Abstract Aims Observational research has identified links between micronutrient levels and chronic liver disease. However, the lack of randomized controlled experiments has impeded the ability to establish a cause‐and‐effect connection regarding micronutrients and cirrhosis of the liver. This Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis aimed to examine the causal impact of micronutrients on liver cirrhosis. Methods We selected genetic instrumental variables related to 12 micronutrients from genome‐wide studies on individuals of European descent, covering an array of over 9,851,867 single nucleotide polymorphisms and 460,351 participants. Data from patients with cirrhosis in the FinnGen database (https://www.finngen.fi/fi) were used. A two‐sample MR approach was employed to establish genetically causal estimates. Primary analyses used random effects and inverse variance weighted (IVW) methods, with additional sensitivity analyses for validation. MR–Egger intercept analysis and Cochran's Q test assessed horizontal pleiotropy and heterogeneity. Furthermore, multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) was conducted to address potential confounding variables. Results IVW and weighted median methods showed that most micronutrients included were not significantly associated with a genetic susceptibility to liver cirrhosis. Abstract Background Breast cancer (BC) poses significant burdens on women globally. While past research suggests a potential link between bone mineral density (BMD) and BC risk, findings remain inconsistent. Our study aims to elucidate the causal relationship between BMD and BC in East Asians using bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR). Methods Genetic association data for bone mineral density T-scores (BMD-T) and Z-scores (BMD-Z) (Sample size = 92,615) and BC from two different sources (Sample size1 = 98,283; Sample size2 = 79,550) were collected from publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with BMD-T and BMD-Z as phenotype-related instrumental variables (IVs) were used, with BC as the outcome. As the primary means of causal inference, the inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach was employed. Heterogeneity analysis was conducted using Cochran’s Q test, while MR-Egger regression analysis was implemented to assess the pleiotropic effects of the IVs. Sensitivity analyses were performed using methods such as MR-Egger, weighted median, and weighted mode to analyze the robustness and reliability of the results. The MR-PRESSO method and the RadialMR were used to detect and remove outliers. The PhenoScanner V2 website was utilized to exclude confounding factors shared between BMD and BC. Besides, the Bonferroni correction was also used to adjust the significance threshold. Then, the meta-analysis method was applied to combine the MR analysis results from the two BC sources. Finally, a reverse MR analysis was conducted. Results The results of the IVW method were consolidated through meta-analysis, revealing a positive correlation between genetically predicted BMD-T ( $$\:OR\:=\:1.22$$ , $$\:95\%\:CI:\:1.13-1.33$$ , $$\:P

Abstract Natural evolution has resulted in reduced cold tolerance in cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). Herein, we perform a combined analysis of ATAC-Seq and RNA-Seq in cold-sensitive cultivated tomato and cold-tolerant wild tomato (S. habrochaites). We identify that WRKY34 has the most significant association with differential chromatin accessibility and expression patterns under cold stress. We find that a 60 bp InDel in the WRKY34 promoter causes differences in its transcription and cold tolerance among 376 tomato accessions. This 60 bp fragment contains a GATA cis-regulatory element that binds to SWIBs and GATA29, which synergistically suppress WRKY34 expression under cold stress. Moreover, WRKY34 interferes with the CBF cold response pathway through regulating transcription and protein levels. Our findings emphasize the importance of polymorphisms in cis-regulatory regions and their effects on chromatin structure and gene expression during crop evolution.

Abstract Background The marbling trait of cattle muscles, being a key indicator, played an important role in evaluating beef quality. Two breeds of cattle, namely a high-marbling (Angus) and a low-marbling (Nanyang) one, with their cattle muscles selected as our samples for transcriptome sequencing, were aimed to identify differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and their targets associated with the marbling trait. Results Transcriptome sequencing identified 487 and 283 differentially expressed mRNAs and lncRNAs respectively between the high-marbling (Angus) and low-marbling (Nanyang) cattle muscles. Twenty-seven pairs of differentially expressed lncRNAs-mRNAs, including eighteen lncRNAs and eleven target genes, were found to be involved in fat deposition and lipid metabolism. We established a positive correlation between fourteen up-regulated (NONBTAT000849.2, MSTRG.9591.1, NONBTAT031089.1, MSTRG.3720.1, NONBTAT029718.1, NONBTAT004228.2, NONBTAT007494.2, NONBTAT011094.2, NONBTAT015080.2, NONBTAT030943.1, NONBTAT021005.2, NONBTAT021004.2, NONBTAT025985.2, and NONBTAT023845.2) and four down-regulated (NONBTAT000850.2, MSTRG.22188.3, MSTRG.22188.4, and MSTRG.22188.5) lncRNAs and eleven genes related to adiponectin family protein (ADIPOQ), cytochrome P450 family (CYP4V2), 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydratase family (HACD4), kinesin family (KIF5C), lipin family (LPIN2), perilipin family (PLIN1), prostaglandin family (PTGIS), solute carrier family (SLC16A7, SLC2213, and SLCO4C1), and containing a transmembrane domain protein family (VSTM1). Conclusions These candidate genes and lncRNAs can be regarded as being responsible for regulating the marbling trait of cattle. lncRNAs along with the variations in intramuscular fat marbling established a foundation for elucidating the genetic basis of high marbling in cattle.

Abstract Background There are significant geographic inequities in COVID-19 case fatality rates (CFRs), and comprehensive understanding its country-level determinants in a global perspective is necessary. This study aims to quantify the country-specific risk of COVID-19 CFR and propose tailored response strategies, including vaccination strategies, in 156 countries. Methods Cross-temporal and cross-country variations in COVID-19 CFR was identified using extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) including 35 factors from seven dimensions in 156 countries from 28 January, 2020 to 31 January, 2022. SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) was used to further clarify the clustering of countries by the key factors driving CFR and the effect of concurrent risk factors for each country. Increases in vaccination rates was simulated to illustrate the reduction of CFR in different classes of countries. Findings Overall COVID-19 CFRs varied across countries from 28 Jan 2020 to 31 Jan 31 2022, ranging from 68 to 6373 per 100,000 population. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the determinants of CFRs first changed from health conditions to universal health coverage, and then to a multifactorial mixed effect dominated by vaccination. In the Omicron period, countries were divided into five classes according to risk determinants. Low vaccination-driven class (70 countries) mainly distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, and include the majority of low-income countries (95.7%) with many concurrent risk factors. Aging-driven class (26 countries) mainly distributed in high-income European countries. High disease burden-driven class (32 countries) mainly distributed in Asia and North America. Low GDP-driven class (14 countries) are scattered across continents. Simulating a 5% increase in vaccination rate resulted in CFR reductions of 31.2% and 15.0% for the low vaccination-driven class and the high disease burden-driven class, respectively, with greater CFR reductions for countries with high overall risk (SHAP value > 0.1), but only 3.1% for the ageing-driven class. Conclusions Evidence from this study suggests that geographic inequities in COVID-19 CFR is jointly determined by key and concurrent risks, and achieving a decreasing COVID-19 CFR requires more than increasing vaccination coverage, but rather targeted intervention strategies based on country-specific risks.

Abstract Background The spleen plays an important role in systemic antitumor immune response, but whether spleen imaging features have predictive effect for prognosis and immune status was unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate computed tomography (CT)‐based spleen radiomics to predict the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) underwent definitive radiotherapy (dRT) and to try to find its association with systemic immunity. Methods This retrospective study included 201 ESCC patients who received dRT. Patients were randomly divided into training (n = 142) and validation (n = 59) groups. The pre‐ and delta‐radiomic features were extracted from enhanced CT images. LASSO‐Cox regression was used to select the radiomics signatures most associated with progression‐free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Independent prognostic factors were identified by univariate and multivariate Cox analyses. The ROC curve and C‐index were used to evaluate the predictive performance. Finally, the correlation between spleen radiomics and immune‐related hematological parameters was analyzed by spearman correlation analysis. Results Independent prognostic factors involved TNM stage, treatment regimen, tumor location, pre‐ or delta‐Rad‐score. The AUC of the delta‐radiomics combined model was better than other models in the training and validation groups in predicting PFS (0.829 and 0.875, respectively) and OS (0.857 and 0.835, respectively). Furthermore, some spleen delta‐radiomic features are significantly correlated with delta‐ALC (absolute lymphocyte count) and delta‐NLR (neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio). Conclusions Spleen radiomics is expected to be a useful noninvasive tool for predicting the prognosis and evaluating systemic immune status for ESCC patients underwent dRT.

Abstract Objective To systematically analyze the accuracy of ultrasonic techniques in assessing the nature of gastric contents and their volume. Methods English-language articles that used ultrasonic techniques to assess the nature of gastric contents and their volume in patients were selected. In eligible studies, data were recalculated and analyzed for forest plots and subject summary curves of operating characteristics (SROC). Study quality was assessed using the diagnostic accuracy study quality assessment tool QUADAS-2. Publication bias was tested using funnel plots. Results Nine articles with a total of 523 study subjects were identified for this review. All studies were feasibility studies. The sensitivity of ultrasound assessment of gastric contents ranged from 53 to 100% and the specificity from 48 to 99%. The combined analysis yielded an area under the working characteristic curve for subjects of 97% (95% confidence interval (CI), 95–98%), a sensitivity of 95% (95% CI, 84–99%), and a specificity of 88% (95% CI, 72–95%). There was a high degree of heterogeneity among the studies due to inter-operator differences and small sample sizes. Conclusion Ultrasound techniques have high diagnostic accuracy in assessing the nature of gastric contents and their volume in patients. However, most of the studies were feasibility studies with small sample sizes, lacked standardization, and had high risk of bias. More studies are needed in the future to investigate the diagnostic performance of gastric ultrasound assessment techniques. Critical relevance statement Ultrasonography can be used to assess gastric contents, but standardized data integration and reporting are needed to account for the diagnostic capabilities of this technology. Key points • Ultrasound is a safe and feasible tool for assessing gastric contents. • Ultrasound has good diagnostic performance for gastric contents. • There is still a certain heterogeneity within our analysis process; more research is needed in the future to improve our results. Accurate cropland information is critical for agricultural planning and production, especially in food-stressed countries like China. Although widely used medium-to-high-resolution satellite-based cropland maps have been developed from various remotely sensed data sources over the past few decades, considerable discrepancies exist among these products both in total area and in spatial distribution of croplands, impeding further applications of these datasets. The factors influencing their inconsistency are also unknown. In this study, we evaluated the consistency and accuracy of six cropland maps widely used in China in circa 2020, including three state-of-the-art 10-m products (i.e., Google Dynamic World, ESRI Land Cover, and ESA WorldCover) and three 30-m ones (i.e., GLC_FCS30, GlobeLand 30, and CLCD). We also investigated the effects of landscape fragmentation, climate, and agricultural management. Validation using a ground-truth sample revealed that the 10-m-resolution WorldCover provided the highest accuracy (92.3%). These maps collectively overestimated Chinese cropland area by up to 56%. Up to 37% of the land showed spatial inconsistency among the maps, concentrated mainly in mountainous regions and attributed to the varying accuracy of cropland maps, cropland fragmentation and management practices such as irrigation. Our work shed light on the promotion of future cropland mapping efforts, especially in highly inconsistent regions.

AbstractPurpose This retrospective, single-center, case-control study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Computed tomography (CT)-guided microwave ablation (MWA) for pulmonary nodules located in the right middle lobe (RML), a challenging location associated with a high frequency of complications.Methods Between May 2020 and April 2022, 71 patients with 71 RML pulmonary nodules underwent 71 MWA sessions. To comparison, 142 patients with 142 pulmonary nodules in non-RML were selected using propensity score matching. The technical success, technique efficacy, complications, and associated factors were analyzed. The duration of the procedure and post-ablation hospital stay were also recorded.Results Technical success was achieved in 100% of all patients. Emergence delirium is a common postoperative complication in patients undergoing general anesthesia, especially in children. In severe cases, it can cause unnecessary self-harm, affect postoperative recovery, lead to parental dissatisfaction, and increase medical costs. With the widespread use of inhalation anesthetic drugs (such as sevoflurane and desflurane), the incidence of emergence delirium in children is gradually increasing; however, its pathogenesis in children is complex and unclear. Several studies have shown that age, pain, and anesthetic drugs are strongly associated with the occurrence of emergence delirium. Alterations in central neurophysiology are essential intermediate processes in the development of emergence delirium. Compared to adults, the pediatric nervous system is not fully developed; therefore, the pediatric electroencephalogram may vary slightly by age. Moreover, pain and anesthetic drugs can cause changes in the excitability of the central nervous system, resulting in electroencephalographic changes. In this paper, we review the pathogenesis of and prevention strategies for emergence delirium in children from the perspective of brain electrophysiology—especially for commonly used pharmacological treatments—to provide the basis for understanding the development of emergence delirium as well as its prevention and treatment, and to suggest future research direction.

Previous research on regional environmental pollution acknowledge that cross-level government cooperation plays an important role in controlling regional environmental pollution. However, the balance between local fiscal autonomy and governance costs has received little attention. To fill this research gap, this paper argues a model of local fiscal autonomy moderating the efficiency of environmental governance, which provides a basis for studying the effect of local fiscal autonomy on intergovernmental cooperative environmental governance. We collected the data set of the China Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, using Tobit regression model to evaluate the effect of local fiscal autonomy on cooperative arrangements and the moderating effect. The results show that higher local fiscal autonomy will positively affect vertical intervention actions and improve the efficiency of environmental governance. In addition, we found that more special funding for environmental projects will weaken the performance of horizontal cooperation on regional environmental governance.

BackgroundSeveral previous animal and human studies have found a strong association between asthma and spermatozoa quality, but whether these associations are causal or due to bias remains to be elucidated.MethodsWe performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the causal effect of genetically predicted asthma on the risk of abnormal spermatozoa. Asthma, childhood-onset asthma (COA), and adult-onset asthma (AOA) (sample sizes ranging from 327,670 to 408,442) were included as the exposures. Genetic information for abnormal spermatozoa was obtained from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) comprising 209,921 participants. In univariable MR (UVMR) analysis, the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method was conducted as the primary method, with the MR Egger and weighted median used as supplementary methods for causal inference. Sensitivity analyses, including the Cochran Q test, Egger intercept test, MR-PRESSO, and leave-one-out analysis, were performed to verify the robustness of the MR results. Multivariable MR (MVMR) was conducted to evaluate the direct causal effects of asthma on abnormal spermatozoa risk.ResultsUVMR detected causal associations between genetically predicted asthma and an increased risk of abnormal spermatozoa (OR: 1.270, 95% CI: 1.045–1.545, p = 0.017). Moreover, we found that AOA (OR: 1.46, 95% CI: 1.051, 2.018, p = 0.024) has positive causal effects on the risk of abnormal spermatozoa rather than COA (p = 0.558). Sensitivity analysis found little evidence of bias in the current study (p > 0.05). MVMR further confirmed that asthma directly affected the risk of abnormal spermatozoa.ConclusionOur MR study suggested that genetically predicted asthma could be associated with an increased risk of abnormal spermatozoa, and similar results were obtained in AOA. Further studies are warranted to explain the underlying mechanisms of this association and may provide new avenues for prevention and treatment.

On 18 December 2023，at Beijing time，a M6.2 earthquake struck Jishishan in Gansu Province. A thorough analysis of the earthquake structure and characteristics was conducted by combining information on regional seismic tectonics, geology, seismic source mechanism, seismic intensity, and aftershock relocation. The earthquake was a reverse fault event trending north-northwest within the Xining-Lanzhou fault block. The earthquake-controlling tectonics of the earthquake is the Lajishan reverse fault zone，which is closest to the epicentre of the earthquake. The fault zone is situated at the intersection of the northwest-trending Riyueshan dextral strike-slip fault and the east-west-trending Western Qinling North Rim left-trending strike-slip fault. It has an overall northwest-to-north-northwest striking angle and comprises two branch fault zones with opposite trends in the southern and northern rims. The earthquake’s epicentre location, aftershock distribution, and intensity distribution data suggest that the specific fault responsible for this earthquake is the east branch fault of the southern section of the reverse fault zone at the northern rim of Lajishan. This is consistent with the characteristics of the upward disc effect of reverse fault-type earthquakes. Further detailed field investigations are required to determine the deformation of the earth’s surface. The Jishishan earthquake is thought to have been caused by reverse fault activity at the intersection of the Riyueshan strike-slip fault and the northern edge of the Western Qinling fault. This was triggered by the eastward lateral slip along the original left-hand strike-slip fault along the Xining-Lanzhou fault block on the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau. This occurred under the northeast-directed extrusion tectonic stress field resulting from the ongoing land-land collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates. This earthquake suggests that the extrusion tectonic system at the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau remains the primary structure controlling strong seismic activity in China in recent years. Further attention should be paid to the risk of strong earthquakes within the fault block.

Abstract Interorganizational collaboration networks have become an important tool for disaster management. However, research on how different organizations can effectively collaborate throughout the entire disaster management process in centralized states such as China is scarce. This study begins to fill this lacuna by investigating interorganizational collaboration in different phases of disaster management and analyzing changes in the structure of the networks constructed during the preparedness and response phases of the 2020 flood disaster in Hubei Province, China. Building on the complex adaptive systems (CAS) theory, we argue that interorganizational collaboration changes dynamically according to its tasks and requirements. In the preparedness phase, interorganizational collaborations primarily follow established plans and choose horizontal self-organized collaboration mechanisms. However, when the urgent information and resource requirements increase in the response phase, many organizations choose vertical mandatory collaboration mechanisms. We found that organizations at the central and provincial levels in China were well positioned to coordinate information and resources and strengthen the interorganizational collaboration and communication that is crucial in disaster management. These findings contribute to the study of interorganizational collaboration networks in disaster management.

Abstract Background Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a common type of pulmonary hypertension and characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling and constriction. A large number of studies have shown that pulmonary vascular endothelial cells (PVECs) dysfunction plays an important role in the initiation and development stages of HPH, but the mechanism of PVECs dysfunction after hypoxia remains unclear. In this study, we explored the exact mechanism of PVECs dysfunction after hypoxia. Methods In vitro, we used primary cultured PVECs hypoxia model to mimic HPH injury. We detected the expressions of mitochondrial biogenesis markers, mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) level inside mitochondria, mitochondrial quantity and function, and the components expressions of translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane (TOM) at 24 h after hypoxia. To explore the effects of Tom70 on mitochondrial biogenesis and functions of PVECs after hypoxia, Tom70 overexpression adenovirus was constructed, and the expressions of mitochondrial biogenesis markers, TFAM level inside mitochondria, mitochondrial quantity and function, and the functions of PVECs were detected. And in vivo, we used cre-dependent overexpression adenovirus of Tom70 in the Cdh5-CreERT2 mouse model of HPH to verify the role of upregulating PVECs Tom70 in improving HPH. Results Hypoxia obviously increased the expressions of mitochondrial biogenesis markers for PGC-1α, NRF-1 and TFAM, but reduced the content of TFAM in mitochondria and the quantity and functions of mitochondria. In addition, only Tom70 expression among the TOM components was significantly decreased after hypoxia, and up-regulation of Tom70 significantly increased the content of TFAM in mitochondria of PVECs by transporting TFAM into mitochondria after hypoxia, enhanced the quantity and functions of mitochondria, improved the functions of PVECs, and ultimately alleviated HPH. Conclusion The findings of present study demonstrated that hypoxia induced the decreased expression of Tom70 in PVECs, reduced the mitochondrial biogenesis-associated TFAM protein transporting into mitochondria, inhibited mitochondrial biogenesis, caused PVECs injury, and prompted the formation of HPH. However, up-regulation of Tom70 abolished the hypoxia-induced injurious effects on PVECs and alleviated HPH.

The cellular space robot (CSR) is a new type of self-reconfigurable robot. It can adapt the variety of on-orbit service tasks with large space spans through multi-level reconfiguration mechanisms. As the CSR has a large configuration space, kinematic solving becomes a key problem affecting on-orbit operation capability, and kinematic automatic solving research must be conducted. In order to solve this problem, firstly, the cellular space robot system capable of realizing multi-level self-reconfiguration is proposed for the demand of space on-orbit service, and the kinematic equations of modules are constructed by considering a single module function using screw theory. Secondly, the kinematics of the cellular space robot are encapsulated and divided into multiple levels, and the multilevel-assembly relationship-description method for robotic systems is proposed based on graph theory. On this basis, the pathway-solving algorithm is proposed to express the robot organization reachability information. Finally, the module–organ–robot multilevel kinematics solving algorithm is proposed in combination with screw theory. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm in this paper, numerical simulation is used to compare with the proposed algorithm. The results show that compared with the traditional algorithm, the method in this paper only needs to update part of the assembly relations after organ migration, which simplifies the kinematic modeling operation and improves the efficiency of kinematic computation.

In an experiment performed on the Shenguang-III prototype laser facility, collective Thomson scattering (TS) is used to study the spatial growth of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a gas-filled hohlraum by detecting the SBS-driven ion acoustic wave. High-quality time-resolved SBS and TS spectra are obtained simultaneously in the experiment, and these are analyzed by a steady-state code based on the ray-tracing model. The analysis indicates that ion–ion collisions may play an important role in suppressing SBS growth in the Au plasma; as a result, the SBS excited in the filled gas region is dominant. In the early phase of the laser pulse, SBS originates primarily from the high-density plasma at the edges of the interaction beam channel, which is piled up by the heating of the interaction beam. Throughout the duration of the laser pulse, the presence of the TS probe beam might mitigate SBS by perturbing the density distribution around the region overlapping with the interaction beam.

Automotive bumper beam is a vital component that shields passenger and vehicle from harm and damage generated by catastrophic collapse. Previous investigations on its bending behavior have largely concentrated on multi-cell tubes with the same length, whereas stepped multi-cell structures have received less attention. In this paper, a novel stepped multi-cell configuration is proposed to improve the energy absorption characteristics of thin-walled structures under transverse loading. The finite element method is employed to analyze the crushing behaviors of the stepped multi-cell tubes. The numerical results reveal that the stepped multi-cell structures (SM2 to SM5) can reduce the initial peak force by 23.44–45.91% while increasing the energy absorption capacity, crush load efficiency, and specific energy absorption by 5.87–29.51, 38.29–139.45, and 5.87–29.51%, respectively, when compared to a conventional square tube (M1). In addition, the effects of wall thickness, section width, load angle, punch radius, and punch shape on the bending behaviors and energy absorption characteristics are examined. The results indicate that these factors have a considerable influence on the deformation features of M1 and SM2, which leads to a significant reduction in their bending energy absorption characteristics. These variables have no influence on the deformation modes of SM3, SM4, and SM5, and they present local indentation deformation with a high energy absorption efficiency. Increasing the number of layers improves the comprehensive performance of stepped multi-cell tubes, with SM5 exhibiting the best energy absorption characteristics under transverse loading.

Abstract Intestinal symbiotic microorganisms have a strong capacity to regulate the physiological functions of their host, and Drosophila serves as a useful model. Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium) is a member of the normal intestinal flora of animals. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) such as E. faecium can promote the growth and development of Drosophila, but the mechanism of regulation of Drosophila is poorly understood. In this study, we found that E. faecium used a carbon source to produce probiotic acids. E. faecium is a symbiotic bacterium for Drosophila, and adult flies passed on parental flora to offspring. E. faecium promoted the growth and development of Drosophila, especially under poor nutritional conditions. E. faecium shortened the developmental process for Drosophila and accelerated the transformation from larva to pupa. Finally, E. faecium promoted the growth and development of Drosophila through TOR and insulin signalling pathways.

Abstract Background Perioperative brain protection in older patients has been the focus of research recently; meanwhile, exploring the relationship between regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) and brain function in the perioperative period has been an emerging and challenging area—the difficulties related to the real-time monitoring of rSO2 and the choice of feasible interventions. As an advanced instrument for intraoperative rSO2 monitoring, the clinical application of near-infrared spectrum (NIRS) cerebral oxygen monitoring has gradually increased in popularity and is being recognized for its beneficial clinical outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac and noncardiac surgery. In addition, although sufficient evidence to support this hypothesis is still lacking, the effect of permissive hypercapnia (PHC) on rSO2 has expanded from basic research to clinical exploration. Therefore, monitoring intraoperative rSO2 in older patients with NIRS technology and exploring possible interventions that may change rSO2 and even improve postoperative cognitive performance is significant and clinically valuable. Methods This study is a single-center randomized controlled trial (RCT). 76 older patients are enrolled as subjects. Patients who meet the screening criteria will be randomly assigned 1:1 to the control and intervention groups. PHC-based mechanical ventilation will be regarded as an intervention. The primary outcome is the absolute change in the percent change in rSO2 from baseline to the completion of surgery in the intervention and control groups. Secondary outcomes mainly include observations of intraoperative cerebral oxygenation and metabolism, markers of brain injury, and assessments of patients' cognitive function using scale through postoperative follow-up. Discussion The findings of this RCT will reveal the effect of PHC on intraoperative rSO2 in older patients with nonacute fragile brain function (NFBF) and the approximate trends over time, and differences in postoperative cognitive function outcomes. We anticipate that the trial results will inform clinical policy decision-makers in clinical practice, enhance the management of intraoperative cerebral oxygen monitoring in older patients with comorbid NFBF, and provide guidance for clinical brain protection and improved postoperative cognitive function outcomes. In this paper, Fe−8.5Mn−1.5Al light−weight medium Mn steel is used as the research object, and the hot compression test is conducted by Gleeble−3500 thermal simulation tester. The dynamic reversion and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) processes are analyzed according to the true stress−strain curve; the θ−σ work−hardening rate curve is plotted by P−J double differential method to analyze the influence law between work−hardening and dynamic reversion and recrystallization softening effect of the material; the DRX critical strain model is established to analyze the influence law of deformation parameters on DRX; Based on the dynamic material model theory, the hot working diagram and three−dimensional power dissipation diagram are constructed, and the best hot working area is determined by combining the microstructure of the material. Finally, based on the above research content, a systematic overview of the dynamic softening effects of DRX and dynamic recovery (DRV) will be provided.

Abstract Objective Biallelic variants of RARS1, a gene that encodes the cytoplasmic tRNA synthetase for arginine (ArgRS), are associated with central nervous system (CNS) manifestations, such as hypomyelinating leukodystrophy‐9 and developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE). This study aimed to better understand the RARS1 biallelic mutations and the associated phenotypes, particularly in patients with DEE. Methods We identified two patients with RARS1 biallelic mutations and functionally validated these mutations in vitro. Furthermore, we performed a review of the literature. Results Two patients with hypomyelinating leukodystrophy were found to have RARS1 biallelic variants (Patient 1: c.1535G>A (p.Arg512Gln) and c.1382G>A (p.Arg461His); Patient 2: homozygous variants c.5A>T (p.Asp2Val)). Patient 2 had a severe clinical manifestation of DEE. A review of the literature identified 27 patients from five studies. Among the 29 patients, intellectual disability, developmental delay, and hypomyelination were the common symptoms, while 13 of them exhibited DEE and malformations of cortical development. Of the 25 variants identified, c.5A>G (p.Asp2Gly) was identified in 10 patients. ArgRS protein expression and stability were substantially reduced in the two newly identified patients. Significance Patients with RARS1 biallelic mutations frequently exhibit DEE, a severe phenotype, along with hypomyelinating leukodystrophy. Besides its effects on the white matter, this mutation also influences cortical development. Moreover, the variants c.5A>T (p.Asp2Val), c.1382G>A (p.Arg461His), and c.1535G>A (p.Arg512Gln) are pathogenic and affect the expression of ArgRS by reducing the protein stability.

Abstract Wind‐induced crop lodging can reduce agricultural production and impact food security. However, a systematic evaluation of large‐scale crop lodging and its drivers is lacking, mostly due to the limited observations available. Such knowledge gaps hinder the application of effective management practices to mitigate yield losses. Here, we quantify maize‐lodging induced by three consecutive typhoons in Northeast China in 2020 using direct crop canopy height observations from the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigations (GEDI) instrument and optical satellite imagery. We show that the canopy water‐related vegetation index provides a robust wall‐to‐wall mapping of crop lodging, supported by changes in GEDI canopy height. Our spatially contiguous lodging maps show that lodging intensity is mainly due to typhoon intensity (64.34%), with maize plantation fraction (11.94%) and phenology (7.94%) as secondary factors. The shelterbelt forest may partly alleviate the lodging risk, but its effect requires further investigation. Considering the recent expansion of maize cultivation and the poleward shift of landfalling typhoons alongside climate change, the lodging risk may increase for maize and further threaten China's food security.

IntroductionGiven the rapid geographic spread of dengue and the growing frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall events, it is imperative to understand the relationship between these phenomena in order to propose effective interventions. However, studies exploring the association between heavy rainfall and dengue infection risk have reached conflicting conclusions, potentially due to the neglect of prior water availability in mosquito breeding sites as an effect modifier.MethodsIn this study, we addressed this research gap by considering the impact of prior water availability for the first time. We measured prior water availability as the cumulative precipitation over the preceding 8 weeks and utilized a distributed lag non-linear model stratified by the level of prior water availability to examine the association between dengue infection risk and heavy rainfall in Guangzhou, a dengue transmission hotspot in southern China.ResultsOur findings suggest that the effects of heavy rainfall are likely to be modified by prior water availability. A 24–55 day lagged impact of heavy rainfall was associated with an increase in dengue risk when prior water availability was low, with the greatest incidence rate ratio (IRR) of 1.37 [95% credible interval (CI): 1.02–1.83] occurring at a lag of 27 days. In contrast, a heavy rainfall lag of 7–121 days decreased dengue risk when prior water availability was high, with the lowest IRR of 0.59 (95% CI: 0.43–0.79), occurring at a lag of 45 days.DiscussionThese findings may help to reconcile the inconsistent conclusions reached by previous studies and improve our understanding of the complex relationship between heavy rainfall and dengue infection risk.

Abstract Background With the advancement of whole‐genome sequencing (WGS) technology, massively parallel sequencing (MPS) remains the mainstream due to its accuracy, low cost, and high throughput. The development of the analytical pipeline corresponding to MPS has always been of great importance. Increasingly large population genomics studies, as a specific type of big data research, pose new challenges for analysis solutions. Results Here, we introduce ZBOLT, a comprehensive analysis system that incorporates both software and hardware advancements, making it an appropriate choice for large‐scale population genomic studies that require extensive data processing. In this study, we first evaluate ZBOLT's calling accuracy using the Genome in a Bottle (GIAB) benchmark dataset. Then we apply ZBOLT to a large‐scale population genomics study with 5,616 high sequencing depth samples totaling 1.16Pbp (base pair). As the results show, ZBOLT demonstrates exceptional efficiency and low energy consumption, processing 100Tbp per day and using 1kWh per 100Gbp sequenced sample. Conclusion This research serves as a valuable reference for analyzing sequencing data from large population cohorts and underscores the significant potential of ZBOLT in large‐scale population genomics studies.

Bone metabolic diseases have been tormented and are plaguing people worldwide due to the lack of effective and thorough medical interventions and the poor understanding of their pathogenesis. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are heterogeneous transcripts that cannot encode the proteins but can affect the expressions of other genes. Autophagy is a fundamental mechanism for keeping cell viability, recycling cellular contents through the lysosomal pathway, and maintaining the homeostasis of the intracellular environment. There is growing evidence that ncRNAs, autophagy, and crosstalk between ncRNAs and autophagy play complex roles in progression of metabolic bone disease. This review investigated the complex mechanisms by which ncRNAs, mainly micro RNAs (miRNAs), long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs), regulate autophagic pathway to assist in treating bone metabolism disorders. It aimed at identifying the autophagy role in bone metabolism disorders and understanding the role, potential, and challenges of crosstalk between ncRNAs and autophagy for bone metabolism disorders treatment.

Summary: Fibrosis disrupts tissue balance and links to severe illnesses, impairing organ function and, in some cases, even fatality. The interaction between M2 macrophages and fibroblasts is vital for tissue equilibrium. Transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) released by M2 macrophages plays a central role in fibrosis, regulating fibroblast activity and extracellular matrix metabolism. Targeting TGF-β1 is key to fibrosis treatment. In our study using three fibroblast cell lines, we reveal that the M2 macrophage transcription factor SP1 enhances binding to the TGF-β1 promoter motif, promoting TGF-β1 transcription and activating fibroblasts (This process does not involve changes in DNA methylation levels surrounding the motif sequence). The zinc fingers in SP1’s DNA-binding domain 3 are crucial for this binding. In vivo, targeting SP1 in rat ligaments significantly reduces extracellular matrix accumulation. Our findings highlight SP1 as a promising target for regulating tissue extracellular matrix and combating fibrosis.

AbstractPurpose This retrospective study assessed the incidence rate, risk factors, and clinical course of early enlarging cavitation after percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) of primary lung cancer (PLC).Methods This study included 557 lesions of 514 patients with PLC who underwent CT-guided percutaneous MWA between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2021. Of these patients, 29 developed early enlarging cavitation and were enrolled in the cavity group, and 173 were randomly enrolled in the control group. Early enlarging cavitation of the lung was defined as the development of a cavity ≥30 mm within 7 days after MWA.Results Overall, 31 (5.57%, 31/557 tumors) early enlarging cavitations occurred at an average of 5.83 ± 1.55 d after MWA. The risk factors were lesion contact with a large vessel (diameter ≥3 mm), lesion contact with the bronchus (diameter ≥2 mm), and a large ablated parenchymal volume. The cavity group had a higher incidence rate of delayed hydropneumothorax (12.9%) and bronchopleural fistula (9.68%) than the control group, resulting in a longer hospitalization (9.09 ± 5.26 days). Until Dec 31, 2022, 27 cavities disappeared after a mean of 217.88 ± 78.57 d (range, 111–510 d), two persisted, and two were lost to follow-up.Conclusions Early enlarging cavitation occurred in 5.57% PLC cases that underwent MWA, causing serve complications and longer hospitalization. The risk factors were ablated lesion contact with large vessels and bronchi, as well as a larger ablated parenchymal volume.

AbstractBackground This retrospective study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of synchronous biopsy and microwave ablation (MWA) for highly suspected malignant lung ground-glass opacities (GGOs) adjacent to the mediastinum (distance ≤10 mm).Materials and methods Ninety patients with 98 GGOs (diameter range, 6–30 mm), located within 10 mm of the mediastinum, underwent synchronous biopsy and MWA at a single institution from 1 May 2020, to 31 October 2021 and were enrolled in this study. Synchronous biopsy and MWA involving the completion of the biopsy and MWA in a single procedure was performed. Safety, technical success rate, and local progression-free survival (LPFS) were evaluated. The risk factors for local progression were calculated using the Mann–Whitney U test.Results The technical success rate was 97.96% (96/98 patients). The LPFS rates at 3, 6, and 12 months were 95.0%, 90.0%, and 82.0%, respectively. The diagnostic rate of biopsy-proven malignancy was 72.45% (n = 71/98). Invasion of lesions into the mediastinum was a risk factor for local progression (p = 0.0077). The 30-day mortality rate was 0. The major complications were pneumothorax (13.27%), ventricular arrhythmias (3.06%), pleural effusion (1.02%), hemoptysis (1.02%), and infection (1.02%). Minor complications included pneumothorax (30.61%), pleural effusion (24.49%), hemoptysis (18.37%), ventricular arrhythmias (11.22%), structural changes in adjacent organs (3.06%), and infection (3.06%).Conclusions Synchronous biopsy and MWA was effective for treating GGOs adjacent to the mediastinum without severe complications (Society of Interventional Radiology classification E or F). Invasion of lesions into the mediastinum was identified as a risk factor for local progression.

The systematical characterization and understanding of the metabolic behaviors are the basis of the efficient plant metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. Genome-scale metabolic networks (GSMNs) are indispensable tools for the comprehensive characterization of overall metabolic profile. Here we first constructed a GSMN of tobacco, which is one of the most widely used plant chassis, and then combined the tobacco GSMN and multiomics analysis to systematically elucidate the impact of in-vitro cultivation on the tobacco metabolic network. In-vitro cultivation is a widely used technique for plant cultivation, not only in the field of basic research but also for the rapid propagation of valuable horticultural and pharmaceutical plants. However, the systemic effects of in-vitro cultivation on overall plant metabolism could easily be overlooked and are still poorly understood. We found that in-vitro tobacco showed slower growth, less biomass and suppressed photosynthesis than soil-grown tobacco. Many changes of metabolites and metabolic pathways between in-vitro and soil-grown tobacco plants were identified, which notably revealed a significant increase of the amino acids content under in-vitro condition. The in silico investigation showed that in-vitro tobacco downregulated photosynthesis and primary carbon metabolism, while significantly upregulated the GS/GOGAT cycle, as well as producing more energy and less NADH/NADPH to acclimate in-vitro growth demands. Altogether, the combination of experimental and in silico analyses offers an unprecedented view of tobacco metabolism, with valuable insights into the impact of in-vitro cultivation, enabling more efficient utilization of in-vitro techniques for plant propagation and metabolic engineering.

IntroductionPostoperative delirium (POD) is an acute, transient brain disorder associated with decreased postoperative quality of life, dementia, neurocognitive changes, and mortality. A small number of trials have explored the role of S-ketamine in the treatment of POD due to its neuroprotective effects. Surprisingly, these trials have failed to yield supportive results. However, heterogeneity in delirium assessment methodologies, sample sizes, and outcome settings as well as deficiencies in S-ketamine use methods make the evidence provided by these studies less persuasive. Given the severe impact of POD on the health of elderly patients and the potential for S-ketamine to prevent it, we believe that designing a large sample size, and rigorous randomized controlled trial for further evaluation is necessary.MethodsThis is a single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pragmatic study. Subjects undergoing total hip or knee arthroplasty will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to intervention (n = 186) and placebo (n = 186) groups. This trial aims to explore the potential role of S-ketamine in the prevention of POD. Its primary outcome is the incidence of POD within 3 postoperative days. Secondary outcomes include the number of POD episodes, the onset and duration of POD, the severity and subtype of POD, pain scores and opioid consumption, sleep quality, clinical outcomes, and safety outcomes.DiscussionTo our knowledge, this is the first pragmatic study that proposes to use S-ketamine to prevent POD. We reviewed a large body of literature to identify potential preoperative confounding variables that may bias associations between the intervention and primary outcome. We will use advanced statistical methods to correct potential confounding variables, improving the test’s power and external validity of test results. Of note, the patient population included in this trial will undergo intraspinal anesthesia. Although large, multicenter, randomized controlled studies have found no considerable difference in the effects of regional and general anesthesia on POD, patients receiving intraspinal anesthesia have less exposure to at-risk drugs, such as sevoflurane, propofol, and benzodiazepines, than patients receiving general anesthesia. At-risk drugs have been shown to negatively interfere with the neuroprotective effects of S-ketamine, which may be the reason for the failure of a large number of previous studies. There is currently a lack of randomized controlled studies evaluating S-ketamine for POD prevention, and our trial helps to fill a gap in this area.Trial registration: http://www.chictr.org.cn, identifier ChiCTR2300075796.

The Baiquan Spring in Xinxiang has many functions, such as water supply, agricultural irrigation, humanities, tourism and ecology. It is of great significance to study the dynamics of the spring flow rate and establish a dynamic prediction model for the spring water resources evaluation and protection. In order to further study the dynamic characteristics of the Baiquan Spring flow rate in Xinxiang and evaluate karst water resources in the spring area, based on the data of annually measured spring flow rate and annual average precipitation in the spring area from 1964 to 1978, the main influencing factors of the spring flow rate are determined by using the stepwise regression analysis, and a stepwise regression model is established, with remarkable regression effect. On the basis of the stepwise regression analysis, this paper establishes the GM(1, 2) model, NSGM(1, 2) model and GM(0, 2) model for the dynamic prediction of the spring flow rate. The results show that (1) from 1964 to 1978, the Baiquan spring flow rate was mainly controlled by the precipitation in the spring area, and the spring flow rate lagged behind the precipitation for one year, reflecting the dynamic characteristics of the spring water in the natural state. (2) The accuracy levels of the three grey models are the highest (excellent). (3) From 1964 to 1978, the measured discharge of the Baiquan spring ranged from 2.347 to 6.448 m3/s, with an average of 3.904 m3/s. The predicted values of the stepwise regression model range from 1.882 to 6.383 m3/s, with an average of 3.904 m3/s. The predicted value of the GM(1, 2) model varies between 2.327 and 6.448 m3/s, with an average of 3.939 m3/s. The predicted values of the NSGM(1, 2) model range from 2.133 to 6.448 m3/s, with an average of 3.927 m3/s. The predicted values of the GM(0, 2) model range from 1.787 to 6.448 m3/s, with an average of 3.907 m3/s. (4) The average relative errors of the stepwise regression model and the three grey models mentioned above are 7.794%, 7.292%, 7.122% and 7.797% respectively, all of which are less than 10%, indicating that they can be used for dynamic prediction of the spring water. Among them, the NSGM(1, 2) model has a higher accuracy and better fitting to the inflection point of the curve. (5) According to the spring flow rate from 1964 to 2030 predicted by the four models, the exploitation resources of the karst water in the Baiquan spring area should not exceed 1.69 m3/s from the angle of spring protection. The research results can not only provide scientific basis for spring flow dynamic prediction and spring area water resources evaluation, but also provide reference for the study of groundwater dynamics in similar areas.

The collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates continues to drive significant deformation and uplift within the interior of the Tibetan Plateau, together with its outward expansion along the margins. In particular, the North Qilian Shan fold-thrust belt (NQLS) and the Hexi Corridor basins (HXBS) represent the northernmost region of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. This area serves as a natural laboratory for deciphering mechanisms of crustal deformation and thickening along the plateau’s margins. Specifically, the northeastern Tibetan Plateau has been attributed to 1) southward underthrusting of the Asian lithosphere, 2) distributed shortening and crustal thickening, 3) vertical inflation of the Tibetan crust due to mid-lower crustal channel flow, and 4) intracontinental subduction facilitated by large-scale strike–slip faults. The exact mechanism underlying the most concentrated convergent stress in the western segment of NQLS–HXBS remains a subject of debate. To address this uncertainty, we gathered seismic data along a 130-km-long linear array that extends northward from NQLS, traversing the Jiuquan Basin and reaching the Huahai Basin. Our analysis, conducted through the receiver function method, reveals intriguing findings. The Moho depth deepens from 45–50 km beneath the Huahai Basin to 55–60 km beneath NQLS. Notably, a double Moho structure emerged, marked by a distinctive near-flat positive amplitude at a depth of 45–50 km beneath NQLS within a distance of 0–50 km. Our study presents a comprehensive analysis of the crust-scale deformation mechanism, shedding light on the following key aspects: 1) the development of a decollement at 12–20 km depth decoupling the upper and lower crust; 2) deformation of the upper crust occurring through south-dipping brittle thrust faults, while the lower crust features imbricate structures and duplexes; 3) evidence pointing to the underthrusting of the Beishan Block beneath NQLS, indicated by the double Moho beneath NQLS; and 4) the formation of a Moho ramp beneath the Jiuquan Basin, facilitating the transfer of shortening stress from beneath NQLS and HXBS to the north. In the context of the western segment of NQLS and HXBS, our speculation is that coupled distributed shortening and Beishan Block subduction beneath NQLS work in tandem to accommodate crustal deformation.

The first laser–plasma interaction experiment using lasers of eight beams grouped into one octad has been conducted on the Shenguang Octopus facility. Although each beam intensity is below its individual threshold for stimulated Brillouin backscattering (SBS), collective behaviors are excited to enhance the octad SBS. In particular, when two-color/cone lasers with wavelength separation 0.3 nm are used, the backward SBS reflectivities show novel behavior in which beams of longer wavelength achieve higher SBS gain. This property of SBS can be attributed to the rotation of the wave vectors of common ion acoustic waves due to the competition of detunings between geometrical angle and wavelength separation. This mechanism is confirmed using massively parallel supercomputer simulations with the three-dimensional laser–plasma interaction code LAP3D.

Purpose: With a growing number of athletes and coaches adopting altitude training, the importance for rationalizing and optimizing such training has been emphasized. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the influence of altitude training on athletes' aerobic capacity and to explore the best altitude training method to improve this capacity. Methods: We searched Web of Science, SpringerLink, Science Direct, EBSCO, and PubMed databases combined with manual search of the references to collect studies indexed from 1979 to September 2020 on the effect of altitude training on athletes' aerobic capacity. Data from experimental studies that reported hemoglobin levels and maximum oxygen uptake in athletes before and after altitude training, or in athletes performing altitude training in comparison with a control group were analyzed. Data of the populations, intervention, comparison, outcomes and study design were extracted. Review Manager software 5.3 was used for bias evaluation. Results: 17 publications were included. In our meta-analysis, altitude training led to higher maximum oxygen uptake [standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.67, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.35–1.00, P

Traditional deep neural network (DNN) based process monitoring methods only use the deep features of the last layer and residuals to achieve fault detection. However, the features in different hidden layers are different representations of the input data, which may be beneficial to process monitoring. Only using the deepest features for process monitoring will cause the problems of information loss and low monitoring performance. To obtain more useful information for fault detection, this paper considers the features in all hidden layers and proposed an ensemble monitoring model based on multi-subspace partition of deep features. Firstly, a DNN model is established based on the collected faultless data to obtain the features in all hidden layers and residuals. Secondly, a new feature matrix is constructed based on the retained deep features and residuals. Then, the multi-subspace partition of the new feature matrix is realized by combining correlation analysis and cluster analysis. Finally, the monitoring statistics that are established based on the features in each subspace are fused to realize process monitoring. The proposed method can not only reduce information loss but also enrich the fault-related information. The monitoring performance is verified through two benchmark processes and one actual industrial process.

Abstract Background In molecular biology studies, the selection of optimal reference genes is of vital importance for accurately quantifying gene expression. The purpose of the present study was to screen the most stable reference genes in different muscle tissues of New Zealand white rabbits and Yufeng yellow rabbits. Methods and results Results indicated that the most stable reference genes in the muscle tissues of New Zealand white rabbits were HPRT1, ACTB and PPIC, while HPRT1, PPIC, and RPL13A were the most stable reference genes in muscle tissues of Yufeng yellow rabbits. However, in the longissimus dorsi muscle and the abdominal wall muscle of both varieties, the most stable reference genes were HPRT1, RPL13A, and SDHA. In the quadriceps femoris muscle, the most stable reference genes were ACTB, HPRT1, and SDHA. Furthermore, the relative abundance of MYOG, MYH3 and MSTN was used to confirm the suitability and reliability of the selected most stable reference genes and the most unstable reference gene. Results revealed the same expression patterns of these myogenic genes when normalized according to the most stable genes, while normalization against the unstable reference gene altered the observed expression patterns. Conclusions Taken together, our results demonstrated that the most stable reference genes varied among different muscle tissues and different breeds of rabbits. However, HPRT1, PPIC and SDHA presented high stability among all examined reference genes; thus, the combined analysis of HPRT1/ PPIC/ SDHA gene provides the best reference for RT-qPCR in muscle tissues of New Zealand white rabbits and Yufeng yellow rabbits, while HPRT1 is a better choice than other reference genes when using a single reference gene to assess target gene expression. Our results provide basic data for better measuring target gene expression profiles in muscle tissues of rabbits.

F-actin dynamics influence cancer cell motility. Here the authors show that TM9SF4 facilitates the cofilin-induced disassembly of F-actin to promote cancer cell migration and metastasis.

Abstract Background This retrospective study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of microwave ablation for lung tumors adjacent to the interlobar fissures. Methods From May 2020 to April 2021, 59 patients with 66 lung tumors (mean diameter, 16.9 ± 7.7 mm; range, 6–30 mm) adjacent to the interlobar fissures who underwent microwave ablation at our institution were identified and included in this study. Based on the relationship between the tumor and the interlobar fissure, tumors can be categorized into close to the fissure, causing the fissure, and involving the fissure. The complete ablation rate, local progression‐free survival, complications, and associated factors were analyzed. Results All 66 histologically proven tumors were treated using computed tomography‐guided microwave ablation. The complete ablation rate was 95.5%. Local progression‐free survival at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months were 89.4%, 83.3%, 74.2%, and 63.6%, respectively. The complications included pneumothorax (34.8%), pleural effusion (24.2%), cavity (18.2%), and pulmonary infection (7.6%). There were statistical differences in the incidence of pneumothorax, cavity, and delayed complications between the groups with and without antenna punctures through the fissure. Conclusions Microwave ablation is a safe and effective treatment for lung tumor adjacent to the interlobar fissure. Antenna puncturing though the interlobar fissure may be a potential risk factor for pneumothorax, cavity, and delayed complications.

Summary: Floods occur more frequently in the context of climate change; however, flood monitoring capacity has not been well established. Here, we used a synergic mapping framework to characterize summer floods in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Plain and the effects on croplands in 2020, from both flood extent and intensity perspectives. We found that the total flood extent was 4936 km2 from July to August, and for flood intensity, 1658, 1382, and 1896 km2 of areas experienced triple, double, and single floods. A total of 2282 km2 croplands (46% of the flooded area) were inundated mainly from Poyang and Dongting Lake Basins, containing a high ratio of moderate damage croplands (47%). The newly increased flooding extent in 2020 was 29% larger than the maximum ever-flooded extent in 2015–2019. This study is expected to provide a reference for rapid regional flood disaster assessment and serving mitigation.

IntroductionAtrial fibrillation (AF) is a challenging cardiovascular disease worldwide. Wearable electrocardiograph devices (WEDs) have great potential to improve the detection rate of AF in primary care. However, the factors that influence general practitioners’ (GPs) perception and acceptance of WEDs are not well understood. To identify factors that influence the intention of GPs to utilize WEDs in a clinical setting to screen patients for AF.MethodThe research hypotheses and questionnaire items were designed and developed based on the unified theory of acceptance and technology (UTAUT) framework. We used stratified sampling and obtained the data through an online survey. Dimethoate contaminants in food pose a threat to human health. Rapid and sensitive trace detection methods are required to keep food safe. In this study, a novel fluorescent aptasensor was developed for the sensitive detection of dimethoate based on carbon quantum dots labeled with double-stranded DNA (CQDs−apt−cDNA) and Ti3C2Tx flakes. Under optimal conditions, the aptasensor showed a good linear range of 1 × 10−9 to 5 × 10−5 M for dimethoate with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.996. Besides, a low detection limit of 2.18 × 10−10 M was obtained. The aptasensor showed high selectivity in interference samples and good reproducibility with an RSD of 3.06% (

Coprophagy prevention (CP) affects the growth performance, hepatic lipid synthesis, and gut microbiota in rabbits. Supplementation with Clostridium butyricum (C. butyricum, Strain number: CCTCC M 2019962) has been found to improve growth performance in rabbits. However, it remains unknown whether C. butyricum can ameliorate the effects of CP on hepatic lipid synthesis and the underlying mechanisms are yet to be elucidated. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of CP on hepatic lipid synthesis and the underlying mechanism based on the gut–liver axis. The findings revealed that supplementation with C. butyricum could reverse CP-related growth performance, lipid accumulation, bile acid synthesis, and inflammation. Furthermore, C. butyricum exerted protective effects on the gut by preserving intestinal barrier integrity and modulating gut microbiota composition; these factors may represent potential mechanisms through which C. butyricum improves CP-related outcomes. Specifically, C. butyricum reshaped the microbiota by increasing butyric acid levels, thereby maintaining secondary bile acid (deoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid) balance and attenuating the inhibitory effects of the FXR/SHP pathway on lipid synthesis (SREBP1c/ApoA1). Moreover, the activation of butyrate/GPR43pathway by C. butyricum reduced damage to the intestinal barrier (ZO-1/Occludin/Claudin1) and restored the gut immune microenvironment in CP rabbits. In summary, supplementation with C. butyricum can alleviate the adverse effects of CP on growth performance and hepatic lipid synthesis by modulating the gut–liver axis.

Liquid-assisted pulsed laser cleaning is achieved by coating kerosene on titanium alloy oxide film, and the surface was processed to form micro- and nanostructured amorphous-nanocrystalline phases oxidized layer after laser cleaning. The surface morphology is acquired by changing the laser fluence (F) and spot overlap ratio (Ux = Uy) with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The surface composition change was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to analyze the sample section. The surface quality is optimal when the laser fluence is between 5.095 J/cm2 and 6.37 J/cm2 at the spot ratio of 70%. The ridge structure appears on surface when the laser fluence exceeds 7.644 J/cm2. The original oxide film consisted of titanium oxides (Ti4+ and Ti3+) and C-containing contaminants. Ti0 peak appears on the surface at 6.37 J/cm2 and TiC might be formed on the surface for new peak (281.6 eV). The martensitic heat-affected layer was formed about 2.33 um at 6.37 J/cm2, and surface oxide layer is only about 12 nm. The removal mechanisms of liquid-assisted laser cleaning titanium alloy oxide film are laser-induced shock wave, laser ablation and phase blasting at difference fluence. Liquid-assisted laser cleaning technology can provide an effective surface cleaning and material processing process.

BackgroundThe global COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, and cross-country and cross-period variation in COVID-19 age-adjusted case fatality rates (CFRs) has not been clarified. Here, we aimed to identify the country-specific effects of booster vaccination and other features that may affect heterogeneity in age-adjusted CFRs with a worldwide scope, and to predict the benefit of increasing booster vaccination rate on future CFR.MethodCross-temporal and cross-country variations in CFR were identified in 32 countries using the latest available database, with multi-feature (vaccination coverage, demographic characteristics, disease burden, behavioral risks, environmental risks, health services and trust) using Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). After that, country-specific risk features that affect age-adjusted CFRs were identified. The benefit of booster on age-adjusted CFR was simulated by increasing booster vaccination by 1–30% in each country.ResultsOverall COVID-19 age-adjusted CFRs across 32 countries ranged from 110 deaths per 100,000 cases to 5,112 deaths per 100,000 cases from February 4, 2020 to Jan 31, 2022, which were divided into countries with age-adjusted CFRs higher than the crude CFRs and countries with age-adjusted CFRs lower than the crude CFRs (n = 9 and n = 23) when compared with the crude CFR. The effect of booster vaccination on age-adjusted CFRs becomes more important from Alpha to Omicron period (importance scores: 0.03–0.23). The Omicron period model showed that the key risk factors for countries with higher age-adjusted CFR than crude CFR are low GDP per capita and low booster vaccination rates, while the key risk factors for countries with higher age-adjusted CFR than crude CFR were high dietary risks and low physical activity. Increasing booster vaccination rates by 7% would reduce CFRs in all countries with age-adjusted CFRs higher than the crude CFRs.ConclusionBooster vaccination still plays an important role in reducing age-adjusted CFRs, while there are multidimensional concurrent risk factors and precise joint intervention strategies and preparations based on country-specific risks are also essential.

In this paper, we use artificial intelligence image recognition to obtain Digestive endoscopy image, and process the image based on 5G Deep learning edge algorithm to judge the disease type of the patient, and then consider the treatment plan. The combination of body area network and edge computing technology can meet the demand of low delay in body area network. In this case, the resource constrained body area network gateway node can process the physiological data collected by it into an offloadable task, and then unload the task and data to the edge computing node according to a certain strategy. The edge computing node completes the corresponding task processing and data storage, and finally provides the results to the relevant medical institutions and body area network users for reading auxiliary diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Studies have shown that 25% of patients with colon polyps have CD4 cells in peripheral blood based on 5G deep learning edge algorithm under artificial intelligence image recognition of Digestive endoscopy. The number of lymphocyte in group of differentiation was less than 200/μL, and the blood RNA in 92.3% patients was lower than 100 IU/ml, while fam CTP (A-cyclic peptide) was lower than 100 IU/ml. Opportunistic infections of the intestine and viruses can directly cause enteropathy because the fluorescence intensity of the probe is essentially unchanged and cannot form a triple helix structure. In terms of feature recognition accuracy, the 5G deep learning edge algorithm in this paper improves accuracy by 68% compared to the simple Yolo algorithm, and is similar in speed. Compared with RCNN algorithm, the accuracy and speed are improved by 21% and 85% respectively. Therefore, the 5G deep learning edge algorithm based on artificial intelligence image recognition has the advantages of accuracy and speed in digestive endoscopy of intelligent medical.

Abstract Background Rectal adenocarcinoma is one of major public health problems, severely threatening people’s health and life. Cox proportional hazard models have been applied in previous studies widely to analyze survival data. However, such models ignore competing risks and treat them as censored, resulting in excessive statistical errors. Therefore, a competing-risk model was applied with the aim of decreasing risk of bias and thereby obtaining more-accurate results and establishing a competing-risk nomogram for better guiding clinical practice. Methods A total of 22,879 rectal adenocarcinoma cases who underwent primary-site surgical resection were collected from the SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) database. Death due to rectal adenocarcinoma (DRA) and death due to other causes (DOC) were two competing endpoint events in the competing-risk regression analysis. The cumulative incidence function for DRA and DOC at each time point was calculated. Gray’s test was applied in the univariate analysis and Gray’s proportional subdistribution hazard model was adopted in the multivariable analysis to recognize significant differences among groups and obtain significant factors that could affect patients’ prognosis. Next, A competing-risk nomogram was established predicting the cause-specific outcome of rectal adenocarcinoma cases. Finally, we plotted calibration curve and calculated concordance indexes (c-index) to evaluate the model performance. Results 22,879 patients were included finally. The results showed that age, race, marital status, chemotherapy, AJCC stage, tumor size, and number of metastasis lymph nodes were significant prognostic factors for postoperative rectal adenocarcinoma patients. We further successfully constructed a competing-risk nomogram to predict the 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year cause-specific mortality of rectal adenocarcinoma patients. The calibration curve and C-index indicated that the competing-risk nomogram model had satisfactory prognostic ability. Conclusion Competing-risk analysis could help us obtain more-accurate results for rectal adenocarcinoma patients who had undergone surgery, which could definitely help clinicians obtain accurate prediction of the prognosis of patients and make better clinical decisions.

The source of oil and gas and the stages of oil and gas accumulation in the “double-Paleo” field of the HZ-A structure in the Pearl River Mouth Basin are analyzed, and the spatiotemporal coupling relationship of the key conditions of oil and gas accumulation are discussed to reconstruct the process of oil and gas accumulation. Based on previous research results, which are based the characteristics of biomarker compounds, the oil and gas in the HZ-A structure double Paleogene field came from the Paleogene Wenchang Formation hydrocarbon source rocks in the HZ26 sub-sag. By means of the casting thin section identification and inclusion homogenization temperature measurement, this paper reveals the three major hydrocarbon accumulation periods and corresponding fluid charging types in the “double-Paleo” field of the HZ-A structure in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. The results show that 13.8–10 Ma is the charging period of low mature crude oil, 10–5.3 Ma is the charging period of mature crude oil, and from 5.3 Ma is the natural gas charging period. Based on actual geological, drilling, logging, and seismic data, the key conditions for hydrocarbon accumulation in the HZ-A structure “double-Paleo” field are sorted out; that is, the source conditions are characterized by high-quality lacustrine source rocks generating early oil and late gas and a near-source continuous hydrocarbon supply. The reservoir conditions are characterized by weathering and superposition of a fracture zone that transforms into a reservoir, and a large-scale sandstone rock mass that transforms into a reservoir. The caprock conditions are characterized by the stacking of several thin mudstones that form a seal and the combination of multiple lithologies that block hydrocarbon migration. The trap conditions are characterized by multistage uplift structure traps and fracture-lithology combination control traps. The transport conditions are characterized by multi-stage cross-bed transport of source-connected faults and lateral differential transport of shallow sand in deep fractures. Finally, oil and gas accumulation models of the HZ-A structure double Paleogene field were established, and the accumulation process was reconstructed. The overall process involved three stages, with the first stage being the localized oil-displacing-water mode, the second being the large-scale oil-displacing-water mode, and the third being the late progressive gas-displacing-oil mode.
