Abstract Ceria (CeO2) is a widely used oxide catalyst, yet the nature of its active sites remains elusive. This study combines model and powder catalyst studies to elucidate the structure-activity relationships in ceria-catalyzed CO activation and hydrogenation. Well-defined ceria clusters are synthesized on planar CeO2(111) and exhibit dynamic and tunable ranges of Ce coordination numbers, which enhance their interaction with CO. Reduced ceria clusters (e.g., Ce3O3) bind CO strongly and facilitate its dissociation, while near-stoichiometric clusters (e.g., Ce3O7) adsorb CO weakly and promote oxidation via carbonate formation. Unlike planar ceria surfaces, supported ceria clusters exhibit dynamic properties and enhanced catalytic activity, that mimic those of powder ceria catalysts. Insight from model studies provide a method to quantify active sites on powder ceria and guide further optimization of ceria catalysts for syngas conversion. This work marks a leap toward model-guided catalyst design and highlights the importance of site-specific catalysis.

Abstract In addition to its fundamental interest, the long-distance spin transport is essential for spintronic devices. However, the spin relaxation caused by scattering of the particles carrying the spin limits spin transport. We explored spatially indirect excitons (IXs) in van der Waals heterostructures composed of atomically thin layers of transition-metal dichalcogenides as spin carries. We observed the long-distance spin transport: the spin polarized excitons travel over the entire sample, ~10 micron away from the excitation spot, with no spin density decay. This transport is characterized by the 1/e decay distances reaching ~100 micron. The 1/e decay distances are extracted from fits over the ~10 micron sample size. The emergence of long-distance spin transport is observed at the densities and temperatures where the IX transport decay distances and, in turn, scattering times are strongly enhanced. The suppression of IX scattering suppresses the spin relaxation and enables the long-distance spin transport.

Abstract The presence of defects at the interface between the perovskite film and the carrier transport layer poses significant challenges to the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Addressing this issue, we introduce a dual host-guest (DHG) complexation strategy to modulate both the bulk and interfacial properties of FAPbI3-rich PSCs. Through NMR spectroscopy, a synergistic effect of the dual treatment is observed. Additionally, electro-optical characterizations demonstrate that the DHG strategy not only passivates defects but also enhances carrier extraction and transport. Remarkably, employing the DHG strategy yields PSCs with power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of 25.89% (certified at 25.53%). Furthermore, these DHG-modified PSCs exhibit enhanced operational stability, retaining over 96.6% of their initial PCE of 25.55% after 1050 hours of continuous operation under one-sun illumination, which was the highest initial value in the recently reported articles. This work establishes a promising pathway for stabilizing high-efficiency perovskite photovoltaics through supramolecular engineering, marking a significant advancement in the field.

Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver disorder with high morbidity and mortality. The current study aims to explore the role of Cullin-associated and neddylation-dissociated protein 1 (CAND1) in the development of NAFLD and the underlying mechanisms. CAND1 is reduced in the liver of NAFLD male patients and high fat diet (HFD)-fed male mice. CAND1 alleviates palmitate (PA) induced lipid accumulation in vitro. Hepatocyte-specific knockout of CAND1 exacerbates HFD-induced liver injury in HFD-fed male mice, while hepatocyte-specific knockin of CAND1 ameliorates these pathological changes. Mechanistically, deficiency of CAND1 enhances the assembly of Cullin1, F-box only protein 42 (FBXO42) and acetyl-CoA acyltransferase 2 (ACAA2) complexes, and thus promotes the ubiquitinated degradation of ACAA2. ACAA2 overexpression abolishes the exacerbated effects of CAND1 deficiency on NAFLD. Additionally, androgen receptor binds to the −187 to −2000 promoter region of CAND1. Collectively, CAND1 mitigates NAFLD by inhibiting Cullin1/FBXO42 mediated ACAA2 degradation.

Abstract Cardiomyocyte maturation is the final stage of heart development, and abnormal cardiomyocyte maturation will lead to serious heart diseases. CXXC zinc finger protein 1 (Cfp1), a key epigenetic factor in multi‐lineage cell development, remains underexplored in its influence on cardiomyocyte maturation. This study investigates the role and mechanisms of Cfp1 in this context. Cardiomyocyte‐specific Cfp1 knockout (Cfp1‐cKO) mice died within 4 weeks of birth. Cardiomyocytes derived from Cfp1‐cKO mice showed an inhibited maturation phenotype, characterized by structural, metabolic, contractile, and cell cycle abnormalities. In contrast, cardiomyocyte‐specific Cfp1 transgenic (Cfp1‐TG) mice and human induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC‐CMs) overexpressing Cfp1 displayed a more mature phenotype. Mechanistically, deficiency of Cfp1 led to a reduction in trimethylation on lysine 4 of histone H3 (H3K4me3) modification, accompanied by the formation of ectopic H3K4me3. Furthermore, Cfp1 deletion decreased the level of H3K4me3 modification in adult genes and increased the level of H3K4me3 modification in fetal genes. Collectively, Cfp1 modulates the expression of genes crucial to cardiomyocyte maturation by regulating histone H3K4me3 modification, thereby intricately influencing the maturation process. This study implicates Cfp1 as an important molecule regulating cardiomyocyte maturation, with its dysfunction strongly linked to cardiac disease.

Abstract Microglia, as macrophages in the brain, are responsible for immune responses and synaptic remodeling. Although the function of microglia is regulated by circadian rhythms, it is still unclear whether microglia are involved in the generation and light entrainment of circadian rhythms of behavior. Here, we report that microglial depletion does not alter behavioral circadian rhythms. We depleted ~ 95% of microglia in the mouse brain by PLX3397, a CSF1R inhibitor, and analyzed the effect on the spontaneous behaviors of mice. We found that neither the free-running period under constant darkness nor light entrainment under jet-lag circumstances were influenced by the ablation of microglia. Our results demonstrate that the circadian rhythms of locomotor activity, an important output of the circadian clock in the brain, are likely a phenomenon not produced by microglia.

Antibiotic resistance is a global public health threat, and urgent actions should be undertaken for developing alternative antimicrobial strategies and approaches. Notably, bismuth drugs exhibit potent antimicrobial effects on various pathogens and promising efficacy in tackling SARS-CoV-2 and related infections. As such, bismuth-based materials could precisely combat pathogenic bacteria and effectively treat the resultant infections and inflammatory diseases through a controlled release of Bi ions for targeted drug delivery. Currently, it is a great challenge to rapidly and massively manufacture bismuth-based particles, and yet there are no reports on effectively constructing such porous antimicrobial-loaded particles. Herein, we have developed two rapid approaches (i.e., ultrasound-assisted and agitation-free methods) to synthesizing bismuth-based materials with ellipsoid- (Ellipsoids) and rod-like (Rods) morphologies respectively, and fully characterized physicochemical properties. Rods with a porous structure were confirmed as bismuth metal-organic frameworks (Bi-MOF) and aligned with the crystalline structure of CAU-17. Importantly, the formation of Rods was a ‘two-step’ crystallization process of growing almond-flake-like units followed by stacking into the rod-like structure. The size of Bi-MOF was precisely controlled from micro-to nano-scales by varying concentrations of metal ions and their ratio to the ligand. Moreover, both Ellipsoids and Rods showed excellent biocompatibility with human gingival fibroblasts and potent antimicrobial effects on the Gram-negative oral pathogens including Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum. Both Ellipsoids and Rods at 50 ​μg/mL could disrupt the bacterial membranes, and particularly eliminate P. gingivalis biofilms. This study demonstrates highly efficient and facile approaches to synthesizing bismuth-based particles. Our work could enrich the administration modalities of metallic drugs for promising antibiotic-free healthcare.

Memory is a fundamental brain function that can be affected by a variety of external factors including environmental pollutants. One of these pollutants is methyl vinyl ketone (MVK), a hazardous substance found in cigarettes, industrial wastes, and car exhaust. Humans can be exposed to MVK under many circumstances; however, it is unclear whether MVK affects higher-order brain functions such as memory. Here, we examined the memory performances of mice receiving systemic MVK administration. We found that 1 mg/kg of MVK impaired spatial memory. We also showed that 1 mg/kg MVK activated glial cells and altered glial functions in several subregions of the hippocampus, a brain region involved in learning and memory. These results suggest that MVK induces memory deficits and activates glial cells in hippocampal subregions.

Abstract Background miR-198 is involved in the formation, migration, invasion, and metastasis of various malignant cancers. However, the function and mechanism of action of miR-198 in the tumorigenesis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remain elusive. Here, we aimed to explore the role of miR198 in RCC. Methods Immunohistochemistry was performed to estimate the level of survivin in RCC sections. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to determine the expression level of miR-198 in fresh RCC tissues. Furthermore, the target relationship between miR-198 and BIRC5 was predicted using the TargetScanHuman 7.2 database and verified via dual-luciferase reporter assay and western blotting. The effects of miR-198 on the viability, apoptosis, invasion, and migration of A498 and ACHN cells were studied using Cell Counting Kit-8, flow cytometry, transwell migration assay, and wound healing assay, respectively. Additionally, a xenograft nude mouse model was established to evaluate the effect of miR-198 on RCC tumorigenesis. Results The expression levels of BIRC5 and miR-198 were respectively higher and lower in RCC tissues than those in normal adjacent tissues. Furthermore, miR-198 could inhibit luciferase activity and reduce the protein level of survivin without affecting the BIRC5 mRNA levels. miR-198 inhibited cell viability, migration, and invasion and promoted cell apoptosis; co-transfection with BIRC5 could rescue these effects. Moreover, miR-198 could repress tumor growth in the xenograft nude mouse model of RCC. Conclusions Our study demonstrates that miR-198 suppresses RCC progression by targeting BIRC5.

It remains a challenge to achieve a balance between performance and stability, as well as addressing the environmental impact of perovskite solar cells. Here, the authors propose a multimodal host-guest complexation strategy enabling these shortcomings to be addressed simultaneously.

The design of oxide-metal interface for heterogeneous catalysis has been hampered by the limited fundamental understanding. Here, the authors demonstrate that the activities of cuprous oxide nanostructures for CO oxidation can be tuned via the oxide-metal (Cu2O/M, M = Pt, Ag, Au) interaction.

Tunnel section is the throat of transportation and attracts lots of attentions. This paper proposed a method to evaluate the driver's visual search stability based on the Markov Chain properties of eye movements. Firstly, visual and physiological data about 16 participants driving through 13 urban tunnels were collected. Then, the view area was divided into six AOIs (Area of Interest) by fast clustering of the drivers' fixation points. The one-step fixation transition probability and the stable distribution of different lane changing behavior were obtained based on the division of the view area. The probability of transition from the forward windscreen to the left rearview mirror and other 6 visual parameters were selected as indexes by correlation tests. And the first four principal components which covered 96.1% of all information were extracted. Then an evaluation method for visual search stability was implemented by principal component analysis. In order to validate the method, average lane change times, average speed and SDNN (Standard Deviation of NN Intervals) of the drivers' heart rate were clustered into two categories. According to the consistency between the evaluation results and the clustering results, the evaluation method proposed in this paper has been proven to be reliable. Finally, the score threshold for judging the driver's stability was obtained as $E=0.313$ . The method could be applied to adjustment of tunnel facilities, assistance in driving training and development of auto driving system by assessing whether a driver can take over the control of the vehicle or not.

Abstract The quantum defects in nanodiamonds, such as nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers, are emerging as a promising candidate for nanoscale sensing and imaging, and the controlled placement with respect to target locations is vital to their practical applications. Unfortunately, this prerequisite continues to suffer from coarse positioning accuracy, low throughput, and process complexity. Here, it is reported on direct, on‐demand electrohydrodynamic printing of nanodiamonds containing NV centers with high precision control over quantity and position. After thorough characterizations of the printing conditions, it is shown that the number of printed nanodiamonds can be controlled at will, attaining the single‐particle level precision. This printing approach, therefore, enables positioning NV center arrays with a controlled number directly on the universal substrate without any lithographic process. The approach is expected to pave the way toward new horizons not only for experimental quantum physics but also for the practical implementation of such quantum systems.

Rationale: Oxidative stress plays a critical role in the development of cardiac remodeling and heart failure. Lutein, the predominant nonvitamin A carotenoid, has been shown to have profound effects on oxidative stress. However, the effect of lutein on angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced cardiac remodeling and heart failure remains unknown. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether lutein is involved in cardiac remodeling and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Methods and results: In vitro experiments with isolated neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) and cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) revealed that lutein significantly attenuated Ang II-induced collagen expression in CFs, and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. The Ang II-induced increases in superoxide generation, inflammation and apoptosis in cultured CFs were strikingly prevented by lutein. In vivo, fibrosis, hypertrophic cardiomyocyte and superoxide generation were analyzed, and lutein was demonstrated to confer resistance to Ang II-induced cardiac remodeling in mice. Mechanistically, RNA sequencing revealed that interleukin-11 (IL-11) expression was significantly upregulated in mouse hearts in response to Ang II infusion and was significantly suppressed in the hearts of lutein-treated mice. Furthermore, IL-11 overexpression blocked the effects of lutein on fibrosis and oxidative stress in CFs and impaired the protective effect of lutein on cardiac remodeling. Notably, we discovered that lutein could reduce Ang II-induced IL-11 expression, at least partly through the regulation of activator protein (AP)-1 expression and activity. Conclusions: Lutein has potential as a treatment for cardiac remodeling and heart failure via the suppression of IL-11 expression.

AbstractPresently, the extraction of hand‐crafted features is still the dominant method in radar emitter recognition. To solve the complicated problems of selection and updation of empirical features, we present a novel automatic feature extraction structure based on deep learning. In particular, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is adopted to extract high‐level abstract representations from the time‐frequency images of emitter signals. Thus, the redundant process of designing discriminative features can be avoided. Furthermore, to address the performance degradation of a single platform, we propose the construction of an ensemble learning‐based architecture for multi‐platform fusion recognition. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithms are feasible and effective, and they outperform other typical feature extraction and fusion recognition methods in terms of accuracy. Moreover, the proposed structure could be extended to other prevalent ensemble learning alternatives.

Due to global warming, high-temperature stress has become a major threat to plant growth and development, which causes a severe challenge to food security worldwide. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the plant bioactive molecules, which could be a promising approach to strengthening plant thermotolerance. Rosmarinic acid (RA) serves as a plant-derived phenolic compound and has beneficial and health-promoting effects for human beings. However, the involvement of RA in plant stress response and the underlying molecular mechanism was largely unknown. In this study, we found that exogenous RA application conferred improved thermotolerance in tomatoes. The transcript abundance and the enzyme activity of enzymatic antioxidants, such as ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR), and dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), were further promoted by RA treatment in tomato plants subjected to high-temperature stress. Moreover, RA activated the antioxidant system and modulated the cellular redox homeostasis also associated with the redox status of nonenzymatic glutathione and ascorbic acid. The results of RNA-seq data showed that transcriptional regulation was involved in RA-mediated thermotolerance. Consistently, the gene expression of several high temperature-responsive transcription factors like HsfA2, and WRKY family genes were substantially induced by RA treatment, which potentially contributed to the induction of heat shock proteins (HSPs). Overall, these findings not only gave a direct link between RA and plant thermotolerance but also provided an attractive approach to protecting crop plants from high-temperature damage in a global warming future.

Fruits are excellent sources of essential vitamins and health-boosting minerals. Recently, regulation of fruit ripening by both internal and external cues for the improvement of fruit quality and shelf life has received considerable attention. Rosmarinic acid (RA) is a kind of natural plant-derived polyphenol, widely used in the drug therapy and food industry due to its distinct physiological functions. However, the role of RA in plant growth and development, especially at the postharvest period of fruits, remains largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated that postharvest RA treatment delayed the ripening in tomato fruits. Exogenous application of RA decreased ripening-associated ethylene production and inhibited the fruit color change from green to red based on the decline in lycopene accumulation. We also found that the degradation of sucrose and malic acid during ripening was significantly suppressed in RA-treated tomato fruits. The results of metabolite profiling showed that RA application promoted the accumulation of multiple amino acids in tomato fruits, such as aspartic acid, serine, tyrosine, and proline. Meanwhile, RA application also strengthened the antioxidant system by increasing both the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the contents of reduced forms of antioxidants. These findings not only unveiled a novel function of RA in fruit ripening, but also indicated an attractive strategy to manage and improve shelf life, flavor, and sensory evolution of tomato fruits.

Downward continuation is an effective technique that can be used to transform the magnetic data measured on one surface to the data that would be measured on another arbitrary lower surface. However, it suffers from amplitude attenuation and is susceptible to noise, especially when the continuation distance is large. To solve these problems, we present a stable and high-precision downward continuation method combining the ideas of equivalent source technique, Tikhonov regularization, radial logarithmic power spectrum analysis, and constrained strategy. To implement this method, the observed data is used to construct the equivalent source in the study area, and the small amount of measured magnetic data at the lower surface (relative to the original observation surface) is employed to constrain the calculation procedure simultaneously. Then the magnetic data at the target surface can be obtained by using a forward calculation procedure instead of the risky downward continuation procedure. The proposed method is tested on both synthetic model data and real magnetic data collected in the South China sea. Various obtained results demonstrate that the method reported in this study has higher accuracy and better noise resistance than the traditional downward continuation methods.

An urgent demand for recycling spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is expected in the forthcoming years due to the rapid growth of electrical vehicles (EV). To address these issues, various technologies such as the pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical method, as well as the newly developed in-situ roasting reduction (in-situ RR) method were proposed in recent studies. This article firstly provides a brief review on these emerging approaches. Based on the overview, a life cycle impact of these methods for recovering major component from one functional unit (FU) of 1 t spent EV LIBs was estimated. Our results showed that in-situ RR exhibited the lowest energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 4833 MJ FU−1 and 1525 kg CO2-eq FU−1, respectively, which only accounts for ~23% and ~64% of those for the hydrometallurgical method with citric acid leaching. The H2O2 production in the regeneration phase mainly contributed the overall impact for in-situ RR. The transportation distance for spent EV LIBs created a great hurdle to the reduction of the life cycle impact if the feedstock was transported by a 3.5–7.5 t lorry. We therefore suggest further optimization of the spatial distribution of the recycling facilities and reduction in the utilization of chemicals.

Background/Aims: Pro-angiogenic factors VEGF and IL-8 play a major role in modulating the migratory potential of endothelial cells. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of autocrine VEGF and IL-8 in the form of self-conditioned medium (CM) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Methods: Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) examined the automatic secretion of VEGF and IL-8 protein by HUVECs. Western blot, small interfering RNA (siRNA), pulldown and Transwell assays were used to explore the role and the mechanism of autocrine VEGF and IL-8 in migration of HUVECs. Results: Neutralizing VEGF and IL-8 in CM significantly abrogated CM-induced migration of HUVECs. Autocrine VEGF and IL-8 increased Src phosphorylation, Rac1 activity and PAK1 phosphorylation in a time dependent manner. Additionally, blocking Rac1 activity with Rac1 siRNA largely abolished autocrine VEGF and IL-8-induced cell migration. Vav2 siRNA suppressed autocrine VEGF and IL-8-induced Rac1 activation and cell migration. Furthermore, blocking Src signaling with PP2, a specific inhibitor for Src, markedly prevented autocrine VEGF and IL-8-induced Vav2 and Rac1 activation as well as consequently cell migration. PAK1 siRNA also significantly abolished autocrine VEGF and IL-8-induced cell migration. Conclusions: We demonstrated for the first time that autocrine VEGF and IL-8 promoted endothelial cell migration via the Src/Vav2/Rac1/PAK1 signaling pathway. This finding reveals the molecular mechanism in the increase of endothelial cell migration induced by autocrine growth factors and cytokines, which is expected to provide a novel therapeutic target in vascular diseases.

Smaller nanostructures often have higher activities, but at the expense of losing chemical stability. Here, the authors find that reducing the size of FeO nanostructures to below 3 nm enhances their resistance to oxidation, and attribute this unexpected observation to a size-dependent, structural dynamics effect.

Abstract Solution‐processed 2D organic semiconductors (OSCs) have drawn considerable attention because of their novel applications from flexible optoelectronics to biosensors. However, obtaining well‐oriented sheets of 2D organic materials with low defect density still poses a challenge. Here, a highly crystallized 2,9‐didecyldinaphtho[2,3‐b:2′,3′‐f]thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene (C10‐DNTT) monolayer crystal with large‐area uniformity is obtained by an ultraslow shearing (USS) method and its growth pattern shows a kinetic Wulff's construction supported by theoretical calculations of surface energies. The resulting seamless and highly crystalline monolayers are then used as templates for thermally depositing another C10‐DNTT ultrathin top‐up film. The organic thin films deposited by this hybrid approach show an interesting coherence structure with a copied molecular orientation of the templating crystal. The organic field‐effect transistors developed by these hybrid C10‐DNTT films exhibit improved carrier mobility of 14.7 cm2 V−1 s−1 as compared with 7.3 cm2 V−1 s−1 achieved by pure thermal evaporation (100% improvement) and 2.8 cm2 V−1 s−1 achieved by solution sheared monolayer C10‐DNTT. This work establishes a simple yet effective approach for fabricating high‐performance and low‐cost electronics on a large scale.

With the electromagnetic environment becoming more and more complex and the analysis demand of the radar emitter intropulse signal presenting more and more urgent, a modified method of the radar emitter intrapulse signal blind sorting under wavelet denoising is proposed. This study aims to improve the weak adaptability to the noise of the fast independent component analysis (FastICA) algorithm and its blind source separating performance. In this method, a pre-processing of noise based on the modified wavelet denoising is added. Then the FastICA algorithm is used to sort the unknown radar emitter intrapulse signal for the next intrapulse signal analysis. Simulations and analysis indicate that the modified method improves the signal to noise ratio of the received intermediate signals and the blind sorting performance.

Soil water retention characteristics and hydraulic conductivity from saturation to oven dryness are needed for simulating soil water movement and solute transport, especially in arid and semiarid regions. The aim of this study was to derive a new soil hydraulic model and compare this model with the classic van Genuchten–Mualem (VGM) models (M1). A total of 12 soils with varying basic properties were selected from the Unsaturated Soil Hydraulic Database (UNSODA) for the evaluation of the new model. Five pairs of soil hydraulic models were considered, including M1 and the new model with different parameters fitted (M2–M5). Correlation analysis was conducted to analyze the relationships between the new model parameters and basic soil properties. In addition, the Morris method was applied to quantify the parameter sensitivity of the new model. Results showed that M2 to M5 gave slightly better performance than M1 in predicting soil water retention characteristics, with a decrease of ∼15% in the root mean squared error (RMSE). However, they produced substantially better performance than M1 in estimating soil hydraulic conductivities, with a decrease of ∼40% in the RMSE. The new model with all of the model parameters being fitted (M2) was more efficient than those with one or two model parameters not fitted. However, an over-parameterization problem was detected with M2. Physically unrealistic parameters (e.g., the saturated soil water content and effective grain diameter) exist in M2. These parameters were found to have important influences on the results of the soil hydraulic properties prediction based on the Morris-based sensitivity analysis. Overall, the new model with two parameters not fitted (M5) can best describe the soil hydraulic properties from saturation to oven dryness and had the potential to simulate water and solute transport in the vadose zone.

To cope with the complex electromagnetic environment and varied signal styles, a novel method based on the energy cumulant of short time Fourier transform and reinforced deep belief network is proposed to gain a higher correct recognition rate for radar emitter intra-pulse signals at a low signal-to-noise ratio. The energy cumulant of short time Fourier transform is attained by calculating the accumulations of each frequency sample value with the different time samples. Before this procedure, the time frequency distribution via short time Fourier transform is processed by base noise reduction. The reinforced deep belief network is proposed to employ the input feature vectors for training to achieve the radar emitter recognition and classification. Simulation results manifest that the proposed method is feasible and robust in radar emitter recognition even at a low SNR.

Single-crystal silicon carbide (SiC)-based pressure sensors can be used in harsh environments, as they exhibit stable mechanical and electrical properties at elevated temperatures. A fiber-optic pressure sensor with an all-SiC sensor head was fabricated and is herein proposed. SiC sensor diaphragms were fabricated via an ultrasonic vibration mill-grinding (UVMG) method, which resulted in a small grinding force and low surface roughness. The sensor head was formed by hermetically bonding two layers of SiC using a nickel diffusion bonding method. The pressure sensor illustrated a good linearity in the range of 0.1–0.9 MPa, with a resolution of 0.27% F.S. (full scale) at room temperature.

The advent of drones has revolutionized various aspects of our lives, and in the realm of biological systems, molecular drones hold immense promise as "magic bullets" for major diseases. Herein, we introduce a unique class of fluorinated macromolecular amphiphiles, designed in the shape of jellyfish, serving as exemplary molecular drones for fluorine-19 MRI (19F MRI) and fluorescence imaging (FLI)-guided drug delivery, status reporting, and targeted cancer therapy. Functioning akin to their mechanical counterparts, these biocompatible molecular drones autonomously assemble with hydrophobic drugs to form uniform nanoparticles, facilitating efficient drug delivery into cells. The status of drug delivery can be tracked through aggregation-induced emission (AIE) of FLI and 19F MRI. Furthermore, when loaded with a heptamethine cyanine fluorescent dye IR-780, these molecular drones enable near-infrared (NIR) FL detection of tumors and precise delivery of the photosensitizer. Similarly, when loaded with doxorubicin (DOX), they enable targeted chemotherapy with fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) FL for real-time status updates, resulting in enhanced therapeutic efficacy. Compared to conventional drug delivery systems, molecular drones stand out for their simplicity, precise structure, versatility, and ability to provide instantaneous status updates. This study presents prototype molecular drones capable of executing fundamental drone functions, laying the groundwork for the development of more sophisticated molecular machines with significant biomedical implications. Oxidative stress is one of the main causes of testicular spermatogenesis disorders. Resveratrol (RES) can inhibit oxidative stress levels, reduce germ cell damage, and promote spermatogenesis. To investigate the molecular mechanism by which RES promotes spermatogenesis, the effects of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the pathological damage of mouse testis tissue were assessed. The expression of key genes associated with pyroptosis, apoptosis, and autophagy, and the effects of RES on this process were determined. Experimental mice were divided into three groups with intraperitoneally injection of H2O2 (3 mmol/kg/d), RES (100 mg/kg/d) + H2O2 (3 mmol/kg/d), and normal saline, respectively. The testicular tissues were collected, and the pathological changes were observed by hematoxylin and eosin staining. The ultrastructure was observed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The transcriptional levels of pyroptosis, apoptosis, and autophagy-related genes were measured and analyzed by fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The results showed that, in the H2O2 group, the basal membrane of spermatogenic tubules was damaged, atrophic, and thin. Interstitial cells were fragmented, and the gap of spermatogenic tubules increased. Compared with the H2O2 group, the pathological damage of testicular tissue structure in the H2O2 + RES group was significantly ameliorated. TEM results showed no evident damage to the cell structure in the control group, while apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis were observed in the testicular tissue of H2O2 and H2O2 + RES groups, where cell damage was less, but apoptotic bodies, autophagosomes, and pyroptosomes were observed. The transcription levels of key pyroptosis genes increased in the H2O2 group but decreased significantly after RES treatment. The results indicated that H2O2 could induce pyroptosis, while RES inhibited pyroptosis and led to the release of inflammatory factors by regulating the expression of genes in signaling pathways. After H2O2 injection, the transcript levels of key apoptosis genes in testicular tissue were lower than those in the control group, while RES promoted the occurrence of H2O2-induced apoptosis, to achieve the purpose of protecting itself from oxidative damage. H2O2 could promote autophagy in mouse testicular tissue. RES enhanced the level of H2O2-induced autophagy, removed the damaged cells in the testicular tissue, and protected the development of the body. This study provided the experimental basis for the study of RES in oxidative damage, pyroptosis, apoptosis, and autophagy, and theoretical guidance and new ideas for drug development and treatment of male reproductive diseases in clinical practice.
