III tight reservoirs corresponds to the lower limit of effective flow, the boundary of class III and class IV tight reservoirs corresponds to the lower limit of reservoir forming, and the theoretical lower limit of tight reservoir corresponds to the boundary between tight reservoir and non-reservoir. Finally, the application results of the grading evaluation criterion show that the tight oil productivity is highly controlled by the type of tight reservoir, and class I and class II tight reservoirs are the favorable sections for high production of tight oil.

Solving the problem of the transmission of mechanical equipment is complicated, and the interconnection between equipment components in a complex industrial environment can easily lead to faults. A multi-scale-sensor information fusion method is proposed, overcoming the shortcomings of fault diagnosis methods based on the analysis of one signal, in terms of diagnosis accuracy and efficiency. First, different sizes of convolution kernels are applied to extract multi-scale features from original signals using a multi-scale one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1DCNN); this not only improves the learning ability of the features but also enables the fine characterization of the features. Then, using Dempster–Shafer (DS) evidence theory, improved by multi-sensor information fusion strategy, the feature signals extracted by the multi-scale 1DCNN are fused to realize the fault detection and location. Finally, the experimental results of fault detection on a flash furnace show that the accuracy of the proposed method is more than 99.65% and has better fault diagnosis, which proves the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Salinity, as one of the essential physical properties of seawater, is a common tracer differentiating water masses in the ocean, which often require relatively high-resolution datasets. Limited by the coverage of direct observations, however, high-resolution spatial and temporal salinity data are not always available, which hinders the fine application of salinity data in discerning ocean processes and improved modeling of ocean physics and biogeochemistry. To supplement the salinity database, we reconstructed sea surface salinity (SSS) with reasonably high spatial resolution (0.05° × 0.05°) over 2003–2020 in the South China Sea (SCS) with a machine learning algorithm based on a combination of MODIS-Aqua remote sensing data and a large cruise observation-based dataset. The reconstructed SSS has a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.2 when compared with our underway observations with a corresponding root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.3. The MAE between station-based observations and our reconstruction was 0.5, and the RMSE was 0.7. These validations strongly suggest that our reconstruction is highly adequate, representing at most a quarter of the identified discrepancies compared to the remote sensing SSS or two other prevalent model-derived datasets. Based on our reconstruction, the SSS in the SCS is relatively low in coastal waters, but high in the ocean basin, with a seasonal pattern with a minimum in the summer and a maximum in the winter. This spatio-temporal distribution is well consistent with the observations and is affected by the Pearl River plume, sea surface circulation, and precipitation. Using our reconstructed SSS, we were able to successfully characterize the spreading of the Pearl River and Mekong River plumes and the intrusion of the Kuroshio Current from the Pacific Ocean into the SCS.

The mechanical properties such as Young's modulus, hardness and fracture toughness of Lower Silurian Longmaxi shale samples from Youyang area in southeast Chongqing, China were investigated using dot matrix nanoindentation measurements. With the help of field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (EDS), the indentation morphology and mineral composition in indentation area were quantitatively analyzed. According to mechanical strength classification, a micromechanical model with three components was introduced and the Mori-Tanaka model was used to upscale mechanical parameters from nano-scale to centimeter-size scale, which were further compared with uniaxial compression results. The experimental results show that there is a positive linear correlation between Young's modulus and hardness and between the Young's modulus and the fracture toughness under nano-scale; the Young's modulus, hardness and fracture toughness perpendicular to the bedding are slightly lower than those parallel with the bedding. According to data statistics, the mechanical properties at the nano-scale follow Weibull distribution feature and the dispersion degree of hardness results is the highest, which is mainly due to shale anisotropy and nanoindentation projection uncertainty. Comparing the results from nanoindentation test, with those from upscaling model and uniaxial compression test shows that the mechanical parameters at the nano-scale are higher than those from upscaling model and uniaxial compression test, which proves mechanical parameters at different scales have differences. It's because the larger the core, the more pores and internal weakness it contains, the less accurate the interpreted results of mechanical parameters will be. To improve the test accuracy and fault coverage of high-speed railway-related equipment boards, a time-varying pseudorandom disturbance algorithm based on the automatic test pattern generation technology in chip testing is proposed. The algorithm combines the pseudorandom pattern generation algorithm with the deterministic pattern generation D algorithm. The existing pseudorandom number generation method usually requires random seeds to generate a series of pseudorandom numbers. In this algorithm, the system timer is used as the random seed to design a pseudorandom pattern generation method of time-varying seed to improve the randomness of pseudorandom pattern generation. In addition, in combination with the D algorithm, this work proposes a new switching logic between two algorithms by counting invalid pattern proportions. When the algorithm is applied to track a circuit netlist, the fault coverage can reach near 100%. However, the large-scale circuit fault coverage cannot easily reach 100%. The test results for the standard circuits of different sizes show that at the same time, compared with the independent pattern generation methods, the proposed algorithm can improve fault coverage by more than 50% and 30% and significantly improve the pattern generation efficiency. Therefore, it can be used perfectly in the subsequent construction of high-speed railway equipment test platforms.

A hybrid antenna consisting of a patch cavity and a metal grating is designed in this work. This antenna can effectively localize and enhance the intensity of the electric field inside a quantum well photodetector (QWP). The optical properties of the designed antenna are theoretically investigated, and it is found that the electric field can be increased by a factor of ∼104 in the infrared region (6–10 μm) and ∼105 in the terahertz (THz) region (100 μm). These enhancements can greatly improve the performance of QWPs. In the THz region, it is theoretically estimated that the hybrid antenna can increase the working temperature of the detector to 195 K, and the noise equivalent power is theoretically estimated to be as low as ∼10−18 W/Hz0.5 at T = 4 K and ∼10−15 W/Hz0.5 at room temperature, T = 300 K. These results are of great significance for applications of QWPs.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is well recognized as one of the major threats to children's health globally. The increasing complexity of the etiology of HFMD still challenges disease control in China. There is little surveillance of the molecular epidemiological characteristics of the enteroviruses (EVs) that cause HFMD in Neijiang city or the Sichuan Basin area in Southwest China. In this study, demographic and epidemiological information for 14,928 probable HFMD cases was extracted and analyzed to describe the epidemic features of HFMD in Neijiang city from Jan 2010 to Dec 2017. The swab samples of select probable HFMD cases from 2012 to 2017 were tested by reverse transcription (RT) real-time PCR to identify the serotype distribution of EVs, and 110 randomly selected RT-real-time PCR positive samples were then amplified and analyzed for the VP1 or VP4 regions of EVs to further analyze the phylogenetic characteristics of the circulating strains in this area. The eight-year average annual incidence was 49.82 per 100,000 in Neijiang. The incidence rates varied between 19.51 and 70.73 per 100,000, demonstrating peaks of incidence in even-number years (2012, 2014 and 2016). The median age of the probable cases was 27 months and the interquartile range (25th to 75th percentile) of ages for the probable HFMD cases was between 14 and 42 months. The male-to-female ratio of the probable HFMD cases was 1.47:1, and scattered children were the major population classification (81.7%). Two epidemic peaks were observed: one major peak between April and July and the other lesser peak between October and December. Of 6513 probable cases tested with RT-real-time PCR, 4015 (61.6%) were positive for enterovirus with the serotype distribution as follows: EV71+, 30.1% (n = 1210); CV-A16+, 28.7% (n = 1154) and a sole pan-enterovirus+, 41.1% (n = 1651). A total of 91 cases (82.7%, 91/110) were successfully amplified and underwent phylogenetic analysis: all EV71+ cases were C4a serotype (n = 23/30); all CV-A16+ cases were B2b serotype (n = 24/30); of 42 sole pan-enterovirus+ samples, 20 were CV-A6, 14 were CV-A10 and the rest within this group were CV-A4 (n = 4), CV-A8 (n = 2), CV-A9 (n = 1) and CV-B3 (n = 1). Our findings provide important evidence that aids the improvement of strategies for vaccination against HFMD and comprehensive disease control in China.

Transport-induced-charge (TIC) phenomena, in which the concentration imbalance between cations and anions occurs when more than two chemical potential gradients coexist within an ultrathin dimension, entail numerous nanofluidic systems. Evidence has indicated that the presence of TIC produces a nonlinear response of electroosmotic flow to the applied voltage, resulting in complex fluid behavior. In this study, we theoretically investigate thermal effects due to Joule heating on TIC phenomena in an ultrathin nanopore by computational fluid dynamics simulation. Our modeling results show that the rise of local temperature inside the nanopore significantly enhances TIC effects and thus has a significant influence on electroosmotic behavior. A local maximum of the solution conductivity occurs near the entrance of the nanopore at the high salt concentration end, resulting in a reversal of TIC across the nanopore. The Joule heating effects increase the reversal of TIC with the synergy of the negatively charged nanopore, and they also enhance the electroosmotic flow regardless of whether the nanopore is charged. These theoretical observations will improve our knowledge of nonclassical electrokinetic phenomena for flow control in nanopore systems.
