Xiaoqu starter serves as the saccharifying and fermenting agent in the production of Cantonese soybean-flavor (Chi-flavor) Baijiu, and the complex microbial communities determine the flavor and quality of the product. Round-Koji-mechanical starter (produced by using an automated starter-making disk machine) is advantageous as it decreases operator influence, labor costs, and fermentation time, but the product quality is lower compared to traditional starter. Thus, two types of starters (traditional and Round-Koji-mechanical starter) from a Cantonese Baijiu factory were compared in a metagenomic analysis to investigate the differences in microbial community composition and core microbes. The results showed that several core microbes related to carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism and lipid metabolism, were differentially enriched in the traditional starter. Mucor lusitanicus and Rhizopus delemar were significantly positively correlated with the three key metabolic pathways. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Cyberlindnera fabianii, Kluyveromyces marxianus, Lactobacillus fermentum, Mucor ambiguous, Rhizopus microspores, Rhizopus azygosporus, Mucor circinelloides, and Ascoidea rubescens were significantly positively correlated with two of the three key metabolic pathways. The results of this study provide a basis for understanding the differential core microbes in traditional and Round-Koji-mechanical starters of Chi-flavor Baijiu, and they also provide guidance for improving Round-Koji-mechanical starter.

Abstract In recent years, anisotropic 2D materials (black phosphorus, ReS2, WTe2, etc.) have garnered significant attention due to their orientation‐dependent physical and chemical properties, along with their potential applications in micro‐nano device development, such as crystal‐based diodes, polarized light photodetectors, and directional heat transfer. As a practical, quick, and nondestructive characterization tool, Raman spectroscopy, with its unique and unmatched advantages in studying anisotropic materials, plays a crucial role. It enables lattice orientation identification, investigation of structural phase transitions, and examination of anisotropic lattice vibrations, among other aspects. Here, a comprehensive review of recent developments in Raman spectroscopy research on anisotropic materials is provided. To begin, this study introduces the classification of anisotropic materials before delving into the polarized Raman spectroscopy principle. Various research directions of Raman spectroscopy in anisotropic materials are explored, including lattice orientation identification, temperature dependence, interlayer coupling, electron–phonon interaction, thickness dependence, and high‐pressure phase transition. Finally, potential future directions in the field of Raman spectroscopy for anisotropic materials are discussed, and the potential challenges that may arise are addressed.

Two-dimensional (2D) transitional metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have garnered remarkable attention in electronics, optoelectronics, and hydrogen precipitation catalysis due to their exceptional physicochemical properties. Their utilisation in optoelectronic devices is especially notable for overcoming graphene’s zero-band gap limitation. Moreover, TMDs offer advantages such as direct band gap transitions, high carrier mobility, and efficient switching ratios. Achieving precise adjustments to the electronic properties and band gap of 2D semiconductor materials is crucial for enhancing their capabilities. Researchers have explored the creation of 2D alloy phases through heteroatom doping, a strategy employed to fine-tune the band structure of these materials. Current research on 2D alloy materials encompasses diverse aspects like synthesis methods, catalytic reactions, energy band modulation, high-voltage phase transitions, and potential applications in electronics and optoelectronics. This paper comprehensively analyses 2D TMD alloy materials, covering their growth, preparation, optoelectronic properties, and various applications including hydrogen evolution reaction catalysis, field-effect transistors, lithium-sulphur battery catalysts, and lasers. The growth process and characterisation techniques are introduced, followed by a summary of the optoelectronic properties of these materials.

Abstract Ubiquitination is a post-translational modification (PTM), which is critical to maintain cell homeostasis. Ubiquitin-specific protease 24 (USP24) plays roles in various diseases, the mechanisms by which USP24 regulates hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain poorly understood. In this study, USP24 is found to be significantly downregulated in HCC. Knocking down USP24 promotes HCC proliferation and migration, whereas USP24 overexpression inhibits HCC in vitro and in vivo. The endogenous interaction between USP24 and Beclin1 is confirmed. Mechanically, USP24 delays Beclin1 degradation by reducing its K48-linked ubiquitination, the effects of overexpressing USP24 on HCC proliferation can be partially reversed by silencing Beclin1. We find that increased autophagy is accompanied by ferroptosis in USP24 overexpressed HCC cells and USP24 increases the susceptibility of HCC to sorafenib. Collectively, this study highlights the critical role of USP24 in regulating autophagy-dependent ferroptosis by decreasing Beclin1 ubiquitination, suggesting that targeting USP24 may be a strategy for treating HCC.

Liver metabolites are involved in the progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), indicating a connection between the liver and joints. However, the impact and mechanism of Hepatitis B virus (HBV), a hepatotropic virus, on RA are still unclear. We investigated the correlation between HBV and RA using Mendelian randomization analysis. Single-cell transcriptome analysis was conducted to investigate changes in cell subtypes in synovial tissue of HBV-RA patients. Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) were used to create a cell model, and the transcriptome was examined to identify the key downstream molecules of FMT regulated by HBx. CIA model was constructed using HBV transgenic, HBx transgenic, and TRADF1 knockout mice to investigate the impact and mechanism of HBV on CIA. The results of our study revealed a significant positive correlation between HBV and RA. The functional studies identified a crucial role of fibroblast-myofibroblast transition (FMT) in the progression of RA. The results suggest that HBV-encoded HBx may promote FMT in RA by upregulating TRAFD1. Furthermore, trans-ferulic acid (TFA) was identified by screening for common metabolites in the liver, joints, and peripheral blood using the metabolome and WGCNA. Interestingly, we found that TFA ameliorated HBx-induced RA by suppressing TRAFD1 expression. Our study demonstrates that hidden liver-joint axis, an imbalance between TFA and HBx, plays a critical role in HBV-induced RA, which could be a potential strategy for preventing RA development.
