Highlights The robust organic/inorganic hybrid interlayer derived from in situ formed tribofilms were fabricated by using a scalable rolling method. The interlayer facilitates dendrite-free lithium metal anodes by building local de-solvation environments near the interface and inhibiting both dendrite growth and electrolytes corrosion. The symmetrical cell exhibits a remarkable lifespan of 5,600 h (1.0 mA cm-2 and 1.0 mAh cm-2) and 1,350 cycles even at a harsh condition (18.0 mA cm-2 and 3.0 mAh cm-2).

Abstract A practical high-specific-energy Li metal battery requires thin (≤20 μm) and free-standing Li metal anodes, but the low melting point and strong diffusion creep of lithium metal impede their scalable processing towards thin-thickness and free-standing architecture. In this paper, thin (5 to 50 μm) and free-standing lithium strips were achieved by mechanical rolling, which is determined by the in situ tribochemical reaction between lithium and zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP). A friction-induced organic/inorganic hybrid interface (~450 nm) was formed on Li with an ultra-high hardness (0.84 GPa) and Young’s modulus (25.90 GPa), which not only enables the scalable process mechanics of thin lithium strips but also facilitates dendrite-free lithium metal anodes by inhibiting dendrite growth. The rolled lithium anode exhibits a prolonged cycle lifespan and high-rate cycle stability (in excess of more than 1700 cycles even at 18.0 mA cm−2 and 1.5 mA cm−2 at 25 °C). Meanwhile, the LiFePO4 (with single-sided load 10 mg/cm2) ||Li@ZDDP full cell can last over 350 cycles with a high-capacity retention of 82% after the formation cycles at 5 C (1 C = 170 mA/g) and 25 °C. This work provides a scalable approach concerning tribology design for producing practical thin free-standing lithium metal anodes.

Abstract. Background:. LY01005 (Goserelin acetate sustained-release microsphere injection) is a modified gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist injected monthly. This phase III trial study aimed to evaluated the efficacy and safety of LY01005 in Chinese patients with prostate cancer. Methods:. We conducted a randomized controlled, open-label, non-inferiority trial across 49 sites in China. This study included 290 patients with prostate cancer who received either LY01005 or goserelin implants every 28 days for three injections. The primary efficacy endpoints were the percentage of patients with testosterone suppression ≤50 ng/dL at day 29 and the cumulative probability of testosterone ≤50 ng/dL from day 29 to 85. Non-inferiority was prespecified at a margin of -10%. Secondary endpoints included significant castration (≤20 ng/dL), testosterone surge within 72 h following repeated dosing, and changes in luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and prostate specific antigen levels. Results:. On day 29, in the LY01005 and goserelin implant groups, testosterone concentrations fell below medical-castration levels in 99.3% (142/143) and 100% (140/140) of patients, respectively, with a difference of -0.7% (95% confidence interval [CI], -3.9% to 2.0%) between the two groups. The cumulative probabilities of maintaining castration from days 29 to 85 were 99.3% and 97.8%, respectively, with a between-group difference of 1.5% (95% CI, -1.3% to 4.4%). Both results met the criterion for non-inferiority. Secondary endpoints were similar between groups. Both treatments were well-tolerated. LY01005 was associated with fewer injection-site reactions than the goserelin implant (0% vs. 1.4% [2/145]). Conclusion:. LY01005 is as effective as goserelin implants in reducing testosterone to castration levels, with a similar safety profile. Trial registration:. ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04563936.

Recently, bismuth (Bi)-based photocatalysts have been a well-deserved hotspot in the field of photocatalysis owning to their photoelectrochemical properties driven by the distortion of the Bi 6 s orbital, while their narrow band gap and poor quantum efficiency still restrict their application. With the development of ultrasonic technology, it is expected to become a broom to clear the application obstacles of Bi-based photocatalysts. The special forces and environmental conditions brought by ultrasonic irradiation play beneficial roles in the preparation, modification and performance releasement of Bi-based photocatalysts. In this review, the role and influencing factors of ultrasound in the preparation and modification of Bi-based photocatalysts were introduced. Crucially, the mechanism of the improving the performance for various types of Bi-based photocatalysts by ultrasound in the whole process of photocatalysis was deeply analyzed. Then, the application of ultrasonic synergistic Bi-based photocatalysts in contaminants treatment and energy conversion was briefly introduced. Finally, based on an unambiguous understanding of ultrasonic technology in assisting Bi-based photocatalysts, the future directions and possibilities for ultrasonic synergistic Bi-based photocatalysts are explored.

Adult hippocampal neurogenesis generates functional neurons from neural progenitor cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) to complement and repair neurons and neural circuits, thus benefiting the treatment of depression. Increasing evidence has shown that aberrant microglial activity can disrupt the appropriate formation and development of functional properties of neurogenesis, which will play a crucial role in the occurrence and development of depression. However, the mechanisms of the crosstalk between microglia and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in depression are not yet fully understood. Therefore, in this review, we first introduce recent discoveries regarding the roles of microglia and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in the etiology of depression. Then, we systematically discuss the possible mechanisms of how microglia regulate adult hippocampal neurogenesis in depression according to recent studies, which involve toll-like receptors, microglial polarization, fractalkine-C-X3-C motif chemokine receptor 1, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, cytokines, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and the microbiota-gut-brain axis, etc. In addition, we summarize the promising drugs that could improve the adult hippocampal neurogenesis by regulating the microglia. These findings will help us understand the complicated pathological mechanisms of depression and shed light on the development of new treatment strategies for this disease.

[Objective] The effects of forest types on soil carbon and nitrogen contents and enzyme activity were analyzed in order to provide a scientific basis for the selection of tree species and forest management methods in the transformation of subtropical coniferous forests. [Methods] The study evaluated data from a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest (Castanopsis carlesii forest), an evergreen deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest (Betula fujianensis and Phoebe bournei mixed forest), and a coniferous forest (Pinus massoniana forest) at the same altitude and similar environmental conditions. [Results] ① The total soil organic carbon content in the P. massoniana forest was significantly greater than in the other two forest types, and the total soil nitrogen content was not significantly different from that in the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. However, both carbon and nitrogen contents were significantly greater than in the C. carlesii forest. The soil nitrogen and carbon reserves of the P. massoniana forest and the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest were significantly greater than the nitrogen and carbon reserves of the C. carlesii forest. The soil soluble organic carbon contents in the P. massoniana forest and the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest were significantly greater than in the C. carlesii forest. The soil soluble organic nitrogen content in the P. massoniana forest was significantly less than in the C. carlesii forest and the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. The soil microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen contents in the C. carlesii forest and the P. massoniana forest were significantly greater than in the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. There were no significant differences in the soil ammonium nitrogen contents among the three forest stands. However, the soil nitrate nitrogen content in the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest was significantly greater than in the other two forest types. ② The soil urease activity in the C. carlesii forest was significantly greater than in the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. There were significant differences in soil invertase activities among the three stands, and the differences in activity followed the order of P. massoniana forest > C. carlesii forest > B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. The soil catalase activities in the P. massoniana forest and the C. carlesii forest were significantly greater than in the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. There was no significant difference in soil phosphatase activity among the three forest stands. Soil β-glucosidase activity in the P. massoniana forest was significantly greater than in the C. carlesii forest and the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest. RDA analysis showed that the main factors affecting the change of soil enzyme activity in the three forests were total soil carbon (explanation rate of 59.5%), total nitrogen (explanation rate of 11.0%), and nitrate nitrogen (explanation rate of 14.6%). [Conclusion] The P. massoniana forest and the B. fujianensis and P. bournei mixed forest had greater soil carbon and nitrogen storage values than observed for the C. carlesii forest under the same disturbance background. The increased soil organic matter was conducive to increase soil enzyme activity.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the value of high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) in differentiation of the seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (SNRA) and osteoarthritis (OA) and in the diagnosis of SNRA. 83 patients diagnosed with SNRA (SNRA group) and 40 diagnosed with OA (OA group) who received HFUS were retrospectively analyzed. The grayscale (GS) scores, power Doppler (PD) scores, and bone erosion (BE)scores were recorded, and added up to calculate the total scores of US variables. The correlations of the total scores of US variables with the 28-joint disease activity score (DAS28), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were analyzed. The diagnostic efficacy of the total scores of US variables for SNRA was assessed. In the SNRA group, the detection rate of abnormal US findings in the joints and tendons by GS and PD as well as BE was higher than those in the OA group. There were significant differences between the two groups in GS scores and PD scores of joints and tendons, and BE scores of joints (P 0.05). Among different US variables, the diagnostic value of total PD scores of the joints was the highest for SNRA. HFUS could be used to differentiate SNRA from OA and make a diagnosis of SNRA based on joint and tendon synovial sheath assessment.

Abstract Linguistic preference relations (LPRs) and its variations served for different decision-making situations are significantly important instruments of qualitative decision-making. The consistency analysis of LPRs is a necessary prerequisite for further operations of these original preference relations so as to ensure that the final decision results are convincing. However, the existing consistency improvement methods for LPRs are difficult to guarantee the reliability of the revised LPRs. Because the suggested LPRs from these methods either not eliminate the ordinal inconsistency or not satisfy the expectation of minimum modification. In this paper, a new definition of ordinal consistency of LPRs is first proposed and then an optimization approach is constructed to eliminate ordinal inconsistency for LPRs. Secondly, a new cardinal consistency index for LPRs is proposed and a corresponding optimization model to increase the cardinal consistency level is presented. After that, an optimization model is proposed to simultaneously manage ordinal and cardinal inconsistency for LPRs. Last, the proposed models are applied to a real linguistic decision-making problem involving evaluation and selection of investment projects. The comparative analysis and discussion illustrate the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed models.

Here, capacitive deionization technology (CDI) using modified activated carbon fiber felt (ACF) electrodes was proposed to provide a new strategy for the challenge of simultaneous phosphorus and fluoride wastewater treatment. The acid-modified iron-loaded ACF (A@Fe-ACF) was obtained by modifying ACF through a two-step impregnation method. After the modification, the oxygen-containing functional groups on ACF increased and provided more adsorption sites. The electron transfer efficiency on the A@Fe-ACF was increased by introducing Fe and synergistically promoted the adsorption of phosphorus and fluorine. Results showed that the removal efficiencies of total phosphorus (TP) and total fluorine (TF) in wastewater reached 89.4% and 85% under optimal conditions (voltage intensity 1.5 V, pH 7, plate spacing 1 cm), while the adsorption mechanism of phosphorus and fluorine was dominated by chemical adsorption. Meanwhile, A@Fe-ACF electrode has good recyclability and stability after five cycles.

During infection, Bacillus anthracis bacilli encounter potent antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) such as defensins. We examined the role that B. anthracis capsule plays in protecting bacilli from defensins and other cationic AMPs by comparing their effects on a fully virulent encapsulated wild type (WT) strain and an isogenic capsule-deficient capA mutant strain. We identified several human defensins and non-human AMPs that were capable of killing B. anthracis. The human alpha defensins 1-6 (HNP-1-4, HD-5-6), the human beta defensins 1-4 (HBD-1-4), and the non-human AMPs, protegrin, gramicidin D, polymyxin B, nisin, and melittin were all capable of killing both encapsulated WT and non-encapsulated capA mutant B. anthracis. However, non-encapsulated capA mutant bacilli were significantly more susceptible than encapsulated WT bacilli to killing by nearly all of the AMPs tested. We demonstrated that purified capsule bound HBD-2, HBD-3, and HNP-1 in an electrophoretic mobility shift assay. Furthermore, we determined that the capsule layer enveloping WT bacilli bound and trapped HBD-3, substantially reducing the amount reaching the cell wall. To assess whether released capsule might also play a protective role, we pre-incubated HBD-2, HBD-3, or HNP-1 with purified capsule before their addition to non-encapsulated capA mutant bacilli. We found that free capsule completely rescued the capA mutant bacilli from killing by HBD-2 and -3 while killing by HNP-1 was reduced to the level observed with WT bacilli. Together, these results suggest an immune evasion mechanism by which the capsule, both that enveloping the bacilli and released fragments, contributes to virulence by binding to and inhibiting the antimicrobial activity of cationic AMPs.

Microtubule dynamics are crucial for multiple cell functions, and cancer cells are particularly sensitive to microtubule-modulating agents. Here, we describe the design and synthesis of a series of (Z)-2-(5-benzylidene-4-oxo-2-thioxothiazolidin-3-yl)-N-phenylacetamide derivatives and evaluation of their microtubule-modulating and anticancer activities in vitro. Proliferation assays identified I20 as the most potent of the antiproliferative compounds, with 50% inhibitory concentrations ranging from 7.0 to 20.3 µM with A549, PC-3, and HepG2 human cancer cell lines. Compound I20 also disrupted cancer A549 cell migration in a concentration-dependent manner. Immunofluorescence microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and tubulin polymerisation assays suggested that compound I20 promoted protofilament assembly. In support of this possibility, computational docking studies revealed a strong interaction between compound I20 and tubulin Arg β369, which is also the binding site for the anticancer drug Taxol. Our results suggest that (Z)-2-(5-benzylidene-4-oxo-2-thioxothiazolidin-3-yl)-N-phenylacetamide derivatives could have utility for the development of microtubule-stabilising therapeutic agents.

ObjectiveTo investigate a seasonal variation in blood pressure (BP) for patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD).MethodsIn this retrospective study, we exported all BP measurements from the information system to investigate a seasonal variation of BP. We also investigated a seasonal variation in BP for patients of different gender types, of different age groups, with diabetic nephropathy (DN), and with non-DN having HD. Multiple linear regression models were used to explore the associations between BP and climatic parameters.ResultsIn 2019, a total of 367 patients had received HD therapy in the Longwen HD unit. We included nearly 40,000 pre-dialysis BP measurements. The result of our study demonstrated a clear seasonal variation in pre-dialysis BP in general patients with HD, in male and female patients, and patients with DN and non-DN. December seemed to be a peak in the values of pre-dialysis systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP). The nadir values of pre-dialysis SBP and DBP were observed in June and July, respectively. A difference between peak and nadir values of BP is 3.81/2.20 mmHg in patients undergoing HD. Maximal seasonal variation in BP is 9.03/5.08 mmHg for patients with DN. A significant association of SBP and DBP with climatic parameters was found in this study. Pre-dialysis BP was inversely correlated with outdoor temperature, daytime length, and relative humidity.ConclusionA clear seasonal variation in BP is observed for patients with HD. Pre-dialysis SBP and DBP are inversely associated with outdoor temperature, daytime length, and relative humidity. The magnitude of a seasonal variation in BP increases in patients with DN.

The WHO recommends Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACTs) as the first-line treatment for malaria. This meta-analysis aims to analyze the effects of artemisinin and its derivatives as well as non-artemisinin drugs on the gametophytes in the host during the treatment of falciparum malaria. Fourteen studies were included in this analysis, and the artemisinin combination drugs involved were: artemether-lumefantrine (AL), artemisinin (AST), artemether-benflumetol (AB), dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine + trimethoprim + primaquine (CV8), amodiaquine + sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (ASP), pyronaridine-phosphate + dihydroartemisinin (PP-DHA), dihydroartemisinin (DHA), and mefloquine + artesunate (MA), with 1702 patients. The control intervention measures involved the following: sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP), mefloquine (MQ), atovaquone-proguanil (AT-PG), chloroquine + sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (C-SP), quinine (Q), pyronaridine-phosphate (PP), pyronaridine (PN), and mefloquine + primaquine (MP), with 833 patients. The effect of ACTs was more obvious (OR = 0.37, 95%CI: 0.22–0.62, p < 0.05). In the control group of second malaria attacks, the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (RD = 1.16, 95%CI: 0.81–1.66, p < 0.05); there was no significant difference in treatment failure during follow-up (RD = -0.01, 95%CI: 0.04–0.03, p < 0.05). There were also very few serious adverse events in both groups. ACTs showed good therapeutic effects in preventing gametocythemia but did not control the recrudescence rate and overall cure, which indicated the effectiveness of the combination of antimalarial drugs. Further research is required to explore which compatibility method is most conducive to the development of clinical malaria control.

Malaria, one of the most serious parasitic diseases, kills thousands of people every year, especially in Africa. São Tomé and Príncipe are known to have stable transmission of malaria. Indoor residual spraying (IRS) of insecticides and long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) are considered as an effective malaria control interventions in these places. The resistance status of Anopheles gambiae s.s. from Agua Grande, Caue, and Lemba of São Tomé and Príncipe to insecticides, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) (4.0%), deltamethrin (0.05%), permethrin (0.75%), fenitrothion (1.0%), and malathion (5.0%), were tested according to the WHO standard protocol. DNA extraction, species identification, as well as kdr and ace-1R genotyping were done with the surviving and dead mosquitoes post testing. They showed resistance to cypermethrin with mortality rates ranging from 89.06% to 89.66%. Mosquitoes collected from Agua Grande, Caue, and Lemba displayed resistance to DDT and fenitrothion with mortality rates higher than 90%. No other species were detected in these study localities other than Anopheles gambiae s.s. The frequency of L1014F was high in the three investigated sites, which was detected for the first time in São Tomé and Príncipe. No ace-1R mutation was detected in all investigated sites. The high frequency of L1014F showed that kdr L1014F mutation might be related to insecticide resistance to Anopheles gambiae s.s. populations from São Tomé and Príncipe. Insecticide resistance status is alarming and, therefore, future malaria vector management should be seriously considered by the government of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Environment functional materials have been widely used, but whether their effects on the contaminated environment could facilitate phytoremediation is not yet well understood. In this study, starch stabilized nanoscale zerovalent iron (SN), multiwall carbon nanotubes (MW) and tea waste derived biochar (TB) were used to facilitate the phytoremediation of cadmium (Cd) contaminated sediments by Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaudich. Results showed that 100 mg/kg SN, 500 mg/kg MW and 500 mg/kg TB facilitated phytoremediation, as evidenced by increasing Cd accumulation and/or promoting plant growth. These concentrations of materials increased the reducible fraction of Cd by 9–10% and decreased the oxidizable proportion of Cd by 48–52%, indicating the improvement of Cd bioavailability through converting the oxidizable Cd into reducible form. The activities of urease, phosphatase and catalase, which related to nutrient utilization and oxidative stress alleviation, increased by 20–24%, 25–26%, and 8–9% in the sediments treated with 500 mg/kg MW and 500 mg/kg TB, respectively. In addition, the 16S rRNA gene sequence results showed that these concentrations of materials changed the bacterial diversity. The abundance of Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Nitrospirae and Firmicutes were increased by some of the applied materials, which could promote plant growth, change Cd bioavailability and reduce Cd toxicity. These findings indicated that the applied environment functional materials could facilitate the phytoremediation of Cd contaminated environment by changing Cd fractions, sediments properties and bacterial community structure.

Nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) with strong fluorescence were prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method using natural biomass waste. Two efficient fluorescent probes were constructed for selective and sensitive detection of oxytetracycline (OTC). The synthesized N-CQDs were characterized by UV-visible absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), which proved that the synthesized N-CQDs surface were functionalized and had stable fluorescence performance. The basis of N-CQDs detection of OTC was discussed, and various reaction conditions were studied. Under optimized conditions, orange peel carbon quantum dots (ON-CQDs) and watermelon peel carbon quantum dots (WN-CQDs) have a good linear relationship with OTC concentrations in the range of 2–100 µmol L−1 and 0.25–100 µmol L−1, respectively. ON-CQDs and WN-CQDs were both successfully applied in detecting the OTC in pretreated tap water, lake water, and soil, with the recovery rate at 91.724–103.206%, and the relative standard deviation was less than 5.35%. The results showed that the proposed N-CQDs proved to be green and simple, greatly reducing the detection time for OTC in the determination environment.

Failure of aircraft tires is a common cause for aviation accidents, whose results range from abnormal taking-off and landing process to fatal air crashes. Those consequences should not be neglected; hence, an authentication of airworthiness is necessary for the development of new aircrafts. Failure of aircraft tires can be caused by numerous factors and can be categorized into various modes. The related tests are of great significance for newly developed aircrafts to pass the authentication system. However, failures of aircraft tires can be unexpected, drastic, and extremely dangerous, which adds to the difficulties in tests. Besides, the test methods used currently contain insurmountable defects. In this article, a new test apparatus is developed to research the blowout of bias aircraft tires, which is in accordance with the Joint Aviation Authorities standard, and a test scheme is designed. With the jet flow field formed by the test apparatus and the comparison between simulation results and test data, the reliability of the test apparatus is proved. Ergo, a new test method for the airworthiness authentication of tire failures has been developed.

Lysozyme is often used as a feed additive and acts as an antimicrobial protein that enhances immune function and defends against pathogenic bacteria in pigs. In this study, we genetically added recombinant human lysozyme (rhLZ) to sow milk by somatic cell nuclear transfer and investigated whether the presence of recombinant human lysozyme can influence intestinal microbiota and morphology in sucking pigs. We generated transgenic cloned pigs and the first-generation hybrids (F1) produced high levels of rhLZ in milk. The average concentration of rhLZ was 116.34 ± 24.46 mg/L in the milk of F1 sows, which was 1500-fold higher than that of the native pig lysozyme. In vitro, it was demonstrated that rhLZ in milk of transgenic pigs had enzyme levels at 92,272 ± 26,413 U/mL. In a feeding experiment, a total of 40 newborn piglets were nursed by four transgenic sows and four sibling non-transgenic sows (F1), with five piglets per gilt. The piglets were allowed to nurse for 21 days and the sow milk was the only source of nutrition for the piglets. All piglets were slaughtered on postnatal day 22. Six types of bacteria were cultured and analyzed to detect the impact of rhLZ on gut microbiota. OBJECTIVE: By testing the mediating effect of coping strategies on the relationship between social support (SS) and posttraumatic growth (PTG), the aim of this research was to develop a new approach for the study of post-disaster psychological intervention. METHODS: A mediating effect model analysis was conducted on 2080 adult survivors selected from 19 of the counties hardest-hit by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. The Social Support Rating Scale and the Coping Scale were used to predict the PTG. RESULTS: A bivariate correlation analysis showed that there was a correlation between posttraumatic growth, social support and coping strategies. The mediation analysis revealed that coping strategies played a mediating role between social support and posttraumatic growth in survivors after the earthquake. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated that mental health programs for survivors need to focus on the establishment of a good social support network, which was found to be conductive to maintaining and increasing mental health levels. At the same time, adequate social support is able to assist survivors in adopting mature coping strategies, such as problem solving and asking for help. Hence, social support was found to play a vital role in balancing and protecting mental health.
